We searched Hotels.com for a spa hotel in York as a treat for our 48th wedding anniversary. We booked the Malmaison, York. Checking their website which still says "Train like a warrior in our fully-equipped gym or book in some royal pampering at our spa, where an array of treatments await you from massages to facials and body wraps." So Ra restaurant was very good it was a shame though that it was closed bank holiday Monday. Booked a spa hotel as enjoy a treatment however this was shut until further notice. Lights in room could be brighter in bathroom area for shaving and applying make up. Staff very helpful.would come back

We love this hotel and staying here made our trip to York perfect. We have stayed in many hotels and although modern, fulfils expectations. It is conveniently located, just a short walk into the town. Cannot comment on the food as we did not eat here but the bar is great and the rooms are lovely. The gym is well-equipped and has air con. Thank you for a lovely stay. I must add, I the rooms have the most comfortable beds with remarkable bedding. The pillows and duvet are amazing. I’d love to know where they bought them from.

The real problem is that the spa is not working and that’s the reason why I stayed in the hotel. I should have been notified same way I got a message about how busy is the restaurant and that needs to be booked beforehand.

Great location, only a 5 minute walk from the station and right in the centre of town. Usual Malmaison style and very modern, rooftop bar looked great but you’ll need to book a table beforehand as it’s very popular - not much chance of a walk in!

The majority was great except breakfast is very confusing. Nobody explained to us what was included and what wasn't and the menu has prices of £25 on for all the hot food so after a lot of confusion and having to go to multiple staff members, we eventually got there. And the hotel advertises parking but we weren't able to use it because it was full so we had to pay for the ridiculously expensive NCP.

Great hotel, very comfortable room and the location is perfect. Breakfast is wonderful and I used one of the business pods for a meeting…so easy to set up and and very comfortable. Had to use the NCP parking which is only a 3 minute walk from the hotel but the hotel offered a reduction (30%) so remember to ask at reception upon check out

Was a nice hotel, I did order a few things to the room for our arrival for our 1 year wedding anniversary, they managed to display the chocolate plate but no drinks. Room service you could only order food from the QR code and not drinks. Lots of dust on the ledge behind the bed, and someone walked into our room 45 minutes into our stay. Apart from that it was a nice stay.

Check in was fine but the bed had brown marks on the the cover blanket in about 5 places, a mark on the top sheet and what looked like popcorn under the bed. Asked for the bed cover to be removed which took over 2 hours to be done so decided.to leave the room. On checking out no one enquired as to how then stay was as gentleman on front desk was more interested in lap top. Won't stay again as poor cleanliness and customer service low. No offer to adress the issue or make up for poor quality.

We loved York! It was surprisingly beautiful and interesting. But the hotel was not. The tiny room was dirty with a stained floor and when we pulled back the comforter it pulled the sheet revealing blood stains. Very gross and disappointing. We would go back to York again but not stay here.

This place is way overpriced. The cleaners clearly don't really clean. We had to hunt for the tv remote control, and found it under the bed. The shower head clearly needs descaling as jets come out in all directions. There are no windows which open so it gets very stuffy and dry with just the aircon to provide relief from the heat. The toilet isn't cleaned properly at all, there was urine splashes on the wall at either side of the toilet. I made reception aware and showed them pictures, and they just said sorry. Not really good enough. I'd upload the photos but it isn't allowing me to.

Great location, lovely room and hotel however the toilet was grim in the room. It had textured wall paper and you could see all splash marks on the wall paper when the light was on. It was quite gross really. All around the toilet and on the walls. It felt like a germ fest in there. Wipeable surface would be much better.

Very nice - only issue was it said the rooms were sound proofed and you could hear traffic outside as well as doors slamming every time a guest entered or exited their room on the passage hallways - otherwise the staff were excellent easy check in and good breakfast - one small gripe is that the website said parking was available at the hotel it’s just a small walk to another parking garage on the next street that is external to the hotel so if it’s raining or you have had a long journey you need to go navigate and find parking otherwise its a really nice hotel

Had suite 201. Was very good however the motion sensor lights around the bed are so annoying. Get up for the loo and they turn on lighting thr room up like Blackpool... No obvious off switch. Check in wa OK but no information given about checkout or breakfast.

We love this hotel and stay every time we visit York if possible. We have tried several others and none quite meet the standard of the Malmaison. We always book the Club Deluxe rooms as they are very spacious, with separate sitting area and huge bathrooms with separate bath and shower, and little touches like Ferrero Rocher, water and Nespresso in the rooms. The location is great and the staff are always friendly, helpful and professional. Also to note, the cocktails are outstanding!

Lovely helpful staff, but we didn't get checked in until 16:00hrs, when we tried checking in at 3pm the room was not ready. We were give a free drink while waiting in the bar (we were meant to freshen up and be out to meet friends, which we didn't manage to freshen up. We had to leave bag's until we returned at 100pm.

Hotel was clean and rooms were lovely and well equipped apart from the lighting was really poor making it difficult to do makeup etc. staff on reception were very friendly but breakfast was terrible. One of our group is coeliac so needed gluten free- this was catered for in as much as they had GF bread but he couldn’t have any black pudding or sausage (which does beg the question why do they ask you to contact them in advance with any dietary requirements which I had done as they didn’t do anything special for him). We waited over an hour to get our breakfast and when it finally arrived the GF one was ok but the other 3 were stone cold so I complained to the restaurant manager who agreed it wasn’t good but wasn’t overly helpful. He asked what I would like him to do and I said I would like a refund of the 3 breakfasts as we couldn’t wait for them to start again. He agreed to do this and I checked with reception on check out and they confirmed he had adjusted the payment. However, it is now nearly 2 weeks since our stay and I still have received no refund. I have telephoned and spoke to reception again who agreed to look into this and call back the next day and still nothing 4 days later. I think the hotel is ok so long as you don’t ask for anything and nothing goes wrong, otherwise hopeless.

Arrived for 2 day stay 2 ladies mum & daughter. Lovely receptionist kept bags whilst we went straight out. Came back to a family room with a sweat/BO smell in one of rooms. The bathroom was nice but unfortunately the shower needed a deep clean. We used the bath instead but I did show the duty manager the photos of its condition before we left. We had a very unfortunate experience-we were awoken by loud hammering on the door at 7:30am despite a do not disturb sign with a man saying he was maintenance & we had perhaps left the bath on- he barged past to check & quickly realised we had been asleep & not left the bath on! There was a leak downstairs apparently. I later made a complaint that no man should have come knocking & demanding to be in a room where there was only women. I can only finish on a positive & say we had two wonderful meals in Sora & chez mal whilst we were there, the staff & the food were amazing.

Staff were rude at reception, made any request difficult and as for trying to move around the hotel - it was a nightmare to access the rooms to the rooftop. Would also recommend a torch to get around the room. Very dark finish.

Only stayed the one night but the staff were very friendly and efficient, they helped us check baggage before and after check out so they were could explore the city without carting around unnecessary luggage. The shower was great and the room temperature controlled was fantastic given it was quite a warm sticky day outside and I've seen other hotels in the area resort to loud portable Aircon units in an effort to keep the rooms at an acceptable level but here the integrated air was efficient and quiet. Overall a very enjoyable, if quick stay, that I would be happy to do again.

Loved my stay with you with the exception of Reception. Not the receptionists but the limitations around the desk itself and only having two/three receptionists during busy periods. The area was very cluttered too which doesn't give you a very good first impression. I think I probably spend up to 30 minutes checking in/out which for me was just time wasted. I heard others in the queue moaning too so my views were not alone. I actually took pictures of the queue because I was so surprised. And just one other point, your parking is so limited so had to fork out 25 quid for the NCP overnight parking, can't you do a deal with them and offer some discount to your guests?

The room was adequate, would have liked water in the fridge at least. The reception staff were wonderful, however the bar staff particularly the female manager was rude and a lit arrogant. Customer service skills need a rethink. Great location not too noisy traffic wise however early morning delivery 6am were a bit too noisy.

Great location, only a 5 minute walk from the station and right in the centre of town. Usual Malmaison style and very modern, rooftop bar looked great but you’ll need to book a table beforehand as it’s very popular - not much chance of a walk in!

This modern hotel is a short, easy 5-minute walk from the train station. The staff are friendly, efficient, and eager to assist with anything you need. The free Wifi was good. We had a strong signal throughout the hotel. Our room was modern, clean, quiet and well laid out. There was a sleeping area with space around the two twin beds. A half-wall with a glass partition separated the sleeping area from a work area that had a 6 ft. desk and plenty of electrical outlets. The big bathroom had a modern sink and a great shower. The walk-in shower had a rainfall shower head and a hand-held shower head. You could turn them both on at the same time for a fantastic shower. There are motion-sensitive night lights near the floor and in the bathroom that guide your way from the bed to the bathroom and back. These are so cleaver. One can get up in the middle of the night without turning on desk lamps, or overhead lights or walking into furniture. We didn’t eat breakfast at the hotel, However, we did have delicious dinners at the hotel restaurant, Chez Mal. The chicken and the sticky toffee pudding were wonderful. The wait staff were attentive to our dietary needs. When I visit York again, I’ll stay at Malmasion.

Hotel was clean and rooms were lovely and well equipped apart from the lighting was really poor making it difficult to do makeup etc. staff on reception were very friendly but breakfast was terrible. One of our group is coeliac so needed gluten free- this was catered for in as much as they had GF bread but he couldn’t have any black pudding or sausage (which does beg the question why do they ask you to contact them in advance with any dietary requirements which I had done as they didn’t do anything special for him). We waited over an hour to get our breakfast and when it finally arrived the GF one was ok but the other 3 were stone cold so I complained to the restaurant manager who agreed it wasn’t good but wasn’t overly helpful. He asked what I would like him to do and I said I would like a refund of the 3 breakfasts as we couldn’t wait for them to start again. He agreed to do this and I checked with reception on check out and they confirmed he had adjusted the payment. However, it is now nearly 2 weeks since our stay and I still have received no refund. I have telephoned and spoke to reception again who agreed to look into this and call back the next day and still nothing 4 days later. I think the hotel is ok so long as you don’t ask for anything and nothing goes wrong, otherwise hopeless.

We had a one night stay. The room was spacious well designed with a large bed and sumptuous bedding. Did not want to leave the bed in the morning. We had roof top drinks prior to heading out in the evening. The roof top bar was relaxing with some great views. Breakfast in the morning was delicious with a good choice and high quality ingredients.

A nice hotel in a great position. The room facilities were ok, not as good as I would have hoped for in a hotel of this quality. Poor selection of toiletries and the lighting in the room was odd. Breakfast and bar service was very good though I’m not sure why the mocktails are not included in the happy hour pricing!

Excellent place to stay with just a short walk over the bridge into town. We had a comfortable, clean room check in was quick and easy. We didn't use the bar but did book breakfast which was excellent. It is a bit pricey but the service was brilliant and there was a wide selection of food.

This was a comfortable hotel and in a good location for the train station and iconic sites like the Shambles and the Minster. It is located on a busy junction so ear plugs advised for traffic noise if that bothers you. Was shocked to see they charged £25 for breakfast. They did try to offer the perk of a £12 cocktail voucher but found it easier to nip to Costa for their breakfast nap and coffee deal for under £7. I think the hotel needs to rethink their pricing structure a bit.

Staff in reception were friendly and helpful. I was disappointed that on hotels.com there wasn't much said about the opening days of the roof terrace yet had mentioned the terrace so assumed we couldn use it. On arrival we found out it was shut Monday & Tuesday we also found out that you need to book well in all to get a table on the terrace & without a booking you cannot go up to the terrace. The room was great as well as the breakfast.the hotel itself walking distance to station & city centre

Room was modern, well appointed and beautiful. Fabulous powerful shower with a very easy set of buttons - large shower room. Seats to sit on (bench and chaise long) were very shallow and not comfortable- unlike the comfortable bed. Storage space was actually quite small. Very poor lighting for the fab basin area but large counter to accommodate all medicines and makeup. One sad thing - the fab-looking rooftop bar was closed on the two evenings we wanted it and that wasn’t made clear before we booked.
