It was cheap. Very basic. Outside needed some work. Not the hotels fault but hotels.com charged a 30.00 fee which was not stated until i was checking in. The hotel was 75 bucks plus tax...i paid about 112.00

Quite little motel. Check in was at the small gas station next door. We had a single room. Our cars navigation system did not take us to the right place, but google did. We recommend bringing water to the site as there is a lot of sulfide in the water. It smells of rotten eggs and has a tint to it. It's not unusual for rural areas. If you are sensitive to smell, I would not recommend staying here. I would also bring a bag for recycling as there isn't one. Otherwise, it was great! Very quiet area. I likes that there were flashing yellow lights for the turn. The road to it is 65 miles an hour so the notice is great.

We had an amazing stay! This is an older motel with lots of charm - exactly what we're looking for when we come to the beautiful U.P. of Michigan! There's a few things that need minimal work but the owner is on it!! The grills provided were a huge plus for us! A fire pit, (wasn't advertised but is available) cleaning lady is SUPER friendly & helpful, as is the staff at the gas station -convenience store literally steps away! The bathrooms are very small but again, not a problem for us. The beach is beyond beautiful and endless! ⚠️ The aroma of the pasties wafting in the air each morning brings on a ferocious appetite! Fred, the owner is just out of this world WONDERFUL to work with!!! The entire area is just beautiful and has the friendliest people ever!!! We booked 2 rooms for 3 days, 1 for one day and extended one of the two bedrooms (which is actually two bedrooms with doors that close) for an extra night to continue exploring. AuTrain has MUCH less traffice than Munising or Marquette (which are both beautiful & worth venturing to) that we had a much quieter, more relaxed visit with everything and more to offer than the more populated areas. I'd suggest lock boxes with codes for keys for those arriving late. Wasn't a problem for us but an elderly woman was a little confused. Also, book direct - not through expedia, etc. Better rates & GREAT service! Thank you, Fred & ALL the staff at AuTrain Motel for an absolutely wonderful stay!!! We'll definitely be back!!!

Very limited parking. It’s an old tired venue that is cramped but functional if you’re just looking for a place to crash. For those not familiar with Yooper” culture know that pasties have aphrodisiac qualities that may incline other guests to work off the effects until the wee hours of the morning on the other side of paper thin walls.

The price was good for a room a block from Lake Superior. This is a place to sleep as there are no amenities but our reason for coming was to spend time by the lake. The one detractor was that the water was a little discolored with a bit of an odor when showering, but this is not a deal breaker. To end on a positive note, there is hand packed ice cream in the gas station/grocery where you check in.

The appearance of the property is very poor. Looks like little or no upkeep outside. The water was not drinkable. The interior had an odor. It did look clean inside. I believe I could have found a much nicer place to stay in Munising for a few mor dollars. I'm surprised Expedia has this motel on their site. Definitely do not recommend. I booked for another couple also--was very embarrassed when I drove up.

We liked that it was a block off Lake Superior. Even though it was old,, we didn’t mind that. But the carpet was dirty and torn, only HOT water n the shower, the bed was hard but the bedding was clean!!!!

Room was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Carpets needed cleaning badly though and a TV that was a normal size would have been nice . Water was nasty and smelled like sulfur and was orange until ran for a few minutes . Also a mirror in the bathroom that was of decent size would be nice . All in all fine for the few nights we were there as we weren't in our room much but out doing things in the area.

We didn’t get in till 10 and they had to leave the key in the laundry room. It was very creepy, old furniture, rust stains in the sink, white towels that were so disgusting we didn’t even shower. Bed was okay. Broken levalors where we had to tape napkins up to have privacy. Curtains old and dingy. Carpet torn and ragged. I would have cancelled and got my money back but it was so late and we were so tired.!!

The positives: we had a late check-in and the receptionist was very friendly and left the key in the room for us. It was easy to find and conveniently located. The not-so-positives: We had low expectations, just needed somewhere to sleep and shower on a road trip. This still failed to meet our expectations... There was 'gunk' on the walls, bedskirt, and sink. There was trash in the can. The bedspread was extremely stained. There was hair in the shower. The soap on the sink looked used (it was open). The blinds on the window were broken leaving large gaps. The bed was rock hard and the pillows were very flat and lumpy. There were lots of holes (patched and not) in the walls. There was a snowmobile map thumbtacked to the wall falling down.... just general disrepair. I would not recommend staying here, you're better off sleeping in your car...

This motel was perfect for what we needed! We hiked, kayaked and explored during the day, so we needed a clean, comfortable place to sleep/shower and get ready for our adventures the next day. The lake/beach is a quick 5 minute walk away. We enjoyed the laid back “chill” attitude of this town….very different from the hustle and bustle of Munising. The gas station (which is where you check in) is right next store and has fresh, homemade pasties every day. The room had a TV, towels, A/C, a heater, a box fan, microwave, larger mini fridge, coffee maker and a sink in the “mini kitchen” area. No problems with the WiFi either, worked great! Yes, this is an “older” Motel, but it’s not gross. It’s clean and functional. The only thing I wish they provided was Kleenex…not a big deal, we just bought some at the gas station next door. We loved that our unit had two separate bedrooms. It gave our teenagers their needed “space”. The communication from the owners was great and the check in/out process was super easy. I loved how friendly and helpful the staff was. They accommodated our request for extra late entry with no problem. Worked out perfectly for our purpose. However looking for a place to stay for a few days, might want to find something with more comfortable beds. Otherwise cute little space.

The motel is in a great location, just a few minutes walk from Au Train beach. The adjoining store is convenient for picking up things you might need for your stay or pre-made food. Everything was clean and in working condition. The room included a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. Our two bed unit was actually two bedrooms plus the bathroom and a little sitting area. The room is very dated and the mattress was kind of hard, even for someone who prefers a hard mattress. The water was slightly discolored…probably fine but we picked up a jug of water just in case. The gentleman at check-in was very nice but had some trouble finding our reservation, so it took a while to check in. There is no after hours check in, so you need to be able to check in during store hours.

Pros: Good location right off the highway - about 10 miles to Munising. Good communication before visit and check in was easy. Cons: The carpeting was thin and torn, the water smelled, one of the beds was very hard and squeaked, the tv was tiny and the bathroom was so small that I had to squeeze by the shower to get to the toilet.

We were fairly happy. The only down side was the walls are so thin you can hear the neighbors conversation and the TVs we laughably tiny. Beyond that it was clean and everything worked. The staff in the store was outstanding...every one of them. We stayed 2 night and would not hesitate to stay again. The minor inconveniences are more than a fair trade off for the price.

The room had a TV, towels, A/C, a heater, a box fan, microwave, larger mini fridge, coffee maker and a sink in the “mini kitchen” area. No problems with the WiFi either, worked great! Yes, this is an “older” Motel, but it’s not gross. It’s clean and functional. The only thing I wish they provided was Kleenex…not a big deal, we just bought some at the gas station next door. We loved that our unit had two separate bedrooms. It gave our teenagers their needed “space”. The communication from the owners was great and the check in/out process was super easy. The next time we visit the area, we WILL stay here again.

The motel is in a great location, just a few minutes walk from Au Train beach. The adjoining store is convenient for picking up things you might need for your stay or pre-made food. Everything was clean and in working condition. The room included a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. Our two bed unit was actually two bedrooms plus the bathroom and a little sitting area. The room is very dated and the mattress was kind of hard, even for someone who prefers a hard mattress. The water was slightly discolored…probably fine but we picked up a jug of water just in case. The gentleman at check-in was very nice but had some trouble finding our reservation, so it took a while to check in. There is no after hours check in, so you need to be able to check in during store hours.

Despite the hard bed and aged faciity, the staff was excellent and accommodating to our every request from helping with the wifi to providing ice, and chilling our wine. I especially loved their friendliness and genuine concern.

The positives: we had a late check-in and the receptionist was very friendly and left the key in the room for us. It was easy to find and conveniently located. The not-so-positives: We had low expectations, just needed somewhere to sleep and shower on a road trip. This still failed to meet our expectations... There was 'gunk' on the walls, bedskirt, and sink. There was trash in the can. The bedspread was extremely stained. There was hair in the shower. The soap on the sink looked used (it was open). The blinds on the window were broken leaving large gaps. The bed was rock hard and the pillows were very flat and lumpy. There were lots of holes (patched and not) in the walls. There was a snowmobile map thumbtacked to the wall falling down.... just general disrepair. I would not recommend staying here, you're better off sleeping in your car...

First thing we noticed was the toilet was leaking onto the floor. I told the gentleman that i got the key from that there was water on the floor around the toilet. He said it was probably mop water because the housekeeper just finished cleaning the room. That was not the case. There was definitely a leak - but they close at 8pm and we didn't arrive back to the room until after 9pm There is a desk, but no chair to sit. The bed was bumpy, bouncy and uncomfortable. The coffe pot still had coffee in it. Very disappointed.

Pros: Good location right off the highway - about 10 miles to Munising. Good communication before visit and check in was easy. Cons: The carpeting was thin and torn, the water smelled, one of the beds was very hard and squeaked, the tv was tiny and the bathroom was so small that I had to squeeze by the shower to get to the toilet.

Very clean. Cute place to stay. The people who run this place are super friendly and always offer their services if needed. They run the Market/Gas Station right next door which is super convenient. They also make delicious baked good, daily! You can also walk to other places that are around and very easy walk to Lake Superior. This is not an extravagant place. If you like uppity stays, this is not for you! Please don’t go thinking it’s a Hyatt! It’s very warm and cozy and great for sleep. Very friendly!!

This motel was perfect for what we needed! We hiked, kayaked and explored during the day, so we needed a clean, comfortable place to sleep/shower and get ready for our adventures the next day. The bad odor smacks you in the face as soon as you walk in. The carpet is gross-I kept my shoes on the whole time. Shower is tiny, rusty, and the water smells terrible. Coffee pot was growing actual mold inside. And the room felt damp. The only positive is the walking distance to au train beach.

Be realistic. It's a small town motel. We needed a place to sleep while we explored the area, and this motel delivered just that. AC worked, shower worked, fridge worked, TV with cable worked. On the downside, walls are thin, we could hear the neighbor snoring. Crank up the AC to drown them out. Yes, the TV is small. We were lucky to be there in the summer and enjoyed the outside!
