We were visiting the area and particularly Alnwick Castle for our 43rd wedding anniversary. The Tempest has a very eclectic and boutiquey decor and vibe which is a nice change from the usual chain hotels. The property has a rural setting yet not too far from civilisation. Ample and easy parking available. The external appearance is a nice mix of traditional styling and design around original stone buildings with a modern contemporary twist to the newer elements. As we booked late we only had the choice of a room overlooking the car park but some of the larger rooms have full height gable windows with panoramic views over the countryside. From check-in to check-out, all the staff we encountered at reception, in the dining areas and housekeeping were friendly, polite and courteous. The quality of accommodation and ambience was superb in consideration of the room rate. Will definitely return when we are back in the North East.

Lovely room in a lovely hotel. We were there for a wedding at Doxford Hall which was only 5 minutes by car. Quiet location, lovely to hear the birds in the morning. Nice touch having the teepee on site for the football.

We stayed for 2 nights - first in a tempess room and second night in the lookout. Pros - -the main hotel was immaculate -the tempess hotel room blew us away -the hotel grounds are incredible -staff were extremely hard working and friendly Cons -asked for a vegetarian breakfast to be told they had no black pudding or vegetarian sausages? We were also advised by waitress that vegetarian food was not cooked seperately to meat -the lookout was dirty, the doors covered in cobwebs, the door to hot tub would not lock, the sofa bed was unstable, it was a let down compared to the main hotel -unless you book in advance it impossible to get a suitable dinner reservation (glad I took snacks for my children to eat) -one vegetarian starter or main option for dinner (if you manage to get a reservation -unable to get any children’s cocktails in the teppee so you have to walk back to main hotel and que again -service at the bar was very slow, the bar man was lovely and worked as fast as he could - not enough staff causing long wait times at the bar (15 mins for 1 drink) The hotel grounds are breathtaking and the main hotel rooms are beautiful. We did not enjoy the lookout at all and would not recommend it. Due to the lack of dining availability/ options and slow bar - we would not return.

This is a lovely hotel. We had a room in the Pole Barn which had its own outside seating. The seating here could do with being a wee bit more comfortable, but it was a nice touch. The room was small but very well-designed - controllable temp and lighting, a fridge and a great bathroom. The restaurant was lovely - big, airy and stylish. The food was excellent adn the main bonus was the staff -friendly and helpful without fail.

Stayed for 2 nights Fri/Sat, booked dinner for the Fri as we didn’t want to drive out anywhere. The food was amazing! So nice we booked dinner again for the Sat night. Took off Saturday morning to do the local parkrun but managed to get back before breakfast finished, although we cut it fine the staff were amazing and looked after us and the breakfast was delicious. The rooms were amazingly well decorated and the hotel looks fab, whoever does the interior design has a great eye! The only thing I’d wish they had was a spa, would have loved a sauna or steam room to chill in. Brilliant stay though

Our stay was perfect from the off ! We stayed in the look out which came with a hot tub. Dinner was amazing went for chicken and beef dish followed by a cocktail by the fire. After dinner headed to hot tub and it stated to snow 🙌.Staff were excellent and never felt rushed.

Lovely hotel, let down by the restaurant's food. We had a lovely time at The Tempus hotel. Our room was a Junior Suite and was large, well decorated, clean and confortable. The reception staff were very welcoming and showed us to our room. The bar and terrace were nice - we were lucky with the weather so were able to sit outside. The surroundings are lovely. The resturant however lets the hotel down. We had dinner and breakfast. At dinner, the waitress who took our order did not know the menu and incorrectly answered our question about what was included with the Pan Fried Fillet of Pork - she told us it came with Potatoes but it didn't. My wife had the Fish and Chips. Both of our meals were overcooked. I ate mine because I was hungry. She sent hers back. To their credit, they gave us desserts on the house, which were good. Breakfast the following morning was OK, but nothing special.

We’ve stayed at Charlton Hall a few times now and it never disappoints! The grounds and hotel are immaculate, truly such a peaceful place that is the perfect base for exploring Northumberland.

Lovely quiet location with lovely building. Room very good although entrance from outside and no venue umbrellas available. Also doors to room very difficult to lock and open. Room cleaning was not great with spoons left uncleaned in sink on 1st day. Food in restaurant was good although breakfast waitress was very unhelpful and abrupt.

Stayed two nights. Initial impression not good, our room was very small for a couple. You could only exit the bed from one side. Probably my fault for not studying the detail carefully enough when booking. Asked for help and staff were very good and moved us for a small fee to a lovely room. Very helpful friendly staff, rooms, bedding, towels crisp and clean. Restaurant busy both nights but no long delays and good choice and excellent quality. The decor is 'quirky', may not be to everyones taste but brought a smile to our faces. Wish the main house decoration had less plastic plants and a few real plants!

The accommodation was fantastic and extremely comfortable, the service and friendliness of the the staff was excellent, the restaurant catered for our dietary requirements and the food was superb. would go back again

We had the best day and night at charlton hotel and the tempus . The rooms were beautiful, clean, relaxing with everything you would possibly need very impressed with all of the staff nothing was too much trouble for any of them all super friendle xx As for food its second to none just lovely .would recommend to everyone. Thankyou to you all .

On considerable disappointment with the first room we were put into (small bed, little furniture, tiny window overlooking car park, accessible wet-room) we paid to upgrade to a lovely room upstairs. The extra cost was unwelcome but worth it. The area is lovely.

We stayed for 1 night en-route from Yorkshire to the Scottish Highlands, and we were absolutely gutted..... because we wished we had booked for longer! We had room 101 and it was simply beautiful. I actually cant fault a thing. We will definitely be back.... but for longer next time :)
We stayed for 1 night en-route from Yorkshire to the Scottish Highlands, and we were absolutely gutted..... because we wished we had booked for longer! We had room 101 and it was simply beautiful. I actually cant fault a thing. We will definitely be back.... but for longer next time :)

The hotel was relatively easy to find and had some decent amenities. There was no thermostat in the room so cooling was done by window (which was very loud considering gravel parking lot). The bed was not very comfortable and the shower got lukewarm at best. Worst part was that the fire alarm was triggered at 1:30 in the morning and we had to evacuate for about 15 minutes (standing in the cold rain). The front desk worker did not seem to think this was an urgent issue at all, taking his time to come investigate. He simply turned off the alarm and said "doesn't look like anything is on fire, sometimes the alarm just acts wonky" and left. Very disruptive and didn't feel very safe for the rest of the evening.

We stayed for 2 nights - first in a tempess room and second night in the lookout. Pros - -the main hotel was immaculate -the tempess hotel room blew us away -the hotel grounds are incredible -staff were extremely hard working and friendly Cons -asked for a vegetarian breakfast to be told they had no black pudding or vegetarian sausages? We were also advised by waitress that vegetarian food was not cooked seperately to meat -the lookout was dirty, the doors covered in cobwebs, the door to hot tub would not lock, the sofa bed was unstable, it was a let down compared to the main hotel -unless you book in advance it impossible to get a suitable dinner reservation (glad I took snacks for my children to eat) -one vegetarian starter or main option for dinner (if you manage to get a reservation -unable to get any children’s cocktails in the teppee so you have to walk back to main hotel and que again -service at the bar was very slow, the bar man was lovely and worked as fast as he could - not enough staff causing long wait times at the bar (15 mins for 1 drink) The hotel grounds are breathtaking and the main hotel rooms are beautiful. We did not enjoy the lookout at all and would not recommend it. Due to the lack of dining availability/ options and slow bar - we would not return.

Lovely quiet location with lovely building. Room very good although entrance from outside and no venue umbrellas available. Also doors to room very difficult to lock and open. Room cleaning was not great with spoons left uncleaned in sink on 1st day. Food in restaurant was good although breakfast waitress was very unhelpful and abrupt.

Our stay was excellent , our original room was having maintenance work done so we were upgraded to a Boutique suite which was beautiful , staff were excellent and friendly , evening meal in the restaurant was excellent with a nice atmosphere , and the breakfast was spot on and well organised with no queue for anything and was very calm , all in all a very nice stay.

This was our second visit to Charlton Hall and this time stayed in The Tempus. It didn’t disappoint. Everything is well thought out, the rooms are comfortable and spacious. The entire hotel is beautifully decorated. We ate in the Orangery a couple of times, both of which were delicious. The staff are attentive and courteous. What’s not to love! We will return!

Unfortunately, the check-in at this hotel was one of the worst I’ve experienced. Firstly, they do not accept American Express, which was inconvenient and not clearly stated in advance. The receptionist then struggled to process my alternative card, insisting it didn’t work. I politely asked her to try again and of course, the card worked perfectly the third time, confirming it was a user error on her part. What made the situation worse was her lack of apology or acknowledgment of the mistake. Instead, her attitude was dismissive and unnecessarily rude. She did not appear to have the experience or professionalism required for a front-facing role, which set a poor tone for the stay.

On considerable disappointment with the first room we were put into (small bed, little furniture, tiny window overlooking car park, accessible wet-room) we paid to upgrade to a lovely room upstairs. The extra cost was unwelcome but worth it. The area is lovely.

We were visiting the area and particularly Alnwick Castle for our 43rd wedding anniversary. The Tempest has a very eclectic and boutiquey decor and vibe which is a nice change from the usual chain hotels. The property has a rural setting yet not too far from civilisation. Ample and easy parking available. The external appearance is a nice mix of traditional styling and design around original stone buildings with a modern contemporary twist to the newer elements. As we booked late we only had the choice of a room overlooking the car park but some of the larger rooms have full height gable windows with panoramic views over the countryside. From check-in to check-out, all the staff we encountered at reception, in the dining areas and housekeeping were friendly, polite and courteous. The quality of accommodation and ambience was superb in consideration of the room rate. Will definitely return when we are back in the North East.

Lovely room in a lovely hotel. We were there for a wedding at Doxford Hall which was only 5 minutes by car. Quiet location, lovely to hear the birds in the morning. Nice touch having the teepee on site for the football.

Lovely hotel, let down by the restaurant's food. We had a lovely time at The Tempus hotel. Our room was a Junior Suite and was large, well decorated, clean and confortable. The reception staff were very welcoming and showed us to our room. The bar and terrace were nice - we were lucky with the weather so were able to sit outside. The surroundings are lovely. The resturant however lets the hotel down. We had dinner and breakfast. At dinner, the waitress who took our order did not know the menu and incorrectly answered our question about what was included with the Pan Fried Fillet of Pork - she told us it came with Potatoes but it didn't. My wife had the Fish and Chips. Both of our meals were overcooked. I ate mine because I was hungry. She sent hers back. To their credit, they gave us desserts on the house, which were good. Breakfast the following morning was OK, but nothing special.

This is a lovely hotel. We had a room in the Pole Barn which had its own outside seating. The seating here could do with being a wee bit more comfortable, but it was a nice touch. The room was small but very well-designed - controllable temp and lighting, a fridge and a great bathroom. The restaurant was lovely - big, airy and stylish. The food was excellent adn the main bonus was the staff -friendly and helpful without fail.

Stayed for 2 nights Fri/Sat, booked dinner for the Fri as we didn’t want to drive out anywhere. The food was amazing! So nice we booked dinner again for the Sat night. Took off Saturday morning to do the local parkrun but managed to get back before breakfast finished, although we cut it fine the staff were amazing and looked after us and the breakfast was delicious. The rooms were amazingly well decorated and the hotel looks fab, whoever does the interior design has a great eye! The only thing I’d wish they had was a spa, would have loved a sauna or steam room to chill in. Brilliant stay though

It was a beautiful hotel in a stunning country setting. All the staff were friendly, polite and helpful. One criticism I am reluctant to mention, I personally don’t like to see dogs in the dining area . It was only one dog which I am fairly sure was not a guide dog and to see a waitress petting the dog and then serving food is a big no no for me. The restaurant is very modern and beautifully decorated.

My wife had the Fish and Chips. Both of our meals were overcooked. I ate mine because I was hungry. She sent hers back. To their credit, they gave us desserts on the house, which were good. Breakfast the following morning was OK, but nothing special.

Truly deserving of its many accolades, The Tempus is a must-stay destination. Everything was a joy, from the setting, accommodation, decor, food and the friendly welcoming staff. If you're looking for a hotel with a difference, pay the Tempus a visit, you won't be disappointed.

The hotel was absolutely beautiful and the staff were really attentive. We ate at the restaurant twice and spent our final night at the tipi. The food and cocktails in both was absolutely exceptional each night. I done a lot of research before booking this location as it was for our anniversary and my husbands birthday and this looked like a really lovely peaceful area. We were really impressed when we first arrived and seen the place, we had a group of sheep gathered outside our cabin and beautiful birds and ducklings in the pond. Unfortunately, it came to light when we went to bed that the wedding venue is located right behind the cabins. I understand it is wedding season and this would be a popular wedding venue however, we were kept up after a 6 hour drive, unable to open the windows because of the noise. Friday night was lovely and peaceful and we slept great to the sound of the water feature in the lake. We were kept awake late again by loud music and guests on the Saturday night, with another long 6 hours drive home the following morning. Had I have known this was the layout, I'd have been less likely to choose this location and I do think it should be made more known when booking. Such a shame because apart from the everything else was really perfect. I'd hoped to raise this at checkout but I was promptly handed our bill and not asked about our stay

We stayed in Daisy one of the lakeside cabins. Loved it. The room had a great layout with the dressing table behind the bed and the bed looking out to the lake. Lovely bathroom too with rain shower. We loved the outdoor balcony area, so peaceful and relaxing to sit outside. The spa outdoor bath was also great to relax in, tho it did seem to have a slow leak around the plug area. Everything was perfect for a romantic, relaxing stay… until - evening came. We stayed a Friday and Saturday night and there were weddings in the venue on the estate both nights. The noise inside the cabin was very loud! I struggled to get to sleep both nights as it went on towards midnight. The welcome pack in the cabin encourages you to take in the tranquility and not to make excessive noise - but the noise from the weddings spoiled our time there. We did pass on our concerns when checking out but the member of staff wasn’t that concerned. It was more a shrug of the shoulders and “oh well” It spoiled what would otherwise have been a perfect stay.
