South Side Inn - Burlington

The good: The shower was fantastic and the beds and pillows were comfortable. They offered limited breakfast selections on the go. The bad: We could hear traffic on the highway all night long. The parking lot is not set up well. Stairs only, no elevator so not very accessible for everyone.

Did not like the wide open stairways at end of halls. Did not feel very safe

I was disappointed that they didn’t have an ice machine. But the man at the desk was friendly & accommodating. The place was older but very clean & updated. The flowers were beautiful in & out. The beds were comfortable. I’d stay there again if I’m ever in the area.

No amenities, very small tv and the channel guide didn't say what channels were major networks on. Frustrating trying to find ABC, CBS ,&NBC

We were puzzled by the lack of an ice machine. Our room had an ice bucket but a walk around and through the building the morning after our overnight stay left us scratching our heads. No one was at the front desk to answer our question about this until 9 am. Then we learned that if we wanted a cup of ice they'd retrieve it from wherever the staff resided in back of the building.

We had very limited interaction with management. But the concierge (if that’s a reasonable title) was lovely when we did speak to him. For all intents and purposes this is a motel. (Calling it an inn” alludes to more luxury or coziness than you will find here). We went during parents’ weekend at UVM so it was way too expensive for what it provides. But at least we had a place to sleep. But thats all there is. A place to sleep. There are no real facilities or amenities. The parking lot hardscaping and landscaping are not well kept, with difficult driving clearances. The bed was too stiff, but tolerable for a night. The hot water can’t keep up with demand in the morning. So I had a very cold shower at around 9:30 am. The toilets flush well…perhaps too well! You should probably keep children away from them, for fear they might get sucked down the drain. But seriously, they’re just too loud to flush when other people are sleeping. The WiFi was unusable but my cell service was all I needed. The rooms are kind of dark and old. Some recent renovations included new pre-fab shower walls and receptors. But the choice of a peachy-tan color was not helpful. A few simple suggestions to make this place much nicer: 1) get new, white bed spreads. Nobody trusts dark colored or floral prints at a hotel. 2) fix the hot water 3) remove the median in the parking area 4) most importantly: only renovate with the help of a design professional.

You leave check in and have to walk down the long hall, go outside and walk upstairs to the room. To get ice you have to go downstairs. Also bathroom had a quarter roll of toilet paper and No Second roll in the room. Front desk closed at 9pm. To get the front desk. You have to call a phone number with area code to talk to someone.

This is a vintage motel, comfortable enough, and clean, but not up to date. Easy parking; some restaurants nearby; wifi works well. Most of the usual room furnishings. Coffee machine down the hall, with intermittent refilling. Surprisingly, there is no security for the guest rooms: the access doors to the corridor are unlocked all night, the areas around the access stairs are dark, and the door to our room lacked a security bolt. Even in a quiet town this seems irresponsible. Overall, it's a kind of 1980s student experience.

Staff great. But the external stairs not ideal. Also gravel portion of parking lot has a hard transiruon from paved area and is too narrow. Scraped car twice as poorly lit and narrow passage espexially during storm.

For the amount of money this property charged it was not worth it. There are no staff after 8 PM. The doors to the Inn are open and anyone can walk in or out making me not feel too safe. My room was on the second floor - we had to carry our bag up and it had a separate outside entrance on the side of the building. Also I booked a room for two and they left one bath towel.

Slept great. Bed super comfortable. Clean but dusty. Access to 2nd floor and to the building itself did not feel safe at night.

Bathrooms were small and the carpeting had some stains.

Appears that the original carpet is still on the floor which was soiled, dirty, and paint spills. Remove carpet and lay down laminate flooring. I travelled for 12 days staying in decent hotels and motels, paid less money. This "dump" was the most expensive by far that I stayed in and the worst of all.

It was a relatively nice stay - very easy communication with the front desk. Main complaint was the cleanliness of the room. It was clear that the cleaning process was nothing more than perfunctory. There was hair in the shower and globs of old toothpaste in the sink. We only stayed here for a night so we could pretty easily ignore it, but I think had we stayed for longer I would have been nervous.

There were some stains on my pillow. It didn't look like it did in the pictures I saw before booking it

We get that you don't *have* to try when it's leaf season in Burlington! But this is one of the saddest motels I've ever stayed in—and I can be a thrifty traveler! We paid nearly $350/night for a musty room that has not had any updates since the late 80s. Disgusting carpet, gross comforters, a tiny TV that went in and out (loose hanging wires!) etc. Gross bathroom and vanity area. LITERAL GNATS IN THE ROOM. The only reason I'm giving two stars is the Keurig coffee machine downstairs. At least I could control my morning coffee.

Super clean. Comfortable bed. Microwave and fridge in room. Coffee, tea, and fresh fruit available at hall station. Problem with the air conditioning in our room but manager was great and worked to find us another room. Would definitely stay here again.

Our room was very clean and comfortable. Central to all amenities. We plan on staying there again next year.

This place is a very run down motel. It did not appear to have an elevator yet we were placed on the 2nd floor without even asking if we had mobility issues. The beds are uncomfortable. The bathroom is tiny. The hallways and back stairs are run down. And the air conditioner in the room sounded like a helicopter banging and landing all night. They charged a FORTUNE because of the lack of rooms during the eclipse. Completely not worth it under any circumstances.

Pretty clean room. Room is pretty dated, bed was comfortable. A/C was a little noisy. For the money it was worth it.

Worst thing about the room was the bed. Mattress is too hard and the pillows are a joke. I had to go out and buy pillows. Hotel is quite old and could use some upgrades but it’s not dirty. Employees were are also friendly.

Perfectly clean with comfy beds, but small, tight room, tiny bathroom, rooms face busy road. Suited our needs.

We chose this because of the reviews. The property was great. Very clean. The front desk guy who checked us in was very personable and friendly My daughters and I were there for a concert so we checked in then went to our event. We were on our feet for four hours so we were dead tired. The mattresses were had, the pillows were hard. I’m older (60) and my entire body hurt from laying in the bed. I got up three times just to sit in the chair because it was so uncomfortable. One of my daughters slept fine, the other had the same issue as me

mattress was very hard and uncomfortable, tv was extremely small and they were paving in front of the inn and wouldnt let us in until we pulled into a gas station and told one of the workers that my sons insulin was in the room and we needed to get in and he allowed us to drive on the chewed up pavement and them the trucks made noises all day. We left without using the second night we already paid $192 for !! Room was too hot most of the night since air conditioner was poor

Staff were very friendly and professional. I was very happy with the cleanliness of our room. Check in and out was very easy. I look forward to scheduling my next trip. Greg was fantastic!

Great front desk folks

Excellent place to stay for business travellers. Everything you need, good wifi, quiet, close to conveniences, extremely clean and well kept, and good coffee in the morning. Owners are also quite lovely!

Everything went smooth until I went outside to greet my girlfriend after a 10 hour drive. The key wouldn’t work to get into the room so I called 5 times. I bought the room for 1 night and was locked out all night. I called the next day and was accused of “going downtown, getting too drunk to function a door, and sleeping with a random girl”. In reality I stepped outside for a minute to greet my girlfriend.

My husband and I were traveling for Labor Day weekend to Vermont. We arrived earlier than check in time. I asked if we could by chance check in early. The man was quite rude. Gave me a speech about you have to understand it’s tourism and a busy time, we all know this, no need to be sarcastic.

A quiet, clean and comfortable motel in a convenient location to the greater Burlington area. The price was very reasonable and the main reason we styed here. It exceeded my expectations, and I'd stay there again.

My friend and I spent the final day of a two week trip at South Side Inn....loved the Inn, owner referred us to Shelburne Tap Room for dinner...we walked to the Tap Room, enjoyed great food and wonderful service/atmosphere! We'd again choose this Inn as a place to stay.

The motel was on Shelburne, the main drag which was quite convenient. Restaurants were close by and served good food. The owners purchased it in March and have cleaned and brightened it up. There were microwaves and fridges I our two rooms. There was also a continental breakfast provided.

Our room was clean and comfortable. No frills, basic, good value. Oldish feel to the place. Basic “continental breakfast” available in the morning with coffee and tea available anytime. The only negative for us was street noise. Some renovations/repairs were in progress, but this did not cause us any problem.

Check-in was a breeze. All of the staff we encountered were very nice. There were some breakfast items in the morning (muffins, croissants, bananas, coffee, etc.). The room was very clean and the linens were comfortable. My only complaint, if you could even call it that, would be that the bed was a bit too much on the soft side for me. An overall good experience!

Sure , the carpet is weird, but it is clean and in good condition. The rooms have thoughtful touches like a power strip in front of the bedside table, and the bathroom sink outside the toilet/shower. The breakfast is self-serve and very good, including keurig coffee. Owners are on-site, helpful, and nice. Would absolutely stay again.

Could stand some updates...furnishings somewhat dated. Breakfast could use more options. An affordable place to stay.
