Waterford Castle Hotel & Golf Resort

It is such an unusual venue for a couple from Texas we were totally in awe. The staff were trained very well or were hired because of their outstanding talents.

The experience of taking a ferry onto the island was pretty cool! The estate was vey nice and very authentic. The Staff was very helpful. We were traveling around Ireland in August and this was the warmest day we had experienced but not hot like SC in the States. The only thing that there was no AC in the rooms but it was not too bad. The food was very good. The golf course was fun and had some pretty holes to take pics . We had a great time at this hotel.

Beautiful castle with some updated features. Still gives you the historic feel. Loved the golf course.

Stayed 1 night in a “deluxe” room, the experience started well with the unusual arrival via a short ferry and the drive through the private island, but sadly the luxury experience ended as soon as we had parked up and headed for check-in. Little did we know that the hotel was largely booked out by a huge wedding party, to even get to reception required us to gatecrash through their “private” BBQ held on the lawn in front of hotel. We were looking forward to a quiet stay, but as we went out for evening stroll around the grounds, it became clear that every nook and cranny of the public areas both inside and out had been overtaken by the pre-wedding party. A quiet drink in the bar would have been wonderful given the setting, but the bar was standing room only, so we were left to retreat to our room. The noise from disrespectful guests treating the hotel like they were having their own house party continued until 2am. The room would best be described as “faded luxury”, but worst of all the room was immediately above the service entrance - so we had a wonderful view of a laundry store, staff taking their breaks beneath the window, and in the morning deliveries from around 8am. There was no part of this room that I would describe as “deluxe”. The breakfast buffet was ok, but certainly not worth a walk up price of €29. On check out we mentioned our disappointment by the stay, which was received with a shrug and that “we have weddings usually 3 times a week”.

Amazing property. Wonderful vintage room. Impeccably clean. Food was superb. Overall a must stay.
