This was a fairly large b&b formed by joining 2 houses. These are all in a row of historic houses. The breakfast served was outstanding and was the highlight of our stay. The hosts were fantastic. Getting our luggage to our room was challenging but we were helped by the host. The room was huge with a separate sitting room with a sofa and a day bed. We would definitely stay here again!

Breakfast was amazing, prepared in the dining area by the host while he chatted with guests. They even provided a to-go breakfast when we left early on the ferry. The access to the house from the street is easy to miss, and the outside looks a bit shabby but don’t be put off. Inside is lovely with common areas to sit, read, and visit. The furnishings and decor are suited to another time, adding to the feeling of history. The widows walk is a nice touch, and the outdoor chairs overlooking the harbour were well used by guests. The room itself was large and comfortable though the claw foot tub was quite small. We enjoyed 2 nights while we explored the city, and were quite happy with the experience. Lots of resources (local restaurant menus, guidebooks, etc) were available.

Two historic homes have been combined with a beautiful, sunny addition that flawlessly links the two homes. The property is on a hill, accessed by a narrow driveway with parking and the guest entrance in back. We were warmly greeted upon our arrival, given room keys, dinner suggestions and an offer to help carry in our luggage. Everything inside is perfectly maintained. You will see model ships and historic photos in the common areas. Our room on the 2nd floor was actually the 3rd floor because the reception area was up one flight of stairs. Our room had a double bed, a twin bed, two large windows overlooking the front of the house, a desk, two chairs, a small ensuite bathroom, two robes in the closet and plenty of good lighting. Breakfast with French toast, lots of fresh fruit, granola, yogurt and juice was served in a lovely dining area. We are in our early 70s and had no problem navigating the stairs with our luggage. People challenged by climbing stairs may not find this place suitable.

Beautiful B&B in a historic house. The staff was very attentive to our needs and friendly. They gave us a free upgrade to one of the best rooms in the house. The interior decor, furniture, paintings, a grand piano, and fireplaces: the owners did a great job re-creating the atmosphere of a 19th-century residence. The cooked breakfast was very good. Easy parking in the back of the house. Very close to several main attractions, including the Art Museum.

Stayed in superior room 5 Veranda Room. No veranda. Overall square metre was 28/29 not 42 as booked. There was no room for a third person as advertised. Inside the communal areas were spacious. Outside the exterior was becoming dilapidated and in need of repair and re-decoration.

Truly a lovely building, attractive gardens with delightful breezes,, and the proprietors are hospitality personified. And the breakfast!! Totally divine. However, our room was stifling - car temp registered 91 degrees on drive over. There was an oscillating fan pushing air around and we ran the exhaust fan non-stop but there was NO WAY to get fresh air into the room because the windows are nailed shut. In addition to being uncomfortable, this was disconcerting because the fire escape options included exiting the window to the flat roof and stairs down (we were on a third floor). I would stay again but in cold weather only.

Although only there for one night, we had an enjoyable experience. Rooms clean, bed comfy, shower awesome. Morning breakfast was delicious; coffee amazing. Easy check-in and hosts accommodating; parking a bonus.

The cleaning needs to be improved, with dust and dirt visible on windows and window ledges, on dressers. The bathroom was pretty clean though. We also didn’t find the mattress in room 9 comfortable. It had a noticeable dip and loud springs when we moved at night. Consequently we did not have a good first night’s rest. To their credit they moved us into another room upon request, where the mattress was perfectly fine. Although given Neil’s tone and line of questioning us about it I’m not certain we were taken seriously. On a final note, breakfast was delicious every day.

The breakfast here was nothing short of amazing. The dining area is beautiful. The staff were friendly and professional. The reception area is clean and bright with beautiful antiques but there is where it ended. In room 4 the bed was squeaky and old, the rug was dirty and the woodwork was badly chipped. The sink cabinet in the bathroom was bare wood and the furniture in the room was badly scratched. This is a beautiful inn but they need to start renovating the rooms if they expect a 4.5 rating to continue.

Very unique, historic B&B with lovely owners...it's older but that's part of the charm! The bathroom was squeaky clean and we had everything we needed in our standard room. (My cousins' deluxe rooms were more spacious and that's where we gathered for wine and conversation.) Breakfast was delicious, with friendly conversation with the owner/chef. Could've stayed longer!

The carpet in the room was stained and dirty, the mattress was very hard and felt like it was purchased cheap at a discount mattress store, and there is no real soundproofing so we were awoken several times by other guests. The kicker is the place was not cheap—the room was not worth anywhere near what we paid. Don’t be fooled by the photos, this “inn” has zero charm and although it’s in an old building did not feel “historic” in any way.

Very nice historic detail. Breakfast was wonderful. Owners are very helpful and made great suggestions for outside dining (loved Lilly’s). Only issue is that St.John is a noisy city (trains going by at night blast horns). Not a problem of the inn - any hotel, inn in the area has the issue.

We loved our stay at this location. This is a place with personality and some history. The room was clean, the beds were soft, and fresh coffee was waiting for us in the lobby. We had room number 1, next to a busy street which was unfortunate. Traffic almost never stopped and since it was a warm night, it was our choice to keep the window open (even though the room had a fan). The breakfast in the morning was exceptional, and the chef/owner was extremely personable. I already look forward to our next stay at this B&B which is only in a few days. Highly recommended!

A grand old house. We felt we were transported back into an earlier age, which was a very pleasant experience. Our rooms were spacious, warm and inviting. Breakfast was, as noted elsewhere, great. This place would earn a higher rating if more attention was paid to maintenance of the small things...for example towel bars and bathroom shelving that were hanging by a thread from the wall. They became unusable. Elsewhere, a little paint would go a long way. Still...we felt welcomed by the owners and wish them well in a tough business.

Wonderful service from check-in to check-out! The Captain’s suite was spacious and clean, and the entire inn is filled with wonderful antiques and local historical photos. The breakfast was delightful, and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. We will be visiting again on our next trip to Saint John

Good location and nice view of the city. Easy to get into the downtown area of the city (locals call it uptown). Excellent breakfast. All rooms have tubs with a shower. Some have a deep claw foot tub with a makeshift shower, so if you don’t like that then request a room with a regular tub.

We had a premium suite and it was very nice and quite large however, in such a large room, a king size bed would have been preferred and as opposed to a queen and perhaps a new mattress should be thought of

We loved almost everything about our experience there except for two things: I found a shower to be rather dangerous looking for a place to hold on. Second thing the bed we are used to at least a queen size bed, and it was only a double bed so we had a great deal of difficulty in sleeping. Also, the bed was a little soft for our comfort.

This was a fairly large b&b formed by joining 2 houses. These are all in a row of historic houses. The breakfast served was outstanding and was the highlight of our stay. The hosts were fantastic. Getting our luggage to our room was challenging but we were helped by the host. The room was huge with a separate sitting room with a sofa and a day bed. We would definitely stay here again!

The hosts were warm and welcoming and very helpful. We felt more like guests than visitors. The breakfast was ample and delicious—a far cry from your standard “breakfast included “ hotel. The architecture of the building itself was beautiful and the hosts knew the history well. We had a lovely stay and would absolutely recommend this property.

I did not enjoy my stay there, the Host Lane, was not friendly at all, check in was at 3, I arrived by taxi at 2:52, had to phone her to let me in as door was locked, she sounded annoyed by that and told me that she was still doing housecleaning and would let me in at 3!!! She let me in about 2;55 but she seemed annoyed by it, never smiled.. was in a big rush for me to pay my bill, the only information she gave me was that breakfast was at 8:30 or 9,and which time did i want, did i have any food allergys, and where to put the keys when i left. The outside of building is in bad need of repair; the so called garden area is full of weeds and neglect, inside the furniture is old and worn and dirty . There is no ice machine and she seemed annoyed when i asked for some. I never felt welcome there at all, and I was there for 4 days. It was a wierd experience and I would never stay there again and will not recommend it either.

Owners were very professional and accommodating. Room was quite spacious and very quiet. Hot breakfast was excellent! Enjoyed access to Kuerig coffee. All in all, a great experience. Will definitely recommend and will stay again on future trip.

The biggest problem with this property was finding it. It is hidden from the street by a large stone wall and a steeply sloped drive...and there was absolutely no lighting at street level. The rooms were large and commodious, but ours had a discernible odour, which we hoped was attributable only to its age! Breakfast was abundant and delicious...and beautifully presented.

This is a lovely older property in a great location on a hill overlooking St. John. It is convenient for the reversing tides and Uptown St. John. The proprietors are very friendly - Lane told us about the restaurant by the reversing falls which was fun - the husband of the two cooks the excellent breakfast. He was very helpful to us in planning our trip up the New Brunswick Coast - suggesting the sea caves and Fundy Trail which we did not know about. Just one word of caution- the stairs are a little tricky for an older person - they were fine for us but I can see that they could be difficult for someone who is not in great walking condition. Overall, excellent stay.

It's a really pretty, and convenient location. Parking is tight for a larger vehicle. It's not obvious until you have already made your choice between the 2 driveway entrances, but take the one to the right of the house.

Breakfast was amazing, prepared in the dining area by the host while he chatted with guests. They even provided a to-go breakfast when we left early on the ferry. The access to the house from the street is easy to miss, and the outside looks a bit shabby but don’t be put off. Inside is lovely with common areas to sit, read, and visit. The furnishings and decor are suited to another time, adding to the feeling of history. The widows walk is a nice touch, and the outdoor chairs overlooking the harbour were well used by guests. The room itself was large and comfortable though the claw foot tub was quite small. We enjoyed 2 nights while we explored the city, and were quite happy with the experience. Lots of resources (local restaurant menus, guidebooks, etc) were available.

This was our second time at this B & B, and we're glad to be back. We stayed in St. John on our way from Vermont to PEI, and we did the same thing on our return trip. While the outside of this property could use some TLC in the paint department, the inside of this historic building is immaculate and filled with historic charm. Just be aware that you need to go up a flight of stairs to reach the lobby level. BTW, there's always free, fresh coffee available (KEURIG), as well as water. Our room (number 1), had a double and a single bed and a private bathroom with a charming tub. It's by no means a huge room, but all we needed was a place to shower and sleep. The mattresses are excellent, and the bedding is soft. The B & B itself is an easy, ten-minute drive from uptown St. John where all the restaurants are. Speaking of food, the breakfast that's prepared in front of you at this B & B was once again out of this world and based on fresh ingredients. The chef is well-traveled, and happy to share his experiences with you. My wife can have no gluten at all, and this place is very safe for people suffering from Celiacs disease! Next year we're going to Cape Breton, and we'll be sure to stay at this B & B again. We can't recommend it enough!

The hot, home-cooked breakfast with fresh fruit is wonderful! Staff is helpful and friendly. Shops are approximately 1 mile walking distance, and there is a bus that goes to the mall down the block. Within walking distance of the first nations footpath, Bay of Fundy, restaurants.

This is a lovely place to stay. We had an early ferry the next morning, and we were provided with a nice variety of food and snacks in our takeaway box lunch. I would happily stay here again if I’m in the area.

This Historic B&B? is in decline. Our reception was less than friendly and welcoming. The room was a miss-match of questionabe historic appointments and modern furnishings Plus the exterior needs attention. Property is not senior friendly with too many dangerous stairs. It is, however, conveniently located to uptown city tourism center. The bathroom had no shower soap and the old claw toed bathtub was dangerous to get in and out of . NO air conditioning! Had to keep windows open for ventilation. The highlight of the stay was the delightful breakfast served.
