Mercure Aberdeen Caledonian Hotel

The property is very rundown and not in good condition. Our room door had been damaged and was repaired with Glue and Staples??? The bathroom is extremely dated and needs help The bed is an old thin spring mattress with very little padding Rooms are hot but you can open the windows and they do provide a fan but I wouldn’t stay on a hot weekend

Nice hotel, shame the parking is extortionately priced at £10 per 24hrs.

The lift was not working and our rooms were on level 3 and 4. We were not offered any assistance with our luggage even when we asked.

Parking lot is difficult to find

There is no hotel parking included in the room price. There is a public parking nearby and the hotel stuff tells you to park there. They shouldn't include hotel parking in their features. A public parking is not a hotel parking!

Parking is expensive, should be included in the stay. A great hotel and great food with friendly staff

Superb, friendly and straightforward check in. Room was clean and spacious Bathroom was clean and fully stocked Only downside was lift was out of order!

An old Aberdeen hotel which has maintained high standards. Nice lounge area & very good food. Tiny car park is a problem

Just a 2 min, walk to the High Street and 8 min walk to the City Centre. With ample fast food and top quality bars and restaurants within a 5 min walk of the hotel. The room was warm with dated furniture and furnishings. Beds were comfortable and made for a good night's sleep. Car parking is to the side of the hotel. This comes with a £10 overnight stay charge. Not included within the hotel price.

Needs USB ports in rooms. Parking is poor.

Room was filthy stains on the floor chair and bedding booked for 3 night but left after 1 night

This was likely a lovely hotel 75 years ago. The staff are pleasant, but cannot do much about the conditions. (Some of the carpets were thread bare and we had mold on our windows.) I would not recommend this property unless there is nothing else within 25 miles of Aberdeen.

Clean room

Threadbare and dirty carpets, chair in the room was filthy, peeling wallpaper on walls and ceiling, one window would only open 4 inches, the other wouldn’t stay open at all which isn’t great in a room with no air conditioning, shower head fell apart. A very old and tired hotel that needs time and money spent on it. Much better available nearby for the same or similar cost. I’d give 5 stars to the person who took the photos for the website, they’re clearly very talented at showing something below par in its best light.

The room has a horrible smell that is strong and won’t go away. Carpet needs deep cleaning or to be replaced. Furniture is dated and looks dirty. No trash can in room. Front desk is very nice and knowledgeable.

This hotel was the perfect stay in Aberdeen! It was so close to everything and the staff was so nice. There were some minor issues with cleanliness but they remedied them very quickly. I would stay here again.

Hotel was very comfortable. Great hairdryer. Eveything catered for. Room and bathroom spotless. Shower was brilliant too Plenty tea, coffee provided. Convenient for where we were going. Had a fantastic nights sleep. No complaints whatsoever. Didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment on that. We’ll def be back next time we are in Aberdeen. And almost forgot to say the price was very competitive compared to other hotels in the area. Excellent.

Very shabby poor rooms, below par. Cracked walls drafty windows rattling breeze coming in. Dirty. One tea bag for two guests for two nights not refilled, stained pillows thin not comfortable at all, stained carpet with leaking radiator which also didn’t work. Avoid at all costs

Comfortable clean and spacious

Great location. However, we had a bathroom with a door that wouldn't close, and there was lots of dust/dirt on the carpet. The furniture and decor in the room was very old and tired with lots of damage and chips.

Stayed Sunday overnight - an incredible amount of loud booming music noise coming from the clubs across the railway bridge, until 2 am, resulting in only getting 4-5 hours of sleep. Also, the room we were in (115) did have a very bright light, right outside the window, which did shine right through into the room.

I’ve stayed here before and always been good. Not so great this time. Impossible to turn down blazing hot radiator in room. Guests shouting in corridor between 12am-3pm meant little sleep. Iron board in wardrobe was in really poor condition. Whole experience was one where I felt hotel was beginning to feel a bit dated and neglected. Breakfast was decent though, and not too expensive either.

The location of the hotel is excellent right on Union terrace with easy transport links and easy walk to most places. The hotel itself though is rather tired and even though the room was comfortable enough, the drawers were dirty and chipped. Service was fine. More a 3 star hotel than 4 star. I recently stayed in Mercure Hannover in Germany and that was miles ahead of this.

Huge room A little tired in places

A fairly tired property with a long list of things that just aren’t quite right: curtains that don’t shut, not very comfortable bed, rundown furniture, tired decor. Just a bit shabby throughout. However, I will say that it serves its purpose. A well located very central hotel. I would choose to stay here again, I would just have a better anticipation of what it was I was getting.

Great old historic hotel with great views of the park and local churches. About a 4 block walk to the train station. Good shopping I booked this property even with mixed reviews, because it was important to me that I got a hotel within walking distance of the train station. The hotel entrance did not disappoint me. I had booked a suite to relax. What bothered me, which I why I gave this hotel a 3, was that for the price I was paying, they installed a small very noisy space heater, because none of the main heating system was working in the 300 sf double room suite. I turned it off before dinner and after dinner it was very cold. So I went to front desk if I could be moved to a heated room and was told I would have to wait till tomorrow. I didn't sleep well over the night. The space heater was noisy and then the rooms got to hot. Today I am in a different suite where the heating is working. My question is why sell one the most expensive rooms when the heat is not working, or why not move me the same night to any room and offer a cash discount for the inconvenience. I do want to say that the evening dinner and the breakfast were very satisfactory. In moving to my new room, I noticed that the shower head was missing. Front desk advised me that on a monthly basis all shower faucets are removed and cleaned. If it wasn't for my cold suite on arrival, I would have ranked it a 5.

Paid a premium for a deluxe room. Room was quite bare with little in the way of amenities. Windows facing on to union street were so old that they mayaswell have been removed. Could hear every noise from union street through the night. Also, there was an adjoining room with another guest only separated by a flimsy door. Could hear them breathe never mind everything else they got up to. Attempted to get a refund shortly after check in which would allow us time to get another hotel. Hotel staff said they’d get back to us within half an hour but of course they did not. Shambles of a hotel. Avoid.

Room was fine except for the heat. Was a small room and although I’d switched the radiator off, the heat emanating from the heated towel rail was over bearing with no way of turning it down or off. The heat in the bathroom was like walking into a sauna. It was so high it also made the bedroom too hot and I had to sleep with the windows open. Made for a bit of an uncomfortable stay. Otherwise fine…..just turn down the heat!

The ladies at the front desk were always so kind and helpful to me. Also had great breakfast options. Would definitely stay here again.

I loved my stay in a single room . One night stay and the staff were amazing.

Service was wonderful, they were so accommodating and kind. Breakfast was amazing and the daily chef-made breads were 5-star! A great location, beautiful park and easy access to city centre.

Terrible service, they were overbooked and had 'found me another room at a nearby hotel'. I noted they emailed me 5 times before my arrival to see if I wanted to order extras etc but no warning they were kicking me out to another much cheaper hotel. No apology.

The premises and the neighborhood are charming, but the night staff was outstanding. My friend left her cell phone in our Edinburgh hotel. When she explained the situation to the man on Mercure Aberdeen's night desk, without asking, he was kind enough to contact the hotel in Edinburgh, ask them to look for it, and then put it aside for my friend to pick up upon our return. We were so appreciative!

Friendly staff

This hotel is an excellent choice and I've stayed here multiple times. The location is great: an easy walk from the rail station, and close to shops, dining options, bus stops and points of interest. The neighbourhood is surprisingly quiet at night, which means a good sleep. The hotel dining is quite good, with vegetarian options and a varied menu. Perhaps the best element is the staff, who are consistently friendly and accommodating. Despite prevalent corporate policies emphasizing profit over people, resulting in chronic understaffing and overworked employees, the staff of this hotel make the difference. With its charming architecture, clean rooms, helpful staff, and a comfortable feel, I will gladly continue to stay here every time I visit Aberdeen.

Convenient location in the centre of Aberdeen. Helpful and friendly staff. Tasty food in the restaurant. Nice room.

Fabulous breakfast. Great location.

The room was comfortable and clean. Plenty of hot water! With a choice of bath or shower. The reeption staff were very welcoming and courteous. I had an evening meal and was impressed that there was a choice of two vegan options. Breakfast was buffet style andample, with fresh fruit a bonus. I had one of the best night's sleep I've had for a while. Thank you

Clean and central location. Breakfast OK but not many options besides full english. Vegetables and cold cuts close to nothing. One slow elevator. Doublebed only 120cm wide.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast, and it was refreshing to have a refrigerator in the room. It's an older building so the floors aren't exactly level, but that didn't bother me. Nice location. Would stay here again.

This is a very old hotel being restored. It was in a great location. The room was comfortable and clean. However there were no written instructions on how to use central heating, etc in the room, or that there were safety alarms that could be set off. ( to which staff always responded) Breakfast was fabulous as was the restaurant food. Some of the staff were helpful, some rude and abrupt so one can’t generalise.

Amazing breakfast

Good quick check in, room was nice. Only thing that spoiled it a little was when a lady came in for breakfast 5 minutes late to be told breakfast is over. Most items were still out on display. Poor from the waitress.
