Beautiful overnight stay. Booked just the evening before and requested ground floor room if avaliable. It was indeed and such a beautiful room too (004). Staff were friendly and helpful too. Bed was giant and very comfortable and clean. Pool area was great with sauna, steam and jacuzzi and towels for you. Wouldn't hesitate to book again

Friendly hotel in a quiet and scenic location in the Trossachs. Staff were helpful and there are good facilities including the swimming pool. Lots of local activities are available although water sports were closed when we were there. Traditional food was cooked excellently but there was a South Asian menu where curries were very fiery and service for these slow.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The gym and pool facilities were fantastic. Our room was very spacious and immaculate and on the ground floor which was easy access for our dog. One thing to be aware of is that the dining slots book up quickly - it might be worth ringing the hotel before your stay and arranging what time you would like dinner for. When we checked in our only options were 5.30pm or 8.30pm with nothing in between. This in no way marred our view of the hotel and the staff were always very attentive - just something to be aware of.

Bed really comfortable, nice view from room, breakfast delicious & nice to see vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Great to have spa facilities on site. However, jacuzzi not working & we were told it would be by tomorrow (we were only staying 1-night). It would have been nice to have the leisure facilities open earlier before the children got in. The hairdryers didn’t work in ladies changing room. Overall the upkeep of the hotel was dated. Paintwork falling off in places, old decor, holes in ceiling. Otherwise, good gym facilities. Spectacular views over surrounding grounds.

The hotel was nice, but it was obvious it has seen better days. Food in the restaurant was very good. Spa and pool facilities were unfortunately below average. Changing area dated and not exactly clean. Staff in the reception, bar and restaurant were friendly and helpful.

It should really be a 5 tar hotel but let’s itself down in too many ways. Positives: The building is beautiful. The gardens and surroundings the equal of anywhere I have stayed. Negatives: The swimming pool is the most horrendously over chlorinated pool I have been in this side of 1990. End result from using it is a severe ear infection. The decor is nice enough in a traditionally kitsch Scottish fashion, but looking a little dated. The food was okay, but nothing you won’t get in any decent pub in the UK. The continental breakfast was, by a distance, the poorest value for money breakfast I have ever paid for. We were a little late going down(9:15am) and at that stage all that remained was a couple of options for cerial, 3 croissants, and a handful of tiny pancakes. Given a few other tables joined around the same time, this didn’t go far, and it took far longer than it really should have to top up what was there, and that top up wasn’t a huge amount more than what was there when we first walked in. That said, our breakfast was probably more enjoyable than the couple who asked for a table next to one of the windows and were told thy couldn’t sit there as the tables were still dirty, and were then told that the kitchen was unable to cook an omelette. I have stayed at other McDonald Hotels and they have been excellent, but this one was a let down. It wouldn’t take a huge amount of time and effort to make it worth its name.

The destination was beautiful and the grounds and surrounding areas is stunning! If you’re looking for a -“quiet”break I would maybe consider looking else where as there was a lot of shouting and singing at the night time outside and on the corridors. We could also hear people banging from up stairs. We came here for a chilled quiet rest from daily life but it wasn’t the case as it’s a very active hotel. The gym equipment was old and faulty however the staff did apologise and advise they was getting new equipment soon. The Jacuzzi wasn’t open and the steam room wasn’t The best steam room. Over all rating outing over 5 I would give 3 which is unfortunate

It was very disappointing that the pool is shut in a spa hotel! We received a notification that was shut two days after the free cancellation period. Arrived in the hotel and it is definitely not air-conditioned! Facilities are dated and quite disappointing to be honest

Immediate starting point for Ben Venue hike with showers and indoor pool for cool down afterwards (which can be used after check out) make it worth the money. Standard full English breakfast with a number of continental sides given in picturesque dining room was on level with any reputable bed and breakfast but obviously some guests expected a full buffet akin to major chains (despite the clear language upon booking). Comfortable beds in spacious rooms that have seen better days. Areas beyond the lobby are dated with wear and tear that a flagged hotel would not permit. Has a campy, vacation lodge feel not a spa and resort feel. Families and older travelers on short stays seem to predominate. Staff were quite pleasant and helpful. Would stay again if doing something in very immediate vicinity.

The staff were pleasant and friendly. The room was a good size for family. The mould on the windows was very offputting. Unfer the bed hadnt been cleaned in quite some time. The fold out bed for the kids was not comfortable however the bed for adults was. The portion sizes at dinner were small. Kids were hungry afterwards. Over priced Taste of food was good but not exceptional

The room was plesent enough. However the leisure facilities were awful, tiny gym with hardly any weights, the cardio machines had faulty screens & no water. The sauna was dirty, aswell as the changing/shower & toilets. Paint flaking off dusty vents & benches, missing tiles. Hardly any lockers worked, the thermal rain shower did not work & there were no showers to use in between the pool/thermal areas.

On arrival, the hotel reception staff were busily trying to find us accommodation as per our booking through Expedia (3 nights). For some reason, Expedia allowed our booking to go through when the hotels had no rooms available to on the Saturday night. We were asked to wait 1/2 an hour in the bar while they fixed. We asked for a good menu but unfortunately the kitchen closes as 8:30. This meant a 20 minute round trip to the local co-op as nowhere served food after 8:30 in the Aberfoyle area. The breakfast was awful, no vegetarian menu options available. On perusing the continental breakfast I spotted a long dark hair on the fruit platter; I alerted the staff who said they would removed. I thought they would removed the whole tray but to my, and my partners horror, they brought kitchen tweezers and carefully removed the hair - I couldn’t believe my eyes. Needless to say, I did not pay the £26 per head for breakfast nor did we eat dinner or breakfast again during our stay. Lots of better / cheaper options available in Aberfoyle.

Mixed feelings. We were wowed by the location, views, gardens, general bar and main restaurant areas. The staff were lovely and the main restaurant food was excellent. Our experience of the bistro food was poor We had spacious apartment (good deal offer), very old and tatty, - ‘heart sink’ moment on arrival to the block. The bed and linen was good quality and we slept soundly. The balcony was dirty and grubby.

Mouldy shower. Very tired. Understaffed. Pool was shut. Dinner menu basic and uninspiring pub food. Didn’t have any glasses of wine on list (order hadn’t arrived apparenty). Massively overcharged for another glass (£18). Poor breakfast selection. Overall, a very tired, run down place. Not recommended.

The location is very good. apartment is average, old looking and dark. stairs leading up to the apartment was unclean and filthy. Front door key was fiddly and difficult to open most of the times. Sauna was nice and the most important plus point in the apartment.

Surroundings and grounds of hotel beautiful breathe taking. Rooms dated and lodges had mould as well as stained duvets and ripped sofas heating issues which made us lose a night at the lodge since it was cold had to wait for it to be fixed the next day. Not hygienic. Staff especially manager Sam extremely rude and sarcastic. Loved the area thoigh pools and spa lovely clean but rooms and lodges really need sever tlc staff need hospitality training

Rooms dated and lodges had mould as well as stained duvets and ripped sofas heating issues which made us lose a night at the lodge since it was cold had to wait for it to be fixed the next day. Not hygienic. Staff especially manager Sam extremely rude and sarcastic. Loved the area thoigh pools and spa lovely clean but rooms and lodges really need sever tlc staff need hospitality training

Rooms were supposed to be ready 5pm, which is fairly late by many hotel standards, nevertheless rooms weren't available until around 7pm. Nice apartments with great views, but no elevators and no help with luggage up 3 floors.

What a lovely hotel in beautiful countryside. The staff in Reception were so friendly and helpful. The room was large with a lounge area and very comfortable. We used the swimming pool after check in which was super and quite warm! The dining room is lovely with wonderful views across to Loch Ard and the bar / lounge area very cosy and comfortable. There are so many walks to do around. We hope to come back and try more of them. The evening meal was overpriced. The Cumberland sausage and mash was very good though I felt I had to add more vegetables (which cost an extra£6!). My husband’s Indian starter of fried haggis and paneer was very tasty but his Chicken tikka was so disappointing as it consisted of a plain chicken breast sitting in some fairly mild tikka sauce - bearing no resemblance to the original dish with a small amount of rice and a little naan bread.

The staff were lovely. The suite we had was spacious but a bit dated. The breakfasts were great however the dinner menu and meals we thought were mediocre especially for a 4 star hotel.

Unfortunately we did not have internet for 3 nights. And despite informing the hotel mutiple times they promised us to fix it the follwoing day and on the following day it still was not fixed which was extremely inconvenient as we had no coverage on our cellphone.

Very nice place to relax and enjoy time with family. We had a wonderful view over the loch. The rooms furnitures are old, and the floor makes a squeaky noise when walking around the rooms.

One night stay for my partners birthday. Check in speedy and room was very clean and comfortable. One of the complimentary bottles of water was empty but a call to reception resolved this promptly. Bed was super comfy, views from room over the Loch were stunning. Breakfast was delicious in morning. Probably one of best hotel breakfasts ever had. Staff brilliant, location the best. Limited mobile signal on most networks and WiFi patchy but when here for a getaway, you won’t need either.

The hotel staff were really nice and friendly. The food was lovely and reasonably priced The leisure facilities was clean and fairly modern. Only down side was the noise in the room, I was on a ground floor room and could clearly hear the occupants above with someone obviously leaving early I would suggest requesting an upstairs room if you can.

The external of the hotel is tired looking. We stayed in a luxury room which was spacious but furniture was tired and the bed creaked noisily when making the slightest move.There was mould staining in the bath sealant. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The hotel is set in a beautiful location and there are stunning views across Loch Ard. I enjoyed the food .the rstraunt is very pleasant.

Immediate starting point for Ben Venue hike with showers and indoor pool for cool down afterwards (which can be used after check out) make it worth the money. Standard full English breakfast with a number of continental sides given in picturesque dining room was on level with any reputable bed and breakfast but obviously some guests expected a full buffet akin to major chains (despite the clear language upon booking). Comfortable beds in spacious rooms that have seen better days. Areas beyond the lobby are dated with wear and tear that a flagged hotel would not permit. Has a campy, vacation lodge feel not a spa and resort feel. Families and older travelers on short stays seem to predominate. Staff were quite pleasant and helpful. Would stay again if doing something in very immediate vicinity.

Lovely grounds and setting, beautiful hotel let down by the restaurant prices and staff who are not trained. Waited over 10 minutes to be seated for breakfast which is fine if you are at least acknowledged! No gluten free options in sports bar (which is like sitting in a sports center cafe!)

The view of the hotel is really nice and where located is good, however that’s where it ends. The hotel is old but very tired looking, could actually do with a freshen up. On the first floor there is a musty smell. Went to the bar for a drink prior to dinner, selection very poor, and don’t have ingredients for cocktails and the staff don’t know how to do them anyway. The bottle of cola was warm and I mentioned this, was informed the fridge has been broken for 2 months with nor repair or replacement insight. Went for dinner and ordered water, the young girl spilt the water over my wife and table whilst pouring. She thought this was funny as she laughed and left without drying the table or offering anything to my wife. The food arrived where I had the fish, the oil from the batter oozed out of and the side was freezing, the chip (only 6) were thick but undercooked. My wife had Cumberland sausage and mash, with onion gravy, their onion consisted of 2 onion rigs???. They didn’t charge for the meal, but they did charge for my wife’s green veg. Next day went for breakfast, no toast or coffee machine, you have to order. Some their full English is quite sparse, but you do get half a mushroom. Our stay was very disappointing and the pool isn’t very big, their jacuzzi big enough for 3 people and their sauna is small, like a tiny garden shed. When complaining at reception you get a card as like the other poor reviews the manager is never available. It’s very overpriced not recommend.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The gym and pool facilities were fantastic. Our room was very spacious and immaculate and on the ground floor which was easy access for our dog. One thing to be aware of is that the dining slots book up quickly - it might be worth ringing the hotel before your stay and arranging what time you would like dinner for. When we checked in our only options were 5.30pm or 8.30pm with nothing in between. This in no way marred our view of the hotel and the staff were always very attentive - just something to be aware of.

On arrival, the hotel reception staff were busily trying to find us accommodation as per our booking through Expedia (3 nights). For some reason, Expedia allowed our booking to go through when the hotels had no rooms available to on the Saturday night. We were asked to wait 1/2 an hour in the bar while they fixed. We asked for a good menu but unfortunately the kitchen closes as 8:30. This meant a 20 minute round trip to the local co-op as nowhere served food after 8:30 in the Aberfoyle area. The breakfast was awful, no vegetarian menu options available. On perusing the continental breakfast I spotted a long dark hair on the fruit platter; I alerted the staff who said they would removed. I thought they would removed the whole tray but to my, and my partners horror, they brought kitchen tweezers and carefully removed the hair - I couldn’t believe my eyes. Needless to say, I did not pay the £26 per head for breakfast nor did we eat dinner or breakfast again during our stay. Lots of better / cheaper options available in Aberfoyle.

After driving 7 hours for my birthday weekend I could not have envisaged the catalogue of incompetence I was about to experience. Reception couldn’t find my booking despite me showing them the booking number on my phone. The girl on reception handed the hotel phone at me and told me to deal with it. I couldn’t use my own phone as the hotel wi-if was not working. Finally they gave me a room. When we got there the door was ajar and all the furniture had been pushed to the middle of the room. I went back to reception where I was told by a it was being decorated. Tried sending me to another room that was also being decorated, before putting us into a disabled room with the heating off. The temperature outside was 3 degrees. We had to go downstairs to warm up. We finally got to our room after 9pm when the room was a little warmer. When I asked to speak to a Manager I was informed he went home at 3pm but he’d contact me next day. No contact was made. Throughout this ordeal I was treated like this was my fault. There were no apologies and no attempts to compensate us. Their main focus on checking out was making sure they had my Expedia booking details so they could get their money. A beautiful hotel which should have offered an amazing experience. The hotel was not cheap but the service from the reception and management was not befitting such a lovely place. I hope all Macdonald hotels aren’t run the same. On a positive note, the bar and restaurant staff were first class.

Friendly hotel in a quiet and scenic location in the Trossachs. Staff were helpful and there are good facilities including the swimming pool. Lots of local activities are available although water sports were closed when we were there. Traditional food was cooked excellently but there was a South Asian menu where curries were very fiery and service for these slow.

Staff very friendly. Our room had a beautiful view of the gardens and Loch. Peaceful stay, good food and a lovely atmosphere. The drive to the hotel is stunning, the road in places run next to the Loch with amazing scenery.

Bed really comfortable, nice view from room, breakfast delicious & nice to see vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. Great to have spa facilities on site. However, jacuzzi not working & we were told it would be by tomorrow (we were only staying 1-night). It would have been nice to have the leisure facilities open earlier before the children got in. The hairdryers didn’t work in ladies changing room. Overall the upkeep of the hotel was dated. Paintwork falling off in places, old decor, holes in ceiling. Otherwise, good gym facilities. Spectacular views over surrounding grounds.

We booked this hotel at the last minute rather than going into Glasgow. It's unique. Hard to describe really. Our apartment not only had a kitchen and three bathrooms, but also a fully functioning sauna. the rugs were a bit dingy but overall it was amazing. the staff could not be more helpful or pleasant. We only ate at the restaurant once for a Caesar salad, and I might skip that. the grounds are stunning as you can see in the photos. A couple things you might want to know. It is VERY remote. it's 20 minutes on single track to get to aberfoyle, the closest very small town. But we did go to Ballard, a bit farther and took the train into Glasgow from there one day, Also wonderful access to Loch Loman and Loch Katrine and Sterling. Also the Expedia website says that the hotel does not have a reception desk and that there is no check in after 7 pm. This is not true. Wonderful reception open all hours.

Hotel was nice and our family room was ideal. Pool and leisure complex were great. Breakfast was fine, although a little cold when it arrived. Dinner tasted nice, although not great portions. Biggest area that let the hotel down was the price of food and drink. £24 for a chicken or vegetarian was OTT especially as its not exactly top notch food, plus £13 for a glass of wine and £7.85 for a pint of lager. Basically costs like this means we will not be returning. I'm glad breakfast was included as if i had paid £25 for it i would not have been happy.

What a lovely hotel in beautiful countryside. The staff in Reception were so friendly and helpful. The room was large with a lounge area and very comfortable. We used the swimming pool after check in which was super and quite warm! The dining room is lovely with wonderful views across to Loch Ard and the bar / lounge area very cosy and comfortable. There are so many walks to do around. We hope to come back and try more of them. The evening meal was overpriced. The Cumberland sausage and mash was very good though I felt I had to add more vegetables (which cost an extra£6!). My husband’s Indian starter of fried haggis and paneer was very tasty but his Chicken tikka was so disappointing as it consisted of a plain chicken breast sitting in some fairly mild tikka sauce - bearing no resemblance to the original dish with a small amount of rice and a little naan bread.

The staff were lovely. The suite we had was spacious but a bit dated. The breakfasts were great however the dinner menu and meals we thought were mediocre especially for a 4 star hotel.

We had a lovely stay in this hotel. Rooms are spacious but would benefit from some renovation as they are quite old. Swimming pool was quite good. I really lived the steam room with added fragrance. Sauna was good too. Area around the hotel is stunning offering nature walks, water sports and peaceful rest. The restaurant service however left mixed feelings. Its the first time I’ve ever seen supplement charge for all breakfast menu meals but English breakfast (£7 if you want anything else and doesn’t matter you already paid for your breakfast). Oh, also, if you want latte or capuccino, get ready to pay an extra £4 per cup. Buffet was surprisingly small and most items were gone very quickly (on the first day all deli was gone and was filled only when few people asked about it and next day all jam jars were empty too). Also, restaurant staff was a bit arrogant and there is definitely lack of training and understanding what customer service is. Dinner menu is ok but taste wise nothing special and honestly prices were too high for such an average meal. Overall its a nice place if you’re not a foodie and can munch your full English every day

Friendly hotel in a quiet and scenic location in the Trossachs. Staff were helpful and there are good facilities including the swimming pool. Lots of local activities are available although water sports were closed when we were there. Traditional food was cooked excellently but there was a South Asian menu where curries were very fiery and service for these slow.

Hotel in lovely setting unfortunately let down by few problems. 1. One day breakfast taking over a hour to be served. 2. Bread shown toaster that was far as it went. 3. Frozen bread and extremely heavy. 4. Last morning hardly anything there and not topped up 5.Evening meals over priced and small,portions. 6. Do not appreciate been quizzed as to why I asked for service charge to be removed. Waiter asked me why was the service not any good? I do not tip as I pay for your service through my accommodation charge. Most of the staff were lovely and the room was lovely and clean. The hotel ,is quite away from Callendar.

Location amazing , staff friendly BUT food was awful !!! Had to order off restaurant menu as ate after 8 pm as they were too busy to accommodate us earlier , food was more like basic café standard…. Really disappointing

The room was nice and comfortable, though a bit dated. Unfortunately, breakfast was a real disappointment — service was slow, as we had to order at the table and waited around 15 minutes just for coffee. The food itself was low quality and not worth the wait.

On arrival, the hotel reception staff were busily trying to find us accommodation as per our booking through Expedia (3 nights). For some reason, Expedia allowed our booking to go through when the hotels had no rooms available to on the Saturday night. We were asked to wait 1/2 an hour in the bar while they fixed. We asked for a good menu but unfortunately the kitchen closes as 8:30. This meant a 20 minute round trip to the local co-op as nowhere served food after 8:30 in the Aberfoyle area. The breakfast was awful, no vegetarian menu options available. On perusing the continental breakfast I spotted a long dark hair on the fruit platter; I alerted the staff who said they would removed. I thought they would removed the whole tray but to my, and my partners horror, they brought kitchen tweezers and carefully removed the hair - I couldn’t believe my eyes. Needless to say, I did not pay the £26 per head for breakfast nor did we eat dinner or breakfast again during our stay. Lots of better / cheaper options available in Aberfoyle.

Gorgeous location. Beds were super comfy and rooms spacious if a little dated. No fridges but staff kind enough to store things in the bar fridge where needed. The real downside was the food - undercooked pastry on both desserts. The breakfast would have been great if for the lacking in alternative milks (one of our party was vegan) so we were unable to enjoy coffee/tea, cereal and the vegan breakfast was missing items and no one informed us until we asked at serving. Small portion was fine for me but could imagine others being disappointed. Despite cancelling breakfast for the 2nd day, the staff would not refund the full amount paid for breakfast which was frustrating.

We stayed in one of the apartments, rather than the hotel, and it was absolutely perfect. Very spacious, clean and so well-equipped, particularly for someone like me who enjoys cooking for a family. The view from the living room/balcony was totally stunning. The playground could do with a bit of maintenance and there was a net missing from one of the tennis courts, which was a shame, as the other court was taken when we wanted to play. The bar and bistro menu was pricey. Swimming pool and leisure facilities were awesome and we spent so much time in the pool as the weather was very disappointing but what can you expect in Scotland! If you do get some sun wet heartily recommend a day trip to Luss and kayaking on Loch Lomond.

Lovely location, apartments need Renovating completely…. Taps in apartments are hot and cold individual taps…water so hot that a child could burn their hands…..decor which is dated and tired….everything needs updating and maintaining from our experience… The location is out of this world hence the 3 stars…. Wifi did not work….horrendous coverage in resort - phone signal also not good but to be expected in such a lovely location….but the wifi should be sorted properly by the hotel It’s called a resort - but the tennis courts are missing nets and the court ground is turning to rubble….the kids play area is missing a swing of some sort and is small……not much to do for them…swimming is time limited for kids Apartments are cleaned, but our apartment smelt of pets…. No electric vehicle charge points- absolute joke Overall a lovely location you won’t be disappointed but if you are a person with good standard of hygiene and cleanliness - you will be disappointed as we were.
