We booked via Hotels.com and it was a reasonable deal, but we were unaware of additional charges that were not highlighted. We were charged £10 per night for car parking, as we did not book direct with the hotel. To be fair this was in the booking small print, however we were also charged £10 to use the leisure facilities, which was NOT mentioned when booking. I hate hotels that add on random unexpected charges that you are unaware of. The hotel is perfectly fine for a short stay, the bed was comfy and the room was generally clean. However the hotel is quite tired and could do with a refresh, for example black mould on the grout in the bathroom and grimey tiles. The leisure facilities are also tired and not particularly clean. The steam room and sauna were good (but obviously not cleaned as there was a discarded cup in the same place over the 2 days). The spa pool was unfortunately cold, so it wasn’t pleasant to sit in. The swimming pool was fine, though again tired with maintenance needing done (eg pool ladder out of use). I had forgotten my flip flops and wasn’t particularly happy walking about the pool areas. We didnt eat at the hotel, but would recommend Cafe Aina just down the road for authentic Greek food and the Crossed Peels a short walk away for breakfast.

Comfortable hotel, great wee gym and warm pool. Not evident beforehand but parking is charged at £10 per 24 hours. Food ok, bit overpriced eg £8.50 for very small breadbasket. Staff pleasant and helpful

Staff were great and helpful. Good location as well. everything was great. The only issue we had was trying to use the gym and the spa facilities. I think maybe there is memberships for locals who seem to think that its their own personal gym and spa and hotel guests are not welcome. As well as the personal trainer in the gym that looked most disgusted when we tried to use the equipment. He started claiming bits of equipment so we weren't able to use them. If you need a nice comfortable stay in a good location this is the place for you. but I wouldn't bother trying to use the facilities your not welcome.

Good location. Breakfast not great. Room tired and dated. Duvet cover had holes on it. Carpet needs replaced. Bathroom desperately needs renewed. Cracked tiles. Trim round bath broken. Basin didn’t drain properly. 1 * bathroom as it had the basics. Staff though were pleasant.

We loved the proximity to places in Stirling and the proximity for day trips. The only reason I gave a 4 for cleanliness was because some shifts of housekeeping are a bit lazy and chose to refold and hang used towels rather than replace them, coffee wasn't always replenished, and sheets after a week were not changed unless we specifically asked. We stayed two weeks. I would absolutely stay here again, I just know to stay on top of housekeeping. They have a restaurant and bar at the hotel which was great, and there were others within walking distance. Nice leisure space with pool and sauna. Front desk staff very friendly and helpful.

The staff were lovely and the location of the hotel is great, however the bathroom was in a bad condition. The tiles needed re-grouted as they were black in between. Horrible staining around the bath taps, and there was also a big crack in our bathroom floor which sank if you stood anywhere near it. We were also in a room on the ground floor which was en route to reception/entrance and barely got any sleep due to people back and forth outside our door at all hours.

Stayed in a family room and had a very late check in, after the "pleasure" of the night porter checking us in to the wrong room and very rudely telling us we owe them £10 for parking, we arrived in our room. Very shoddy, unclean and in good need of a makeover. Carpets worn, cobwebs, hairs in shower, bath and beds and very dusty. I reported this to reception in the morning and was told that they will pass it on, no apology or attempt to compensate for our experience. Such a lovely building but avoid this hotel if you are looking for a a nice family break. Will never stay here again

This hotel is in a great location in Stirling for proximity to the Castle, Old Town Jail and pubs and restaurants. That’s the only good thing about it. It’s very over-priced and not good value at all. Probably the worst buffet breakfast I’ve experienced; scrambled eggs that taste like rubber, undrinkable coffee, and couldn’t even get a glass of orange juice (staff said “the supplier was out”). The ensuite in the room was grubby, and housekeeping hung our wet, dirty towels back up for us to re-use, which had been lying on the dirty floor for hours. They said they had a shortage of towels. Unbelievable! And to top It off they charge £10 pound to use their onsite pool.

Leaking ceiling first night. Initially told the hotel was full so would I be happy to just have a bucket in the room. When I refused, a room was found. New room was ok - but tired-looking, ver poor shower and could hear the next room even though they weren’t being particularly loud.

Our hotel room was not clean. Cigarette left in window, windows dirty with cobwebs. Dust on desk and bedside cabinets. Even old dirt on staircase to bedroom and again cobwebs in windows

The exterior of the property is beautiful and the staff are very helpful and polite. Unfortunately the stay was let down by old room interiors, combined with dirty appliances (blowdryer was covered in hair) and broken appliances (iron fell apart when used. Sadly wouldn’t recommend compared to other hotels of the same calibre.

The bedroom had lovely views. The bathroom was shabby, towel rail lose, old curtain fixtures showing, no toilet brush, skirting board needs repainting, ceiling above shower flacking. Situated in a good spot for railway station and castle. Spa was good. All staff were friendly.

Excellent staff, although there’s no AC, and rooms and en-suites are looking a little rough around the edges, the walls are thin and the floors are creaky, doors slam everywhere, not the clientele, just the nasty door closers. don’t let that put you off, Great location, even better staff

This hotel is in a good location, close to the Stirling Castle and various restaurants and pubs. This property needs an upgrade. Our room had broken closet doors that didn’t get properly fixed. The entire hotel needs a redo.

The building is certainly a maze, but once I got to my room it was great! Much bigger than I expected and very comfortable with a clear view of the sunrise over the city. One of the window locks was broken, and there was a pretty big step to get into the shower, but those were really my only complaints. It's really convenient for exploring Stirling and had lots of amenities I didn't have time to explore. I'd definitely stay again.

One of the window locks was broken, and there was a pretty big step to get into the shower, but those were really my only complaints. It's really convenient for exploring Stirling and had lots of amenities I didn't have time to explore. I'd definitely stay again.

Unfortunately our king size bed turned out to be 2 single beds, not identical height, pushed together. Breakfast hardly had anything left 45 minutes before the end of service. All quite disappointing. But staff were friendly and it's a beautiful, old building

The hotel is charmingly situated in an old high school and they’ve re-used the space to their benefit. It’s very picturesque. But it needs updating. The rooms need mini splits because they get so stuffy. It was lovely and cool outside but none of that could get into the room. The bed was comfortable and the room was basic.

Brilliant location, hotel itself just in need of a refresh. Public areas are great, rooms are just very tired. Clean and comfortable enough but would stay again as there are nicer hotels in the same price range in Stirling.

Excellent location, easy access to train station. Great service, friendly and helpful But the bed is soooo soft, makes your body hurt! Forget sleeping on the edge, you’ll roll over out of the bed! The pillow is bon existence as it is so soft like nothing in it. It’s two mattresses put together to make it king bed, and either side is just so bad mattress.

The check in procedure is insane. It takes so long it’s almost amusing. Stayed here a couple of years ago and that’s the big negative I remember from then, and it’s not changed. It absolutely needs to be streamlined. The hotel managers should take a note from 99% of other hotels with the check in process.

Stayed in a family room and had a very late check in, after the "pleasure" of the night porter checking us in to the wrong room and very rudely telling us we owe them £10 for parking, we arrived in our room. Very shoddy, unclean and in good need of a makeover. Carpets worn, cobwebs, hairs in shower, bath and beds and very dusty. I reported this to reception in the morning and was told that they will pass it on, no apology or attempt to compensate for our experience. Such a lovely building but avoid this hotel if you are looking for a a nice family break. Will never stay here again

Booked dinner and breakfast when we arrived but the restaurant had no note of our booking and tried to charge for dinner. Rooms need to be updated especially the bathroom. Breakfast was ok, scrambled eggs were burnt both mornings we were there. On leaving they tried to charge us for dinner again. Poor service overall.

The receptionist Eilidh was a star! She went over and above with providing amazing customer service by spending ages trying to locate a room we wanted. Well done Eilidh. She is a credit to the hotel.

Hotel was lovely. There was a wedding going on when we arrived so couldn’t enter in the front of the hotel which wasn’t great and caused a lot of guests confusion. Room was lovely and spacious and bed was one of the comfiest hotel beds i’ve encountered. The only downside of the stay was when we were checking out there was a charge on our room from dinner the night before, we had not been in the hotel for dinner and had receipts from our dinner elsewhere but the receptionist was adamant that we had to pay this with solid proof we were not in the hotel for dinner or drinks that night. After about 20 minutes of waiting she just told us to leave but my card still may be charged. That wasn’t great and was a sour end to a great stay.

I always think the measure of customer service is what happens when things go wrong. We had stayed previously here and loved it so booked to stay on our way to the airport to break our journey and not be so tired when we got there. Unfortunately the couple in the room next to us were arguing and shouting loudly, swearing and banging. We put up with it for a little while, but at about midnight and having not slept we called reception. The phone rang and rang and was not answered. My husband got up and dressed to go down to reception, which was empty. He had to search the hotel and eventually found the night porters through a locked door. Despite holding up his room key to show he was a guest they were very rude, speaking very briefly to him before relocating the door and left my husband to walk back through the drizzle to get back to reception. One of the porters came up with my husband, gave the softest ever knock on the door and when the obviously didn’t answer, left it at that. We spoke to reception in the morning but felt we were fobbed off a bit by reception. It’s very sad because the rest of our stay was great. It isn’t the fault of the hotel that the room next door were having a massive loud argument, however it is totally their fault as to how their night staff behaved. We are still waiting on an email from management. Sadly, I’m don’t think I would want to come back.

Disappointed when checking out to discover I had been charged for a meal my daughter and I never had! Receptionist apologised and hopefully the amount has now been recredited to my account. Communication prior to arrival was poor - I advised I would like to bring along my dog, but did not hear this had been agreed even despite calling to check before arrival. My call was never returned. However, on arrival, this had been arranged and all was OK.

Our first trip to Stirling and The Stirling Highland Hotel was the perfect hotel for the trip. A beautiful building with friendly helpful staff located in the centre of Stirling. So we were able to park the car for two days and walk everywhere. The only time we drove was up to the Wallace Monument.

The hotel is up the steep hill from the train station, creating beautiful view, close to the castle and quiet at night. (Suggest taking a cab the short distance if anyone isn’t looking for exercise.) Lots of stairs in this place so be prepared to carry your bags up and down a few. Mediocre breakfast. Lots of good places nearby and strongly suggest the back pathway to get to the castle or town. Not ideal for hot temps as getting good airflow is tough - as for a fan.

This hotel is a former school, and it's an architectural treat to see and stay in. Plenty of free parking on the hotel grounds, even in the center of Stirling. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Very convenient to everything in Stirling, which is a tourist destination without a tourist feel (no tweed/tartan shops, etc.--just a regular Scottish town with a modest castle on the top of the hill).

It's a great place close for shopping & transport especially if you don't drive you can walk to the castle easily from here,beds are comfortable & added bonus is the swimming pool,I had a meal in hotel but unfortunately the main course was burnt but the soup & pudding was amazing, breakfast was really good & great choice of both cooked & continental staff are really nice

Hotel was nice, however we didn’t find there was any ambiance to the dining room. It was very plain. No charm for a Scotland Hotel. Breakfast was very good. Dinner was good, however, there was a very large group in the dining room and not enough staff to service everyone. They did the best they could but it took 2 hours for pizza.

I loved the hotel itself the staff were really nice on check in. However to discover the car park was £10 per night just because we booked with hotel.com and if we had have booked through the hotel itself it was free, so any discount you receive by booking through third part bookings the hotel claws this back by charging the car park fee. Also breakfast was horrendous, tjey ran out of bread so no toast they also ran out of breakfast itself had to wait for more to be cooked, then the bacon was pale and white fat. Uuuggghhh. It was cold and miserable. Worse hotel breakfast ever. Then the residence bar was locked at 10:30 and the staff although said they didnt mind giving ua a drink it was very apparent they were not happy. They told us to look for the night porter for another if we wanted one. Who was no where to be seen. It is such a pity because its a lovely hotel and staff were grand. If this was improved on it would have been a lovely stay.

The Hotel is walking distance from Stirling Castle and has easy parking which is great. There are lots of dining options within walking distance as well. The pool was great for a dip after a day out. However the room where breakfast is served was very hot and stuffy and the breakfast was pretty ordinary. Ran out of scrambled eggs! Overall a fantastic place to stay in Stirling.

Bellissimo hotel, vicinissimo al centro e alla parte più storica di Stirling. Ottima la colazione con molta scelta sia dolce che salata, spaziose e pulite le camere e gentilissimo il personale. Altamente consigliato.

This hotel is located in a former school, so there are lots of staircases, various rooms, and something new to find around just about every corner, including a well-equipped workout room and an indoor pool. The layout is confusing at first, but you quickly learn where everything is. There is a large parking lot in the rear, for which you pay a bit extra, but you can park for free on the street in front until 7 AM, after which you have to pay the meter.

The most important thing to note is the staff, specifically Cameron, were wonderful in helping us and I would give 10 stars for the staff, if I could. The location is amazing. The old town jail is just up the road as well as Stirling Castle. You are in the city center and its beautiful. The rooms, however, need some TLC. The first room the put us in had a visibly sagging mattress. We asked if it were possible to be moved to a different room and Cameron quickly put is in a room with a better mattress. The room did need some cleaning (coffee stains on the walls and furniture) and updating, but the mattress was better. The rooms are in a beautiful, historic building, but that also means little airflow. Unfortunately, my husband had an allergic reaction to something in the room. After one night of him struggling to sleep and breathe, we approached the staff about getting our money refunded, as he was not going to be able to sleep there another night. The staff were very understanding and worked with us to get the rest of our stay refunded so that we could get another room elsewhere.
