Great hotel in the centre of Canterbury, made it easy to see the town. Good restaurant for evening meal and breakfast. Only downside is very limited parking. We used the park-and-ride and left our car there. Great if you want to be in the centre of Canterbury.

Great location and really beautiful and interesting building, nicely furnished and equipped. I liked the proper hairdryer (rather than a tiny one attached to the wall) and the comfortable bed, plus individual room air conditioning/heating. If you want a modern hotel, this won't be for you, but if you appreciate history, then you'll enjoy your stay. Breakfast is ordered from a menu, rather than a buffet. Good value when included in your room price, but rather expensive if you need to purchase separately. Lovely breakfast, other than the coffee, which I didn't enjoy. Some issues with being charged for the room twice on check in, but was easily resolved the next morning. Also no room key on check in, but again, that got sorted out and delivered to my room very quickly. Lift out of order due to flooding, but I was only on the first floor and have no mobility issues, so no real problem (although it would have been nice if the receptionist had offered to help with one of my bags when he showed me to the room). All in all, a good comfortable stay, but there are a few things they could improve.

The hotel is well placed in the centre of Canterbury, however, charging £25 per night to park the car is outrageous. We had intended having a few drinks in the bar and staying for breakfast however having been stung by the £25 charge just to park the car meant we didn't. We appreciate the opportunity to charge for parking, hadn't expected it for free however a charge of £10 pounds would have been more acceptable.

The hotel is right in the high street but in our room noise was non existent even with the internal noise of people moving about the hotel. The arrival was welcoming and the staff were extremely helpful. The room was clean and ready for us on arrival, we had a minor problem with a lamp not working but that was resolved very quickly. I will warn people that the parking is only about 10-12 cars so is very restrictive. We arrived on the Sunday afternoon and space was available but on departure mid week the car park was full so you may need to be ready to park away from the hotel. The location of the hotel is great for getting about Canterbury with many of the sites within a only a few minutes walk and shopping and food options are a plenty. We will look to try and stay here again on our next trip to Canterbury.

Good place to stay to visit Canterbury, right on the high street. Breakfast included and very nice and the staff were all friendly and helpful. Only small negative was the cost of parking at £18 a night.

We stayed 2 nights and had a hire car. The hotel had a car park which they charge £25 a night, had limited parks available and insecure. When we arrived we were told that the car park was full and we would have to park at the local car park which was an 8 minute walk. The staff couldn’t tell us what the charge would be except it would be expensive. The person who checked me in assumed I was married and to a woman. I corrected them and said my travel companion was my partner. Not a great experience with staff. Turns out the local car park was cheaper than parking at the hotel. Only €21.20 for 2 nights. Disappointing that the staff gave us wrong information. They should know better and be informative and also not make assumptions. The hotel was central and Canterbury was walkable. The room was roomy and comfortable.

The hotel itself is in a fantastic location. The breakfast is also very good. Unfortunately the bar was closed due to leaks coming through the ceiling which meant we was unable to have a drink in the hotel bar. The reason for my average review is that the room we booked wasn’t the room we were allocated. We questioned this with the receptionist, he originally seemed very confused with our room and wasn’t sure what to say. He then said he thinks it may be the room we booked but it wasn’t. He said if we wished to change rooms he could look into this later for us, however we had prior arrangements, and didn’t have time to be waiting around without a room. If this problem could be avoided going forward I would recommend staying at this hotel.

Fantastic location right on Canterbury High Street, just a short walk from the Cathedral, shopping and restaurants. We had an 'Enviable' room; spacious; large, comfortable bed; right on the front of the hotel. Bit noisy at night. Difficulty finding the car park (didn't notice the special postcode on the website) which is small and was full from early afternoon (we stayed four nights) so every day had to park a 15 minute walk from the hotel at £20 for 24 hours. Overall a good choice.

Our room was nice, but really needs a bit of a makeover, especially the bathroom, the shower screen is full of limescale and mould, the same around the bath, window-seal has paint flaked off. Mattress is very soft, I had back ache half way through the night and the pillows are also very soft. The pillows were very stained and only 3 of the pillows had cases on. The nets on the window were ripped in a few places aswell. The hotel is in a fantastic position, breakfast was lovely, car park was full but the castle street car park is a 5 min walk and so much cheaper, only cost £15 from 2pm until 11am

My partner and I checked in at 9pm and arrived to find our room stinking of old food tjat was across the room bedsheets unmade and the bathroom was very dirty. Basically the room had not been cleaned from the previous night even though we checked in at 9pm. The staff apologised and offered a complimentary cocktail and change of room. My partner is 6foot tall and could not fit in the shower and the window had gaps in the curtains that allowed sun on your face as soon as the sun rose. Tje whole experience ruined our weelend I have mever arrived at a hotel to find my room not ready amd on a state like that. I was really looking forward to staying at this hotel but I would never recomwnd it to my friends or family.

Staff was very pleasant but we were disappointed with our stay. Our room and that part of the hotel had a strong smell of damp. Also, we had cold showers both mornings as the hot water wasn't working. They told us it was fixed after the first day but we didn't have any hot water the next day either.

Made very welcome. Room not as clean as expected. Long brown hairs found on bathroom floor in several places. Lotion container on sink empty, although soap one OK. Lots of carpet fluff behind room door- maybe hoover with door closed? Otherwise an enjoyable stay in Canterbury.

Comfortable room, does the job, some stains on bed sheets though 😐 hotel itself had lovely ambience. Staff all lovely, car parking very limited but used Castle Street car park as no spaces in hotel one and ended up being cheaper 😀 and only a short walk away. Breakfast was perfect and location was great.

We stayed two nights in an Enviable room. The first night we didn’t sleep due to some kind of water sounding noises in room 234. The room was lovely otherwise and was large and had a good sized bathroom and overlooked the from of the building. The bed was large and comfy. We asked to be moved for the following night and the staff were extremely helpful and acted promptly and arranged another room which we were warned was not as nice. That was very correct. The room was small, overlooked a roof and had a very small bathroom with a shower hanging out of the wall. We had a good nights keep though. I would just say that room 113 should not be an enviable room as there was nothing enviable about it. Otherwise a good hotel with a nice bar and great location. Obvious some of the rooms are a lot better than others.

Very friendly and helpful staff, good sized room in a great location. Lovely to have all the expected amenities including bath, hairdryer, wifi and tea and coffee. Only two gripes - I struggled to get more than a lukewarm shower, and there quite a lot of noise from within the hotel.

Great location and all staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was a good size and had all the amenities you culd need, including a bath. There was a fair bit of noise from within the hotel, mostly quite a noisy air-con unit and other guests. The only thing that let it down was a shower that struggled to get above lukewarm.

Lovely room and breakfast in the morning. Staff were friendly. Room was a little hot and bed too soft for my liking, but it was clean, quiet and spacious. Close to the Catherdral and Theatre. Nice range of restaurants close by too. Would definitely book again.
Lovely room and breakfast in the morning. Staff were friendly. Room was a little hot and bed too soft for my liking, but it was clean, quiet and spacious. Close to the Catherdral and Theatre. Nice range of restaurants close by too. Would definitely book again.

Fantastic location right on Canterbury High Street, just a short walk from the Cathedral, shopping and restaurants. We had an 'Enviable' room; spacious; large, comfortable bed; right on the front of the hotel. Bit noisy at night. Difficulty finding the car park (didn't notice the special postcode on the website) which is small and was full from early afternoon (we stayed four nights) so every day had to park a 15 minute walk from the hotel at £20 for 24 hours. Overall a good choice.

Arrived slightly before check in time and unfortunately was not made welcome and felt that I was silly even asking if it was possible to check in slightly early it was only a question. But all staff after that were very polite and friendly especially the Bar staff very good at their job helpful and welcoming. Rooms very tiered blinds in need of a dust and general everything looked very tied. Real issue was shower it’s in a bath and the bath is shaped so impossible to really get under shower so you have to lean in not the best.

We checked in and went straight to our room which was set up for one person ( one large and small towel) tea for one, one bag of biscuits ete). We are a party ot two. This was rectified whilst we were out. We came back later went to the bar, and was told no lager on draft as something wrong with system and would probably be like that all weekend. The next morning we went to breakfast, ordered tea and coffee, waited 15 minutes and chased it up to be told by the waiter that he had forgotten to put the order through on the system. We then ordered breakfast with the option of poached eggs. When this arrived with others orders that had ordered after use, the eggs resembled hard boiled, the yoke was nit runny or soft. My husband said his full English tasted and looked as though it had been heated up. We then went back to our room and could not get in as both keys did not work, so back downstairs to sort that. The following day, breakfast again. Tea and coffee again turned up after chasing it, but only after receiving our food first and asking where the drinks were. We received our food after 35 minutes wait. My husband was asked if he wanted sauces, he said yes, they never came. Eggs were better though. We the went back to the room to pack and leave for checking out at 11am. Again both keys were not working. I went to reception, gave my details and had to be booked back in as apparently I had already checked out. No apology, just sorted one of the keys. Could not wait to leave!

We stayed 2 nights at the ABode hotel in Canterbury. From our initial checking in with most helpful Naleem(?) we had excellent service throughout our stay. Its central location made it possible to walk to everywhere we wanted to visit particularly the Cathedral. Thank you to all the staff.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted with a smile and a lovely welcome. We could not fault the gentleman who was hospitable and sorted out any problem that came our way. We stayed 2 nights and had a hire car. The hotel had a car park which they charge £25 a night, had limited parks available and insecure. When we arrived we were told that the car park was full and we would have to park at the local car park which was an 8 minute walk. The staff couldn’t tell us what the charge would be except it would be expensive. The person who checked me in assumed I was married and to a woman. I corrected them and said my travel companion was my partner. Not a great experience with staff. Turns out the local car park was cheaper than parking at the hotel. Only €21.20 for 2 nights. Disappointing that the staff gave us wrong information. They should know better and be informative and also not make assumptions. The hotel was central and Canterbury was walkable. The room was roomy and comfortable.

The room we had was comfortable and the Air Conditioning was very helpful as the weather was very hot. Staff were helpful in the main, though there were some issues. Breakfast service would seem to indicate problems (shortage of staff?) in the kitchen. The bacon each day was dry and hard from laying under a hot lamp for too long, the Shakshuka was edible but the eggs were hard baked and there was dry burnt residue in the bottom of the dish which would seem to indicate that, like the bacon, it had stood for too long on a hot plate/under a hot lamp. The Egg Benedict Royal was cold but serve on a hot plate, how? Whilst there seemed to always be an adequate number of staff waiting on in the breakfast room, service was slow, again I think an indicator of issues in the kitchen. Evening bar service raised another issue. Arriving in the Bar at around 10.30pm we were told that the tap beers were not available, but we could have bottled beer. Some ten minutes later it was noticed that other customers had been served with tap beers. On questioning this I was told that the reason was that at the time of our request the sprinkler nozzles had been removed for cleaning. Whilst being given this explanation it was noticed that the nozzles were not on the tap outlets. Had they somehow been replaced to serve the other customers? It is in my understanding that the cleaning of sprinkler nozzles is a full overnight soak.

Had to move rooms as the toilet didn't work, staff weren't overly fussed , moved to the second room to find black mould on the walls and around the window. Breakfast was overly expensive for poor quality and slow service.

Nothing special. Not worth the premium over a travelodge. Breakfast was so chaotic I expected to see Basil and Manuel make an appearance. There were only 3 tables to serve too!!

Hotel Abode is located in the heart of Canterbury on High Street its main thoroughfare and within walking distance of most major sights and great dining. The breakfasts at the hotel were excellent. The staff was polite and very responsive. A great stay!

I was a little worried after reading some of the bad reviews, but overall, we had a good experience. Having read the comments about noise, I specifically requested quiet rooms, preferably on a higher floor, at the rear of the hotel, or away from the gym and lift. The hotel responded very quickly and kindly assigned us rooms 216 and 217. The rooms were nice and clean, and we had no complaints. However, later in the evening, we noticed there were pubs and parking areas directly outside our windows. It was Sunday night, but there were still people drinking outside. Fortunately, we couldn’t hear much from the rooms, although we could hear some voices echoing in the bathroom. The people outside had gone before 1am, and as I usually stay up late, they didn’t disturb my sleep. However, if you are particularly sensitive to noise, I would recommend avoiding these rooms. I think the hotel should also be aware of this when allocating rooms. Continental breakfast was included in our stay. There wasn’t a huge choice, but my sons ordered the cooked breakfast for an additional £10 each, which looked good. Unfortunately, it took quite a long time to arrive, and we had to rush to our first booked visit. We allowed one hour for breakfast, but that wasn’t enough. It sounds like I’m complaining but honestly, I’m not! The location was good, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and nothing seriously wrong with our stay. Overall, we were happy with our choice of hotel for visiting Canterbury.
I was a little worried after reading some of the bad reviews, but overall, we had a good experience. Having read the comments about noise, I specifically requested quiet rooms, preferably on a higher floor, at the rear of the hotel, or away from the gym and lift. The hotel responded very quickly and kindly assigned us rooms 216 and 217. The rooms were nice and clean, and we had no complaints. However, later in the evening, we noticed there were pubs and parking areas directly outside our windows. It was Sunday night, but there were still people drinking outside. Fortunately, we couldn’t hear much from the rooms, although we could hear some voices echoing in the bathroom. The people outside had gone before 1am, and as I usually stay up late, they didn’t disturb my sleep. However, if you are particularly sensitive to noise, I would recommend avoiding these rooms. I think the hotel should also be aware of this when allocating rooms. Continental breakfast was included in our stay. There wasn’t a huge choice, but my sons ordered the cooked breakfast for an additional £10 each, which looked good. Unfortunately, it took quite a long time to arrive, and we had to rush to our first booked visit. We allowed one hour for breakfast, but that wasn’t enough. It sounds like I’m complaining but honestly, I’m not! The location was good, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and nothing seriously wrong with our stay. Overall, we were happy with our choice of hotel for visiting Canterbury.

Pros The location is fantastic. You are literally on the high street, with shops, restaurants and the cathedral etc. within a few minutes walk. The staff were very nice and helpful. The room was well stocked with tea and coffee, ironing board and safe. Breakfast was good, especially the cooked breakfast. Cons The bed was extremely soft and gave us backache, and the divan underneath was a bit grubby in places. The ceiling in the corridors upstairs was chipped and some were bowing. As it's a 4 star hotel, I would expect it to be better maintained. The shower had black mould on the shower head, and it was scalding hot, even on the lower setting. The bath was hard to get into as the screen didn't move. The bar is really nice, but the staff often left it unattended, and forgot to bring cutlery when bringing out bar food. The carpark is expensive at £25 a day.
