Coombe Abbey Hotel

Beautiful hotel in an excellent location. Nice size room. Parking is a little bit of a walk.

The hotel itself was very nice but the charges for parking were excessive, and the car park is quite a way from the hotel.

Fantastic stay! We loved every minute of it. The hotel is quirky and maintained to a very high standard and the medieval banquet was great fun! We just found the check in and check out not very efficient as the self service machines didn’t work which meant there was a long queue at reception.

We stayed in The Chamberlain room which was amazing. The hotel itself is so beautiful, never seen an interior like it. We also went to the mediaeval banquet which is fantastic. Definitely will be back

Really great and would highly recommend in every respect other than that parking isn’t free. It’s in the middle of nowhere! Of course everybody will be driving. It is very strange that it isn’t free.

Stunning location situated on the outskirts of Coventry, the entrance to the hotel is quiet dark but atmospheric and quirky with a medieval theme, we booked in and were told it was £10 to park the car for the night, we'd book a feature room, 57, with period features, the room was lovely and a perfect retreat for our 40th wedding anniversary, the main feature of the room was the four poster bed, which was very comfy, but extremely high, the room was well lit with a number of wall lights, one of which kept flicking on a off, which was a little annoying so I turned it off, the bathroom was also adored with period fittings, and an old style toilet with a pull chain cistern. The view from the room was a small garden which had a couple of sets of garden furniture, which on a nice summer day would have been lovely, On the whole the room was nice, my only grips would be if any, was minor damage to the fixtures and fittings which by the way didn't detract it's still a very nice room, and top of my moan would be poor WiFi. Apart from that it was a Stunning room. While at Coombe Abbey visit the grounds lovely walks can be had around the lake a see an abundance of birds and other wild life if you lucky like us, and for the more adventurous you can go ape or try the axe throwing attractions, you can also go on a punt ride around the moat, but we just walked so I'm not sure of the cost for the above. Breakfast was the worst bit of our stay, it wasn't hot at all. Spoilt a nice night.

The hotel needed a good clean.

Dirty and old and run down. Rooms are in a separate building out the back reached through service exit where rubbish is left out in a courtyard.cups in room dirty. Bathroom dirty. Heating system doesn't work and clearly hasn't for some time.Carpet tired and threadbare in main hotel areas. Breakfast so expensive for what it is. Decor is tacky and not matching the grandeur of the abbey building and grounds. Cobwebs everywhere. Every wall has scuff marks and paint flaking off.

This is a really beautiful place to stay, the room was lovely and very comfy. It was nice to stay somewhere a bit different and felt very special. On the way to our room the corridor/stair well did have a few cobwebs with dead flies in, but I did laugh as it was in theme with it being an old quirky place! It didn’t put me off staying, and the room and bathroom were both very clean. The breakfast was amazing, though the staff do clear up quick, and take your cutlery! Therefore if you want seconds you have to ask for another set, I think this should be either put out for people to get on the side, or given when the old set are taken away. We will definitely be back again.

I get it, its a really old property but that has nothing to do with cleanliness. We had to move rooms on our 2nd night due to a flood through the ceiling from the room above, not a drip a full on shower, subsequently we had to move rooom at 10pm with a jovial duty manager who was obviously embarrassed, I asked about an additional night as we were visiting friends but he said it was fully booked, when we checked there was plenty of rooms available.... very strange!! I had just came off 3 days of chemotherapy so moving rooms wasn't ideal as we were settled in bed for the evening. Overall a beautiful building but very poorly maintained / cleaned so we wouldn't rush back. Kind regards Darren Giles

My husband and I stayed for one night, as I've always wanted to stay here, and it was in a convenient location to an event we needed to attend the following morning. I love how this hotel gives castle vibes. Beautiful and unique one-of-a-kind artwork, artifacts, and decor all over the place. It's fun just to spend a little time walking around the grounds, the lobby, and the outside of the buildings, looking at All of its grandeur. The room itself had very old fashioned vibes. This was both good and not so good. Nice in the sense that you feel you're being transported back in time to a hundred years ago... But I think unfortunately some of the cloth wallpaper and pictures of the wall had seen better days. It was a very romantic room nonetheless. They bathroom did need a lock of miuld proof paint though. The hallways all needed new carpets. Both the stairs and outside the rooms. Probably good if they got something which doesn't show stains easily, but still fits the decor. The shining jewel was the restaurant and bar. Really nice drinks selection, both with and without alcohol. The bar and restaurant food menu selections were really amazing, and all of the food we are was superb! Service was excellent too. Dining room was beautiful both day and night! The outside grounds are truly unique and very enjoyable. Although we unfortunately arrived a bit too late to take everything in on this trip, one can always visit another day. All in all great experience. Just need TLC.

Cobwebs aplenty.mould above door in bathroom ..dust behind doors and on higher up surfaces. Curtains hanging from rails .bed light bulb gone / not working, and desk socket dodgey/ lose. Room was quite dark despite 2 large winfows . Room 138

Lovely room, very comfortable, clean and quiet.

Fantastic looking hotel and the grounds absolutely stunning. Paid extra for a feature double and didn't feel we got much extra. Room was large but so stuffy and hot with only small windows and an ineffective fan. The room itself was tired and in need of updating Breakfast was served in a lovely restaurant but disappointed that plates weren't hot and food generally was a bit average for such a stunning hotel. We will return but will go for standard double rooms and go out for breakfast

Magnificent building. Very dated room with creaky floor and a sort of haunted house chic. Decor needs a rethink; bed very comfortable.

Hi, the room was so hot. but it was a typical hot day , fans were noisy and not been cleaned in a while

The staff, grounds & park were nice but our room was very small, quite dark and run down. We were expecting a much nicer room for the cost. Also, there were 2 weddings going on while we were there so we were awakened early on Saturday as the drumming for the 1st wedding started loud and went on continually into the night. Had we known there'd be so much noise & activity, and that our room would be as it was, we would've chosen to stay elsewhere.

I had a very nice stay and will stay here again when visiting family locally. The first two nights I had a room close to the event space and had a good amount of noise, I expect it wouldn’t have bothered me much but there was a heat wave and I needed the windows open, they changed my rooms once I got around to mentioning it.

The place is beautiful. The "Luxury Double Room" however was pretty run down. Peeling wallpaper, no tea or coffee, no mini fridge, or microwave. Not allowed to order food to the hotel, so you must rely on the room service which was unrelyable. If i knew any of this before going, i would have stayed at a different hotel. The place was a castle and it was beautiful. But thats all it has to offer.

Very poor staff service

Lovely hotel .Reception check in pathetic,only one person for many guests waiting to check in.One person in the bar on one of the hottest days of the year.Took forever to get served and gave up in the end.

The service from the team was outstanding. A beautiful venue, with lots of history but the service really stands out and made my stay really enjoyable.

Lovely hotel with a lot of character & stunning original features. Without exception, all the staff were helpful & friendly. Our room was very comfortable & breakfast was excellent. We had time for a walk around the beautiful grounds in Coombe Abbey Park before checking out. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay & would definitely recommend!

Stayed here many times and it never fails to impress. Every member of staff is friendly and professional. Great food and wine.

After having afternoon tea on the sat , paid for my daughter and husband to stay the night ( which they enjoyed ) then to have privet dinning on the Sunday for a family of 11 to celebrate my daughter 40th birthday ) the service from booking the venue to being at the privet dinning SERVICE was disgusting ,,,,, the food was amazing but as I said service was disgusting ,,, no greeting from any one , we had to find the room ourselves , waiters never even spoke , we had no condiments on the table ( had to wait another 15 min for them to arrive by this time a few of the guests had eaten ,, never once got asked if every think was ok ,,, then the supervised argued with us when I said that tea and coffee was included ( which he said wasn’t ) I showed him my email ( which included the tea/ coffee ) he went and came back and said , we will give it to you free !!!! Even though I showed him the email ,,, my poor daughter who’s surprise 40th it was I felt upset ,,,, a lot of money I paid in that weekend ,,, needs to be addressed

What a lovely place to stay. The grounds are beautiful. We did Dinner in the garden room make reservations it fill up fast. The afternoon tea look great as well. Parking you do have to pay for. At the time it was 10 a day. This did bother me because the whole time we been driving the UK it was paid parking any where you go.Plus I’m use to the state charging 30 or more for some place you stay, just saying. Staff was great as well. I would come back and stay again if in the area. Thanks

This hotel ended up being a favorite. There is a large park nearby that has a bunch of walking trails.

Wonderful historic venue with beautiful architecture and gardens. I recommend purchasing the book detailing the history of the Abbey.

Beautiful building with many carefully repurposed rooms filled with history. The only things we found less that wonderful were the parking (which was £8 for the night) and the sheer volume of guests staying there, which distracted from the 1st class stay a little. We thought the food was great and the room comfortable and full of character. We would recommend the hotel to friends and would stay again.

Coombe Abbey Afternoon Tea No imagination 4 Scones for one person + pot of tea! Expensive for Tea with sandwiches etc at £35 per person

There was good and bad. The hotel is beautiful and the food was very good. In the room the TV didn’t work and the shower sprayed out in all directions. We went to the bar for a drink but couldn’t find anywhere to sit as so much was going on at once. Breakfast service wasn’t great as had to wait a while for the breakfast items to be replenished and asked for some butter for my toast which never arrived. Once I’d got my breakfast it was nice with lots of variety

Quirky hotel, described as "no ordinary hotel" and I think for once the marketing hype is well founded. A beautiful setting, quirky rooms, good food.

Not happy as we had to pay for parking during our stay , Cosy Double bed room is definitely not a double bed, dinner was cold sent back three times they only make up beds or change linen every three days.French waiter was very rude. Overall not what we expected.

Bedroom cold heating not working, had to supply us with a fan heater, heard other guests had same issue. Breakfast was self serve even for tea and coffee, cramp conditions for tea and coffee from a machine and at same cramp position for hot breakfast, this needs reorganising, as area not big enough for the amount of guests they are trying to cater for.

The hotel and location was excellent… the only down side was the breakfast organisation… the food quality was good, but the foood area was so small that only 1 or 2 persons at a time could get food, and you had to queue for coffee machine. Serving tea &coffer at the table would make the table turn around much quicker.

Fantastic building and grounds. Very helpful staff. Food was excellent. I have stayed in hundreds of hotels with work and the breakfast quality here was exceptional. I will certainly use this hotel again on my trips to the midlands.

We dined in the restaurant and food quality, staff attitude and service were excellent. Monkfish was outstanding, I’ve certainly dined in numerous hotels & restaurants, paid more and been disappointed. Recommend a stay and dining experience here. Lovely grounds to walk in and a historic building to enjoy. Actually enjoyed the fact there was limited mobile signal once in the hotel, due to the thick stone walls, made it more relaxing

As you approach the hotel up the long drive it looks like you are going to have the most wonderful stay. Then you get to the car park which you realise will require you to pay! Not that this is immediately apparent on the booking page. It’s then a little walk to the dark reception which is very atmospheric and in keeping with the exterior. So far so good. The room however was probably last updated in the 1980s complete with an aged looking fluted fabric spare loo roll holder!! There was no heating apart from an oil fired plug in radiator… it was really chilly so much so I slept in my socks and cardigan! Also there was only 1 accessible plug so this had to be used for the kettle and then phone charger and it was at the other end of the room from the bed. Not convenient. I had room service dinner which arrived in good time and was warm so no complaints about that. Breakfast was self service which was adequate but there was only 1 machine for both coffee and hot water for the tea bags so there were quite long queues to use that. The cooked breakfast items were squashed into a small area adjacent to the coffee/ water machine which meant that the flow of users was not great. The pastry I had was undercooked and as such inedible. Also not seen tinned mandarin orange segments for some time either! The conservatory sitting area was however a lovely space. There is so much potential here but currently it’s in need of a rethink about the breakfast service and upgraded rooms
