Fine. Only problem was the bar ran out of gas so there was no beer available for 2 days! I only had the chance of a beer on the first night.

Great as usual but lift out of action for whole stay in heatwave conditions wasn't great for the third floor . Staff fabulous as ever. Room great and fans supplied to help with heat issues. The best staff always helpful and informed

Excellent value hotel, friendly staff and good sized rooms. Pool , sauna and steam room is nice and the location excellent. Bear in mind the entrance is hidden away through the car park. Pillows were hard, which was a shame as overall the experience was excellent otherwise.

Just stayed for one night and was gutted to miss the pool - it closes at 7:30pm so beware when booking! But managed to go early before I left in the morning. Good sauna and spa all abit tired in looking but still enjoyable experience and definitely recommend to others

The leisure centre was great. The swimming pool was clean, although the water could have been just slightly cooler. Happy hour in the bar Sunday to Thursday was a pleasantry, with £3 beers. The hotel is in a great location and close to lots of good value restaurants. Hotel staff were very helpful.

Parking was a problem. If you're trying to check in around 4/5pm then you will not be able to park as the gym membership people flood the car park. The staff were lovely, so no complaints. Great location if you're running the great north run although they will hike the prices. I had the pizza in the evening, I would not recommend. It tasted like a frozen pizza. A suggestion would be, if you're hiking your prices for the great north run at least provide a different menu with a more quality higher energy cleaner based menu.

Hotel check-in was straight forward. Informed by Management that rooms will not be serviced during our two night stay and the receptionist could give no reason for this. However, towels etc. could be changed by informing reception. Bedrooms and linen clean but Hotel looking tired.

The hotel is quite tired and being run a a shoe string. It is under staffed, rooms are not serviced except by request on longer stays. Threadbare carpets and always something broken in room. This location is beautiful but hotel needs investment

The staff were all very pleasant. The property could use some renovations. It was just underwhelming. I was most disturbed when I found that the next guest's linens were on the floor outside my room, waiting for me to checkout. Now I know that I slept on sheets, and used towels, from off the hallway floor. That puts a lump in my throat. I would not recommend this property, and will not stay here again.

Room had no working fridge, no power points near bed, couch in room was dirty, several other maintenance related issues found in room. Good location for dining options, shame room wasn't quite up to expectations, certainly not "grand".

Check in staff really nice, pool staff evening and morning different people and both more like door bouncers than customer service providers. If they don't want kids in the pool being kids don't let kids in at all, but don't spend the time shouting and making issues for them. Rooms in the new part of the hotel were the thinest walls of any hotel ever stayed in. Loud music being played on 1 side from 530am and on the other what can only have been the other half of the party. Add the circus in town and the bus stop under the window made for 2 hours sleep all night, for an 8 year old and their dad. Bed sheet also had rip in it exposing the mattress so lay on top. Bad time had all round. Hotel main areas nice though and plenty of parking

Great location overlooking the beach. Close walk to a few restaurants and bars. Retro look is appealing but some furniture is very worn. Gym is very old and worn, pool looked great but was packed, proved very popular in the heat. No AC in the room, just fan, proved a challenge to sleep. Restaurant had deed t meal options.

Although we have had some issue at checkin, the staff responded properly and fixed all our issues, even granting a superb room for the last day. Extensive breakfast with loads of options. Good food at dinnertime. A recommended place to stay.

Overall, a good hotel at an acceptable price. Its position in the heart of the Seaburn and Roker seafront, with many restaurants and bars, lovely beaches plus easy access to Sunderland city centre makes it a desirable base.

Hotel is located on the sea front which is where we wanted to be. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Room was lovely, clean and comfortable although it took us a while to find the extra pillows. Breakfast was a disappointing because all the cooked elements were not available together. One day there was everything apart from fried eggs, next day everything apart from black pudding. I think they may have been short staffed due to the bank holiday.

Hotel stay was good value for money, but the breakfast for £13 each was the worst I've ever had. The hot food was barely lukewarm not visually appealing at all. The tomatoe tasted funny. Lastly swimming in greasy oil. All I attempted was 2 fried eggs 2 hash browns and a tomatoe....had to leave it. Coffee resembled dishwater.

Lastly swimming in greasy oil. All I attempted was 2 fried eggs 2 hash browns and a tomatoe....had to leave it. Coffee resembled dishwater.

Fine. Only problem was the bar ran out of gas so there was no beer available for 2 days! I only had the chance of a beer on the first night.

Good size sea view room with separate seating area, clean and breakfast lovely with plenty of variety and caters for vegan/gluten. Pool and facilities clean and water warm. Would definitely revisit

We had a nice, spacious room and we enjoyed our meal in the restaurant. Staff were all pleasant and helpful and the pool was lovely.

Lovely stay, shame the restaurant was closed so much and we weren’t aware until we had already set off on our 4 hour journey. The bar ran out of things like Guinness but has a fab happy hour. Our room was lovely and clean

Hotel is a bit dated, but the bed was comfy. Missing some room basics like a mini fridge and water. Breakfast could be better, although evening food was very good. Best bar of the places we went to during the 4 day stay. Good

The staff on the reception are great. The breakfast is truly the worst that i have ever had. I skipped it on the second day. It looked and tasted like it was made the day before and then left to warm up again on the buffet plates. It is discusting. The hotel itself has good parking availability and is in a good location. Just get your breakfast somewhere else

The hotel was better than expected. With some work it could be very nice. Lots of potential. Breakfast was ok. Pool is smaller than the photo makes it look. Check out was too early. Check in was too late. If you want breakfast, pay at reception. It’s cheaper than on here. I would stay again. The only reason I did not stay another night was because the tariff was £20 per room more. Really good sized tv,s in all rooms

Room was clean and tidy. Bed sheets were clean and neat. Towels were clean though one smelled a bit musty. Corridors inspection could be improved as someone had left a plate of chips outside their room door overnight.

I recently stayed at the Grand Hotel Sunderland for the first time, and while the hotel itself has a lot going for it, one member of staff completely ruined what should have been a lovely visit. The hotel rooms are genuinely impressive – spacious, clean, comfortable and well-presented. The facilities are also great, especially the pool area, which is one of the reasons we booked. Everything looked modern and well-kept, and on the surface it felt like a place you’d happily return to. Unfortunately, the staff were the complete opposite of the warm, welcoming atmosphere the hotel tries to present. In particular, the lady on shift at the pool on 1 August was shockingly rude from the moment we arrived. Every time I glanced over, she was staring at us with a disgusted look, like we were a problem just for being there. It made the whole experience uncomfortable when we were simply trying to enjoy the facilities we had paid for. When we were leaving, I genuinely didn’t know which way we were supposed to exit, so I went the same way I had gone into the changing rooms as I entered. She said something, but I didn’t hear her, so I politely asked “What?” She then turned around, pointed aggressively, and snapped “You have to go that way” with the most disgusting attitude. There was absolutely no need for her to shout or behave like that, especially when it was my first time staying and I had no idea where I was meant to go. Her behaviour was rude and unprofessional
