It’s a beautiful building but it’s really old. It’s like frozen in time. The elevator did not work which is a problem with taking your luggage to your room. The electric installations are inefficient. The bathroom was very small. The TV sistem is really slow. It’s a good place but has a lot of things to improve.

Freundliches Personal. Der Aufzug funktioniert nicht, aber unser Gepäck wurde ins Zimmer gebracht. Gutes und günstiges Frühstück. Auf die dress Code Regeln muss man sich einlassen, ist aber in Ordnung. Für Notfälle würde es ein Leihsakko und Schuhe geben. Die Lage ist perfekt

This is a super location for exploring Victoria. The room was spacious and had a lovely bathroom. The hotel is not really a hotel as we would know it. No air con. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room. This is step access ONLY. Many stairs and no working elevator. The poor staff had to call for anyone to help with luggage. They also operate a before 11.00pm curfew which meant we had to make sure we returned before 11.00pm as we did not have a Canadian phone to call for access. We did enjoy our time here but this is a hotel which needs to compete with others around offering the 4* service one would expect for the price.
This is a super location for exploring Victoria. The room was spacious and had a lovely bathroom. The hotel is not really a hotel as we would know it. No air con. Amazing location, close to everything and walkable. Lots of old world charm and very nice staff. Don't book this place if you don't want to adhere to their dress code -- they make it very clear, and it's part of the charm. The breakfasts and dinner we had at the restaurant were even better than expected. Some of the rooms have been redone, and so have not, so there is a variety of quality there. If you can splurge for the harbor view, it's lovely. May want to ask if the room you'll be assigned has been remodeled. There aren't enough plugs for modern electronics near the bedside, which I guess isn't surprising, but also a little frustrating in 2025. Also, the elevator is still out; we knew it was being remodeled in June, but thought the work was sheduled to be complete by end of June. It was still going on in the first week of July, just FYI.

The library and reading room were fantastic, and the great place to relax. It would have been nice if they told us the elevator was out of order, especially being on the third floor. Also the dress code was a bit much and they didn't tell us about it until we checked in.

Great location, charming old world true club atmosphere. Unfortunately there is only one elevator that has been out of service for quite awhile and not noted at time of reservation and no follow up notification sent to me. My current mobility issue requires use of a walker. Had to leave the walker at the lobby and use the stairs to get to the room. Check to see if they have the elevator functioning before making a booking.

What did we like: 1) Located right in the Victoria downtown. If you arrive by Ferry, you can walk to the hotel. 2) Royal BC Museum, Legislative assembly of British Columbia, Fisherman's Wharf, Victoria Pier, Miniature World, Empress Hotel National Historic Site of Canada, Government Street and Victoria Bug Zoo are all walkable from the hotel. 3) The check-in time was 4 pm. We arrived at 10:15 am. We went to the hotel to ask them to hold our luggage. But they told us the room is ready and we can check-in if we want. So, we got our room keys at 10:15 am itself. 4) The lady at the reception was super nice and very helpful. Customer service was quite amazing. What didn't we like: 1) We paid $20 (Canadian dollars) per day for parking, but we got a parking spot in a public garage that is a few blocks away. The problem is, it is a gated parking lot and there is no attendant on the weekends. The hotel has only two key cards to go in or out of the garage that is a few blocks away. So, every time you have to take your car out or to park it during weekends, you have to go to the hotel and get the keycard from the reception and then bring it back immediately (because they have only 2 access cards). 2) There is no Microwave in the hotel room. 3) If you do not wear formal shoes and buttoned up shirts with a collar, you cannot use their on-premise restaurant or reading area. But they do have some shoes and shirts that you can borrow if you want to use these facilities.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights and we really loved this hotel. The location was perfect and it was easy to walk anywhere in the city. Our room was very comfortable and clean. It was very warm the day we were in Victoria and our room got a little bit warm overnight, but we were OK with the fan provided. The only downside was we needed to have the windows open for cool air and so in the morning we were woken by the sun and the seagulls. The seagulls are very loud in the city. We loved exploring the hotel, which is so beautiful. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful with any questions we had about the city. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone, who is staying in Victoria!

I think this is Private members only club. Property is not easy to find for the first timer. (I had to drive around few times to figure out the entrance of the building .) Parking is about 2 blocks away. Currently going under Elevator Renovation- No Elevator Option. Property has a lot of history behind. Private clubs. Room is old and windows are old, but very clean. Location is wonderful. If you like sort of old style building, this is it. if you are looking for modern stuff, this property is not it. If you want to dine here, you have to follow dress code (Check with them before you book). Although, there are a lot of food options around the property. Parking can be bit hassle since you will have to grab a Parking key card to park at the underground structure about 2 blocks away and return the parking key card back to the front desk. Wonderful boutique hotel. Old world charm with new world amenities within or nearby. Take note of the stairs in the picture as the entrance is not clearly marked. The hotel staff were all amazing. I enjoyed riding in the oldest elevator in Victoria. Room/bed were clean and comfortable and the location is perfect. I would definitely stay again.

No Air conditioner, mildew in bath, no outlets to charge phones, bed too hard, elevator floor uneven which made it difficult to roll carts in or out of elevator. Need screens on windows. Parking an issue, got ticket across the street when I was only 4 mins late. Do not recommend others to stay there. Too many rules to stay there.

Great liocation, but the room did not match the description or photos and was in need of a refresh. The common areas were nice, but the smell of fish from the resturant could be smelled throughout the common areas and first floor. Friendly staff, nice reading room.

You need to know that you have to park your car about 3 blocks away. And don't forget to get a fob to get your car out if it's a weekend! That is a joke. Great location. Can walk around and see the busy area. No air conditioning so if you leave windows open for breeze it's really noisy.

This hotel was so great. The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful. The location was amazing along with the character with such an old hotel! Having the original elevator with metal grates and wooden door was so fun! We really enjoyed our stay!

The front desk staff were amazing. The property is so quaint and the original artwork in common areas was impressive. I would recommend mentioning to guests that there is a dress code for the dining room. I was in town for a running race and had not brought anything other than jeans, a nice sweater and my Blundstones.

The library and reading room were fantastic, and the great place to relax. It would have been nice if they told us the elevator was out of order, especially being on the third floor. Also the dress code was a bit much and they didn't tell us about it until we checked in.

Great location, charming old world true club atmosphere. Unfortunately there is only one elevator that has been out of service for quite awhile and not noted at time of reservation and no follow up notification sent to me. My current mobility issue requires use of a walker. Had to leave the walker at the lobby and use the stairs to get to the room. Check to see if they have the elevator functioning before making a booking.

Great location, Staff were courteous, room is a throwback to 1960 elegance. Comfortable and food is great! Good value for the cost. You have to be able to manhandle your luggage up full flight of outside stairs in the rain... and the strict rules can be a bit much!

Wonderful boutique hotel. Old world charm with new world amenities within or nearby. Take note of the stairs in the picture as the entrance is not clearly marked. The hotel staff were all amazing. I enjoyed riding in the oldest elevator in Victoria. Room/bed were clean and comfortable and the location is perfect. I would definitely stay again.

What did we like: 1) Located right in the Victoria downtown. If you arrive by Ferry, you can walk to the hotel. 2) Royal BC Museum, Legislative assembly of British Columbia, Fisherman's Wharf, Victoria Pier, Miniature World, Empress Hotel National Historic Site of Canada, Government Street and Victoria Bug Zoo are all walkable from the hotel. 3) The check-in time was 4 pm. We arrived at 10:15 am. We went to the hotel to ask them to hold our luggage. But they told us the room is ready and we can check-in if we want. So, we got our room keys at 10:15 am itself. 4) The lady at the reception was super nice and very helpful. Customer service was quite amazing. What didn't we like: 1) We paid $20 (Canadian dollars) per day for parking, but we got a parking spot in a public garage that is a few blocks away. The problem is, it is a gated parking lot and there is no attendant on the weekends. The hotel has only two key cards to go in or out of the garage that is a few blocks away. So, every time you have to take your car out or to park it during weekends, you have to go to the hotel and get the keycard from the reception and then bring it back immediately (because they have only 2 access cards). 2) There is no Microwave in the hotel room. 3) If you do not wear formal shoes and buttoned up shirts with a collar, you cannot use their on-premise restaurant or reading area. But they do have some shoes and shirts that you can borrow if you want to use these facilities.

The Union Club still exudes the atmosphere of a gentleman's club of the English Empire with its beautiful and overwhelming wood finishes, room layouts, quiet atmosphere, and service. You'll see dedications to the heroes of WWI and portraits of the king and Winston Churchill. It also has a snooker room that appeared to be in use most of the time. The food service and quality is good and our suite was very comfortable and upgraded. Wifi worked throughout the club. Showers had hot water and good pressure. With any club, there are rules and they are strict about their dress code and security. Most of all, its location is primo.

Great liocation, but the room did not match the description or photos and was in need of a refresh. The common areas were nice, but the smell of fish from the resturant could be smelled throughout the common areas and first floor. Friendly staff, nice reading room.

The Union Club is a beautiful old building and it’s great to be able to stay there. Meals were excellent and very well priced as were the drinks. Service was also very friendly. Negative aspects are lack of air conditioning meaning leaving windows open in hot weather and getting street noise, having to get luggage up a floor of steps to the main entrance and having to be very conscious of house rules.

The building is really beautiful and classic. The room was very clean and the bed was VERY comfortable. Probably the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever stayed in. The font desk people were helpful and friendly. I loved looking at all the artwork in all the hallways. Close to the bay, the parliament building, tons of shopping and food. I would stay here again if we ever came back to Victoria.
