Unusual property, perfect location next to Marwell zoo. Staff very attentive & helpful, especially the receptionist who checked us in. Swimming pool area a little dated, with dangerously slippery floor. Used restaurant for evening meal, food overpriced for what we had, also hot offerings at breakfast were cold

The hotel has been run down and is unkempt compared to 5 years ago. Pool didn't look like it had been cleaned in years with grime all around it. TV remote didn't work and room was less than average would have been better booking a Premier Inn

The sauna was great. Breakfast was ok, but one morning it was 20 minutes late which could be problematic if you count on it to be on time. Staff is really lovely and helpful. I love this hotel

Changed room on arrival as the shower was leaking and the sewage bloked , second room the shower had no power , the maid did not cleaned our room as we haven\'t left to note outside the door to instruct for cleaning 😵, anywhere else we\'ve stayed the maid came to clean the room without us leaving the sign " COME CLEAN THE ROOM". The hotel itself it\'s very dated, very old stained carpets , old brown furniture around, the sauna wasn\'t functioning properly, the glass on the door was detached from the frame , so cold air was coming in. Breakfast was a completely disaster, the staff was running around like headless chickens, people queueing to get inside, tables full of food , cutlery and left overs from previous dinners . The food was not enough, empy food containers, guests waiting on another queue, no clean cutlery available, we\'ve used the fork to stir our coffee. A completely DISASTER!

I made reception aware on checking into my room that the radiator pipes were leaking and the radiator was on full blasting out heat when the outside temperature was 24c the room was more like 32c reception told me they would have it fixed the following morning but this did not happen spent 2 very uncomfortable nights not able to sleep due to the excessive temprature of the room unable to open windows because of insects and bugs given the hotels location there was no room service and the bar closed at 10.30 both nights bar food was only available if ordered by 8.30 there was no water in the room or mini fridge the only water available was from the bathroom and i was not sure if safe to drink breakfast was a very poor standard given the cost of 16.50 for a english offerings were served up in food bins with what appeared to be small gas canisters underneath in an attempt to keep the food warm nothing was particularly fresh and was of mass catering standard genrally the hotel was tatty and in need of some form of renovation cleanliness was an issue genrally throughout if rated on a star basis i wiuld rate it 2 although the price tarrifs are more like 4 whith nearby hotes with 4 stars charging in some 8nstances less would not stay again and impossible to recomend

Had a lovely day out at the nearby zoo and this hotel was very convenient to be able to stay close by and enjoy a mini break. The staff and service was brilliant and really friendly. The hotel is a little tired in places but the room was clean, tidy and comfortable. Disappointed that the swimming pool was closed during our stay but it didn't affect our overall experience. Food in the restaurant was lovely and breakfast was also really good with lots to choose from. Would recommend

It was OK. But the corridors to the rooms were freezing. There was a tray of food discarded outside one of the rooms for a long time. The paint work on the doors are chipped. Some mould around bath. Advertised to have a swimming pool and gym. The environment around the pool was cold and uninviting. The gym is just a small room with 2 treadmills close to one another. Very poor gym. Room was comfortable and breakfast was good except the dining area was a bit cold.

Lovely location and the room was quiet apart from the plumbing. We stayed for 1 night, the room was adequate although bathroom had a bad smell of drains with no extractor fan. The bed was lumpy on one side. The swimming pool is tired looking but we enjoyed our swim. Friendly staff. We would stay here again. Thank you.

Gym & Pool was what attracted us to this night away, but it fell well short. The gym was out of order & when we looked in the gym 😞 there was 2 treadmills in a cupboard. This is not a gym! On the plus side the pool was nice and warm. Changing rooms had no showers. The rooms & hotel were a bit dated. Our room had a really small bathroom where you had to try & close the door to get to the sink and there was black mould around the bath. The show head kept falling down & on the plus side the bed was comfy. The breakfast was very poor. The bacon was like leather, beans like mushy beans where they were over cooked and a poor standard of sausage.

Good welcome and quick check-in. Great staff, nice to have a decent bar and quality restaurant with a restaurant and a bar menu. Good breakfast. I’d been wanting to visit for a while and was very happy. Very good parking, not height restricted.

Convenient for Marwell Zoo and Resort but although bedroom and bed were large and comfortable there was a lack of thorough cleaning and the bed sheet was stained, We had to request a replacement, which was dealt with promptly. Hospitality tray had obviously not been moved to clean surrounding surface as stains and crumbs all around it. Bathroom door and floor need a thorough scrub.

The room was dirty, they never came to service the rooms, even after I reminded them that no one has come and we needed towels and there wasn’t any shampoo/ soap . The Internet was horrible. Rusty balconies, the whole place needs to be updated. Dirty utensils for tea/ coffee and dirty stained blankets. I complained and was told by the manager if I come again maybe I will get a discount at that time. Obviously I won’t be back.

We really wanted to like this property but it really needs care and attention. I appreciate the property is old but it was looking very tired and worn out. The carpets in the communal areas looked tired as did the decor. Unfortunately are room was not as clean as one would expect, particularly for the price paid. Hair on the floor in the bathroom and the carpet could have done with a deep clean. The mattress on the bed was old too. The fried eggs in the breakfast buffet were also cold. At check out we pointed out the issues with the room and that in general the property could do with some love. They heard our concerns but I felt our feedback wasn't going to go anywhere or help to make change. Perhaps the staff are resigned to how the property is which is a shame as it wouldn't take much to improve things a lot.

The hotel it self is lovely but the poor condition of my room was terrible. It hadn’t been cleaned not hoovered or dusted their was stains on the walls the room was in very poor condition. The bathroom was terrible no plug for the bath shower head was covered in lime scale none of the taps had been wiped. It’s was very disappointing as this was ment to be a special trip as it was our wedding anniversary and had an animal experience book in the zoo. To be honest to leave a nice clean home and pay for a room that was in that state was shocking. If the management was to spend some money in sorting out them poor standard they have let in fall into the hotel would be amazing. Seems like money could be more important than the standard of the hotel. The big question is why have management left it to get in this state ?

Great location for visiting Marwell Zoo. However, the hotel desperately needs a refurb. The room was dirty and needed updating - the bathroom countertop was rotten and falling apart, the toilet bowl was stained, the radiator was rusty, walls marked, etc, etc. Quite dressing really. It was definitely overpriced for the quality of accommodation provided. The breakfast was also very basic and overpriced for what was provided, especially £10 for a toddler who just ate some weetabix. The hotel has so much potential. Please please do a total update.

It was ok for a night stop off, but the bathroom was not very clean, dirt and timescale around the taps bath wasn't cleaned properly, hotel was a little bit shabby, all the glass windows needed a good clean. Dirt, and cobwebs inside and out. Chairs in the dinning hall were really dirty, not the right kind of chair to have with children. All bedding and towels very clean. Staff very helpful.

Whilst well placed in its woodland position the fa bric of the building is in need of refurbishment . Our room was extremely tired looking as was the bathroom. The public areas too could do with a little brightening. My main observation was that housekeeping standards were very poor. We found our bed very poorly made including sequins from previous use on the duvet cover. Our bedroom floor was not hoovered at any time during our 4 night stay. Reception staff and restaurant staffvery good and deserve a better work environment. Price was fair for a three star but some areas sadly lacking for that rating

It was second time staying here and I think it is time some money was spent on the place. They seem understaffed as it took an age to get checked in. My room was ok but the mattress was like concrete and the pillows quite the opposite leading to a sore neck in the morning. I took it upon myself to clean the fan they had in the room which was a good thing as it was filthy and I can only imagine was sort of dust would have been thrust my way if I had not cleaned it. Evening dining was ok but the value for money left a lot to be desired with lackluster garlic bread, quite a greasy cheeseburger and a bland tarte only saved by the accompanying sorbet. Breakfast was a better experience to get the day off to a good start. The hotel looks quite tired with freezing corridors between the lobby and rooms.

Negatives: Stayed in a very hot day in July. There was no AC in the room or anywhere else in the hotel, only a very weak fan. Was sweating like a pig the whole stay. Unable to connect to the hotel Wi-Fi. Not able to call reception, no phones in the room. Positives: Friendly staff, interesting building layout and spacious room.

They were strict on check in being 3pm yet when I went to the desk at 3pm they were having issues.It is good they have a restaurant on property and the food is good.The wifi is absolute garbageeeeeeeee in the room.The wifi seems to only work well in the lobby area.The only proper customer service I experienced was at the restaurant.

Uncomfortable bed with dip when lying down. Bar closed and no food available when checked in just before 11pm. Bathroom in need of modernisation, shower over the bath had poor water pressure, shower curtain didn’t fully reach the bath. Hot room when arrived and no aircon, unable to leave the room patio door open as this leads to a shared balcony with no room security. Basic breakfast on offer, quality of the food was cheap but plentiful, coffee on offer was instant and dispensed from a pump flask!

Food items missing from breakfast buffet on first morning.On our last morning (today),we were instructed to sit in a place we didn’t want to,but the position we wished to be seated wasn’t occupied or shown to be reserved.We’d sat in that area the previous 2 mornings without a problem Asked to have tea & milk replenished in our room ,but still hadn’t been done on our return in the evening.I complained about state of bed mattress,It was damaged & sunken,I had to put a pillow over the depression.Still not comfy & it affected my sleep.Told that all the mattresses were in the process of being replaced but shouldn’t really get to that stage of affecting guests comfort.

Check in asked questions about taxi reception had no idea the girl very polite but poorly informed about general info. Breakfast was cold and poor as food kept running out as no one checking it so people had to keep asking them to refill, they ran out of fruit an white bread and still had another hour breakfast service to go Came back in evening and asked for cocktail but could not as no ice for drinks as machine broke then a satalight went down so problem with tvs. The room was really lovely but out side of balcony doors it was grating running along all the rooms which you could stand on as fire exit aswell but did not feel safe as anyone could walk to your room.

staff were helpful and friendly. food was better than expected from the previous reviews. rooms were warm and comfortable and clean. not hotel fault but a rowdy family group arrived with no respect for others staying and was noisy, there isnt much sound proofing in rooms and could hear conversations ect through the rooms next door. we were moved to a better and quiter room but shame had to move for only a 2 night stay.

My experience with this hotel has been really bad. I did a check-in on Dec 11th evening. 1. The receptionist has an attitude which makes us feel that I'm at service for her. 2. I booked a "Executive Double Room, 1 King Bed" which provides "1 King Bed" rated at £81. The Hotel provided me a "Superior Triple Room" which had a "1 Double Bed and 1 Single Bed" which was rated at £67. If I paid extra for a King size bed, the comment from the receptionist and hotel is that "While the room categories differ in features, the sleeping comfort and bed dimensions remain consistent across both types." I clearly don't understand the statement. Why will I take up a double bed instead of King bed when extra payment was done for it. 3. The washbasin sink floods with water after a morning brush. 4. Next room kids make noise even at 2 am. Some of the pros - 1. Good location. 2. Above average breakfast. 3. Easy access to Marwell zoo. 4. Plenty of car park space.

Room looked very tired and was cold upon arrival However an electric heater was available in the room. Member of staff was immediately attentive when advised of noise from water pipes in next room. Issue was resolved promptly. Very quiet in the restaurant; food was good.

We booked this hotel mainly for its location, as it’s just a 5-minute walk from Marwell Zoo — perfect for our daughter’s visit. The rooms were nice, and the surroundings are beautiful, with lots of greenery and trees that make you feel like you’re in the middle of a forest. However, the check-in experience was disappointing. The lady at the front desk in the evening was not friendly at all — no smile, no warmth, it honestly felt unwelcoming. On the bright side, the rest of the staff were pleasant. The team handling breakfast were friendly and made us feel welcome. Breakfast itself was decent. We did have an issue with a rusted water kettle in the room, but it was replaced after we raised a complaint. Overall, the stay was okay for the purpose of visiting the zoo, but the hospitality at check-in definitely needs improvement.

Booked last minute as a stop over pre Portsmouth ferry. Very reasonable price and despite some reviews was a peaceful little sanctuary surrounded by woodlands Arriving late and leaving early, we didn’t get chance to use the leisure facilities, but would happily go again for a couple of night nights relaxing

We chose this hotel as it is dog friendly (we saw other dogs but didn't hear them at night), had a pool and was conveniently located. The rooms were good as a base, but clearly a bit tired - you get what you pay for. Front desk service was helpful and friendly, but room servicing could have been a bit better (no bedding changes despite our duvet getting a bit muddy on day 2). Overall a solid option for the money and great for those with dogs - although note that they can't come into the dining area, which is understandable. Other pubs nearby do allow dogs.

This is our second stay at the Marwell Hotel Winchester. Even with a wedding in the main building, there was no noise in the rooms - superb planning :-) a 10 minute drive into Winchester, plenty of parking without any issues, a lovely pool for a morning swim. Friendly helpful staff.

Two night stay at Marwell Zoo.Nice 'safari' style hotel situated right next to the Zoo. Plenty of convenient parking and quite an unusual hotel but also very nice. Pleasant comfortable room and bar area. Nice but unexceptional breakfast, but overall very good value!

We arrived and staff member on the desk was really helpful, check in was simple. Drinks at the bar reasonable on draft but costs on spirits are over priced. The evening meal we had was excellent, the price was as you'd expect for a themed location. Breakfast unfortunately let the whole experience down from my perspective, English Breakfast was largely cold, scrambled egg looked like it had been made for an age and not much on the plate at all. My wife asked for scrambled on toast only instead with the advertised salmon, she does not like fish. The dish came back with fresh toast but the same scrambled egg which smelt of the previously added salmon. Unfortunately we were on a time limit so no value in complaining. However there was plenty of option for continental breakfast. In conclusion I would definitely recommend the location to stay at and in general eat at, others may have had a better breakfasts experience.

Will not use again, dated decor in bad condition, bathroom was dirty and damaged, restaurant overpriced and service was terrible, £5 for a small bottle of beer,breakfast was cold and kept having to ask for plates and cutlery, when leaving was totally ignored when leaving key at desk

It was an okay stay the property is a little tired the breakfast could have been replenished a bit more the sausages were over cooked or left for a long time the eggs were sitting in the heated tin for a long time so we’re almost cold we have had better

I made reception aware on checking into my room that the radiator pipes were leaking and the radiator was on full blasting out heat when the outside temperature was 24c the room was more like 32c reception told me they would have it fixed the following morning but this did not happen spent 2 very uncomfortable nights not able to sleep due to the excessive temprature of the room unable to open windows because of insects and bugs given the hotels location there was no room service and the bar closed at 10.30 both nights bar food was only available if ordered by 8.30 there was no water in the room or mini fridge the only water available was from the bathroom and i was not sure if safe to drink breakfast was a very poor standard given the cost of 16.50 for a english offerings were served up in food bins with what appeared to be small gas canisters underneath in an attempt to keep the food warm nothing was particularly fresh and was of mass catering standard genrally the hotel was tatty and in need of some form of renovation cleanliness was an issue genrally throughout if rated on a star basis i wiuld rate it 2 although the price tarrifs are more like 4 whith nearby hotes with 4 stars charging in some 8nstances less would not stay again and impossible to recomend

Two night stay at Marwell Zoo.Nice 'safari' style hotel situated right next to the Zoo. Plenty of convenient parking and quite an unusual hotel but also very nice. Pleasant comfortable room and bar area. Nice but unexceptional breakfast, but overall very good value!

Went for a wedding and the areas where the wedding was were lovely, beautifully decorated. Food and drinks at wedding were great Nice dinner in restaurant on arrival night. Good bar service Breakfast was good Rooms were ok, no amenties really, we had two bottles hand soap, nothing else. Luckily we did have a fan,

Notified after booking that leisure facilities were shut - disappointment . Venue parking fine. Room was ok , but no air con which is disappointing for such a venue- although a fan was supplied. Slept ok , bed was comfy and room clean. Breakfast advertised as available from 0700 - arrived at 0705 to no staff and minimal provision of continental breakfast . Sat myself down and sorted a basic breakfast , 20 mins before staff came out and started to bring out cooked items. only items available at 0730 scrambled eggs and hash brown! bit more disappointment before i left . All in not a great stay - adequate sleep but rest of experience .......disappointing !! Didnt seem to care much....

Although our room was beautifully clean, the rest of the hotel was in a shocking state. There was construction work taking place in our section of the hotel, and hotel benches were used as barriers, with safety signage propped up on the benches. We were not informed that any construction/renovation work was taking place. I was charged £45 for my dog (initially reception requested £45 per day— to which I protested) apparently for cleaning of the room. This money would be better spent cleaning the very dirty carpets throughout the hotel, and especially in the dining hall, where the carpets are visibly soiled everywhere. We had brought our bathing costumes along, looking forward to a swim in the hotel pool, but the pool is no longer in use, despite this being an advertised feature of the hotel on the website. Again, we were not informed of the pool closure. Breakfast was poor, with no fruit selection and no sausages, despite it being advertised as a Full English Breakfast. Our room was very hot, and so we needed to leave the balcony door open and the curtain drawn, however, there was an emergency light right outside, which lit up the room like daylight all night long. All in all, a very disappointing stay, and we will definitely not be back!
