La Jolla Cove Suites

Mixed feelings about this stay. Michael was helpful when we first checked in & gave great customer service. View is 10/10 but the room itself is not worth the price by a long shot. One elevator was out of service so with a wedding on the rooftop, we were forced to take the stairs…our room was on the 4th floor. Pool - all towels were used & dirty so I had to return to the office (via stairs) to get towels/service at the pool…did I mention the room is not worth the price? Run down, old, thin mattress…needs updating. Bottom line- would not recommend.

Grotty hotel, somewhat misadvertised, there was a loud wedding party at the roof top bar until late at night, lift out of order. No breakfast available. Had the description on Hotels.com been accurate I would have booked elsewhere. They added an unexpected $50 security deposit which has not been refunded back yet. Expensive parking.

This hotel is interesting. Most of it is very good. But the rusty stairwells and unreliable elevator are like a totally different hotel.

Cleaning staff did a good job and rooms were pretty clean. Beds were comfortable. Love the adjoining rooms for families. Property itself is dirty and cafe downstairs is never clean though the food and drinks are pretty good. Pool tables have no equipment. Pool is hard to get to and old. Loved waking up to the view, but the seals may keep you up at night.

The room and bathroom very small Bed is comfortably the shower runs very hot water. The pool and patio look pretty cool. Elevator sound stone age but they are maintenencing it. All and all it was pleasant.

We had to ask to turn up the heat. Paid alot for two nights. Limited parking

Nice rooms, simple and clean. Access to the pool was confusing and the elevator on our side of the building was not working.

Excellent location directly on the cove. Older section of the hotel is poor quality. No fridge. No coffee maker. Party on the roofp floor extremely loud. Stopped at 10pm but I was in the floor below and the cleanup/rolling carts noise went on for a long time after. For the so called “cheap” rooms basically you are paying for location only. Staff very nice though.

Staff was helpful and responsive when I requested to not have a room below the rooftop wedding venue. And they quickly fixed the TV problem. The information and pictures of the hotel are misleading. More precisely, there is not access to the beach and there is not a gym accessible. Onsite dining is not available. The breakfast area is completely limited with not enough sitting. The pool area was adequate and appeared clean.

Great location. Parking was expensive but easy and street parking would have been impossible. Pool was freezing cold, definitely not heated, hot tub was excellent. Mornings were loud with garbage trucks and service vehicles. View and roof top area were spectacular. Sea lions barked all night, which we liked but might not be for everyone.

This property is not being updated. The room we had was very old and run down. The furniture was gross. The carpet had stains all over it. Bathroom was old. The balcony looked like it could fall apart at any minute. Front desk called and woke us up at 11pm because of a review I wrote. It seems like they only care about the Pines side of the hotel and nothing more. It very sad because we’ve been coming here for years. Great location but hotel needs to be fixed up.

It was dirty, scratches on furniture. The only thing that was nice was the view. This property however is not worth staying at.

This has to have been one of the worst hotel experiences I have EVER had. Transparency is key to prevent these type of reviews. According to the hotel's description and pictures, the property has been remodeled/updated. This may be the case for some rooms, but definitely not ours. The suite was grossly outdated with old appliances, a non-working phone, multiple stains on the musty smelling carpet, a deck full of bird poop, and lagging wifi. Additionally, the upper "parking lot" was unpaved and uneven. The worst part was the noise from the upstairs guests. You could literally hear EVERY step. I made a noise complaint, as they continuously ran around the unit all night. There was a slight reprieve at 10pm, however, it started back up again at 6:30am. I noticed "someone" responds to most reviews. I hope they are actually in the process of making the necessary changes to provide guests with the experience they are paying for because this is not what I expected from this property.

The Staff Was Extremely Nice. The Room Wasn’t Clean

On my first night there seemed to have been a concert going on because there was loud music until about 2am. I also left the hotel with bites all over my body. The hotel said they did a thorough search for bed bugs but did not find evidence of them. I definitely left La Jolla Cove Suites with bites from bed bugs.

I was very disappointed, the pictures of the room online to what you really get it's totally the opposite. False advertisement. We got an ocean view room but it was so old and run down. The carpet was stain and sticky because it was so old so disgusting to walk on it. It was so out dated, it was a green lavender color. The room had a dirty smeel. I got some bed bites at night. I didn't complain because we got there for the wedding changed and left. Then we got back late night from wedding I was just too tire. It was only my daughter and myself I didn't feel safe the hall light wasn't working at night so when we got to our room it was so dark we couldn'teven see where the key went into the door. The restroom sink looked so dirty. I didn't even showered because nothing looked clean. Never in my life have I experienced such a rundown stayed. Motel 6 have better rooms than the one we got.

It was a beautiful view but the room was annoying not having simple things like microwaves but a bunch of breakable art.

The view was so beautiful but this was definitely in the older portion of the hotel. The lamps and outlets didn’t work, the water went from hot to scalding without any warning, you can hear the people upstairs from you like they are actually in your room. There was a wedding so we weren’t able to go up to the roof for the sunset. Just know what part of the hotel you’re staying in before you go.

This would've gotten a higher rating if my initial room in the Terrace section was actually more like advertised in the picture. I understand these are not as modern as the Pines but unit I was in was vastly different than in the pictures -- dirty carpet and floor, less decor, kitchen was dilapidated. I appreciate the upgrade to the Pines once I made these concerns known to management.

View was fantastic. Size of room was great. Condition of room was about 30 years out of date and made motel 6 look like five stars. Access was forty steps up or thirty steps down from parking or elevator. Expensive at half the price.

We stayed in the new renovated area! We loved the porch and the location. It was right across the street from the sea lions and short walk to the adorable seals! This hotel will be great once fully renovated. The new room was very nice.. only thing could use some more comfortable pillows. I would love to come back!

The balcony door requires two people to open it. The door to the room does not close properly and needs some attention. The bathroom toilets are outdated, reminiscent of the last century. Considering the price, more care should be taken to improve these issues.

Great location in La Jolla, but unless you pay extra for the renovated side (they did offer us an opportunity to upgrade to the renovated side for an extra $50 at check in, which in hindsight we should have), I would not recommend it. The outdated side of the hotel is in dire need of a renovation. We paid $200/night for a super small, musty room with a tiny bathroom (you can brush your teeth in the sink while sitting on the toilet and the bathroom door wouldn’t even close due to warping and horrible paint job). It has an extremely slow elevator, the closet is so small your clothes can’t hang horizontally, the shower water temperature changes randomly, it only has a small mobile AC unit, and there is no mini fridge. Long story short: The outdated side is so not worth the price. Spend the extra money and stay on the renovated side. Also, the 5th floor rooftop has a beautiful view and the Parakeet cafe by the lobby is very cute and has good coffee!

This is a nice hotel if you stay in the new part. We originally booked a two bed room suite and immediately went back to the front desk to change rooms. The two bedroom smelled like mildew and was very date. They were great about moving us to the new part and our room was much nicer. Although the shower head was not great and no coffee pot in the coffee machine. All in all the new room was just what we needed. I don’t know that I’d go back until the update the rest of the hotel.

Roberto ((at midnight)) was amazing and spectacular service. Treasure responded within seconds answering my needs. Christine helped us to extend our stay and amazing Customer service by all. Amazing view and perfect get away location.

Hotel staff pretty dang unfriendly. I asked for early check in, never got it, that’s ok. But I expected the room the be clean especially for a 4pm check in. There were used cotton swabs in the cotton swab tray and some furniture in disarray. Lighting in the bathroom was terrible. Balcony and view amazing. No signage for pool, literally NONE. Was told I needed a pool key for the pool key didn’t work.. wedding was on the rooftop blasting music so loud my whole room was shaking. Very interesting they wouldn’t notify guests. Overall won’t be back. Especially for the price.

Checked in, had an issue with my room and requested to be moved to a new one. The lady at the front desk was super helpful in making my situation right and very understanding about the issue with the ocean view room. Great service and amazing views of the ocean and coastline

We had a great stay, The staff was very helpful and accommodating. Our room was clean, nice towels, bedding and amenities .We did reserve the New Pines Oceanfront, which was a complete difference their attached older section. We had a perfect view from our oceanfront balcony. The coffee shop, Parakeet was perfect for morning coffe and pastries.

Front desk was incredibly helpful and personable. Best service we had all trip!

Staff was friendly. Easy and quick check in. Nice and clean. I got a spur of the moment deal which was awesome. Love this hotel’s location. Right across the street from the seals. It’s my favorite place I always come back to!

La Jolla is an absolutely beautiful place and this hotel has a grand view overlooking the ocean. Sadly, the hotel is so understaffed and neglected that we felt totally ripped off. We booked the corner suite for 3 people. The listing said there was a king size bed and a pull out couch. We checked into our room and discovered the pull out couch was unusable/screwed down (see pics). I went to the front desk to remedy the issue, they told me that I didn't read the room description and that it was actually a room for 2, not 3 even though I booked it for 3. They didn't have any roll away beds. The girl (only one on the premises) at the desk said she would call the manager who was out snorting coke or something and call me back. 2 hours later, I went back to talk to her because she didn’t call back. She offered another room for the same price. It was inferior. We decided to stay with our original corner suite. The girl said she would have someone bring blankets and pillows to our room. No one came. When we got to our room after dinner a few hours later, we still didn't have bedding for the couch. I went back to talk to the hostess and she got me the bedding herself, I carried up to my room and made the bed for my daughter. I felt bad for the girl at the desk because she was basically running the hotel on her own and really wasn't experienced at all. This place had ZERO concern for the customers and no personnel to take care of anything. Totally unprofessional. Stay elsewhere.

I love this hotel. The location is unbeatable.

The property and room are a bit run down but clean. If you're looking for luxury this place is not it. HOWEVER, if you are more interested in a million dollar view and location across from the beach, this is the spot. It may not be luxurious but there is plenty of hot water, great soap in the shower, bed was comfortable, the fridge and TV work, great pool and spa, and a nice little coffee shop in the lobby. I'll be back for that view!!!

Next to the ocean and @L Jolla villiage. Every night walked to a different restaurant.

Beautiful views, great place to stay right on the ocean.

Great property and very fun and large room. Insane view. Right next to the seals which got noisy at times but kinda fun. Walking to different places can be challenging with the smell from the poop of the cormorants. Other than that it was an awesome stay.

It was absolutely beautiful — the ocean view was breathtaking, and the staff were incredibly friendly. You just can’t beat waking up to that view. The hotel’s location, right across from the beach, made it even more perfect.

Great location and spacious rooms, two bedroom suites need a little updating. Suites are huge with multiple balconies and great ocean views!

Perfect location and perfect view from room balcony! Loved our recently renovated room. Door to next room needs sound proofing. We heard our neighbor’s entire work call and it was like he was in the same room with us. Sliding door to balcony had great sound proofing! We didn’t have to hear the seals all night. Beds were comfy!

We stayed in the renovated part of the hotel and enjoyed our stay. It was clean, the bed and pillows were comfortable. There was a coffee machine, a mini fridge, and an iron/ iron board. The room was small, but it did what we needed it to do. Regarding the noise, there was a lot of it. There was a rooftop party upstairs' every day we were there, but we didn’t mind it too much. We slept pretty well. The surrounding area was beautiful. There is so much to do in the area, and it was so nice to wake up and walk right up to the ocean. It’s really nice that there’s an amazing cafe on the property. I would recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

Perfectly located in the center of the cove area. Great shopping and dinning options all within walking distance.

Very large room. 2 bedrooms, 2 bathroom, 3 balconies all looking out to the ocean could hear waves and sealions. Large grassy park with path to walk along ocean with several places to get down to water. Easy walking to lots of cute ships and eating and ice cream. Great place to take kids too. But if no kids it's a good place too.

The new and renovated section of this property is really well made. The location is great to just walk out of the hotel and have great walks. The coffee shop on the property is awesome. There are so many good restaurants in walking distance. Great stay.
