Centrella Hotel, a Kirkwood Collection Hotel

Quaint historic - great location and more affordable Understand it’s well booked throughout the year due to decent value (high cost area) but keep in mind that is historic - older. Hotel has a mix of rooms – a relatively small room with standard queen bed, queen room on corners, rooms on upper floor with King sized beds – understand they are larger but have a lower ceiling due to roof line. Also a few “cabins”. There is a garden area and a lounge area for public use. At arrival there ere cookies and sparkling wine. They pour wine after 5pm. We received super friendly reception at check in and at breakfast - they had cups of yogurt w fresh berries - we were there early and hear the ladies chopping and working at prior. Otherwise the usual. Overheard the front desk adjust someone’s reservation who had accidently booked the wrong week. They really were looking to help fix the situation (possible if booked direct w the hotel or if booked via third party as refundable) Front desk is not staffed overnight. 5 parking spaces plus a large area to pull in and unload in front of the hotel, and lots of neighborhood street parking. No AC or elevator – think seaside and historic. Big fan in the closet for window if needed. Easy walk to shore and several great eateries.

The Inn was in an excellent location in Pacific Grove. There are many restaurants nearby and Lovers Point is just a couple of blocks away. The yogurt parfait was very good and pastries in the lobby. There is no elevator in this historic inn. Our unit slept 3 and was upstairs in the back. It was difficult for me, being elderly, to climb the stairs with luggage. Thank goodness my daughters were able to help me. I would recommend this inn for people with less mobility challenges. There is a ramp from parking to the first level, so if that is where your room is you will be fine.

It’s an old property so has character. Breakfast was nice, small but a nice selection. Limited parking was an issue for us. Basic hotel but had everything you need for an overnight stay.

The Centrella Hotel is quaint, clean, and friendly. However, it is missing several amenities that most people are accustomed to. The 9.0 rating on Expedia should come with an asterisk. *There is no air conditioning, refrigerator, microwave, window screens, nor coffee in the room. The flat panel tv is quite anmall (32”?) and if you want fresh air, you have to open the window and insert a portable screen that is stored in the armoir. With regard to the parking, unless you’re fortunate enough to secure one of the property’s 4 or 5 parking spots, you will need to rely on street parking.

Nice neighborhood with signs noting the ages of the homes. Hotel was clean, quiet, and offered coffee and tea at all hours. Close to the shoreline trail.

Lovely older inn with off street parking, happy hour sparkling wine, all day tea/coffee and simple continental brekkie. Simple decor but very comfy sitting room with fireplace and friendly humans. Staff were accommodating for early arrival and it is walkable to Pacific Grove shops and restaurants, one block to magical Lovers Lane beach with lots of seal pups to marvel at a short walk along the bike path. Just a lovely time!

The staff has been very friendly and helpful. I recommend accepting the use of text messaging for communicating with hotel staff. It has proven very useful and reminded me of things I might have otherwise forgotten. My wife and I would definitely consider returning for the hospitality we have received here. As for the accommodations, the room (for us, it was cute cottage next to the main building) was comfortable, with and old world charm, but with all the necessary modern amenities. In the lobby area, there is a common area with tables for dining and a big screen television surrounded by couches and comfy chairs, a coffee table and a cabinet filled with board games for a little group entertainment. All in all, I would definitely recommend Centrella Hotel if you're looking for someplace outside of the big corporate hotel chains, or for a romantic weekend.

Wasn't a huge fan of this place - we went on a holiday weekend so we paid more than this place normally charges, it was hot out and there was no AC, it was a busy weekend and they only have 4 parking spots for 20 rooms so had to look for street parking which was not easy. They also had the audacity to charge a daily "facilities" fee which hotels.com claims they won't do.

There are only five parking spaces in the hotel.

We arrived after the lobby hours so we had to check ourselves in. When we entered the room, we found that the sheets were dirtied with large stains. Calling the after hours line (no staff on-site after 8:30pm) was unhelpful and the manager was disinterested in resolving the issue, telling us we had no other option than to use the dirty sheets plus the extra blanket in the room. In the morning, we also discovered our towels were stained and dirty. This time, the front desk was there but said there were no spare towels they could give us. Management actively stays away from the property while guests are present and will intentionally be unresponsive to any calls. Hotels.com was able to help with a refund, but beware the poor management here.

We stayed one night at Centrella Hotel on July 20th and had a private cottage, which we liked for its side street access. Unfortunately, that was the highlight. The interior felt very old and neglected. The towels were damp and not clean, the carpets smelled and were dirty, and the bed was uncomfortable. Even the sheets didn’t feel clean, which made it hard to relax. The complimentary champagne in the lobby was a nice touch, but the WiFi was slow. Breakfast was basic—coffee, tea, orange juice, muffins, bagels, and yogurt parfait—but nothing memorable. With some much-needed updates and attention to cleanliness, this place could be a gem. Until then, we wouldn’t stay again.

Very very outdated and not kept up. The carpet was very dirty and pulled up and spots with tears and bumps you could trip on. The upstairs floor had zero A/C and was very hot in the room with limited air flow. Definitely false rating on this place, it’s definitely not a 3 or 4 /star rating as it states.

The check in was great. Staff very friendly and helpful. The property has very limited parking so most guests park on the street. Bare minimum on wheelchair accessibility. The room is okay and a bit musty. Should have been readied properly for occupancy. This seems to be the case whenever we reserve accessible rooms because the caregiver’s regular room seems to always be more decent compared to our room. Bed sheets seemed clean but stained. Bed itself sinking in the center. Window blinds falling apart.

Nice staff, clean

We’ve stayed in a lot of properties in California during a 2 1/2 weeks trip. And this was the worst. I knew the area as we stayed there the night before and I wanted to remain in the area but it was car week and hotel choices were limited. However, this did look good and the reviews were pretty decent however it was incredibly rundown. The towels were grey and thread bare. The bedding was also grey. The pillows were lumpy . The radiator was old and rusty. The blinds were old and need replacing. There was a kettle in the room but no cups or tea coffee and milk so I wasn’t too sure what I was supposed to do with it.! Couldn’t face breakfast so left as soon as we could

This is an absolutely beautiful location! We would definitely stay here again in the future. Very clean with helpful staff. Quiet location and walkable to the beach and other vista views.

The cottage was super clean, very roomy, and a great place to end the day after sightseeing. Very friendly staff as well.

They didn't offer to help us with baggage even though we had little children and had to walk up multiple flights of stairs. They tried notifying us via text that they would not be cleaning our rooms and only did so after we complained. They essentially shut down all operations at night, which we were not made aware of prior to booking. If you're expecting a hotel with hotel-level service, this is NOT it. We won't be coming back again.

We had great expectations when booking a family room for four adults. Though showing 2 bedrooms, the reality was one BR, one living room half sofa bed which was unusable. Mentioned to their staff, no adequate answer except book the cottage and another avail room which we were forced to do for another $250. The half sofa was totally inadequate. We were NOT pleased, otherwise a nice place to stay

Overall, the hotel is excellent. The staff was amazing; very friendly and attentive. We stayed in room #17 for 3 nights. It was small and lacked a placed to put your clothing. The armoire only had four hangers, but offered no place to put smaller clothing items. We found ourselves tripping over open suitcases. The mattress NEEDS to be replaced! It dipped in the middle and was very lumpy, which made for restless sleep for both of us.

It's a pretty Victorian boutique hotel. The room was very small, the bathroom was tiny . My husband says their coffee was good. We didn't stay for breakfast since we want to be on the road early. They serve breakfast at 8AM. Bagels, fruits, coffee is what they were going to serve. The staff were nice & pleasant. The place was clean.

The stay was nice and the hotel was in a good location. The walls are paper thin and we could hear the guy in the next room breathing heavy all night.

My wife and I stayed at this lovely property. It’s 5-10 minute walk to the ocean in one direction and sane walk other direction to so many restaurants and shop. Parking was ok. Free breakfast is good. They also have cookies and wine at 5. We didn’t have wine, but cookies are good. Definitely will come again

I really had higher hopes for this hotel. I will say-the location was great which is why I gave a rating of 3 stars and not lower, but the hotel itself was very lackluster. We stayed in the king executive suite which is located upstairs in the main building. The bed was caving in the middle. The pillows were tiny and lumpy. Our tub was clogged and the bathroom was in the middle of the sitting room and the bedroom so no one could pass through while someone was in the bathroom. The floors, walls, beds, and everything was very very creaky-to the point where I could hear people coming and going all night. The decor was thoughtless and mismatched. The TVs were outdated and oddly placed to where they were difficult to see. The "breakfast" was a joke. Just sooooo many opportunities or improvement. Such a bummer because the potential is definitely there. I will say, however, our friends stayed in one of the queen cottages and they had a much better experience.

Pros: Unique experience, very well kept for age of the property and furniture, clean overall, staff checks in through texts often. Cons: Poor sound proofing, lots of sounds from hallway traffic, creaky floors and furniture, squeaky bed, no desk or table, limited space, no staff on-site after 9pm and expects guests to ensure property is locked (dangerous?), breakfast is limited to pastries you can find at a grocery store and fruit parfait. I think some may enjoy this hotel, but for me I felt like it was not worth the value I paid (~$325 per night).

The Centrella Hotel is really beautiful and the staff were fantastic, however our room was extremely hot. We were placed on the 3rd floor and even though temps outside were cool in the low 60's, the room upstairs with no windows to open was extremely hot and very uncomfortable. I'm sure rooms on lower floors were much nicer and so I recommend requesting rooms on floor 1 and 2 and do not staff on the 3rd floor.

We stayed in a one bedroom queen room with patio access. It was pretty basic and could use an upgrade. I went with a friend so we needed two beds. They said the sofa in the living area was additional sleeping, but it was a hard futon couch that opened to a single size bed with a groove down the middle, not comfortable at all. The bedroom was fine, The rooms were a bit stuffy and stale, the outdoor seating area looked tacky with little effort put into the upkeep of the chairs and tables. The fireplace was nice and the location is perfect. Staff are friendly, courteous and professional. Yogurt parfaits are great, but the pastries were just so-so. Most likely won't stay here again.

Cute boutique property, great service, amazing breakfast (loved the parfait). Living on the first floor was a bit loud (poor sound isolation on the door), but after 11:00PM there was almost no sound.

The front desk staff was rude and abusive when they did not know guests were within earshot, with particular focus on disparaging guests whom they deem LGBT+. This is disappointing, as Kirkwood Collection properties are otherwise wonderful, but being mistreated by staff makes it hard to give them business.

It was a warm, friendly atmosphere in a quaint and charming building. The staff were all so kind and welcoming and the rooms cozy and comfortable. We loved the public spaces, with a inviting fire in the lobby and outdoor seating and the extremely short walk to the coast path, AND to wonderful restaurants. Thank you for a delightful stay.

We notified the property we would be arriving at 10:30pm. The key was supposed to be in an envelope under the front mat, but it wasn't there. Another couple had taken our key and were in our room. When we called the hotel, they suggested we knock on their room and tell them it was our room. I refused, and only then did they agree to call the other couple. We had to wait for the other couple to vacate our room. We weren't sure if the linens were clean. The other couple had used the towels, so they went to their room and changed out our towels. Other than a phone call, we didn't receive any help getting in to the room we'd already paid for. The next morning, none of the staff acknowledged we had any trouble. They were unfriendly for the most part at breakfast, and rude when we checked out. As I received a text message, I didn't realize I needed to check out and didn't know there were additional fees charged by the hotel. The woman at the front desk was impatient and rude to me. The service we received was unacceptable, we stayed in a used room.

What was worse was that they were slightly polite to others, so their lack of basic hospitality felt both knowing and targeted. Given the accommodations are a bit tired, the least they could do would be to shine in the service department, right?? Major fail and left an unfortunate distaste for my memories of my weekend stay because of their lack of care for basic hospitality. Oh, and it’s way past the time to take down the holiday decor and retire the dead poinsettias given February is only a handful of days away.

Beautiful, quaint hotel near the waterfront! Several dining options within a block or two, plenty more still within easy walking distance. The continental breakfast was simple but delicious and with several beverage options available.

First stay at the Centrella. The cottage was charming, spacious and comfortable with everything you need. Breakfast was yummy and location, location, location. You are centrally located near Lighthouse Ave for restaurants and shopping, a short walk to Lovers Point and the beach and about a 20 minute walk to Cannery Row and the aquarium. Great spot. Will be back.

Really liked this cute place. Convenient walking to restaurants and lovers point. Love the historic building that has kept the 1889 feel.

Perfect location

It is a charming Victorian hotel about 135 years old. It is just a short walk to the beach and restaurants and shops. Sit and read a book or visit with other patrons in the cozy parlor and enjoy the fireplace and a glass of wine.

Great location, and plenty of parking around the property. The hotel has friendly staff and a very good breakfast (simple but good).

We have been going to the Centrella for 10 years now, but some things have changed. The Best thing about the property is the location, just 3 blocks from the coastline and a block to downtown. It used to have a very nice breakfast, where they made Fritata's in the morning, offered a small menu of items and had home made scones, as well as fresh baked cookies in the afternoon. What they have now is store bought mini muffins and croissants, and a yogurt with granola and fruit bowl. Just not the same. The cookies taste like they are out of a tube, and not home made like they used taste like. The Room was nice, but the bed was not very comfortable. Woke up tossing and turning all night. Sadly, we will be trying other properties for the next few visits to find our new favorite in Pacific Grove.

Charming old property, but breakfast seemed scarce. We came down in plenty of time and there were two unappealing mini pastries. The friendly person staffing the room seemed set on offering to make a parfait, but since my spouse is lactose intolerant that would not have worked. We would have liked a bagel or toast or something? Continental breakfast is not a high bar, but the hotel seemed not to reach this.

Breakfast was all carbs. Could not eat it but coffee. I have to bring chicken and an egg I am diabetic. I was at Centrells inn2 times b4 and got a real breakfast. Also no refrigerator or microwave in room.

The rooms are beautifully appointed, lovely antique furniture and every amenity. There is a fireplace in the front parlor and champagne evenings, continental breakfast each morning.

This is our favorite place to stay when we go to Pacific Grove. The only thing we miss are the chocolate chip cookies each night and the scones they used to serve with a fruit parfait! We still get the fruit parfait which is delicious but the danishes are just ok.

Great location and Pacific Grove is a lovely area to stay near Monterey. The Centrella Hotel is a historic hotel so facilities in the room are a little dated but still very comfortable. We needed to make the sofa bed up on arrival for teenage children but linen all in the room so quick to do. Good breakfast with delicious granola, although only starts at 8am which may be helpful to be aware of if booked on a 9am whale watching trip from Fisherman’s Wharf. Enjoyed the complimentary glass of wine relaxing in the hotel lounge. Thank you for a lovely stay.

So called continental breakfast was pretty much nonexistent. Today at 8:30 am there were three tiny muffins and an almost empty pitcher of orange juice on offer. Coffee was there, but that was it. Carpet in the room looks worn and dirty I won’t complain about the fact that the hot water went off while I was taking a shower yesterday morning. I realize that it’s an old building and stuff happens, but shivering in the shower with shampoo dripping in my face while waiting for any water to come on did not add to my enjoyment of the stay.

We had a great 4 night stay. It’s an older building but beautifully maintained. It was very clean. It was only a 1 block walk from shopping and restaurants and very quiet. The breakfast was only bagels and muffins, etc. but the fruit and yogurt parfait was nice.
