The Midtowner Hotel, SureStay Collection by Best Western

Room needed to be mopped. Update decor/furnishings. Limited breakfast offerings and only 7-9 am. No all day coffee. Immediate area is sketchy but there are plenty of cameraa and lights. I felt safe.

Everything was good but they have very small parking spots

Swimming pool was closed on VERY hot day with no explanation. Front desk staff are not very hospitable or helpful. The property is rundown and has a problem with unhoused people in the parking lot. The room itself was fine, but the property is otherwise like a flophouse. Similar to most budget motels in cities.

Immediate area around the hotel is a little rough, litter and unhoused people. However, we walked to a very good restaurant less than 2 blocks away and felt safe. Covered Parking on site with free parking pass felt secure. Room was clean and recently thoroughly renovated with sleek and contemporary style. We also were unable to get tv to work properly. Slept well and comfortably.

Pros: *The room designs are nice, and the rooms are spacious. *Some of the staff were very nice. Specifically the young lady who works nights. Cons: *When checking in, there were people in front of me and 2 employees at the counter. Employee number 1 was helping the people in front of me, employee 2 ignored me and helped the person behind me. (Employee 1 was very nice) *The elevators did not work well, and broke down frequently, so if you have limited mobility, don’t stay here *the key cards become inactive seemingly at random (in the middle of our stay) *light fixtures come undone (as well as many of the sockets), mold-like substance on ceiling, burn mark on bathroom door. It seemed like a very lazy remodel *The custodian never came, and the room was not super clean upon entry (needed to be mopped) *Super uncomfortable bed. Ultimately, it feels like the room aesthetic was prioritized over any functionality, or cleanliness.

Elevator didn’t work, we were on the 3rd floor and had to push the buttons multiple times to go down

The pictures do not do this place justice it's unsafe The pool was not open due to being under maintenance there were no safe places to walk around the hotel, a TV did not work our entire time we stayed. They offered a discount on a future stay but that's not going to be a thing.

Breakfast offered a good range - and it was very useful to have the fridge in the room. A 2-star rating is fair. The hotel was showing its age a little - there were a couple of broken electrical fittings in the room, the room and could do with a paint. The advertised swimming pool looked in very poor condition - I am not sure if it was open, but I wouldn't have gone near it due to its condition. There were plenty of eating options within a 5-10 min walk and a supermarket too.

Staff was amazing and the room was clean. They did not provide shampoo and the walls are so thin you can hear everything. The elevator dings, people running up and down the halls all night. Smelt like marijauna (not too much of a problem but it was lingering everywhere you went.) No buckets for ice machine and the only vending machine they have does not work. Homeless everywhere and one was outside yelling the whole time I was trying to check in.

Having stayed in hundreds of hotels, I can confidently say this one was the worst. I checked in yesterday and left before unpacking after finding human pubic hair on the nightstand, stray hairs and toenail clippings scattered everywhere, and mysterious splatters on the headboard. The room looked decent at first glance, but its filth felt like a biohazard. On my way out, I witnessed a man jumping between three different vehicles in the parking lot in what appeared to be suspicious exchanges. Avoid this placunsafe, unsanitary, and among the worst I’ve ever encountered

The room was very clean and staff was friendly.

Beds were comfy, so comfy bed bugs lived in it. Woke up with 10 bites. Also saw a cockroach I think but started running around in the counter.

Upon entering the room, initially everything looked fine, however, after walking around we noticed that it was pretty dirty. Floors were filthy with crumbs and stains as if the room hadn’t been properly cleaned. The toilet did not flush right and the TV did not work.

Check in process was quick. Staff was friendly & informative. The outside of the hotel through me off but once I walked in my room I was very satisfied. My room was very clean, smelled good inside. The bathroom was updated. Great price for a very nice room! I stayed for breakfast the next day. I honestly had a great experience.

If you’re looking to save a couple bucks DONT. it’s not worth it. Images were accurate but the smell and cleanliness is not there. My non smoking room was definitely smoked in. There was dust everywhere and the windows were layered with thick black mold. It’s an older hotel but that’s no excuse. It is definitely neglected. I did not wish to sit anywhere due to a fear of bringing something home. I have never experienced this before. I was shocked it was affiliated with a best western. I left and booked elsewhere. I was offered a new room but my husband was so put off by the whole experience of walking into our room we had to decline.

The floor was filthy, and there were stains Lon the walls in the bathroom. Hair in the sink. Water and mold marks on the ceiling. The AC unit looked worse for wear. The bedding was clean, and the beds were okay. The staff was friendly, but overworked (were they short staffed?). Not a terrible place to stay, and it was good for one night.

I checked in to the hotel and when I walked in my room there was someone there painting my room. I went back down to let the front desk know and they said “oh, they will be done soon”. I asked for another room as I did not want to sleep in a paint filled room all night. They provided another room and it was not clean. There were crumbs and hair all over the ground. The air conditioning until was broken and dirty. All of the vents were caked in dust and dirt. The area was not very safe for a women staying alone. It seemed like a hot spot for meth heads. I would not recommend staying here. I felt very unsafe and it was not clean.

Surrounding area not great; rooms were very clean

Room was cozy and clean. Looked like room had recently been updated. Breakfast was good and plenty of options to choose from. We felt safe and overall had a good experience. Only thing I didn't like was it was so close to freeway you could hear the noise, but we got a great rate on the room so it wasn't a deal breaker.

We stay here often but this time we had issues with our television going on and off all night.

We just stayed one night, wanted relatively cheap and clean room. It was moving day to Sac State for our kid, so we wanted to stay one night to rest after helping her moving in, before heading back to Santa Cruz. Room was simple, but clean. Bed was pretty comfortable. The only thing that it was a bit too noisy, people walking by and talking, fan was pretty loud as well. Maybe getting room next time on the 2nd floor would be better to help with some foot traffic noise. They offer breakfast from 7-9am. We woke up late, and ready to check out (it was around 9:45), but we asked the receptionist about their breakfast, and even though it was after 9am, this nice guy let us go into the breakfast room (they did not clean it yet) and we were able to help ourselves with eggs, sausages, bagels, good coffee, orange juice. They also had cereal, yogurt and some fruit. It was pretty nice of him to let us in and eat something. I do not know your name, but you were working at the reception on Friday morning 08/22/2025. Thank you for being so nice.

Able to hear conversations on the walkway. Single distant elevator. Missing remote for tv never supplied by desk.

Was on the ground floor and heard EVERYTHING happening on the floor above and a homeless person was having a 10 minute yelling issue. The bed was super comfy.

Good spot. Tv didn’t turn on and the toilet didn’t feel secure. But overall really clean, spacious, nice staff.

The Midtowner is a comfortable, reasonably priced hotel conveniently located in Sacramento's Midtown. It has all the comforts one expects. The exterior may appear a bit shabby, but the rooms appear to have been recently refurbished. It is my new go to hotel in Sacramento.

needed to sleep and rest and that was the perfect spot. Only thing is the Wi-Fi needs to be updated or reset or something. Being told that I needed to upgrade to a paying Wi-Fi when the regular Wi-Fi did not work was not an okay option either

Our bathroom door in room 335 did not have a lock on the door...Less do some maintenance owners.

I booked through Expedia and the check-in process was smooth and easy. The gentleman at the front desk was polite and quick, which gave me a good first impression. The room was clean and smelled fresh when I first entered. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. Throughout the night, the door kept shifting, and it felt like someone was pulling on the handle. I couldn’t tell if it was the wind or something else, but it was unsettling and made it hard to feel comfortable. At checkout, the experience was disappointing. No one was at the front desk and the door was locked, so I waited. Eventually, a woman came out from the back door with an irritated expression. When I politely asked if she worked in the office, she snapped back “yes, what do you need?” I told her I needed to check out, and although she forced a smile, her attitude was rude and unprofessional. She mentioned something about flooding in the back room, but by then the interaction had already left a very negative impression.

The staff acted like they didn’t want me there. They hassled me about my service dog. I parked in front of my room, after 5 minutes I got a rude bang, bang, bang on the room door. The person informed me I was parked in the manager’s space. It was not marked. When I checked out I was hassled again about the service dog. I won’t be back.

The front desk receptionist was very accommodating. She was very kind and flexible with our arrival time and check out time.

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights.. didnt know that the motel 6 across the street was a drug motel.. lots of homeless & druggies coming and going. Not impressed, but across the street by Sutter Creek.. it was beautiful

The staff at check-in was rude, and before I even checked in, they ignored me and my messages. the place was poorly kept, housekeeping did not clean the room, and all requests were ignored. The remote to the TV did not work for the volume. even for a cheap stay, this was sad.

Our stay was great! We stayed here for its close proximity to golden 1 for a concert. Check in was fast and easy and the staff were so sweet! I wish I had gone back to ask for their names! They upgraded us to a suite that was perfect! We didn't need much when checking in except for some towels which they gave on the spot. They made sure everything was ready and we had what we needed. Its right next to an IHOP so there were food options for late night and like I mentioned, a good location close to downtown. Thank you Midtowner, will be coming here again if I am in the area.

The area felt sketchy. I’m from LA, so my metric for this type of thing was legit. I didn’t feel safe walking around, but felt safe in my room when locked.

This hotel is directly across the street from Sutter Hospital, which makes visiting loved ones in the hospital very easy and very convenient. The hotel has been recently renovated, and is clean comfortable and reasonably priced, if not underpriced.

Room was not ready at 3:00, no big deal, but when it was it was still kind of dirty and smelt like chemicals. We had a drug addict standing in front of the door smoking "something" parking was shady, drug addicts wondering around, some guy walking in circles talking to himself. But it was a close walk to the new Channel 24 venue. One block away across the freeway is a great neighborhood leading to the venue. Hopefully they will clean this place up and get a security guard on site.

Normally a place gets bad rating and it’s not really that bad. Because people want to pay two star prices but get 5 star services. Now that being said. This place has great reviews and it’s one of the worst places I’ve ever stayed at. First homeless everywhere, at the ihop 24/7, in the parking lot 24/7, on the side walk 24/7. Second every room you pass, the hall way, the elevator, even my room smells like weed. Third everything is broken, my door didn’t close correctly, had to slam it, the dead bolt didn’t work, the toilet would shack and made noise like it going to explode, key card would shut off randomly and so on. Towels so thin, they feel air light. Ac would back fire randomly (not really, but when the cooling system turned on, it popped so loud that it sounded like it). The tv remote was covered in banaids, with black tape and then wrapped the whole thing in scotch tape. The only thing and I mean the only thing good about this place. Is the bed, it’s super comfortable. Not the pillows, better off using the towels as pillows. And lastly. My door and several other doors on my floor had damage, where it looks like someone tried to pop the doors open. Not even painted over, can clearly see where the tool was placed and wood is missing from the force. I give this one (homeless lady looking into cars in the parking lot) out of five.

There was no warm water when I arrived, but I cannot fault them for that. They were apologetic and passed on the message that a part was being delivered overnight and the repair was expected to be completed about 0800 in the morning, and it was fixed close to that time. I had business to take care of first thing nearby, and was able to shower and check out when I returned. The location and price was attractive to me. The breakfast had few choices, but I did not care.

complimentary breakfast included in this motel stay. rooms have been renovated and are functional and clean. there is a safeway nearby, and it is very close to the hospital. it does have an elevator even though it is a motel.

The room was nice and clean. The continental breakfast was kind of sucky. The staff was nice.

The staff was friendly enough but the floor in our room was visibly dirty with debris and hair, and the shower was not clean at all. The breakfast buffet was simple (cereal, oatmeal, bagels) but underwhelming. The location of the hotel was nice, but I would not stay here again based on the lack of cleanliness in the room.

Price is good, staff is friendly and attentive. The area is a bit sketchy, especially some homeless and some rowdy people Friday night. They are trying to improve the feel and security with lighting, cameras, and a guard. Rooms are OK. Beds were decently comfortable and rooms seemed clean. They offer continental breakfast, though skimpy - a waffle maker and chocolate mix for drinks would plus it up.

Shower had long black hair on the floor and toilet had curly black hair on the outside of the bowel. I skipped breakfast because the sausage was cold and there were no eggs! The neighborhood was sketchy too- there was some guy throwing a knife repeatedly into a tree trunk.

For the price you are getting a very clean room, flat screen TV, working AC, comfy bed with clean sheets, decent bathroom. A solid breakfast with warm food to include sausage and eggs every morning. Really can’t be beat. The only complaint would be the homeless in the vicinity.
