the Spruce lodge has a nice location right on hwy.196; the local owners work hard to keep the place clean, and have obviously recently re-furbished the floors, linens, with a nice Keurig coffee maker, etc. We stayed 4 days which got to be a chore as the rooms are small with no storage (closets or bureaus with drawers), which means you are living out of your suitcase. The bathrooms are very small, a large man will have a hard time using the shower. OK for an overnight stay, but not longer.

Stayed in August so I suppose an A/C would have been nice.. they did provide a box fan. Quiet although there were earplugs on the night stand.😅 A nice homey rustic vibe. VERY CLEAN! Micro, fridge, upgraded bathroom. Loved it!

The room was very spacious, clean, and quaint. The owners provided lots of little extras, including ear plugs. I assumed the ear plugs were there because of the closeness to the highway, but the noises coming from other rooms were more problematic than the highway. The walls are very thin. It was still worth the price I paid.

My husband and I stayed at this property for a night while driving across Colorado for vacation. South Fork, Colorado is a great town in the middle of the mountains! We enjoyed our stay at the Spruce Lodge. The room we stayed in looked like it was remodeled, yet it still had an old-school charm :) We could see the mountains from our door and smell the pine when we opened it. While there is no complimentary breakfast here, there are great food options in the area. Local eateries were within driving distance from the Lodge and I would definitely suggest Tiny Timbers for breakfast!! Their breakfast burritos and bacon, cheese, and green Chile croissant are delicious!!!:) The only thing I would suggest to the hotel is maybe offering guests the ability to turn on/ off the outside porch lights in front of their rooms. My husband and I really wanted to stargaze the night we stayed at the hotel, but we encountered a little light pollution from the porch light that evening. Overall, this hotel is a treasure that I'm happy we found on our vacation this past week :)

Our room had a mountain view, which was lovely. We arrived a little later than we thought we would, however, I was emailed instructions on where to locate our room key and number. Quite efficient. Loved this quaint little motel. We would definitely stay here again if in the area.

Such a cool room! Check in and out was super convenient, the staff sent the instructions ahead of time. So when we arrived around midnight, there was no issue and the staff didn't have to wait up for us. We wish we had more time in this place, it was pretty cool! Beautiful scenery all around, too.

Stayed one night after a long drive and I have to say it was perfect. It’s clean, quiet, modern and convenient. You also get some snacks and a water bottle which is really appreciated especially when there isn’t supermarkets around. Loved it!

This place was a pleasant surprise. I was looking for some place between the Great Sands National Park and Mesa Verde, but didn't want to drive in the dark to Durango. I decided to take a chance with Spruce Lodge. Glad I did. The owners are very pleasant. While the buildings were built years ago, the bathroom has been very nicely remodeled. The motel is adjacent (set back) to the highway. I was worried about the traffic, but the noise was less intrusive than being in a city. Plus, ear plugs were provided although we didn't use them. We did use the coffee machine and ate the snacks.
