Melrose Georgetown Hotel

I love staying at the Melrose when in DC. It is great location - right over the bridge from Georgetown - so walkable to all of Georgetown and also I can still run to the mall in the morning. Trader Joe's is nearby and other restaurant options. The decor is lovely and the rooms are spacious and have all that you need. All staff there have been friendly and help with unique requests. Gym is solid, too. Would highly recommend.

I liked the location. I did not like the cost of parking, too high.

We had problems with WiFi and air condition at first, then they fixed it. There is no magnifying mirror. This hotel need to be upgraded

The parking is very expensive, only this is problem

We keep coming back here. Their staff is attentive to detail and make us feel welcome. The morning coffee and fresh drinking water in the lobby are very welcome treats. The gym is excellent. I would love to see them adding a light breakfast option at an affordable price as well.

great locations, great lobby and bar

Nice comfortable rooms with additional seating areas. Very clean and staff was friendly. It is a bit ridiculous to claim. They have Internet access when reviewing other people from 10 years ago this has been an ongoing problem for this hotel. If you plan on doing any business here look elsewhere because the Internet is nonexistent. Also if you arrive and there’s any snow at all falling, you will not have any television, so you will be without television and Internet.

The property was adequate but it did not go above and beyond. There was no bellperson to assist with luggage, and there wasn’t a door person who gives a sense of security at a city property.

Property had poor Wi-Fi in the rooms which was incredibly frustrating. Regarding cleanliness they only clean rooms every three days or give extra towels upon request. There was a crumb of food or something on the carpet and it immediately attracted a bunch of ants, and there was a rat trap underneath the TV with bait in it. The room was hot and muggy with A/C set to 60 it didn't work. Not worth the money if you need to stay more than 1 night.

Nice property in good location. We had to park on the street though, but we were lucky to find a spot right in front of the hotel The good thing is that street parking is free from Saturday evening to Sunday

Overall our experience was decent at the Melrose, aside from there being obvious blood drops on the wall/door frame in our bathroom. When I told the front desk clerk about this and showed her a picture her only response was “so do you want your room cleaned?” with no apology of any kind. Having body fluids, especially blood left on a hotel wall shows there is a lack of attention to cleanliness in these rooms.

Staff was friendly. Room could have been cleaner, stains on carpet and chair. Wallpaper in the bathroom had stains. Water did not drain in the shower. The water bottle in the room cost $10 and there were no other options!

The hotel was well situated for a visit to the museums in D.C. and for wandering around the Georgetown area with its many restaurants and shores. The Foggy Bottom metro station was a short distance away and made it convenient to get to Old Town Alexandria etc. The public spaces in the hotel looked nice. However, our room on the first floow was not very clean looking with faded carpet etc. It was large and convenient but looked just ordinary. Also, you could hear the people speaking in the room above through the AC vent! (It was kind of funny as the sofa is right below the vent.) For a hotel that was not cheap, I would think they would provide toilet paper that was better quality than what you find at Motel 6. Also, they had an over-priced bottle of water in the room! And it looked like it had been sitting there for months. My suggestion for the hotel would be not to cut corners with little things like the toilet paper and water! There was a convenience store close by so we just purchased water there. Also, the hotel added a fee for using a credit card to pay for the room! Really? So, yes, a convenient location but not the best hotel I've stayed in in a while!

Room is spotless

the bathroom toilet was not cleaned upon my artival. bathroom shower faucets ect are scummy and old moving around not fit to walk. carpet needs deep cleaning or replacement.

12 cockroaches killed. Dead ones even in the well of the phone - picked up phone 4 live ones and 2 crushed w hand set. Toilet paper hardware falling - mold on bathtub. Pictures to back up. I requested a full comp. They did a 50% off. I made it clear that will not do.

The room was filthy and cold. There was a full set of someone's toenails on the carpet. It clearly hasn't been vacuumed. The AC wasn't working. After half dozen calls to reception, I was brought a tiny space heater. An hour later the room was still freezing so I had to move all my stuff to a smaller and noisier room. Staff were unhelpful and had to be repeatedly asked to do what they just said they would do. Horrible experience

The hotel will wow you when you walk in the lobby! It's beautiful with the high-end feel you'd expect. Attentive staff throughout the lobby. My room was, unfortunately, a different experience. Stained carpet, holes in the blackout drapes, crumbs on the floor next to the bed, dust behind the lamp, frayed seams on the decorative pillows...disappointing. I travel for work A LOT and considering the cost of this hotel, I expected more than I got.

Cute, reasonably priced hotel in the cutest neighborhood in DC. Easy to walk. Did not have a car but it was easy to get places quickly. Trader Joe’s across the street, which was great. Friendly staff. Good value. A little dated in the rooms - carpet is pretty dirty/stained; some peeling/bubbling wallpaper in the bathroom and our sofa at the end of our bed had a big water stain on it. We also had a problem with the a/c - that never really got resolved - and had to change to rooms on our last night. Still, all of this did not detract from the stay. The bed was comfy, the sheets and towels were clean, the hotel was quiet, lobby and common areas are beautiful & we felt safe. Would give this place another try.

No housekeeping, room very dirty.

The location was perfect for us as it was within walking distance of everything we did. There are so many dining options in the area as well. The only complaint I have were of other, loud guests at all hours of night, and that was a group of young adults that thankfully didn’t stay the entire time we did.

The bed was not a 4-star hotel bed. It needed to be replaced badly. It was crowded the weekend we went, so there was a lot going on (as typical of DC). The atmosphere in the lobby was nice, and the hotel staff were kind and accommodating. The water pressure in the bathroom was awful. We had to “ration flushes” whenever one of us had to use the toilet. You could only flush once every hour or two. The shower was also bad water pressure, and it would take forever to wash up (as compared to other my experience with other hotels I have stayed in DC). The valet price they tell you is not reflective of what their actual price is (they say one thing in their email and on their main website, but then charge you more plus tax). Overall, it was an average stay, and we were a little disappointed in the room we had for the price we paid.

The room was really hot with no way to cool it down but did try to crack the window. Ventilation was noisy. The biggest issue though was the lighting! The room and the bathroom were both so dark it was impossible to put on makeup! The pluses: walkable to foggy bottom metro, Whole Foods, and sweet greens. Also a Trader Joe’s right around the corner

The AC in our room was at best marginal. Room did not cool during our visit. I notifies the front desk to ensure that it was fixed before next guest.

STAY AWAY! The hotel has one system for HVAC for the entire property. Because it was cool out, only heat was available. I could not cool my room and was unable to sleep for both nights of my stay because it was too hot. This ruined my trip and I left feeling like a zombie and caught an early flight home to sleep. The hotel also needs an upgrade, a thorough cleaning and the bathroom and TV are small. The front desk representatives are unhelpful and can be difficult. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. This is a three star hotel pretending to be a four star.

Really exceptional hotel for the price. We had a beautiful and comfortable corner suite, with great views of leafy Georgetown/Washington DC. We didn't eat in the hotel or use the bar as there is a wide choice of excellent breakfast/brunch and dining options nearby. The free hot drinks in reception in the morning was a nice touch. Staff were polite and welcoming and the facilities well maintained.

It was very disappointing to find our very hot room had no air conditioning. Even more to find the building has All Heat, All AC or Neither and we were in the neither season. We were relocated to a new room that "tends to be cooler" but ultimately we had to regulate the temperature by opening and closing the window. This was especially difficult since it was in the low 40s over night so we would have to adjust them closed in the middle of the night.

AC didn’t work very well

Room was spacious for our 6 day stay. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

The valet service is not good. It took over 30 minutes to receive my car with no other requests and traffic. Would not recommend if you have a car.

From check-in to check-out; from the lobby to the room, all was 5 STAR. All staff I interacted with were excellent. Location also awesome. Absolutely would stay again!!

We love staying at the Melrose. It’s near the Foggy Bottom metro and there’s a Trader Joe’s across the street. The hotel is beautiful and the staff is great. Chanee’ was so friendly and helpful. She, along with the other staff there, always greeted us and asked if we needed anything. Lizbeth even text me during our stay to check on us and see if we needed anything. We will be back!

The staff at the Melrose was fantastic! Liz and Melissa at the front desk were absolutely fantastic! The room had a beautiful view of the city! Thank you so much.

On check in damage deposit required and payment of not pre-paid historical preservation fee. That’s fine. However not communicated was a pending credit card lien for full room amount would occur despite it being pre-paid by Expedia! Be aware.

Our stay at Melrose Hotel ranks as the worst Ever! 1. At check in, they gave us a room that was previously used and not cleaned - while we received a new room, there was no acknowledgment of what happened. 2. The valet parking set up, given late check in, was adhoc, not well explained, with the front desk staff assuming it was fine to leave the car keys with a stranger without proper parking validation! 3. The approach, communication, follow through of the check in team was frankly appalling. The melrose is a strong & fragrant & inviting flower, the hotel bearing the same name has proven to be anything but!

Overall, this is a lovely hotel. The restaurant serves excellent food. The room was nice and comfortable. The Lobby and bar were nice. While the accommodations were nice, it is an older facility so if you have arthiritis and/or other joint issues, be aware that the commodes are low to the ground. Also, if you are prone to keeping track of your expenses, please be sure to inquire about the amount of the deposit and the Preservation fee. We did have an issue about the way their charges showed up on our bank account. When we inquired about the charge, Kitty, could not explain it. However, when we mentioned it to Liz, she was very helpful and expeditious in keeping us informed. The charges did drop off as Liz surmised. We really like this hotel and will stay again. We hope that they have better price transparency especially on their website and with their third-party hotels as well as adequate training for their receptionists when explaining the aforementioned issue. I must add that our issue was not isolated. There were a couple of people ahead of us who experienced the exact same issue. We had a great time despite the government shutdown. Thank you to Liz Morel and Ninette, to Sofiane A. who delivered our breakfast and to Omar F. our dinner server and Simone D. our bartender! Each of you enhanced our stay! See you next time!

The high points of this resort were the location because it was easy to walk to lots of key areas, and the lava cake we got at the bar even though it wasn’t on the menu. The “historical” element didn’t feel historical-it just felt aged. For example, there was no fan in the bathroom, and the paint on the doors was bubbling up and the wallpaper was peeling. Upon check-in, the man said I could only use a credit card, but the new system messed up, so my credit card had multiple incremental charges nightly in addition to the hold. When I went back to the front desk to ask about it, she told me I could switch to my debit card and they would remove the other card. The same thing happened again to BOTH cards, and finally the day after 30 minutes and the front desk to check out, everything was reimbursed and charged correctly. While in the lobby and elevator, many guests were complaining about similar issues. We went to get the free coffee from 7-11am on Sunday, but the coffee was empty, the trash was full, there were no cups, and there was almost no creamer left. When they finally brought coffee, they didn’t replace anything else, including the cups. The thermostat didn’t work correctly, so we had to keep our windows open when the room got warm and you could hear people yelling at each other in the court yard. Lots of small things really sucked. We were super disappointed in this hotel and it had fabulous reviews. I wish we would’ve stayed at the four seasons down the street!

The staff was all very friendly and the room was comfortable. Everyone was happy to answer questions and make our stay go smoothly. Lizbeth at the front desk checked us in very late at night and was very helpful and friendly in our exhausted stupor!

The staff was top notch and the hotel was beautiful. No need to worry about parking. Valet was very fast and took good care of our car and luggage. A nice walk to the monuments!

Location is great

Well-managed and beautifully renovated historic hotel in a good location to explore both Georgetown and the usual DC attractions. Easy access to a nearby Metro station.

Absolutely wonderful “Historic Hotels of America” hotel. Beautiful lobby with a very nice bar. Huge, QUIET room. Wonderful bed. Excellent water pressure in the shower. Molten Brown shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, and soap. But the BEST thing about the hotel was its safe and convenient location … close to a metro stop, short walk to Georgetown, the wharf, the Kennedy Center, the White House. There was a Trader Joe’s across the street and a Whole Foods a few blocks away. Only slight negative … housekeeping every 3 days, and cups and soap/lotion in the room not replaced. Had to ask for more at the desk. Also no black tea available at the morning lobby tea service, only flavored herb teas - bring your own black tea if you are a tea drinker.

Great location to visit GW and Georgetown

We were on a short visit to DC. Hotel location was great, very close to some good restaurants, a short walk to the Metro, bus to Georgetown is across the street. Room was very comfortable. We enjoyed our stay

Location is key here! To the left Georgetown area and to the right the Capitol building all with in walking distance!

I chose to stay at this hotel because of the proximity to the metro. Located within 5mins walk to foggy bottom metro, it is super convenient especially to get to the dca airport with no need to transfer and less than a 30min ride! Hotel is a heritage site so this means they still using the original heating and cooling system so you can't really turn on the heating/cooling unless the hotel has them on. Not an issue for us and the staff were more than happy to provide an extra fan if needed. Rooms are very spacious, clean and the lobby is really beautiful. Coffee is provided on the first floor in the mornings which is nice. Check in and out was very smooth, and they were happy to hold out bags for us when we arrived and checked out early. Overall a lovely hotel and I will definitely come back next time I am in dc!

Great location

Very nice hotel with an excellent bar and restaurant and great bartender Simone. Nice front desk staff also! TV wasn’t working one night but it was fixed. Rooms are spacious and comfortable.

The VIP perk is dining credit but there are not many food options.

Great hotel with good proximity to GW and Georgetown. Bar typically closes early, around 10, and breakfast menu seems pretty high. No ice machines on the floor or laundry machines. Stayed here multiple times and would highly recommend but it is missing a few conveniences.

No bars or racks for hand towels, light bulbs out in vanity, no response for room service initially then when delivered was informed that some menu items ordered werent available and ensured they wouldnt be on final bill but was charged a random additional amount on checkout bill that front deak staff coulsnt refund. Also received no napkin, salt/pepper or cutlery with room service delivery

The hotel was very nice in a great location. The staff were super friendly. The food and coffee from the restaurant was amazing.

We were in town for the Inauguration. This hotel in the perfect location, so close to the Foggy Bottom Metro. We had no need for a car. You can walk to a variety of restaurants. The staff was professional, pleasant and helpful. We had a lovely breakfast in the hotel restaurant. We enjoyed our stay thoroughly and would return to The Melrose.

The hotel was well maintained, with a lovely lobby area to enjoy sitting in the evenings or after a long day sightseeing. There was a nice outside seating area too. The room was spacious and well equipped, I was impressed with the room. My main criticism would be the cost of food and drinks. It was outrageously expensive!
