The Heartland Inn was affordable & convenient to U of I athletic facilities. The Heartland had many solid reviews from repeat/loyal customers. However my feeling is it is mostly people of a certain age that need access to the U of I hospital which I am certain it is perfect for. Hotel needs an update. Good for an overnight but an extended stay would be disappointing. Breakfast buffet was good but not great. Pool was “acceptable” but small. Would be nice to add a fitness center. My largest issue was a young lady at the desk who on four separate occasions, was too occupied on her phone with her earbuds in to respond to my checking in, a request for a key that worked for our room, asking for a 4th pillow for our two beds, and at check out upon departure. On the 3rd & 4th occasion I decided to time the delay. 47 seconds & 52 seconds. Not a big deal but odd.

They stay was great, beds were comfortable and the room was very clean. It was a bit disappointing that the pool area was not open. But overall the stay was nice and the staff members were very kind and helpful.

We booked easily online through Expedia. The front desk was friendly and welcoming. We chose this place based on them having a pool and hot tub. Disappointed the pool and hot tub were not operational.They should come off the list of amenities. Room was nice and bed was comfortable. My favorite part of our stay was the complimentary breakfast. I appreciated the staff person. She was attentive and replenished low items. The food offerings were typical but better than most places we've stayed.Overall pleased with stay except for the unoperational pool and hot tub

Their breakfast was nice. Staff kept things stocked and there were plenty of options. There's no workout room, but there is a golf course abroad the road and a nice sidewalk/ walking area around it.

Always friendly service and clean. Not your high end hotel but the prices are great for what you get. Typically can get a standard room around $80-$90, but I typically get the hot tub suite, great size hot tub and rate is usually $90-$100. Hot breakfast that typically consists of sausage links, box eggs, waffles, fruit, juice, cereal, bagels, donut holes, hot cocoa, coffee, hot tea. The back of hotel there are a couple of patio areas and seating. I’ve even seen a grill out there. When I have used the pool a couple of times the water temp was great.

Breakfast is always fresh, always the same as well. Expect sausage links that you hope have actually been in the roaster for a while so they have browned for some flavor. You will also have cereal, toast, waffles, plain donut holes, some fruit, yougurt as well as orange and apple juice, milk, tea, hot cocoa, and coffee. Now a plus is during the week they have dinner they serve on most nights with fresh warm cookies. Hot tub is only in room that you upgrade to, typically around $90-$100 plus tax. Nice back area with tables and a rustic vibe: the pool is decent, no hot tub in pool area. Laundry is $3 per wash and $3 per dry that are top loaders with pretty big sized load capacity. Hotel is well cleaned and kept up, not the fanciest but not tuck motel vibes by any means. Staff is always friendly. They also have a free shuttle that shuttles people to and from the u of I hostipals which I think is a great service considering hospital parking is a nightmare and expensive.

Lobby is clean. Carpet in room was damp and stinks. Needs to be removed for such a high traffic area/ college motel area. I opened the window for fresh air. But you get what you pay for.

Other than small mixup at checkin using Expedia, the room was ready early. Place is clean. Bed is comfortable. Easy free parking. Short drive to Univ of Iowa. Free standard hot breakfast. They also had free dinner but we did not try it. Place could be renovated as it seems dated (only reason I did not give 5 stars), but I would definitely stay there again for cleanliness, price, convenience, and friendly staff.

The hallways were smelly with worn doors and carpet. The bathroom in our room had a dirty floor and the baseboards were very dirty. The hotel itself was well worn. Definitely not worth the inflated price we paid for graduation weekend!

This is an older building. The room was dirty (hairs on bed and bathroom). The tv and furnishings are outdated. On the positive side, the room was very quiet and private feeling, the staff was friendly, and they offered breakfast and dinner (quite limited and basic). Property location is good but my room, 208, was one of the dreariest I've stayed in for a while. There is a moisture or humidity issue in that room, perhaps elsewhere too from reviews I have now seen. Room seemed clean but smelled very dank, moist, gross (and I have a very poor sense of smell post-covid). Carpet felt moist, so much so that I didn't want to walk on it barefoot. Lighting is also poor, so with the dark carpet it felt cavelike. I know it is a budget offering but the smell/humidity is not welcome at any price point. Thank you

I liked the cost for the whirlpool room. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. I did not like the noise from upstairs and the noise from the heater that turned off and on all night with a noisy fan. Other than that, it was a very nice place to stay.

I was under the assumption that there was a hot tub. That is why I booked this place. Even when I was checking in I asked the desk clerk if the hot tub was working and she said, "Yes, I believe it's working fine. Its a great day for that." Also your television system needs to be updated, not all of the buttons on the "clean remote" worked. Who uses a box anymore. Get some smart tvs for Pete's sake! I most likely will never stay here again.

Great hotel for the price. The property is a little old with thin walls, but most people there are going to the UI hospitals in some way so it's not much of a problem. They have a UI patient discount when staying and a free hotel shuttle! My only issue was being next to a high traffic exterior exit door, so I recommend earplugs in that case. Really nice staff. Good breakfast, and they even have dinner certain weekdays. Water pressure was great!! Very clean, and scent free linens, which is super important for people with me with allergies. Room was cozily decorated with modern updates and I enjoyed coming back to the room every night from my conference at the river landing in coralville. Would definitely stay here again.

I was waiting for my husband to get back from his appointment at the U of I Hospital. I checked out so that the room would be cleared for cleaning and was sitting in the lobby reading my book. Your office help talked about their sex experiences and encounters, good and bad ones, for over an hour. I had a hard time resisting going up and telling them what I thought of their unprofessionalism in a place of employment. I let it pass even though I couldn’t believe their unprofessional conversation, but it never stopped. I finally left to go for a walk outside and then sat in my car. Please talk to and take appropriate action with these 2 gals! Very important for your business!!!

Every aspect of my stay was excellent. Very friendly and attentive staff from check-in to check out! Evening light dinner was a surprise and much appreciated after a long day on the road. The fresh made cookies topped it off. Tommy was very clean and well appointed. Slept better on the bed than I do at home. Breakfast was tasty and not the usual fare. Every offering was full and maintained. Best stay I’ve had in the last year!

Had to drive 40 miles one way at 11pm to check in 16 people (had to sit in lobby) that was already confirmed on the phone because evidently you haven’t ever had a business rent 4 rooms for workers before. So totally rediculous. Never again

They somehow assigned our room to other people at 1:45 am resulting people walking into our room at 1:45 am. Staff seemed to think it was funny when i brought it up. No apologies just a little laugh and "I heard about that" will never stay there again.

Clean, comfortable place to spend a night or three. Friendly staff. Included breakfast is about what you’d expect from a hotel at this price - cereal, donuts, buffet-style scrambled eggs and sausage, waffles. The only real issue is trying to get to downtown IA city. Getting out of the parking lot involves either making a left turn (with no light) across a very busy 5-lane road, or doing some gymnastics to navigate through some neighboring parking lots to make a slightly easier left, then make another left at a light onto the 5-lane road. Not a huge deal.

Love the hotel. Love the free dinner. Love the fantastic coffee machine. Espresso or lattes 24/7. I have been staying their lots lately. 8 nights this month. Love the breakfast - but I do get tired of sausage and eggs. Maybe bacon every once in a while. Maybe biscuits and gravy. As is - the breakfast is fine. They do have bagels, waffles, cereals, yogurts, and donut holes! I really shouldn’t complain!!!
