Super 8 by Wyndham Decorah

This is the most basic of hotels you can get. This hotel does not have connecting rooms despite the website saying it does. I called the day before we arrived to confirm we could have connecting rooms & the woman that answered the phone said yes. When arriving I was informed not only do our rooms not connect, but they weren’t even by each other! Since I had kids in the other room it was necessary they were together do it took about 10 minutes for the man to switch things around. Not sure why they would think a reservation made for 2 rooms meant we wanted them away from each other. There are very few options for breakfast. My kids barely ate, but luckily we were planning an early lunch. As for cleanliness, the main part of both rooms were good, but both bathrooms had hair in the bathtub and sticky floors. The toilet in one bathroom squealed loudly when flushing, so much that my child with Autism/sensory issues had a hard time with it. The towels were musty smelling like they weren’t dried all the way before folding to put in the room. The hotel definitely isn’t worth the $120ish per room that I paid. With no amenities like a pool or better breakfast, this hotel shouldn’t be charging more than $70-80/night.

The room was okay but not worth $150. The mirror in the living area by the bed was dusty as if it hadn't been cleaned in a couple months. I had to kill a spider that was in the shower. The shower felt as if it was going to collapse at any time (one of those cheap plastic deals that go over the old tub) there was also a couple dead lighting bugs in the room, The coffee was terrible. The bed was decent. I would stay again if I had to.

Things were updated to the new look, but they were done poorly. Had to open window because the smell of the cleaners that were used were so strong and stunk. Grout in bathroom floor was missing. Tile work looked bad wasn’t done by a professional. Paint on back of the bathroom door. Carpet looked old. Our room was on the second floor and we were directed to the stairs. Not sure if there is an elevator in the hotel. The photographer did a good job with showing the positives and hiding the negatives.

We stay here every time we are in town, this is the third time we have stayed multiple nights

The check in was a little strange. No one appeared at the desk for five minutes, even though more than one party was waiting. Then, when the clerk appeared he joked around and made small talk chatting with the first group even after he gave them a room key, even though someone else was obviously waiting to get into a room. The other staff members were great. The management needs to move the ice machine away from its current proximity to the rooms. I was awakened several times during the night with the noise of the machine and the loud conversations. If I had been planning to stay more than one night, I would have requested another room.
