On checking in we were offered an upgrade to a one-bedroom suite. After reaching our room we realised we were right by the elevator and from our bedroom could hear banging noises every time the elevator was used. In addition, the room faced a major road with constant traffic noise and sirens. We asked to move but were told no other rooms were available. That night loud music started at approximately 11pm and continued until 2am. This turned out to have come from a nightclub nearby. As a result I had very little sleep. The suite was spacious but the furniture looked old and in poor condition and the fridge made a constant buzzing noise. The next morning a helpful member of staff on the front desk moved us to a room on a lower floor at the other side of the hotel that was much quieter. Generally the staff were helpful and responsive. We had dinner in the restaurant one night - the food wasn't to our taste - oily and the pasta was overcooked (I asked to have it al dente but our server didn't know what I meant.) On checking out I was surprised to have been charged a $35 per night 'amenities fee'. When we checked in we were told we would only be charged extra if we ordered room service etc. It turns out this charge is levied for 'complimentary' services such as access to the hotel gym, which means they are not complimentary at all. A bit like charging extra for having a seat on a plane or access to the bathrooms. It left a sour taste after what was already a very expensive stay
