Hampton Inn Madison Square Garden Area Hotel

We were a family of 8 staying in 3 rooms, the ac controls were broken in 1 room, and there was no external thermostat, so we couldn’t adjust the ac, the room temp was fixed to 66 degrees. In one of the other rooms, the AC didn’t work the controls weren’t broken but when we decrease the temperature to 71°, the room would not get cold. It was about 76° in that room all the time. We called them to come fix it and they did or they said they came and fixed it, but it didn’t really do anything. Also, the breakfast area is very small for the number of people staying at the hotel. Anytime you went down during breakfast hours, it was always hard to find a seat. And they constantly ran out of stuff. Their breakfast sucked, they hardly had any choices. And they would constantly run out of milk, bananas, cereal, juices, just about anything and everything. They had two elevators, but one of them was hardly ever working so we had to wait a very long time on the elevator to even come down to the lobby. The rooms in general are very, very small and congested, and we had no place to open up our bags and suitcases. I would not recommend families to stay here although they claim to be fam friendly. My family and I were not pleased. The area is nice because it’s accessible to a lot of the popular spots and just a few blocks from Times Square but if it was up to me, and if I ever go back, I would to stay at another hotel in that very area.

The room was tiny but we were only there for one night so it was fine. The air conditioner randomly started blowing hot air multiple times. I ordered “room service” via the QR code provided and it never showed up, but I did get a refund for that. The ice maker on the closest floor didn’t work. Overall it was fine for one night but I would have been uncomfortable if we’d had to stayed any longer.

Complimentary hot breakfast was nice. Luggage hold didn’t seem very secure, luggage was spread out all around the front desk and lobby. Location was great.

Very small room, but it worked. The breakfast was great with lots of variety. The small elevators were often packed and required patience.

Property is in a convenient location, close to shops and restaurants. Rooms are on the small side, 2 adults sharing a twin room was a struggle for space, just 1 small closet to hang clothes, nowhere to put cases or bags. Only 2 lifts, meaning you could be waiting up to 15 minutes for a lift at busy times of the day, it doesnt help that the hotel cleaning staff also use the same lifts.

Great location. Breakfast was adequate, however one day due to a late delivery. There was literally a few basic items and not even cutlery to eat what they did have to eat. Didn’t use the “gym” as it was a small space with a treadmill. Staff were great and always available to assist. Got charged $25 after checking out so I will be chasing up with hotel. As everything was paid for in advance and when we checked out, staff said we were “all good”

climate control remote was falling off the wall & had no range. TV remote needed new batteries. Breakfast was continually empty...I went in 4 times when there were no eggs & no breakfast meat. Far too small space for the number of guests. Only 2 elevators for 19 floors. Ridiculously loud room doors slamming when they close

The prime location is the only thing going for this place. But the hotel itself is awful. Not a single machine in the building works (vending machine, ice machines on various floors and they don’t seem to care about fixing them). If you want to get a cold bottled water don’t bother going to the lobby because they don’t restock the fridge. Poor amenities, no mini fridge in the room. The housekeepers forgot to replace my shower curtain and hand soap. Slow and overcrowded elevators and cramped lobby makes for a stressful experience. And the free breakfast is crappy and inaccessible anyway, I went down at an early hour and the entire place was swamped and barely any food left. I ended up eating out every morning. Too little space for too many people. Unless you are on a very tight budget, stay somewhere nicer.

Run-down hotel. Luggage left in unlocked room; could've been stolen. Room wasn't very clean and bed and pillows were uncomfortable. No one picked up when I tried to set a wake-up call.

Hotel looks old-room was dirty, had a weird smell, air conditioning was not working properly. While I only needed a room as a stopover for a night, I would not stay her again.

This property is outdated, dirty, and smelly. I did not enjoy my stay whatsoever.

The hotel has an excellent location, very close to major train stations (Subway, NJ Transit, Amtrak, LIRR and path). You can also get to touristic places after a short walk. The area is safe. The hotel rooms are good, particularly if you go out all day. The breakfast area is small, and can get very crowded when the hotel is fully booked. Our floor and room had a light smell from humidity (it was a very clean area, but the smell was there, maybe from a/c). Staff is very friendly.

The hotel staff was so friendly. Check in was easy. The room was very clean and the beds were comfortable.

The room is not clean. Blood on the sheets and door to the restroom. The only positive was the air conditioner.

Although many towels were provided, some were yellow and dirty, came out with hair in between, some were so thin that it was about to rip. I asked for removing trash and left it outside the door, but never came to pick it up. It was still there with full trash! The sheets also had a smell.

The staff was very responsive and courteous. The location is nice being so close to many landmarks and access to the subways. The breakfast was good as well. Having access to full size body wash, shampoo and conditioner, and lotion in the bathroom was very nice. The bathroom is a bit small, especially the shower and the bathroom sink was slow draining the water. The rooms are cleaned well for the most part. It was unfortunate that access to the property’s terrace was unavailable. And with the rooms being so close to the elevators it was a bit loud hearing the elevators. And not having access to a mini fridge or microwave was unfortunate as well.

Very nice clean and comfortable hotel

Good value hotel located in an area with lots of options for transportation. The breakfast room is small, and gets crowded at peak times. The facility and rooms are very clean.

The air conditioner in the room was really loud lol. That's about it.

It was walkable distance from the train station, which was great. Not having a microwave or mini-fridge was unusual and it made us think more about what we could order or eat because we couldnt store it or reheat anything.

Stayed here because it got good reviews and is close to MSG. The good stuff is the staff is friendly, the bed is comfortable, the breakfast is ok (if you get there early enough), the room is decent size considering the fact it's NYC, the elevators are in good working order. And the bad....The room and hallways had a musty smell, WiFi was spotty at best and some rooms (not mine) didn't have working AC and it was in the 90's .

Room was clean. Staff very nice. Breakfast was pretty decent. Air conditioning was terrible and the room was quite warm which made sleeping a bit difficult. Overall not a bad stay just wish it wasn’t 100 degrees in the shade with no ac on the 12 floor!

Wifi was down much of stay. Otherwise very good.

Such great and friendly service! We had a problem of our own making and Adriana and Artem totally resolved our issue, all with a smile! So grateful to them.

Most horrible experience I have ever gone through to the point where 911 was called. Staff, director and managers handled the situation very poorly. DO NOT STAY. My access key had access to an additional room that was not mine and it let me in and they are denying it. All of a sudden there’s no cameras all of a sudden there’s no history on my key card. I wasted an entire night trying to figure out why I had access to another room and I had left stuff in there and they wouldn’t let me go back in to take MY stuff out. I felt so unsafe! the entire stay the front staff made me feel so uncomfortable. Once I checked out they were so rude and I had to go through so much just to get one night refunded. You get what you pay for.

Terrible service! Persons working in the reception were rude and arrogant! Not service minded at all. Will not come to this hotel again and do not recommend it to anyone else.

Easy to get to from train station. Check in took forever and they gave us keys to our room 35 minutes later. When we opened the door, there was someone else in the room. Outlets in room didn’t work. Room was never cleaned and we had no toilet paper. Breakfast not good and too crowded. Food was cold. Manager seemed like he didn’t really care but the desk staff was nice. Wouldn’t recommend if you are looking for a nice place to stay.

By far the best part were the employees. Friendly and professional.

Really one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The staff was absolutely useless. We stayed for 4 days and I had to fight tooth and nail to get them to clean and restock our room. They were refusing to clean it. And every day we had to listen while the cleaning staff cleaned the room next to ours. We couldn’t take showers since we had no soap or towels. Not only that, but when the doors to rooms shut they SLAM shut (unbelievable loud). Could barely get any sleep because we had to listen to doors slamming all night. I will never stay at another Hampton Inn.

Stay was ok. Tried to do early check in and they didn't have anything available. Waited unless check in time at 3 pm and they still didn't have a room available. Asked for a copy of the receipt for the stay and front desk said they would email it to me. They never sent it and after check out there was an additional fee of some sort. Since I don't have a copy of the receipt I have no idea what it is for.

The room was too small but clean. The breakfast room was too small as well, and often people had to line up to wait for a table. At arrival the lady who checked us in was terribly rude, while the rest of the staff was kind and helpful.

Clean and great location

Proximity to MSG is great. The hotel could use some updating and cleaning, especially carpets. Although not a problem for us, people should know that St. Francis of Assisi Church is nearby and the crowds of homeless surrounding it may be an issue for some. I understand that the church has done some wonderful humanitarian assistance over the years and there were no unpleasant encounters. The hotel staff was great, including the very friendly, kind manager and the room maintenance folks. Check in didn't work very well. Check-in time was supposedly 3pm but we got one room at 4:30 and the other at 5: 30 limiting our plans for the afternoon. I understand staffing shortages and suspect they got slammed with a sold out show at MSG, but wish that part had gone better.

Location is great. We flew to Newark and took a train that brought us right to Penn Station, W31 St and 7 Av. It was very close to the hotel. The area is great for dining and sightseeing. Be ready to see the line of homeless people in the morning lining up for breakfast at the church across the street and all through the night and day the stink of weed and urine on the street.

I have stayed at this property before. But it was precovid. I chose the hotel due to location to planned events..proximity to Penn Station and MSG. However, the area and street have definitely taken a downturn since my last visit. Lewd behavior of those who loitered made the area unsafe. I will not stay here again because of the downturn of the immediate area, not the hotel.

Conveniently located for Penn Station and therefore other attractions in NYC.

Good location to visit Manhattan, but the street where the hotel is located is not great. Not very clean, lots of weird people, and you don't feel completely safe until you reach broader streets.

Love the area around this hotel and the staff is always so nice and welcome! My go to hotel when I go to NYC!

Excellent room for central new york. Breakfast and room service excellent. The area was let down a bit by homelessness and litter outside but to be expected in a city centre.

The staff itself was very good, but the breakfast service was really poor, stayed there for 4 nights, the breakfast was horrible all days, nothing available, the waffle machine was out of order since we got there and wasn't fixed until we left, there is only one toaster, a very slow one, making a long line to grab some bread. Even getting to the breakfast area early not enough food available all times making you wait to have something.

We arrived at noon for check-in, but no rooms were available; this is understandable. When we asked for them to hold our two small carry-on bags until we checked in, the young lady at the front desk said that there was "no room" left to hold bags. What? She repeated this several times and offered nothing other than - "no, we can't hold your bags". About 10 minutes later, I approached a woman who appeared to be a manager/supervisor, and she was great. She found room for our bags and saved the day. They need to replace the young lady who works at check-in. Also, the breakfast room is tiny and overcrowded. If you're expecting the typical level of service at a Hampton Inn, you'll probably be disappointed.

Breakfast is included for free, which consists of a hot buffet, toast, waffle making machine, fruit, coffees, fruit juices. They change the hot food every day. The breakfast service can be chaotic, especially at the weekend, and you can struggle to find a table. The queue for the waffle maker can be long too. They also don’t have normal English tea bags either at breakfast or in the rooms. The rooms are clean but quite dated in their decor. The bed is comfortable. The air conditioning unit is quite noisy but it didn’t stop me from sleeping (and I’m a light sleeper!). There was no noise from the street. The staff are generally helpful, but not always particularly happy or cheerful! The location is ideal. 3 minutes from Penn Station which connects to Jamaica Station via LIRR, from there the AirTrain goes direct to JFK Terminals. Really cheap to transfer from airport, very little walking involved, plenty of seats on the LIRR trains which are all air conditioned (very welcome in the New York heat and humidity in the summer!). You can easily walk to Time Square, Empire State etc which are all within a 10-15 minute walk. If you like to walk you can get to lower Manhattan in about an hour or so walk, or similarly uptown to Central Park. Overall, for the price, it is a clean hotel with a nice free breakfast, and a great central location with easy access to the Subway and LIRR transport systems. I would stay there again.

More like a 2 star hotel. Never enough seating for breakfast and eating off paper plates with plastic cutlery was ridiculous

The hotel has an amazing location. You are right next to the Penn Station with connections through whole of New York. It was easy to find lunch and dinner spots and the staff was very helpful. The hotel is quiet and the breakfast was daily from 6:30-10:00AM with a lot of varieties. I would definitely come back! :)

It was very convenient for seeing the sites of New York. The rooms were small but well equipped and perfectly adequate. However the breakfast room was far too small for the number of guests and there was often no bowls, plates, tea, coffee or many items of food.

Excellent free breakfast, comfortable rooms, good rate.

Ice machines were out and there was no food left when we went down for breakfast.

A great place to stay being close to metro and many attractions. Having breakfast included is a great bonus just get down early as there is not a lot of seating.
