Danfords Hotel & Marina

Wonderful iconic hotel with great restaurant bar and mega-yachts docked outside. Walking distance to lots of shops. Too bad they have no fitness room, or laundry, or breakfast.

There were no ice machines, which felt odd. The room was nice, but the air conditioner was on energy saver, so it would turn off and on all night, which was very disruptive, and the room would get warm. It was in a great location, so much stuff within walking distance, and very close to the ferry. No elevator.

Biggest issue was no ice machine. Had to go to the bar. Otherwise beautiful place.

The Dinning area is open now, very pretty. Extremely convenient to walking around Port Jeff. Very peaceful visit. The hotel staff are very helpful.

This property was incredibly disappointing. The parking is very limited and every night we struggled to find a spot when returning to the hotel. Lots of cars were parked in the lot without a valid hotel pass so clearly, non hotel guests are using this lot since there is zero enforcement. The area outside our room was littered with beer cans and take out garbage - these items were never picked up or cleaned during the entire 3 days we stayed here. Inside the room, there was a very large 2'x2' stain on the carpet and lots of mold on the bathroom ceiling. The shower did not drain. Lastly, the noise level coming from rooms above and beside ours was awful. We heard every footstep and conversation when these guests came back to the hotel at 1am. Overall, extremely disappointing experience, especially for the price paid ($450/night). We will not be back to this property.

When booking there was no mention of their bar/restaurant being under renovation. All was closed down.

I paid a $30 resort fee. I was under the impression that was for a gym. No gym. I was told "there are two bottles of water in your room complimentary". Oh, wow, I better savor that water. This hotel is not worth the expensive rate.

Danfords is in a great location to enjoy the Bars, Restaurants and shopping that Port Jefferson has to offer. The rooms are generally nice and comfortable. Toiletries are provided but they are the pump bottle, stuck on the wall type. The rooms are serviced early in the day but the staff needs to understand that Do not disturb means do not disturb. Parking is free but uses local municipal lots so you might have a long search for a space on a Friday or Saturday.

Rooms lacked bottles of drinking water and snacks, mini bar, a safe, a full length mirror and good lighting. Shower wasn’t draining properly, bathroom sink lacked counter space. Outside steps not safe-they have dips covered in carpet which is dangerous because you can’t see the dips until you actually step in them. No elevator in our building. Bar was closed for renovations. Lobby floor needs to be repainted or restained. It just wasn’t worth $360 per night.

As far as location;you just can't beat the convenience, especially if you are coming in on the ferry. With that being said though; that is why I find this hotel doesn't have to put much effort into much of anything else. First of all, parking is terrible. With no suggestions, or designated room spots for your vehicle;one is left to try to find a somewhere on your own. You are issued a Danfords mirror hanger so you do not have to pay in the public parking, which can be a distance, or choose valet for an additional 30$. We had to keep asking for additional towels for our party of four, they did not provide the room with enough. Each morning they would come in and make our beds, while we were out, which was nice, but would take our used towels and not replace.By the end of our three day stay we were sharing old towels.Coffee is offered in the lobby in the morning from 7 am on,but our first morning it wasn't ready at 7:15. There is a Dunkin nearby that you can walk to, and in fairness they do supply a coffee maker in the room, but I personally do not like using those.You will pay for breakfast.Finally this is not a handicap friendly/accessible hotel. If you have any mobility issues I would strongly suggest to let them know in advance.I am still able bodied but we were lugging our suitcases up three flights of stairs, others might have extreme difficulty.Checkout day they were knocking at 10 am to see when we were leaving. Check out is at 11.

Black mold in bathroom

Room was spacious with a great sitting area. Unfortunately, it was dirty. The floor was dirty (crumbs, scuffs, spills) and sticky. The door trim in the bathroom was dirty (possibly with dried hair products) and the light switch cover looked like it has never been wiped down with the amount of dust/dirt seen. The couch was stained, the bolster pillows on each bed were torn (and very worn) and the there was more dirty wood trim. I understand that it is “off-season” and help might be an issue but not an excuse. I was in a building across the street because I could not justify paying for a water view and it was extremely loud. I overlooked the dumpsters that were loudly emptied every morning and filled every night by the close restaurants. You can loudly hear guests coming and going in the hallway. The $29 (plus tax) nightly fee is ridiculous during the off season in my opinion. I can understand in the nicer months when they add parking but parking meters are off until April 1st. The continental breakfast, use of internet and a bottle of water do NOT justify the extra $31.50/nt. The room did have a refrigerator which was nice. The location of the property is excellent!

Cleanliness.

Staff were awesome. Beds were great. The bathroom had a thick scum/ slime outside the shower in the corner where i guess a mop couldn't get into the corners. It was really noisy and our keys were disabled prior to check out time.

Clean room, friendly staff, lovely place to stay

Our room and bathroom were so clean and the beds were so comfortable. I Loved being so close to the town. So many restaurants and ice cream parlors to visit. ❤️

We were given a room in the basement facing the parking lot with black mold on the bathroom ceiling. The front desk refused to move us to a different room without paying up, no upper management was available and even the maintenance guy they sent said he would not stay in this room. A total disappointment!

clean quiet and convenient

This property needs a good cleaning. My socks were black after walking around in the hotel room there were stains on the walls, ect. For the prices, I think it could be a lot cleaner and updated.

Can’t beat the location here. Shops, restaurants, and all kinds of stuff to do within walking distance. The views are also top notch. However with all that available stuff comes lots of noise from the street, people, and the surrounding area, so don’t expect this to be a quiet getaway. Our room was large and clean with a few minor areas that need updating. (Our toilet was partially wobbly and noisy). The new restaurant and/or bar area appeared to be closed from inside the lobby while we were there but we had an off site event that kept us too busy to mind. Would stay again.

The room was so quaint and spacious. The bedding was dreamy! I wish I could’ve stayed for a few more nights

The location is great but the buildings are old and are showing their age. The windows let in a LOT of noise and its not a restful nights sleep. The hotel room does not have a desk or a comfortable place to setup a laptop. The bathroom is the bigger eye sore as the tile is cracking and looking up at the ceiling you see the separation in the sheetrock. The headlamps didn't work in our room and one of the outlets didn't work. This hotel is a lot of money for the rooms to be this old. Asked for extra blankets for the kids, we never received them.Asked for towels after housekeeping didn't replace them and did not receive those either. We dined at the restaurant for breakfast and the service was terrible. There were only 2 people other than my family in the dining room and 2 waitstaff. We did not get asked for drinks until about 15 minutes after being seated and the waiter was unable to answer questions about whether or not they served a cappuccino and if they had chocolate milk. I asked if they were out and he said he just doesn't know. We were never asked for refills on drinks and after taking 25 minutes for our french toast, the food was served cold. I would not stay here again based off of how expensive it was, the state of the age of the hotel rooms and the dining experience

I’ve stayed at Danfords a few times in the past, as it is pretty much a “must stay” place in the village of Port Jefferson and the location is unbeatable. Our room (E2) was quite noisy, both from the street and from people walking along the balcony outside our room talking loudly, but I don’t think there’s much you can do about that, other than request to stay in a different part of the hotel. The room itself was nice enough, but the side of the room where the TV/fridge and coffee maker are had no lighting and the lighting in the room overall was very poor. The bathroom was small but nice, but the sink top area is way too small and there is no room anywhere else to put your toiletries. Shower flow was very hard, using way too much water per minute-definitely not ecofriendly. The beds were hard. Although there was a coffee station in the hotel lobby, it was disappointing that this was one of the few hotels with no breakfast. Fortunately there are some places close by where you can get breakfast, but for the price of this hotel, it should be included. There was an extra “resort fee” of $33.10 payable at hotel (we didn’t have this at other hotels), which includes things that are already free at most other hotels (internet, coffee maker in room, bottled water in room, 800 and local calls (not really needed anyway when everyone uses cellphones!), use of business center (not needed by non-business travelers), parking and TV (although the free TV channels were very few).

Great room with an amazing view.

Very quaint hotel on the marina and location is perfect for what we were visiting for. Staff are all so lovely and pleasant-so were other guests. Room was very spacious and WiFi was free and easy to connect to. Bathroom in our building requires some TLC. Other than the. Bathroom, everything was spot on

Great location on the water and the area was very walkable with lots of shops and dining choices. The staff made great suggestions on dining options and area attractions. Thanks to the person who checked us in for the excellent suggestion of a nearby small town! The hotel bed was comfortable. The room was clean but very noisy. The toilet made loud noises every half hour and the air conditioner was extremely loud

It's taken me 30 years to stay at this hotel, and I really enjoyed my stay. This is a gem of a hotel, romantic, cute, and so well located. My 2 queen bed room was very large on the first floor with a bathtub, which was most appreciated. The staff was very nice. A wonderful stay.

The front desk staff were incredibly friendly and had a wonderful attitude. I truly enjoyed my stay and I’m eager to return soon!

Staff was extraordinarily rude at check in. When got it the room, it was dirty and not made up. The staff was rude again when told.

We arrived after a 4 hour drive to a nasty and extremely unaccommodating front desk person named Jamie. I booked 2 rooms 6-weeks prior to our arrival, requested the rooms be near one another, I was told by the booking agent that wasn’t a problem, as they had 9 rooms available. I called back 2 weeks prior to our arrival to confirm the booking, was told it was noted and not a problem. We were given a first floor parking lot view Jamie called “a village view”, and a second floor street view. Went back to the desk to try to change the parking lot view again and had another person help us and managed to get us a 3 rd floor parking lot view. After over an hour of standing at the desk and going back and forth with the other agent, we managed to get 2 rooms on the same floor! How when we were told all the rooms were booked? How, because Jamie is a nasty person who seems to enjoy making comments under her breath and lying to customers faces about rooms being occupied that were empty. Other problems, the restaurant food was inedible ( but I must mention that the server Alexa, and the manager were amazing. The sheets were like sandpaper, and the noise of the Main Street may be a problem for some. A warning that the Ferry horn starts at 7am on Saturday would be good. PS they stole my mothers phone charger out of the room as we were changing rooms.

I got to the hotel before check-in time, but was able to get my room right away. Check-in was fast and the person was very friendly. Room was clean and everything was as expected.

We were very lucky to have met Darleen when checking in. She noticed I was struggling with my bags and my 6 year old so she gave me a room on the 1st floor and got me a young man named Chris to help me with my bags to my room. It’s kindness like this that goes a long way. Everyone at Danfords was lovely and the food at the restaurant was lovely. We will definitely be back !

Friendly front desk and showed us exactly where our building was

The room had a broken refrigerator, we called the desk 3x. The bozo at the front desk never called maintenance. They only gave 2 coffee pods. No tea no hot chocolate. It also stated it had a microwave in the room on Danfords websites It does not. So after paying 500.00 for meals, you can't reheat in the room. Also the Bozo at the desk gave me a key card and she wrote "BB" for the room, no BB so we called the desk and she just laughed at herself. It was B3, nothing like carrying our luggage up and down 3 flights of stairs looking for our room. Wasting our time for a working refrigerator. They really need to get a better staff

While the marina was nice and the town was beautitul, the service when I arrived was awful. The parking situation was chaotic / no spaces available and I had to park 10 min walk away and carry all my bags to hotel. The doorframe of room they provided was dingy and the rubber seal around the door was weathered and broken. The locking mechanism on the door was so damaged that I could only close the door with a deadbolt. I can't believe the cost of the room for the backwater quality recieved. Would never stay again.

I want a refund for my first night's stay ! The room provided was not ADA compliant, far from it. The hotel advertises it is. The AC was loud and did not permit me to sleep. The room was in need of repairs too. They accommodated a room change on the second night, which was only 'acceptable'. Again, it was not ADA compliant. I want a refund for my fist night !!!

Wonderful stay and service was top notch

Right at the Ferry & Marina....Many shops and places to eat and shop in the main village a few steps away.

The fact that it is by the water

Location perfect for Port Jeff. Room was large and comfortable. Balcony with chairs, also large, overlooking harbor. Free easy parking that also allows free parking in Town. Fireplace going in lobby.

Location to Ferry. Close to activities in town. Always nice to be near the water.

perfect location in port jefferson right at the harbor

Great location and nice room, but it was SO noisy. Even at 730am in the morning there was a street cleaner or leaf blower or something.

Pleased to be able to check in a bit early, after a long car ride. Disappointed that the dining room was closed, and the morning breakfast in the lobby was coffee only, not even a piece of toast! Also, the coffee in the room was terrible - not sure why? Otherwise very nice. Beds were super comfy and the decor is very attractive. Price was reasonable. Staff were friendly. Location is the main draw, along with the historic appeal of this iconic hotel.

A lovely Hotel, clean with a very comfortable bed and great linens! And the Restaurant “Black Pearl” had great food and service. We needed to stay in the area for a family event and so glad we chose this hotel. Worth the price, truly pleasurable.

Our only complaint was the continental breakfast. That was very disappointing.

We had a wonderful stay at Danfords! Large rooms with a balcony. Very comfortable bed. We ate three meals at the restaurant Black pearl - and they were very good! Pretty views on the harbor and near shopping and a park.

Love this place. The new bar and restaurant is fantastic… pricey but great! Rooms are clean, quiet and staff is great!

The rooms were very clean, the staff was great. The last time we were staying here Danfords actually owns the bar and restaurant and it has now been taken over by another company and the variety of options on the menu and the quality of food is much better. Also, the staff that work at the restaurant in the were awesome. Very friendly, very attentive.

Hotel staff were helpful and pleasant. The room was clean and nicely decorated. Location was very convenient. The restaurant was not great. Service was slow, food was okay and a bit pricey for what is was - next time I would find somewhere else to dine.
