Historic hotel overlooking Riverview and beautiful waterfall. 100 plus year old facility with a unique old elevator serviced by a staff member. Very different and cool. Great patio for drinks in the evening and great grounds. Staff very helpful and friendly. Good value for a step back in history

Beautiful property and views at the hotel and spa services were great! We were able to extend checkout until after massage services ended!

Live music was a nice way to spend the evening.

OLD WORLD CHARM ANTIQUE ELEVATOR

Gorgeous property with relaxing gardens, river views, a waterfall and stream running through the property with stone bridges. There is Bocci Ball and horseshoes to play in the gardens as well. The interior has a beautiful art nouveau style and the restaurant had good food and staff, overlooking river. I didn’t have time to take advantage of the spa that is there, but will definitely go back for that!!

This is a fun older hotel. Our room was good but nothing fancy. They had an elevator and it was operated by an individual due to the era it was built. The outside area was nice with pounds, plants, ducks and a waterfall. It had great views of the Columbia River

The property was gorgeous as was the building itself. The only downfall - no elevator. With two dogs and luggage it gets a bit tiring going up 3 flights of stairs.

Beautiful hotel with lots of character. Very clean. The grounds were amazing- gardens, waterfall, sitting areas- all well taken care of, even in October. Gorgeous view of the river. We appreciated the uniqueness of the hotel, which included the historic elevator, glass doorknobs, louvered doors at our room entrance. The only difficulty we experienced was when we tried to get our ice bucket filled. This had to be done at the check-in area, and with a staff member. We had to look everywhere for an employee and finally found someone in the restaurant to help out. A minor quirk to a pleasant stay.

Stately old building mostly beautiful gardens. Need more staff. And please loose the old bad carpets, dust. But bathrooms were very nice and clean . Staff was very pleasant.

We had a beautiful clean spacious quiet corner room on the third floor overlooking the Columbia River and the little stream. There is a little fridge to keep things cool. Staff couldn’t be nicer and more helpful. We will definitely be back!

Beautiful place very clean updated

Hotel is in dire need of a revamp. Too many questionable design choices. Carpeting on stairs is dizzying and wallpaper on walls even more dizzying. Room had a musty odor. And why the $16.99 grounds fee?

Gorgeous property butc very disappointed because the property smelled musty the moment we stepped into the lobby. We’re all sensitive to mold and had headaches the entire time we were there. They turned the lobby lights out at night. I had to go out to the car before 11 pm and going into the lobby from the stairs was creepy in the half lit area, coupled with the fact that the front doors had no locks and no one at the front desk (visible) made me feel uncomfortable.

Loved the age and history of the property. Rooms very clean and nice. The restaurant on the site made very relaxing.

We arrived and found that the bedding was dirty and looked like it hadn’t been changed. Spoke with front desk who than brought us clean bedding that we had to change ourselves. Poor customer service and very unexpected with the cost of the place. I expected better!

The area is beautiful. The only negative is that because of the age of the building it has a musty smell. Its a bit strong and hard to get passed it.

The hotel is in a lovely spot overlooking the river. Unfortunately our room was on the highway side (which they describe as garden view), so was quite noisy from the highway traffic. The room was small but pleasant and the staff was very friendly. One major quirk is that there is only one elevator and it must be operated by a staff member. There are no ground floor rooms, so if you have mobility issues and don't want to have to call for the elevator every time you want to come and go from your room, this is not the hotel for you.

Enjoyed the historical feeling, and the views of the Columbia River are outstanding. The restaurant and bar were great. Disappointed that we were given the noisiest room in the place, next to the elevator.

The hotel was built in 1921, so it has a charm and style of an older design, with a nice interior including a lounge inside near the front desk. There is also a restaurant in the hotel building, which is a convenient place to get something to eat. The restaurant also provides room service. The room we stayed in was clean, and windows can be opened for fresh air, although road noise from I-84 could be heard from inside our room. Since it's an older hotel, you can see where some of what looks like older infrastructure (such as visible pipes in the closet, etc.), things appeared to be remodeled, such as conduits along some of the walls going to some power outlets, etc. It has its charm. The bathroom was modern, looking like it had been remodeled relatively recently compared to the overall building. Also, the room where we stayed had a refrigerator, but we had to look for it before realizing the refrigerator was in the closet. Also, the hotel is located conveniently near I-84.

Our stay was next to Amazing. We really enjoyed everything that the establishment was trying to offer. The walls however are very thin and all others can be heard. Overall a great experience though. Thank you.

At check-in, the front desk staff was unfriendly, rushed through the rules, and became irritated when asked questions. A dinner reservation made at the front desk never reached the dining room. The elevator is only operated by hard to find staff, so we used the stairs. When checking out with baggage we had to wait over 10 minutes for the staff to come. The elevator stopped several inches below the floor and the staff was aggravated when asked to move it closer. Room amenities were poor. No ice machine, no bureau for clothes, and only one bedside table. Our “river view” was just a small window with the view blocked by trees. The entry and bathroom doors opened directly next to the bed. The TV was placed over the desk, making both uncomfortable to use. Internet was essentially unusable, with a download speed of only 3 Mbps. Dining was another low point. Staff appeared untrained, could not assist with wine selection, and the waiter who took our order never returned. Soups and salads were excellent, but entrées were average at best—filet mignon was poor. Very thin, slippery napkins were impractical. At checkout, the bill was much higher than quoted on Expedia. Taxes were added despite being advertised as included, and a $40 “Hospitality & Grounds Fee” appeared without prior disclosure on Expedia or at check-in. Over $1,000 for a 2 day disappointing stay.

The view on the River side was gorgeous! It was a bit noisy with music from outside playing from early morning till late evening in our room. Internet works in hallway and most areas, but not in the room.

This place is spectacular. I was not expecting the rooms to be as modern and comfortable as they are. The grounds and location right on the river are beautiful. I couldn’t pass up a ride on the attended 100+year old elevator when I first arrived even though I had only one floor to ascend. I really hope I can return for a longer stay.

Would recommend reserving a room on the view side which is stunning. The garden view is next to noisy highway.

noisy if near back of hotel the back on river side .room 317 there is some kind of unit under wood that runs every 20 min loud and annoying. would have liked to hear the falls since we were on that side. but could not due to the noise of the unit running. had keep window closed .. overall front desk is not freindly at all. but bartender was great!

Highly recommend Columbia Gorge Hotel and Spa! Donna was very helpful when we checked in. Staff very friendly.

Have enjoyed our stays in the past. Although, this trip was disappointing. Michal,(an older lady that was servicing the brunch on Sunday was horrible!). In fact there were two servers that morning who are in desperate need of customer service training. The manager of the hotel, Alp, need help in that same area The hotel is absolutely breathtaking. These three individuals need to go!

The outside setting was beautiful. Except for the fact that they were cleaning the roof and you could not use the deck. I realize that needs to be done, but it would have been nice to know it was happening during our stay. It was one of the things we enjoy the most, to sit out side and view the river. When we arrived we were told that we were upgraded to a river view. Great! The room was spacious and nice, until we tried to take a shower and the handle came off. They were unable to fix it. I understand things like this can happen, but we're told that we would need to change rooms to a garden view as that was all they had left, fine. The problem was the attitude that the staff had. There was no sorry about that or any type of compensation. The room was probably the worse one on the property. It was a view of the fire escape. It must have backup to the boiler room as the lights on the wall rattled all night, we ended up taking the off the wall. Bathroom sink was always backed up. The front staff could care less. There was never a how was you stay or even a thank you for coming. I thought maybe it was us, but I watched and that was how they treated many of the guests. A guest let them know the water cooler was out and the staff member rolled their eyes and sighed. Needless to say we will not be staying at the hotel again. I suggest that they have a little training for their staff in customer service.

The staff was friendly and super helpful even after I made a mistake on my booking.

These comments are elaborating on the questions asked above. The hotel grounds are amazing and so scenic. And very well kept up, considering the age. We had a great time walking around the grounds in the morning. Since a question asks this, the location is a bit isolated from other services, but that was not an issue for us. Re: staff. We had to wait for staff a couple of times - for the front desk at check-in, and we waited quite a while for staff to appear at the restaurant, both in the evening and in the morning. On the other hand, a staff person making up the rooms upstairs went out of his way to share more about the history of the place with us, which was much appreciated.

It is a beautiful setting but the management of the property is showing signs of fatigue. Sink doesn’t drain. Bathroom door is sagging and rubs. Garbage by the bocce ball court there for 3 days. And the list goes on. Most of the staff lack energy and engagement.

Property was absolutely beautiful! Staff, with the exception of John the bartender was a 2. Maybe they are short staffed, but service was horrible from the room service to the front desk. They need an overhaul on staff.

Columbia Gorge Resort and Spa is a gorgeous hotel. The gardens are unbelievable amazing! So many different flowers,  multiple streams, run through the property, along with several white wooden swings and chair settings. Rock formations to climb, a bocce court and horshoes. You can sit at a table or a bar outside, have a glass of wine overlooking the beautiful Columbia river and listen to the waterfall. There are oodles of ducks and beautiful birds to watch. The most exquisite grounds of any hotel that I’ve ever stayed at. Our room, 219 also had a fabulous view of the waterfall, river and mountains. The windows opened so we enjoyed the sound of the falls. Our king bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was very nice and clean as well. The hotel was close to the scenic drive to view the Multnomah Falls as well as multiple other falls along Highway 30. Driving along 84 the views of the Columbia Gorge were gorgeous. Highly recommend at least a two night stay!

This hotel is old but very well redone. The beds were super comfortable and it’s an ideal location for your Columbia Gorge hikes.

Gorgeous hotel with lots of history (100 years). Beautiful location right on the Columbia River and close to Hood River downtown. Room was spacious, restaurant was excellent (only ate breakfast), and hotel grounds were beautiful. I will definitely stay there again. (Hint: Book directly with the hotel. Orbitz charged an extra $20 fee).

Nice location on the river. Multiple restraunts within walking distance. Nice 5 mile walking path along the river.

What a great experience!!! The bar was great. Extremely attendant bartender, waiter, jack-of-all trades Timothy was so accommodating that he made the entire experience very special for my wife and I.

We loved our stay at the Columbia Gorge Hotel. Lovely, well-maintained, charming vintage place with beautiful views. I wish the food in the dining room would have been better and the menu more varied. I sent back several dishes that were badly prepared. We would return and have breakfast and lunch there but dinner out.

The hotel, staff, and location are excellent. But they do need an improvement on the food that they serve in their restaurant.

This is a lovely hotel! The views of the gorge and waterfall are beautiful. The grounds are beautiful and they even have a bocce ball court. The interior of the hotel is gorgeous, the remodel is delightful. The beds are comfortable and the bathroom was great. The double Queen rooms are not huge but that’s because it was built 100 years ago. We ate dinner in the restaurant with a view of the gorge. The seafood pasta and cheesecake were delicious and the staff was kind and attentive. We will definitely stay here again.

Hotel grounds are peaceful and well maintained. Nice gardens to walk through and a great view of the Colombia River from in the back. Hotel is in good shape for being so old, and was surprisingly quiet inside. Room was comfortable except for the air conditioning - you couldn't redirect the air so if you were on that side of the bed it blew right on you, and it was hot if the AC wasn't on, so that was the main problem with the room comfort. The restaurant was definitely overrated - don't get the overpriced steaks. We asked for medium plus and got medium rare the first time, then well done the second.

Our favorite place to stay in Hood River! Wonderful accommodations, beautiful decor and awesome restaurant and lounge.
