The lodge is set in the woods, with many areas to sit outside and enjoy the surroundings. We stayed in a building a short walking distance from the main lodge. The lodge and buildings are rustic, which adds to the charm. The room was clean, with ample space inside. A Keurig coffee maker and refrigerator were included in the room. Both the taproom and the dining room were good, with a few choices of food and drinks at a usual price point. They also have a Starbucks in the common area. We would happily stay again if in the area.

First, I really enjoyed spending time at the park and having time to participate in day and night activities. I was aware that there was no air conditioning. Thankfully, I took a battery-operated fan for this trip. There was no ceiling fan. Also, the power was out for some of our stay, the Wi-Fi was out most of the time. On my last day, I found out there had been a problem with the power for two weeks. This was not communicated me. I regularly camp, so fortunately, I had stuff in my trunk like lights, cook system, solar batteries, and etc to make my family comfortable.

The lodge was a neat vintage building. Great brews in the lower level and great view of the valley. Bar food really very good. The food at the restaurant upstairs was decent. Amazing place to watch the sunset from the rocking chairs and balcony. And the only place we could get wifi. Our room was very rustic. No A/C, no cell service. It was clean enough - felt like we were camping. The location was great though!

Beautiful but very rustic. If you are looking for a hotel experience this is more like a cabin. We loved it and would stay again without hesitation, but you should know this going in. Food was fantastic. No cell service and the WiFi does not work well except for in the main lodge. Be aware of that going in.

Took an impromptu trip with my husband for the weekend and while on Skyline Drive we were fortunate that Big Meadows had some vacancies. Absolutely loved the lodge. Room was wonderful and the staff was exceptional nice. The property was great for hiking and enjoying nature. We encountered a lot of deer and chipmunks around the lodge which we enjoyed watching. The on site restaurant and store was nice. This was our first stay at Big Meadows and we will definitely stay there again!

The property is in an excellent location and has many facilities including ranger led programs that's great for kids. Staff was very friendly and provided detailed information on any requests/questions. We went on early morning hikes and saw deer running around our cabins. Night star gazing was an excellent activity that we enjoyed as a family. Would love to go back to this property again - thoroughly enjoyed our stay

Room was clean and spacious as was the bathroom. The ceiling fan worked well and even in summer heat it was very cool for sleeping. Just behind the lodge is a short hike to a gorgeous overlook. The food at the restaurant on site was delicious and all staff were friendly and competent. I'll return for sure!

Our stay was wonderful. The staff were very friendly, rooms were no frills and a bit rustic, but very clean. Bring a map and flashlight if you go out exploring after dark as there is no cell service and the area is dimly lit. Beautiful views in the morning and great dining.

Cleanliness of the room was iffy. Keurig and some lamps didn't work. Bedding was super basic. Facilities are older, so some of that is expected, but service was slow, and for sure could have been cleaner. Keurig in room didn't work, went to front (reception area), water had run out (was empty). Overall an amazing location, and staff was slim but adequate and friendly.

This was one of the most disappointing stays we’ve ever had. The room was very dirty and looked nothing like the photos online, aside from having four walls, a TV, and a bed. The mattress was extremely thin, to the point that you could tell the bed frame was built for a normal one. Comfort was clearly not a priority. We had reserved a handicap-accessible room, and while it did have a roll-in shower, it was located nearly as far from the parking lot as possible. We arrived at sunset, and I had to use a flashlight to safely find a path for my wife, who sometimes has difficulty walking. When I raised this with the front desk, they seemed sympathetic but told me the only other available unit had sloped paths and stairs with no handrails, making it even less accessible. To make matters worse, we found a millipede or centipede in the shower in the morning, which was the final straw, so we didn’t even bathe before leaving. The only reason we stayed the night was because the nearest hotel was 50 miles away, and we were in the mountains during fog and rain. We literally felt like we were trapped there. Definitely would never stay here again and cannot recommend it to anyone, especially those with accessibility needs.

We stayed in one of the buildings near the lodge. They charged $259 for a Saturday night in mid May for a room that had cobwebs behind both beds. The door to the room was peeling from the bottom from obvious water damage. We had millipeds on the floors. The building is really old and musty and the weather stripping is not sufficient to keep the critters out. They shouldn't be charging that price for a room like this. I get paying more for the location, but this was not worth it.

Avoid it! It is a pity that being located in a wonderful location the logging is so disapointing: - not clean, I found underwater from previous guest in my room! - it takes over an hour to get a table at the restaurant and when you are finally seated, they treat you so badly. Waiters are understaffed and that makes the personnel too stressed and too mean. We’ll never come back,

You don’t stay at Big Meadows for the creature comforts, you stay at the lodge because it’s beautiful, you’re surrounded by nature, you want easy access to hiking, or maybe you’re through hiking and this is your one night in a bed for a long time (😂) That said, the bed was loud but comfy. TV, fridge, and coffee maker are all nice touches. Our room had an excellent view of the sunset and two comfy chairs to sit on the patio to watch.

You don't need to visit multiple overlooks in the skyline drive if you stay here. Easy 5 min hike of Black Rock trail on premise will be sufficient. It truly was a hidden gem for fantastic view! There was no air conditioner but a portable fan in my room. It wasn't super hot in July but a ceiling fan would have been nice.

Amazing location with views over the mountains. They have a very short walk up to the rocks where you can see the sunset over the mountains. Restaurant was good with a reasonable amount to offer. The common area has a lovely big fireplace and lots of jigsaws and games to fill the time. The cabin we stayed in was a bit tatty but was fitting with the mountain vibe. The walls were paper thin though so if you get noisy neighbours then you arent getting a good nights sleep.

This is an older property. That is not necessarily bad but it looks a little worn. There is some renovation going on so they may be trying ti improve that. We were surprised to find no air conditioning in the room. The temperatures were 100 degrees with high humidity in July when we were there. Water pressure was very low. It was difficult to take a shower. The beds were lumpy. The view out the window from our room was just woods and not particularly attractive. Not the mountain vista you see in the advertisements. Altogether a surprising visit and not int a good way. I could have stayed at a Motel 6 at half the price and had a better stay.

Room had an expired fire extinguisher (over a year!). 3 screws were sticking up on threshold. Total safety hazard. Ceiling has water damage San Quentin style bathroom (broken sink light, holes in the concrete walls, no hot water, broken shower spout, no arrows for water temp) Unreliable Wi-Fi in the rooms Nightlight from Wi-Fi glare Bad outlets: several did not work. Perfect for a weekend get away! Friendly staff. On site restaurant was perfect. The menu really accommodates everyone and the servings size is huge!! We booked two rooms. One room was on the ground floor where the air conditioner from above leaked down making it impossible to sit on the 'porch' area in front of the room. It was not in front of thr door so only a minor inconvenience. The beds were too soft in one room and too hard in the other (probably should have swapped rooms with our friends). All in all, would stay again.

The staff are amazing, friendly and customer focused. The room was okay. It was as expected for a lodge in a national park. The walls are very thin. We could hear conversations and snoring of our neighbors. The bathroom was very small. Keep in mind that there is no tv. We had service throughout most of park so not an issue if you have a smart phone. The lodge is nice and rustic with a tap room and restaurant. I wouldn’t get the carbonara at the restaurant but the service is excellent. There’s also a coffee shop. The visitor center and a gas station are nearby. For a cheaper meal they do have good food at the grill inside gas station. If you’re trying to stay somewhere in the park it can be worth the stay.

Amazing!!!! First experience at Shenandoah and Wow! The biggest bonus besides Mother Nature is that the staff is insane wonderful!!! Above and beyond! Big shout out to Karen at the front desk! John who handles the wood supply .. and all wait staff!!!! The park rangers are also so helpful for all hikes and information!
Amazing!!!! First experience at Shenandoah and Wow! The biggest bonus besides Mother Nature is that the staff is insane wonderful!!! Above and beyond! Big shout out to Karen at the front desk! John who handles the wood supply .. and all wait staff!!!! The park rangers are also so helpful for all hikes and information!

When we arrived we asked if there was a vacancy and were told by the clerk that yes, there were plenty of rooms available (two queen beds) as we were a family of four. We went downstairs to eat dinner and booked our room online, paid for it and it was confirmed. After dinner we tried to check in and now the same clerk told us there were no rooms available. We asked if we could get something in writing stating that he never checked us in so we could get our money back and he said his printer had no ink. We then asked him to email us instead and he said he did. We checked our email and what he sent us stated that we were confirmed and checked in. We questioned him about this after realizing he was lying and the exchange got very heated with shouting, swearing and a huge scene. In all my decades of traveling in the US and abroad, I have never experienced this! It was extremely bizarre and we literally felt like the guy ripped us off for nearly $200. It was 9:30 at night at this point and our family had to drive 30 miles outside of the national park to find lodging for the night.

We liked that it was in the National Park. Staff was amazing and really accommodating. We arrived during a power outage and they were still completely friendly, helpful and professional.

We had a great stay at Big Meadows lodge. Staff was helpful and the rooms were nice and tidy. Good that you could have something to eat at the pub and nice with some live music (Lisbeth and Casey)!

Very convenient place to stay. Not the most updated but clean and quiet. Food was good and again, convenient. Friendly staff and lovely views. Close to the ranger station and easy to go see the stars over Big Meadows at night.

Mountain views and quick access to hiking trails. Having dining options on location was a big plus as was the ability to have your dog with you! Food was a little hit or miss but I had an excellent trout dinner and a burger for lunch, both outstanding. My husband had the cobb salad at lunch which was also very good. The rooms were clean but a bit dated, which was as expected at an historic lodge.

Amazing location with views over the mountains. They have a very short walk up to the rocks where you can see the sunset over the mountains. Restaurant was good with a reasonable amount to offer. The common area has a lovely big fireplace and lots of jigsaws and games to fill the time. The cabin we stayed in was a bit tatty but was fitting with the mountain vibe. The walls were paper thin though so if you get noisy neighbours then you arent getting a good nights sleep.

Big Meadows Lodge is in a fantastic setting in Shenandoah. The staff were friendly and helpful. It is not luxurious but very comfortable and clean. The room was nice but old and not well cleaned. This however is made up by the spectacular view from our room overlooking the valley. However, one thing we definitely didn't like was the restautant; our dinner was very overpriced and the food very bland. I would not recommend eating in the lodge restaurant.

The staff and everyone was incredibly helpful, the food in the dining room was delicious for all 3 meals, our room was cozy and comfortable, a great stay all around. Only complaint is the small shower head, but that’s ok, it was still an amazing stay, and I will definitely be returning in the future.

The food was excellent--well prepared, surprisingly large quantities and a good selection of options. Unfortunately, the main dining room was quite cool in the evening which meant that I did not enjoy the meal as much as I could have. I noted that the overhead fans were going full force and there was no fire in the fireplace while the outside temperatures were dropping into the 50's and 40's rapidly. Staff in the dining hall and check in were friendly and efficient--a real plus.

Nice woke us up twice during the middle of the night. One was snacking and opened up our trail mix. And another one got caught in our garbage can and then was making all kinds of noise in the middle of the night.

Some rooms have a/c, some don’t. Ours didn’t. It was cool enough at night with windows open, but took a while to cool off with fan. Overall a nice facility and good location in the park. Didn’t have to leave the park and drive 35-50 miles one way to find a place to stay, then drive back the next day.

It was nice to see the sunset along with family. The park was too good to spend timeout. Staying in this hotel was the right choice as I was traveling from far. Room was neat and clean, as it is inside forest be aware of some insects to enter as guests :). We experienced it but it was ok.
