The description on the Expedia website was inaccurate prior to making the booking. I would not have made the booking if I had known that the bathrooms/ toilet facilities were not private. I made a reservation for my partner and myself to go to a room complete with "private" bathroom and "toilet" as part of a romantic weekend . This was ruined as we found we had taken up accommodation in a hostel where one bathroom / toilet was shared between 403 [ our room] , 401 and 402. One of the managers was informed I wanted to make a formal complaint on the Saturday and then they mentioned they would try to offer an upgrade. In the end they never got back to me. We found pubic hairs on the floor of our guest room., the bed was far too hard to sleep on comfortably and we were initially were requested to make a deposit of £40 for the keys as a deposit. When I made enquires prior to the City Gate, I was informed about none of this. The experience of this hotel [ aca hostel] ruined our romantic weekend and in the end we had to leave on the Saturday as the whole experience was too dreadful

No proper bathroom facility. Guy suggested that a working guy would sleep in our kitchen. He wasn’t gonna bodder us. We rejected but redicoulous that he suggested this

The bed was very bad, the radiator was not working, there was very little hot water to take a shower, the fountains smelled very bad and bad, the hotel is in serious need of repair, it is not a suitable place for families and children. And it is very expensive, I paid €319 for 4 nights, but for this money you can stay in a nicer and more comfortable place. I definitely do not recommend it. But I would like to thank Ms. Nese very much, because she tried to help as much as she could.

The rooms are small, the internet is shocking, Tv doesn't work. The floorboards are so loud that anytime anybody moves you can hear it, the walls are paper thin. No sinks for water. Would not stay again.

Nicht zu empfehlen. Wände waren dünn wie Papier, sodass man sogar die Nachbarn vom Ende des Flures aus dem Zimmer hören konnte. Gemeinschaftsbadezimmer wurde nicht regelmäßig gereinigt und sehr unhygienisch benutzt. Rezeption nicht 24/7 wie versprochen erreichbar und nur tagsüber vor Ort gewesen. Türen waren nicht komplett zum Boden und nicht so stabil gewesen. Allerdings war das Hotel relativ zentral und war mit den öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln gut zu erreichen. ——— Not recommended. We stayed at this property for one night, we were told upon arrival that we would need to pay £25 for a key, nowhere in the booking policy or email was this specified, when I contacted the property prior to our stay with additional queries my messages were not responded to. Managers/bosses need to do better. The shower pressure was terrible, we literally had three drops of water from the shower head which was super annoying. A positive - thankyou to the guy who supported us with our stay who had only been working there for three days, was very patient with us and did his utmost to help with our frustrations.

Wish I could have given a better review. We messaged the property we would be arriving late. The night time receptionist should have met us at the door but no one was there. It’s cold in London and thankfully one of the guests let us into the building around 1am. We called and messaged for about an hour until someone finally came. While we waited we began looking for other last minute hotels or being forced to sleep in the lobby. While waiting for the reception inside the lobby someone barged through the door (not a guest of the location) also looking for a room then left. Not the best security system, the room is average, the street noise is loud and we will not be back.

Stayed at city gates hotel last night big thank u to staff member who made my stay a special one even though I was late arriving and struggled to find the place she explained everything to me so I understood Nice room nice bed nice and very clean nothing was to much trouble so after having bad experience at Amsterdam hotel last month nice and refreshing no one lying to u is a pleasant surprise

The place is basic and clean. The WiFi never worked once during my two-night stay (signal was fine and could connect but there was no internet). No one in the lobby to help fix it. Bed left my back sore. It was fairly quiet but the walls are thin and I could hear other guests.

Lovely stay. Got a nice room with balcony on the 4th floor and views over London. The staff was friendly. I would recommend this place for staying a few days. It's located close to Stepney Green tube station and there are a few nice restaurants nearby as well as a couple of supermarkets (Sainsbury's and Tesco). I think this place offers good value for money.

The place is basic and clean. The WiFi never worked once during my two-night stay (signal was fine and could connect but there was no internet). No one in the lobby to help fix it. Bed left my back sore. It was fairly quiet but the walls are thin and I could hear other guests.

Generally good, Good basic, no frills accommodation. If that is what you want, then that is what you will get.Host very helpful and friendly. Allowed me to book in early with no extra charge, which was most appreciated.

My girlfriend and I visited this hotel just for a place to stay overnight after we had watched the cigarettes after sex concert, We arrived over an hour and a half early, in which case we contacted the location to see about checking in early, when we arrived, we were immediately greeted to a warm welcome. We were asked to stay in the lobby just whilst they checked if our rooms coudl be situated for the early checking, during this time we sat and stayed in the chairs in the lobby. It is a small lobby but is quite cozy. Once the staff were back, they allowed us to check in early, they didn’t even charge us an early checking fee. We spoke in the elevator to a member of staff, who asked us how our travels had been and what brought us to london. After this we were brought to our room, it was a nice cozy room, featuring a television, wardrobe, table and chair and a nightstand by the double bed. There were free complimentary tea and coffees, including biscuits. The room was a very nice room overall, The only concerns being that there were no plug sockets near the bed, which isn’t a deal breaker but means to charge your phone you either need a long cable or to leave it on the floor. The two other concerns were a hole in the wall, which i suspect was caused by a previous guest, and the lock to the door being very inconvenient, as the lock would get stuck so you would have to apply some force to the door to lock it. Aside from these things, i think the room was great!

Stay was good , area is average, . City Gate Guest House , they are good at taking moneyfor stay . But they ask for a deposit on the day , and say they will refund you . But ater a week now still no REFUND, Very poor beware .

We stayed here qhile coming to a concert so needed somewhere just to leave our belongings and sleeo for the night. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and had a 24 hour call service if there were any problems. Was about a 5 minute walk to the closet train station, tube station and bus stop so very easy to comunte anywhere. Will most definitely be staying here again :)

The description on the Expedia website was inaccurate prior to making the booking. I would not have made the booking if I had known that the bathrooms/ toilet facilities were not private. I made a reservation for my partner and myself to go to a room complete with "private" bathroom and "toilet" as part of a romantic weekend . This was ruined as we found we had taken up accommodation in a hostel where one bathroom / toilet was shared between 403 [ our room] , 401 and 402. One of the managers was informed I wanted to make a formal complaint on the Saturday and then they mentioned they would try to offer an upgrade. In the end they never got back to me. We found pubic hairs on the floor of our guest room., the bed was far too hard to sleep on comfortably and we were initially were requested to make a deposit of £40 for the keys as a deposit. When I made enquires prior to the City Gate, I was informed about none of this. The experience of this hotel [ aca hostel] ruined our romantic weekend and in the end we had to leave on the Saturday as the whole experience was too dreadful

Stayed at city gates hotel last night big thank u to staff member who made my stay a special one even though I was late arriving and struggled to find the place she explained everything to me so I understood Nice room nice bed nice and very clean nothing was to much trouble so after having bad experience at Amsterdam hotel last month nice and refreshing no one lying to u is a pleasant surprise

We stayed at this property for one night, we were told upon arrival that we would need to pay £25 for a key, nowhere in the booking policy or email was this specified, when I contacted the property prior to our stay with additional queries my messages were not responded to. Managers/bosses need to do better. The shower pressure was terrible, we literally had three drops of water from the shower head which was super annoying. A positive - thankyou to the guy who supported us with our stay who had only been working there for three days, was very patient with us and did his utmost to help with our frustrations.

It’s cold in London and thankfully one of the guests let us into the building around 1am. We called and messaged for about an hour until someone finally came. Lovely stay. Got a nice room with balcony on the 4th floor and views over London. The staff was friendly. I would recommend this place for staying a few days. It's located close to Stepney Green tube station and there are a few nice restaurants nearby as well as a couple of supermarkets (Sainsbury's and Tesco). I think this place offers good value for money.

I love staying here for my two weeks day. It felt like home the staff was very friendly. It was very convenient and it had a lot of shops and places to eat nearby, and it was close to the train station that led directly to the city less than 20 minutes one thing I didn’t like was the fact that it was nonrefundable I understand that it could be not be refundable up to one day, but I booked 12 days and they didn’t want to refund the rest of the trip because initially I wanted to stay closer to city. But it was worth it at the end. The hotel should relook into its refund policy

The guy on the front (makeshift) desk could not have done enough for us - thank you. The lift worked, which was a bonus but the communal washing facilities and toilet was an unexpected treat. The room was like my Nans spare box room but worse. For nearly £200 in London I guess I set my expectations too high. If your looking for a place to chuck your bags in, get tipsy and not expect too much, this is your place. Lastly I'd like to thank the person who took the photos of the place that made me book a night's stay. Your a legend and those who own the place are profiting from your amazing artistic work.
