The hotel was comfortable, with a newly refurbished feel to the decor and had a fantastic view of the gorge. However the pub onsite meant that all the tables on the terrace were taken and the hotel had no reserved guest area. Our original room on the 1st floor unfortunately gave the “pub” customers a clear view into the room and the music could be heard clearly. Therefore it felt like we were staying in a pub, not a hotel du vin. The bar drinks menu was extensive but we weren’t aware of that when getting a drink outside. The receptionist that offered us another room was helpful showing the alternative location. The bar staff in the evening was a wonderful young lady and the breakfast staff welcoming. Breakfast was exceptional. Having previously mystery shopped this group, maybe I’m overly critical. But having stayed in the groups other venues as a paying customer, I felt the pub aspect took away the exclusivity. A reserved hotel area on the terrace would have avoided this, understandably the pub brings in much needed revenue and by the queue to get in is popular. Clifton is a vibrant area and easily walkable.

The hotel staff were very helpful and nothing was too much. Bed was very comfortable and clean would definitely go back . We had great food in the bar and wasn’t expensive and came quickly but as for the bar staff they were very slow on there phones and there was a queue always so you were 10/15 minutes getting a drink. It was quicker to go to the small hotel bar but other than that had a fantastic stay and look forward to going back

Great Hotel professional and helpful staff. Quick and easy check in and out. Help with parking locally. The rooms were traditional yet modern, the bathrooms wonderful and luxurious. Beds very comfortable. The only tiny thing is that the hotel bar is not well staffed - while not a big deal as there is a pub (a very busy one) next door, but if a quieter time is desired then a little frustrating to have to wait or call other staff to get someone to staff the bar. Breakfast was great one day, not so good (the poached eggs - very very vinegary) the next. All in all would love to stay here again.

Fabulous location for the Clifton Suspension bridge, stunning views from the restaurant. Pity the terrace is not accessible in the morning for coffee. Interior of the hotel depressingly dark and gloomy.

great views, lounge (cocktail bar areas) and terrace. Room was spacious. Great hotel for the money. think we paid £100 for the night. The girls on the desk were great as well. bit outdoor terrace with views and bar! perfect. recommend this place. great area to explore near by.

Well we had no elevator to our room that had to walk up and down 4 flights of steps which was horrible. Sometimes the staff didn’t answer the phone and forgot my order, but did finally bring it. The hotel was beautiful and comfortable and wish they had a better lift system or would have rated higher.

Firstly all clients should be informed about parking, outside car parking is always full and without any space available, if u want you can park inside the hotels yard but u need to pay12£ per night ‘ that’s fine but should be on the website this fee as well . Per total the experience was really nice.

Its a great location with spectacular views of the Avon Gorge ... Good size rooms and facilities. What could improve is dining and weird connection to next door pub, i was happy to have eaten dinner in hotel restaurant, but on a warm evening you have to sit inside (no access to terrace), for outside sitting you have to go to the pub (which is connected to the hotel) and queue (very slow) to order ... surely this would be better if you sorted this out.

Hotel bathroom is very dirty mould growing around soap dispensers, also tea&coffee tray is full of dust seem like never been cleaned for long time. Theme of the hotel is to keep it dark that’s why they can hide the dirt. Bringing a dog carries a charge of £25 per dog, per night which includes a dog bed, bowl and for the deep cleaning ( what is deep cleaning?)

I did not like the Costa room so I asked if I could up grade and I did at some extra cost. Room was comfortable but was not as clean as it could have been. Cobweb’s, dust, and stains on bathroom tiles. I took the responsibility to clean all these to make it better for us.

The staff were amazing in the Avon Gorge hotel and really make the place. We found the breakfast to be of a good quality as were the drinks and were worth the upgrade. What we did find is that the hotel MISSED its spring clean and has dirty marks on carpets and the bathroom had dust and marks in. We also found lamps with bulbs that were not working and the air conditioning smelt, which was also not helped by have to prop windows open, as the sash windows were broken in our room and my father in laws. Overall a reasonable place to stay, that with a bit more effort in cleaning and maintenance could be perfect.

I would say the cleanliness could be better. The carpets in the bar were not clean. The hotel looks like it needs a freshening up. It can feel at bit dark and dreary. The cocktail was really nice from the bar and friendly helpful bartender. ( martini expresso) The room (signature suite) was lovely with hign end toiletries and the bed was very comfortable. 35 min walk into town going downhill a bit longer coming back uphill. A beautiful spot overlooking the suspension bridge and gorge.

Enjoyed a very comfortable stay at this hotel. The staff were amazing, helpful and friendly. The overall housekeeping was good and the towels (including bath robes) were excellent. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The secondary glazing could do with a clean but this didn’t detract from our stay. Easy walking distance to Clifton and all that goes on there..

Positive - I liked the bar area and view and the staff were great. Negative - the toilet was not cleaned from previous guests. I told reception and I'm sure this will be remedied before the next guests check in.

Avon Gorge by Hotel du Vin has a fabulous location. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. It is an old building, however, and suffers some limitations from that. We chose a room which, basically, was not as "special" as we had hoped it would be, and as we had believed from the description. It was smaller that we expected, with a Gorge View as advertised, but I guess we had hoped for something closer to a panoramic view. The heating was difficult to control and the room was quite a lot warmer than we had hoped, leading to a less restful night. Nevertheless, we had a lovely time, and were able to walk around the Clifton Suspension Bridge, and to walk into the harbourside area of the city.

Very good stay at the Avon Gorge, On street parking was quite easy to find but we did arrive a couple of hours early and did notice around booking in time 3pm things were significantly busier. Very friendly reception who gave plenty of information relevant to our 1 night stay. We booked a Deluxe Balcony room on the first floor with a view of the Clifton Suspension Bridge, The room smelt fresh and clean upon entry and everything was maintained to a good standard. Some reviews have pointed out rooms are too dark but we didn't find this to be the case and found the lighting adequate and atmospheric for the room size. The balcony was very spacious and offered amazing views of the bridge and valley. Shower was very good consisting of a rainforest and wand set up which was powerful and reached temperature quickly and also included a good selection of products shampoo etc. Bed was spacious and comfortable, Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of fresh food on offer also the staff were very attentive during service. So to sum up we had an enjoyable stay with an amazing view of the Bridge Thank you 😊

The room was clean, the view was awesome, the bed was comfortable, the shower was amazing, the staff were friendly and helpful! The only reason I have given it 4 stars and not 5 is because the old Georgian sash windows rattled and kept me awake. If I had been staying longer than one night I would have asked to be moved to a different room.

We cannot comment on breakfast as we didn't have. Loved our room with a nice view, good decor and really comfortable large bed. Nice supply of tea and coffee bags and pods towels, slippers and dressing gowns provided. Good temperature control in bedroom, under floor heating in the bathroom and a powerful shower. Very pleased to get a £15 bar credit for not using housekeeping which we thought was a nice touch. Parking is at a premium and had to pay £24 for 2 days parking, but that is comparable to other cities we have stayed at. Not so enamoured by the tired dark decor in the entrance and bar and the table we sat at in the bar area was very sticky. Everything there looked rather run down unfortunately. The reception area looked like a dark funeral parlour including the body drawers at the side so rather quirky but I found it quite amusing. Most of the staff were very helpful and friendly apart from 2 members of staff in the pub attached to the hotel who were quite rude and abrupt with me for no reason. On the whole though we were very happy with our stay and really enjoyed the tasting menu in the restaurant where the staff were very friendly and informative.

Very pleased to get a £15 bar credit for not using housekeeping which we thought was a nice touch. Parking is at a premium and had to pay £24 for 2 days parking, but that is comparable to other cities we have stayed at. Not so enamoured by the tired dark decor in the entrance and bar and the table we sat at in the bar area was very sticky. Everything there looked rather run down unfortunately. The reception area looked like a dark funeral parlour including the body drawers at the side so rather quirky but I found it quite amusing. Most of the staff were very helpful and friendly apart from 2 members of staff in the pub attached to the hotel who were quite rude and abrupt with me for no reason. On the whole though we were very happy with our stay and really enjoyed the tasting menu in the restaurant where the staff were very friendly and informative.

The lighting in the room is poor. The shower looks lovely, but the hand held hair washing thing is useless, so you have to try to wash everything with the rain function - which isn't great.

Really quick in and out stay. TV and air con weren’t working and still weren’t after we mentioned it to reception. Staff were friendly and helpful though and it is really convenient for Clifton.

This is the first time I have ever written a bad review of a hotel (and I travel all the time for work - so it must be really bad!). There were many things wrong with our stay, but I'll mention a few. The hotel seems to have a policy of ripping off its clients. We ate in the restaurant on two evenings and both times they tried to charge us a significant amount too much. When we checked out we were due a £15 refund, but they actually took £15 from my bank account instead. We tried to sort it out by phone, after we discovered what they had done, but the duty manager (Michele) was very rude and unhelpful and never called back despite promises by his (much friendlier) staff. We gave up in the end. It's a very dark and dingy hotel, with little natural light. We paid extra for a view of Avon Gorge and, admittedly, we could see the tops of the trees on the far side of the gorge out of the small window, but most of the view was of a horrible roof. And, finally, the hotel claims it has parking - which it does for a handful of cars - but most of its clients have to park on the street (and it's not easy to find a space anywhere near the hotel much of the time). We definitely will never stay there again.

The hotel staff were very helpful and nothing was too much. Bed was very comfortable and clean would definitely go back . We had great food in the bar and wasn’t expensive and came quickly but as for the bar staff they were very slow on there phones and there was a queue always so you were 10/15 minutes getting a drink. It was quicker to go to the small hotel bar but other than that had a fantastic stay and look forward to going back

Great Hotel professional and helpful staff. Quick and easy check in and out. Help with parking locally. The rooms were traditional yet modern, the bathrooms wonderful and luxurious. Beds very comfortable. The only tiny thing is that the hotel bar is not well staffed - while not a big deal as there is a pub (a very busy one) next door, but if a quieter time is desired then a little frustrating to have to wait or call other staff to get someone to staff the bar. Breakfast was great one day, not so good (the poached eggs - very very vinegary) the next. All in all would love to stay here again.

The bathroom products ran out and weren't refilled. The room was cold and it was not easy to alter the temperature. There was a thermostat in the room but the people on Reception altered the temperature, it too a while to sort it out. In the bar, I was served a flat and off colour glass of champagne. They replaced it, however, it was disappointing to see that they thought it would be ok in the first place to serve flat, old wine at a premium price. We were mostly disappointed that the Reception staff ordered us a taxi, which didn't turn up. We asked them to check with the taxi firm whether the time we had allowed ourselves would allow sufficient time to get to the train station. They seemed aloof and didn't seem to listen to the question. I don't believe they did in fact ask. In any case, the taxi didn't turn up. I appreciate that it's not the hotels fault if a taxi doesn't turn up. However, I asked the hotel to organise, in the belief that they would have established and trusted links with taxi companies and we could rely on them.

We loved our stay! Very comfortable & large bed in a great room which was very clean with a nice bathroom. The location is perfect in the beautiful Clifton village. You can have a drink on the terrace with views of the suspension bridge. Definitely would return

We chose not to drive which was lucky as parking is very limited. It’s a bit of a trek from Clifton Down station but it is walkable. The view from the terrace was lovely.

Nice little hotel, the most comfortable bed and bedding on our entire trip. Has automatic entry doors, which was very much appreciated with all our luggage. Has air conditioning, also much appreciated. Restaurant for dinner was no bueno - they overcooked my steak by a fair amount. Lady next to us said her fish was also overcooked. We ended up going to the bar and having pizza for dinner. My chicken pesto pizza was so-so, but my husband's pepperoni pizza was nice. Wonderful large terrace on the river with a view of the Clifton suspension bridge.

The hotel was comfortable, with a newly refurbished feel to the decor and had a fantastic view of the gorge. However the pub onsite meant that all the tables on the terrace were taken and the hotel had no reserved guest area. Our original room on the 1st floor unfortunately gave the “pub” customers a clear view into the room and the music could be heard clearly. Therefore it felt like we were staying in a pub, not a hotel du vin. The bar drinks menu was extensive but we weren’t aware of that when getting a drink outside. The receptionist that offered us another room was helpful showing the alternative location. The bar staff in the evening was a wonderful young lady and the breakfast staff welcoming. Breakfast was exceptional. Having previously mystery shopped this group, maybe I’m overly critical. But having stayed in the groups other venues as a paying customer, I felt the pub aspect took away the exclusivity. A reserved hotel area on the terrace would have avoided this, understandably the pub brings in much needed revenue and by the queue to get in is popular. Clifton is a vibrant area and easily walkable.

Comfortable room but had to hunt for the switch to turn on the bathroom radiator which we finally found under a table. A notice would have been helpful! We had the Sunday roast. Food was pleasant but timing of the service was very poor. Meat was brought out, eventually followed by cauliflower cheese (with no serving spoons). After a further lengthy break, the green vegetables were brought out, by which time the meat was getting cold. Not a great restaurant experience.

I’m writing to share some feedback on a recent visit to your hotel, which unfortunately fell far short of expectations – especially given Hotel du Vin’s reputation for quality and its focus on wine. I specifically booked with you because of your wine offering. However, when I went to the bar, I was told there was no wine list available. The staff member was unable to advise on the wines and offered me just one option for rosé – a standard, widely available bottle. I opted for a red instead, which again was a very generic choice, and not what I had hoped for in a hotel that prides itself on wine. The staff member serving me clearly had no experience handling wine. They cut the foil incorrectly, couldn’t remove it fully, and ended up pulling the cork through the foil – pouring the wine from a ragged hole. This is not what I would expect from a wine-led venue and frankly, was quite disappointing. I ordered a vegan meal – one of only two vegan options available – and a small glass of Rioja. When I checked the bill, I noticed I was charged more than expected. The server was unable to explain why, eventually discovering I had been automatically charged a discretionary service fee of £3.56. To be clear: I had walked up to the bar, ordered at the till, and had no prior interaction with the staff. Its a great location with spectacular views of the Avon Gorge ... Good size rooms and facilities. What could improve is dining and weird connection to next door pub, i was happy to have eaten dinner in hotel restaurant, but on a warm evening you have to sit inside (no access to terrace), for outside sitting you have to go to the pub (which is connected to the hotel) and queue (very slow) to order ... surely this would be better if you sorted this out.

We only stayed one night, but honestly very impressed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We honestly couldn’t find any faut at all. In particular Jessica and Josh in the bar were brilliant, the atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming, in no small part due to them. This was the first time we visited the Avon Gorge, but we are already planning an expedition to longer visit in the near future.

A Wonderful Stay for the Bristol Hot Air Balloon Festival We booked a Classic Gorge Vista Room – Valley View, and the reception team kindly arranged a top-floor (3rd floor) room for us. The view was fantastic, with the hot air balloons rising right in front of us. We were lucky enough to enjoy two launches — around 6pm on arrival and 6am the following morning. Although the room rate was higher during the festival, it was absolutely worth it! The room was quiet and comfortable, air conditioning. The mattress was slightly soft for our preference, and the room and bathroom lighting were a little dark, but overall everything was clean and comfortable. We booked dinner for 6pm, which was another highlight. We could sit comfortably by the large restaurant windows, enjoying our meal while watching the balloons rise. Most importantly, we didn’t have to squeeze in with the crowds outside or fight for a viewing spot. We could simply relax, enjoy our food and watch the spectacular balloons in comfort. A truly memorable experience. The Roast Pavé of Cod was excellent. The Braised Lamb Shoulder was a little salty, but still enjoyable. The Honey Roasted Butternut Squash with dukkah was delicious, and the Almond Cake was lovely. The next morning, we watched the balloons again from our room and the restaurant terrace before breakfast. Overall, we had a wonderful stay. The beautiful view, peaceful surroundings, good food and the chance to watch the balloons comfortably without the crowd

Most importantly, we didn’t have to squeeze in with the crowds outside or fight for a viewing spot. We could simply relax, enjoy our food and watch the spectacular balloons in comfort. A truly memorable experience. The Roast Pavé of Cod was excellent. The Braised Lamb Shoulder was a little salty, but still enjoyable. The Honey Roasted Butternut Squash with dukkah was delicious, and the Almond Cake was lovely. The next morning, we watched the balloons again from our room and the restaurant terrace before breakfast. Overall, we had a wonderful stay. The beautiful view, peaceful surroundings, good food and the chance to watch the balloons comfortably without the crowd
