Gorgeous old building, friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable bed and good selection of pillows. Quite noisy - from the street (as would be expected on a busy corner - which is also very convenient for getting around town) - but also through our wall from inside. Woken by very loud banging very early each morning - perhaps from the cleaner's closet between the end rooms. Could be amazing with a little update - looks a little tired and the balcony will become unsafe without some serious restoration soon. The dining room (only used for a continental breakfast) is crying out to be an art deco cocktail bar! Overall, excellent for a casual and generally relaxing stay.

Property was Close to Restaurants,shops and clubs As we are elderly we found that it was difficult to get our luggage upstairs to our accommodation an there was no lift we also had to park our carin the street in a 4 hour parking zone

There is no bar area at the hotel and the lounge and dining areas were closed on both nights (Mon & Tue) Advised they would be closed for the foreseeable future. Therefore no indoor areas to relax apart from my room. Only on street parking (max 4 hours during the day) across from the hotel. The cost for the stay did not reflect the lack of amenities offered

The staff were friendly and our room was cleaned well every day. There were bathrobes included for our use which is always a plus. The bed was comfy and we had access to the wide balcony. We did not use the breakfast facility but were disappointed that there was no possibility for sitting in the lounge after 5.30pm as they locked it up.

Disappointingly it is more like an understaffed boarding house - there is no service in the dinning room other than a motel style sketches; breakfast there is no drink service except the usual motel type overprice ‘minibar’;there is no parking other than on the street where time limits apply; reception was unhelpful - when I asked what were good dinning option I was told ‘just go down the street there are plenty of things open’. Not withstanding that the room and bedding were of a high standard. Pity, with a bit more effort could be an outstanding option. Need to try harder

Sadly the Royal Exchange in Broken Hill is well past its glory days. Rooms are tired, beds are old, showers over baths are outdated, and the so called deluxe balcony rooms open up onto a balcony that is taped off midway due to the poor condition of the timbers at the front half. There are many other accommodation options in Broken Hill for similar or in some cases cheaper prices that are far better. Time for the Royal Exchange to either upgrade, close down or become a budget option, as the current pricing is not commensurate with the facility provided

The hotel is very nicely decorated and looked after. The only parking is on the street and there are time limits so you have your car. Also, the wifi coverage was no good in our room despite staff telling us "it should be OK" it simply wasn't. It would be nice for this to be fixed so we would get what we paid for.

We had car problems so it delayed our arrival by 48 hours, which they gladly pushed back for us. When we arrived the room was very clean and the air conditioner had the room lovely and cool. They even upgraded us to a larger room as they were a bit quieter than usual. Will stay here for sure the next time we are in Broken Hill.

A massive thank you to everyone at the Royal Exchange - right from giving lots of dinner recommendations when I checked in, then letting me extend my stay at the last minute, and then especially to Ray as I was leaving, who let me stay in my room past check-out time, then insisted I stayed in their (very comfortable!) Lounge while waiting for my flight, and then spent ages calling around taxis who didn't come and eventually arranging for a local tour bus driver to run me to the airport. After being looked after like that, I wish I could stay forever!

We knew it was an old hotel but probably there should be some upgrades, bathrooms ? Also we would've liked to grab a drink arriving late afternoon, no-one in the bar area and the receptionist was clearly wanting to go as soon as possible, its a hotel for goodness sake, look after your guests We went down the road to the Broken Hill Pub

The general ambience of this grand old hotel was lovely. Very well maintained internally. The staff on reception were very informative, especially regarding different cafes and restaurants. Sadly the hotel doesn't offer any in-house dining, not even breakfast , this is a great shame as the dining room was really beautiful.
