When you travel on a schedule and breakfast is opened 20 minutes late, it can really mess with a long travel day schedule. 1/2 of the ice machines were empty. The hot tub was not operating. That is something a weary driver should know ahead of booking, because sometimes that may be the whole reason we choose one location over another. Room was clean and cool, bathroom was spotless, and the rest of the property was definitely on-brand. Parking was plentiful, and the location was easy access to highways.

We had a great stay here. Everything was clean and organized. The pool was open but the hot tob didn't seem very clean, on the other end of that, the pool seemed like the chemicals were just too strong for it being enclosed. They may have just possibly shocked the pool or accidently put too much chlorine in it for the day, but it had eyes burning just walking into the pool room. Everything else was great though. Free breakfast was a big help to just get back on the road without stopping for food. Staff was friendly too.

We traveled from Indiana, (on our way to Florida) and planned to stay at a hotel half way through the trip. I specifically chose this hotel, because of their nice pool and hot tub for me and my kids. When we arrived, the hotel was under construction, and the pool area was closed. There was no warning about the hotel being under construction or that the pool area would be closed. I could’ve picked any number of other hotels with like accommodations, had I known that the pool would be closed. Pretty disappointing…

The staff was amazing and very nice. Check-in was a breeze. We drove 10 hours and wanted to stretch and exercise before bed because we had another 10 hours the next day. The gym has 5 pcs of equipment which worked fine but it was so hot in there. The heat was locked at 78 and there is no way to adjust it and no fans to move the air. We exercised the went to the room and got ready for the pool. The pool water was dirty and disgusting. We found 4 bandaids floating in the water, water was “cloudy” and the tile floor was covered in dirty. We will not be booking this one on the way back.

was there for a conference that was held in sylacauga, al. the location of the hotel was great. The staff was friendly and very professional. Once, in the room the bed was so comfortable/ bathroom clean. Love the new look in the room/ bathroom. the pool area/ jacuzzi was peaceful. I will be back again.

The staff was amazing, as were the amenities. The pool and hot tub were super clean. We had a ladybug infestation but maintenance staff were excellent in removing them. Room was comfortable.

This Holiday Inn is ok. Not great. Not horrible. Ok. Pro's: The beds were comfortable. There is an indoor pool. Breakfast was complimentary. The person working over the breakfast was friendly. Con's: The toilet was stopped up when we arrived. The indoor pool had hair and trash in it. The cinnamon rolls were not available at breakfast. With some cleaning and maintenance this place could become excellent

Everything was generally good except the pullout sofa bed was really uncomfortable. There also appeared to be only one functioning ice machine, but we ended up finding ice on the fifth floor. Desk staff were lovely and helpful. Breakfast was good, especially the pancake maker.

False advertisement, I picked this hotel after comparing it with other hotels in the website and went for it as it advertised great amenities. When I got there the pool and hit but were not available. The front desk did not approve a discount or a partial refund even when the advertisement was not accurate.

Super comfortable beds.. Bathrooms needed a good deep cleaning, but overall, we would stay here again! Super friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was good as well!

Although the staff love to stare at their phone they were friendly and helpful when we got their attention. Both rooms had no bedding for the sofas and when we asked for some the guy gave us them, but then looked at a staff member that was leaving telling them there were no more made. The pool was very cloudy. The hot tub was barely working. It didnt smell like chlorine at all. Next to the pool area was the laundry room. There was so much bedding and no washer or dryers going. Both rooms only had 3 towels per room. We had 11 total staying. When we asked for 6 towels we were given 2. Elevators were dirty. Floors were dirty in hallways. Breakfast was good and the area was clean there. I booked over a month in advance and they had both rooms on two different floors. And for how many were staying the rooms were VERY small.

Staff was friendly but the room stank due to no ventilation of any kind (including exhaust fan in bathroom). Key cards for the room and ice area would only work for about 15-30 minutes then had to be re-programmed. Overall, the hotel is rundown and in serious need of upgrades. Also, not within walking distance of anything after dark due to position off the main thoroughfare, remoteness, and poor outdoor lighting.

Everything was fine. We stayed for one night. The one thing that I noticed was the floors in public areas were dirty. Unswept or unmopped areas in the elevator and lobby

The hotel was nice but we found a cockroach in our room which ruined our stay. We didn’t eat breakfast due to seeing it too

AC was not working well. The first room we were given had a leak and two huge fans and a chair on top of the bed when we walked in. There was a damp red and mildew smell in the room. We were quickly given another room and the desk attendant was apologetic. It was the same floor so the mildew smell and AC issue was still not good. The eggs in the breakfast were not good and the sausage was undercooked.

Room 310 had a leak outside the window that kept us up all night long

Great stay, but if you stay ask to not be put in a room over the front desk or front entrance. The people that smoke are out side smoking and are very loud. Otherwise a great place to stay!

Reserved a suite. Room was unfinished re construction. No hot water in the shower. Kitchenette sink wasn’t hooked up. Fridge not plugged in. Curtains not installed. Outlets inoperable. Fortunately after 3 requests, we were moved to a different room with zero compensation for new room not being a suite.

Beds were very comfortable.

When we first got there we were greeted as soon as we walk in. The check in process went real smooth and fast. Our room was clean. The tv maybe have 4-5 channels so we really didn’t watch tv too much. They had breakfast but we didn’t get up on time. Check out was quick and fast too. This guy was real nice. The hotel is around restaurants and a Walmart down the street. So will I come back and my answer is yes I will

Upon arrival we discovered that the hotel was being remodeled. That wasn't a big deal however our room had already been done and the finish was already coming off of the tub in giant flakes and I had to take the drain plug out in order to remove as many flakes as I could to unclog the drain in order to use the shower. Housekeeping never touched our room the entire time we were there(3 days) so new towels, bedding coffee etc. The front desk staff were friendly however a number of them would take their smoke breaks right outside the front doors rather than far enough away from the doors in order not offend others with their second hand smoke. Also our door lock assembly had been installed upside down so that you had to turn the handle up rather than down in order to open the door. Not a big deal but when you're used to every other hotel room opening the other way it made us wonder if the door was bolted and someone was already in that room. We had to go back to the front desk and talk to them and that's when we found out that had been done to a number of their rooms during the remodel. We love staying at HI expresses and are IHG members but that one left a lot to be desired and doubt we'll be back to that one.

The room was spacious. There was a place to put two suitcases off the floor (most rooms only have a single suitcase stand). The breakfast was good other than not having low-fat milk (there was only whole milk). The wifi was down pretty much the whole time. Perhaps for that reason, my bill was messed up. I have been charged by Expedia, charged again by the hotel, and the hotel has a third charge pending as of the time of this writing, two days after I checked out.

We had a wonderful time at this hotel staff was extremely nice and funny. Front desk clerk name Jamal and the staff manager were excellent. Very friendly. Breakfast was amazing. This will be our hotel of choice any time we visit UAB.

After arriving was told no room was available

Well to start, I arrived on a Thursday about 1:30pm and I asked if they have a room that was cleaned for me to check into and they said no and that I had to wait till 2:45pn. After checking in ( with no problem ) the lady at the desk had to escort me to my room because they were not able to make a room key because the machine was down since last Saturday. That ment that anytime I left my room, I had to go to the desk to come open my room door. My room was 205 and the water pressure for the sink was slightly greater than a steady drip. The bed was very comfortable with very nice pillows. Breakfast was little bit less than average. The orange juice was very weak and watered down but the cranberry juice was on point. On a scale of 1 - 10, I would rate it a 5.

Stay was great. Marcus at the front desk gave us the fastest and most efficient check in ever. We had some issues with the drains for the sink and tub in the room. Front desk got right on it and had maintenance resolve the issue while we were out. Staff were great and helpful.

This reservation was made through Expedia and proved to be one of the most horrible experiences I have had in years. The desk Clerk was an absolute nightmare. The first set of door key/cards indicated that my room was room number 224 but despite multiple attempts the cards did not work and he tells me if I put them near anything magnetic, I ruin them. The second set, which was only one, I placed between my teeth. It did not work either upon returning to the lobby. He began to shout that I would not “disrespect him”. And insisted that the door was open and the key did work. He then insisted that I follow him back upstairs so that he could show me. As I neared the door to room number 224 I began to slow down, but he kept going. With a rather dramatic flourish he open the door to room 228 and looked at me to say there. When I showed him the room card that said 224 he got very still, then went around me again telling me I would not disrespect him in a most agitated manner and that I could leave. That seems like good advice at the time so I gathered all my stuff one last time went down to the desk and ask him please to cancel my reservation and was there anything I needed to sign? He said no so I left and went to a different motel. I called customer service from that motel room and was told I needed to call the manager of the Holiday Inn the next morning. I was not able to do that until about 1 o’clock the next afternoon and when I did a very gruff young man answered the phone.…….

Traveled 6 hours to expect the room we reserved. Wrong room for a family of 5. Front desk no help. She said “it’s just terrible here tonight. No one is getting the correct rooms.”

Slow service

Only issue I had that was a huge factor in our itinerary is we weren't able to check-in for over an hour past check-in time due to numerous late checkouts. The front staff was exceptional and handled the situation to the best of their abilities, they were professional and very apologetic.

Definitely a nice place, private, quiet and clean! Restaurants so close you can walk.

Location was great. Close to Dining and Grandview.

I like that the room was off in a safe area. Wished it was signs by the road showing that the room was there. I had to google. Overall good safe location.

The property is very well located, there's lots to eat nearby and places to visit. Downtown Birmingham is not that that far. The Zoo and Science Museum were pretty close. The property was very cleaned and the pool was a delight. The only thing I didn't like was the front desk service. The attendant there seemed to have an attitude of get out of my way type of thing. He did comply with my requests but was always in a hurry to get me out of the way. I would suggest taking a different approach.

The hotel is great...but the location is the pits. Highway 280 is a nightmare and especially rough if you need to cross the highway to reach the hotel.

It was a pretty good stay, it’s in a convenient location.

Breakfast was inedible, with burned eggs and dried-out sausage (cinammon rolls were fine), and really, really bitter and cheap coffee. This was a football game weekend, which is always hard in Birmingham, and I assume it was understaffed AND only one elevator working, so any help the kitchen needed was probably stuck on another floor...

I give this hotel 5 stars because the staff there was very friendly and accommodating! The rooms were clean and the breakfast was good and served at the right temperatures. My only complaint was that the pool was ice cold to me! The children seemed to enjoyed it regardless! I would recommend this to anyone staying in the Birmingham area. If I'm ever there again it would be my go to facility!

Easy to find and ample parking. Very comfortable king bed with 4 pillows, good Wi-Fi, Tv signal good coffee maker that can be used to make tea too. Pool was indoors and a good temperature with towels poolside. Only downside was breakfast, no bananas and we did ask and everything pretty much pre packaged so apart from a yoghurt no GF options for my wife other than pretty bad scrambled eggs. Coffee was ok and there was a toaster for toast plus waffle maker and sausages n biscuits n gravy for me.

Very noisy room next to lobby. Lobby TV loud all night, front desk person very loud talking on phone at 4 am. Breakfast food was terrible.
