Nice little cabins tucked in off the road right across from the black sand beach. Everything was very clean, bed was comfortable, TV had roku. Very tight parking but doable for small cars, fairly quiet with sitting area outside. We didnt need anything else. Would definitely stay here again.

The cottage is perfect for a couple. We loved the size, the lanai overlooking the ocean was so relaxing. Close to nature and not touristy. A bit of a drive to town, but worth it.

This was our second stay at Dolphin Cottage. Kehena Beach is the obvious first attraction, as its across the street. If you've never been to Kehena, it's worth a visit. Beautiful sunrise, constant waves (watch out for the intermittent big wave) and interesting people. If you want some quiet time, you can sit on the balcony of Dolphin and listen to the palms rustle in the breeze. Dolphin is a good central point to visit Hilo, Pahoa, and VNP. Recommend!

We enjoyed our stay at the Whale House. Though we were across the street from the shore we could see the ocean from the lanai. Everything was clean and comfortable. Although it was a bit of a scramble to get there, the black sand beach was lovely. We would definitely stay there again.

The Whale House was simple and perfect. Exactly what we needed, quiet, clean and the host was extremely easy to work with. We will stay here again. You can hear the ocean, the view is beautiful and the kitchen was great for cooking meals. So many state parks down the road on both sides. Love it!

Our stay at the kahena beach cottage was amazing. It was on the rainforest side, which gave us a wonderful "off the beaten path" experience and It was directly across from kahena beach, which is a nude beach so be mindful of that before bringing your kids and making the nude people uncomfortable ( watched this happen). The inside of the cabin was very clean ,comfortable and up to date. 10 out of 10 rating

Nice place, laid back feel,AC in the bedroom and good bed for a comfortable night sleep. Kehena black sand beach right across the road- you do have to climb down to it and trail is not well marked so ask anyone at the top how to get there.

We absolutely loved the Whale House! The location is absolutely beautiful and the area was very quiet. The unit had basic kitchen supplies but they were very limited. The in bedroom air was great and the bed was very comfortable. The beach across the street was definitely one of our favorite spots to go and relax. We would definitely stay here again on our next visit and recommend it to anyone going to the Big Island.

We did two nights just across the street from the amazing Kehena black sand beach. Cottage is comfortable for two, and we appreciated the AC in the bedroom. Will definitely be coming back again and again. Other folks mentioned the naturist aspect of the beach, and although true, that didn’t bother us in the least. Truly one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen. The climb down is a bit daunting the first time, but no big deal once we got the hang of it.

Had an amazing stay - Andre was very communicative especially when the power went out! Property was a perfect base camp for everything we wanted to do in the area (Volcanes NP, Hilo, etc) - accommodations were comfortable and having the ocean right outside our door was just amazing! The area is charming and the people are kind! Will definitely be coming back!

We enjoyed the quiet tropical stay at The Whale House after a few busy days of work in Kona. Andre was super responsive when we had a bit of trouble finding the place and when we needed a light repaired. Great location and don't miss Wednesday nights at Uncle Roberts! Mahalo, we will be back!

We stayed in one of three chalets/cabins on the property: They are very well situated for exploring the area and right across the road from the black sand Kehena Beach. The owners were very responsive and also assisted with tips on what to do. The hot pools at a beach nearby are worth a visit, as is the newly formed black sand beach in the other direction. There is a very well stocked small grocery store about 5 minutes drive away. Well situated for a visit to the Hawaiian National Volcanoes Park. A beautiful and varied area well worth a stay.

This little cottage by the sea was just what we wanted. Beautiful early morning wake-up calls from the birds and geckos and the sounds of the waves. Night is especially amazing as the stars are bright. Loved the black sand beach and chatting with locals. Close to everything. Really hope we can visit again soon. Thanks Andre and Susan for a wonderful week.

We were thrilled to have found this gem of a home at this dramatically scenic location. The photos really do not do it justice. Wish we could have stayed longer. It would have been helpful to know that there was a single burner hot plate, but we managed to plan food that would not require cooking! Mahalo!

We absolutely loved the Whale House! The location is absolutely beautiful and the area was very quiet. The unit had basic kitchen supplies but they were very limited. The in bedroom air was great and the bed was very comfortable. The beach across the street was definitely one of our favorite spots to go and relax. We would definitely stay here again on our next visit and recommend it to anyone going to the Big Island.

The cottage is in a great location to explore the South Island lava flows. Communication and check in were flawless. There is no store or food near by so bring your own.

The Whale House was simple and perfect. Exactly what we needed, quiet, clean and the host was extremely easy to work with. We will stay here again. You can hear the ocean, the view is beautiful and the kitchen was great for cooking meals. So many state parks down the road on both sides. Love it!
