Sonesta Essential Fairmont

Nice place. Like some others have said. The front of the hotel is backwards to the road you take to get to it. If you are using gps it will take you across the field from the hotel. I guess there will be another road some time later. They are getting ready to remodel the hotel. It doesn't look that bad for a remodel. Very clean and comfortable and quiet. Will stay again if in the area. Good price. There is breakfast also.

My room had great, fast internet which is important to me when traveling. The gym was closed due to a leak but things like that happen after a snow storm. No big deal for me as I went outside to run.....Staff were womderful and decent places nearby to eat. This was an overnight stay to cut my trip in half and I will stay here in the future.

Tv didn’t work at first and side parking outside door - key worked periodically which was a little frustrating. Loved a first floor, end of hall room.

The hotel is very clean and the bed was more comfortable than I expected it to be. The breakfast was pretty tasteless. The bathroom is very small. But th biggest problem is the entrance to the hotel parking lot. It’s. Massive pothole that filled with water due to rain and you can’t see how deep it is but it covers the full width of the entrance.

Unfortunately, this hotel is extremely overrated on this platform. Check reviews elsewhere for better, more accurate, information. We walked into our dog-friendly room and were instantly subject to the coldest indoor temperatures I've ever experienced (possibly the A/C had been cranked to the max by cleaning staff to improve the extreme dampness in the carpet). The main wall, just inside the doorway, was battered and scratched. Both beds had extremely cheap and badly-fitting bed-skirts, and the skirts were spotted heavily with dried mud. Neither the TV nor the phone worked correctly during our three-night stay. Both mattresses were so badly worn it was almost comical to watch anyone sit on them and sink down, down, down. Hallways were marginally clean, some of the time. Attempts had been made to use touch-up paint on many of the beat-up hallway walls, but the color and sheen were not a good match. Exterior door locks did not always work and sometimes required 10+ attempts before the door would finally unlock—people were propping doors open at night with chunks of concrete as a result, creating a serious security issue. PROS: Hotel staff was very limited but friendly—like one or two folks running the whole place. Breakfast was extremely modest and low-budget, but the eating area was clean. Our fridge, micro, and shower all worked, so that was a plus. I also found a working treadmill in the Fitness Room which was a good surprise. This hotel is mainly frequented by road and

This was my first stay at the Sonesta Essential Fairmont. The event was a college football game, and though I made the reservation months ago, the usual places I stay were booked up. The location (on the property of the redeveloped Middletown Mall) is good. The night before, they called to 'confirm' my reservation. I get electronic reminders frequently, but not a call from the property for decades. Odd. The first room we were placed in had not been cleaned; the toilet, in particular was filthy and would not flush properly. The second room was likewise dirty; the third, finally was 'clean' (except for a horrible stain on the carpet). The A/C unit was set to cool at 60 degrees. By the time we were settled into our room, it was too late to go to a favorite locally owned restaurant next door. We ended up at Applebee's. The drain in the tub was slow, and the drain knob not attached. There is no mat to prevent slipping in the tub in the accumulated water. For some reason, the main entrance to the hotel is in the back. Here is a partial list of other items deemed "non-essential" by Sonesta: * Signage to guide you to the property * In-room coffee service * Housekeeping service * Real eggs -- there is a hot breakfast, but the scrambled eggs are powdered. Further, there is no cheese or salsa to cover this fact up. A batter dispenser hinted at the presence of waffle maker, but it wasn't there. This is now my LAST choice of hotels in the area.

The "front" entrance is at the rear of the property, but I suspect it was done in anticipation of a cluster of hotels in a group, which has not yet happened.

Hotel is a bit rundown, chipped paint, stains. The cleaning solvent was so strong when I walked in the room, what are they hiding? When I first went to my room, the key card didn’t work so I went back to the front desk and the receptionist told me “Oh, some of the handles you have to lift up to use” ummm why didn’t you tell me that before?

Very clean and quiet. Staff was very friendly and in a great location for shopping and dining. We had a great time. Will definitely be staying there again. Although it was a great place to stay, the breakfast could have been a little better. Not much of a choice like other hotels have but still better than nothing.

The room was dirty and not thoroughly cleaned. Mini-fridge was dirty and the items in the bathroom hadn't been restocked. Wouldn't recommend.

The room was dirty. The floor in the room was not clean, also the bathroom floor was dirty also. Cleanliness was a fail. The bed looked like someone just got off of it before i walked in the room. You could have wrote on the direct tv box with your finger because there was so much dust on it!!! If i could have i would of left and went somewhere else.

I really wanted to rate this property higher because the staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. Unfortunately, the room itself was very disappointing. There was a strong damp, musty smell as soon as I walked in, the bed sheets were frayed, and the overall cleanliness was poor. The fridge still had the previous guest’s takeaway food left inside, and there was sticky residue under the bedside table top, which clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly. It’s a shame, because the staff created a good first impression, but the room condition and cleanliness did not meet expectations at all. I hope the property takes this feedback seriously and improves housekeeping and maintenance, as the team working there deserve better.

Didnt stay as room and bed was dirty and gross

Terrible! We checked in &was told if the key don't work to try to push down on the handle & then up. I shouldve known then it was going to be bad. After 5 minutes, we got in. Dark brown walls & room Definitely outdated. But we can deal with that. There's a funny smell. We check the mattresses for bed bugs & the sheets. There was hair in 1 bed & the sheets were wrinkled & not clean. So we decide to sleep in 1 bed. Went to wash our hands & there's no soap or shampoo. We went & asked & she said it should be in the shower but I will give you some. We go back to the room & none was in the shower but we used what she gave us. We turn on the TV & cant get channels. I called the desk & she told me to try this&that. No success so she came up. She said she didn't know & would reset the Box & it should be good in 15 minutes. Nope! So we had no TV. We go to use the microwave & were blessed with previous guests nachos in it. Went to use fridge & again drinks & food. So those weren't cleaned either. The bed was very uncomfortable. Between the mattress & the smell it made for a bad night's sleep. We took a shower in the morning & find no hair dryer so I had to leave with wet hair while cold outside. The towels smelled funky. I wouldn't recommend this place & we certainly didnt get our money's worth. The place is in need of a refresh but most importantly better cleaning! The front desk lady was apologetic but for all my trouble no one even offered a little bit of money off my stay.

Hotel was in disrepair, house keeping not up to par. The room and the hotel are dirty. Carpets in room is dirty and stained. Not a pleasant experience.

Carpets were filthy. Drapes and bed skirts were stained and unclean!! Room smelled horrible like mold and mildew!

The rooms are very old and dirty. (Lobby is bright and clean). Towels thread bare with visible dirt when held to light. Smelly stuffy room. Thermostat missing from wall. Visible dust on all edges of stained old carpet. Several areas of mold/mildew on the walls and ceiling in the bathroom. Spiderwebs visible in the bathroom. Front desk somewhat friendly. Breakfast area clean.

Heavily stained furniture and towels, feces in toilet, hairs on towels. No coffee pot in suite. Bagged pastries and processed food.

Great value for the price as well as reasonable charge for our dog. Walls are a bit thin so if you’re a light sleeper it could be a problem. Good breakfast.

I booked a room with 2 beds and when we arrived it only had one queen sized bed. The room was extremely small. Curtains didn't close all the way to block out the light..most outlets you had to crawl around on the floor to even get to. No plans to ever book there again..

Tv never worked the entire atay maintenance came in twice and it anever wirked he froze everytime 8 turned the channel at one point turned pink and stayed this way the remainder of the stay....all in all the front desk lady was really nice and tried to fix all of my complaints within in her control but had no luck

The TVs are very small and hard to use. We had to switch inputs and the sound wouldn’t work and they were just finicky. The beds were very soft and the staff was great, but felt a little run down and the outside signs were just banners hung over old signs which made us uneasy.

The a/c unit sounded like an airplane landing, so load, heard when taking a shower. If we had arrived earlier than 11pm, I would have asked to be moved to a new room. The second room was by the stairwell, and closing door from any of the floors was heard as well throughout the night. For the breakfast, waffle batter, no waffle maker, mini fridge for pitchers of beverages, but those ran out by 7:45, except milk.

The room was very small & the queen size bed was more like a full size

The staff was excellent and did all they could to make my stay comfortable. Unfortunately my room was outdated and the small TV screen didn’t work. The courteous and diligent staff finally got it working. The AC unit sounds like a plane engine taking off as it was loud and continually turned on and off. I finally had to turn it completely off even though it was 80+ degrees the night I arrived.

Staff friendly helpfull efficient

This seems like a property in the midst of a change in management or ownership. While the physical aspects of the hotel were pretty good, they were short handed in terms of staff and their breakfast offering was terrible. The staff was courteous and they tried to help whenever they could, they were clearly in need of more experienced help.

I didn't have a stay. They gave my room to somone else even thought I paid for it a month in advance. There were no rooms when i went to check in. I had to make a last minute booking somewhere else.

The young lady (Brea?) that checked us in was great. She was friendly, helpful and she never sat down as I was in and out for smoke breaks and saw her doing laundry, sweeping and washing the entrance and desk lobby area. I had difficulty getting in to the wifi and she put me on in my iPad. If I was a business owner, I’d hire her and make sure her wage was decent.

Laurie the manager of the site does everything with excellence. Staff was all friendly and helpful.

Nightmare-Currently this hotel is not fit for guests during the transition. I was not going to post this but I left Sunday and still do not believe I am checked out on their end. The front desk was all new people and Management was all on vacation. The bride was told we could check in early so I called on my way around 2 to see if my room was ready. I was rudely told that check in was at 3. When I arrived around 2:30 she had no intentions of letting us in until 3 regardless of whether our rooms were ready. That lady left at 3 and the young man/lady checking us in couldn’t find any of our rooms nor my reservation. Our rehearsal dinner was at 4 and we were still trying to get our rooms at 3:30-3:45. We were going to switch hotels but the bride was made promises for the guests that made us stay, plus we got back late. I talked to the front desk after the rehearsal and he was surprised I was in room 303 because I hadn’t been checked in on his end. The shower in 303 sounds like a crying cat unless you get it in the perfect position and the air conditioner sounds like a plane taking off like a prior review stated. Check out- The same lady from check in could not check me out without calling management. I told the lady I was staying until we had it settled and I had a receipt. The second person she called said they couldn’t check me out until someone else took care of it and I’d get a call in an hour. Called corporate and still have not heard back.

Front desk personnel are hard to find. Ring the bell, wait. No notice that there was no room cleaning what so ever. Didn't even empty trash cans. When requested final receipt, clerk said she was unable to provide.

Good location right off of the interstate. Good price. Clean and neat facility.

The front desk staff were pleasant. Rooms and lobby were very clean. The location is a bit strange, but extremely convenient to restaurants, shopping (and a hospital ER literally in the back yard should you need it) - as well as less than 15 minutes from Fairmont State. We were here on a Saturday evening, and the hotel was very quiet.

We find this place to be a convenient layover while traveling I 79.

When we arrived at our room the door was being held open..entered carefully and the beds were not complete. Got the person on the front desk he offered to give us pillow cases …is that not your job? There was no blow dryer …called the front desk for 2 hours and continually busy..it was not an emergency but what if you need help. The food at breakfast was disgusting…didn’t eat and left

Our check in was simple and efficient. Our room was clean and quiet. The front desk person helped us with a TV issue. Very comfortable bed. We came down for breakfast at 840 to find only one bagel, no bread but lots of eggs and sausage. We had sufficient food but it seemed like they were closing breakfast early.

Room was nice and staff were friendly. However it was advertised as having a breakfast, but there was pretty much nothing there except bread and biscuits and gravy. Waffle machine had no supplies, no eggs or bacon in hot serving tray, juice machine broken, no fruit. Worst breakfast buffet I’ve seen.

Bed was comfortable but lots of loud doors slamming starting before 6am. Minimal breakfast. Overall ok for what you pay.

Breakfast was poor. Front desk person responsible for re-stocking breakfast bar. When it ran out, items were not replaced. Two days certain breakfast items were not even offered. In room TV had to reset the input every time it was turned on in order to view TV. Rooms are smallish, but I knew this from pervious stay. Quality of stay drasticly down graded from pre Covid.

We have stayed here a number of times on our way home from Florida. Staff is always welcoming. Great options for breakfast. Quiet and clean

The refrigerator was broken. The toilet paper roll was very low, which tells me the room didn’t get much attention prior to me arriving. The complimentary breakfast was missing items. There’s a waffle batter dispenser that remained empty the entire time, and no waffle maker. Room smelled musty.
