I booked this hotel as it stated it had a lift. On arrival the family room was on 1st floor on side of hotel that doesn’t have a lift. The side that does have a lift is under renovation. One of my party uses a wheelchair. The alternative room I was offered was on the ground floor, not wheelchair accessible and the door of the room opened straight out onto the car park, and I did not feel safe to stay in that room. Please do not stay here. No offer of a refund or credit note from receptionist

I would say it was average. We didn’t have enough towels so had to go to reception to get some. They gave us some straight away. We have been staying there twice a year for nearly 14 years and this was the worst room we have ever had. Water was hot in the night but couldn’t get any hot water in the morning in the sink. The shower was hot though but not much pressure. We have always had a bath and shower when we’ve stayed before but this time only had a shower. Also they don’t do evening meals anymore which they haven’t done for some years now.

The pictures on the website look fine, but they do not reflect the shabby reality. Bedrooms are accessed from external doors - like an American motel. There is no obvious security and so anyone can gain direct access to the rooms. I felt very unsafe, especially as it is not in the best area of Birmingham. Entry door key did not work properly - taking several attempts to open the door and on the second day it stopped working completely and had to be reprogrammed. Carpet and walls were stained and marked. Furniture was so stained that I could not use the chair and desk was damaged. Staff took no notice of my concerns And to make matters worse I was required to pay £100 deposit against breakages, which has not yet been returned. The only plus was that the bathroom was clean - the cleaners obviously do their best, but it must be dispiriting to work in such squalid conditions

Facilities did not work, low standards of cleanliness, curtains falling apart. Soft bed and hard pillows that smelt. No lifts on my block and I was staying on 4th floor. Complicated room layout. The positive was that the area was quiet.

Good amount of parking and a nice Ironing setup in room itself to cater to business clients. TV with free view channels and internet was decent speed. Well mannered staff. Food was average and there is a deposit to prevent people breaking hotel things. Not part of any chain and a good hotel apartment. Have a small Tesco shop near by where most of the things can be bought.

Room was not the same as the photo. Stains on the carpet. Pillows were super thin. Funny smell in the room. Could hear all the noise outside. Went to have a shower and the water was yellow. I would not recommend staying here at all.

Pictures looked lovely on booking site but hotel is anything but. It is dirty, dusty, unkept - I found a mouldy sock under the bed. The towels were threadbare and pillow very lumpy. There was a smell of damp in the room. Rusty metal fixings everywhere.

Dirty stained sheets in first room and dirty tissues behind the desk where I found the remote control. Moved room and the sheets were stained in there as well. Light hanging off the wall by its wire. Dust everywhere No hot water in the Morning unless you turn the towel rad on (in this heat!!!) At 1am the “let’s see who can slam their door the loudest” started and lasted for about an hour. Receptionist was helpful and apologetic though. Won’t be staying there again.

For a budget stay within walking distance of Birmingham city centre, this did the trick. The welcome at reception was pleasant enough, there was ample parking space and the bed was comfy. The room was clean although looked a little tired. It did what we needed for a one night stay.

Upon arrival we were keys to a room, which had already been allocated ! We were quickly given keys to another room. The room was basic and dated, but we only needed somewhere to lay our heads for the night. Tea/ Coffee sachets were damp: shower took 10minutes to warm up: walls paper thin - we could hear next door conversation word for word!

The hotel was well worn lots of fittings shabby, well worn, broken or loose. Set against that the sheets were clean, a decent breakfast was served and it was relatively cheap.

Great location for city centre, however it looks like a motel from the outside, the room had no bin and no shelf in the shower, no plugs in sink or shower and no heating so it felt like staying in a prison. Thankfully all we did was sleep there. These rooms are not designed to spend a long time in.

I was on a personal trip rather than my usual business so decided to treat myself to a little luxury. With this in mind I ignored the standard, shunned the premium & the superior rooms and decided it would be the luxury of an executive room for me. The guy on reception was great and was really helpful and chatty throughout my stay. However the room was nothing like the executive experience I was expecting. It was only just adequate and the most basis room I had stayed in for a long time. Several of the fixtures needed attention and I'm sure if the hotel inspector visited she would have something to say. However it was clean and the bed was comfortable. Parking was free and easy.

Run down, dirty, noisy. Not really a 'hotel', converted council block which needs a lot of updating. Room was very dirty, bed sheets didn't cover the bed. Bathroom was relatively modern but cold shower was not enjoyable. Neighbours smoked outside my room which seeped in through the door, very noisy can hear everything each side of you. A lot of money for the room! Do not stay here

It’s okay. Looks dated from the outside and looks more like a motel rather than a hotel. Dated inside aswell but clean and beds are fairly comfy. Due to the warm weather the rooms are very hot and no fans and windows only open 1 inch. Breakfast was fairly good if you like a full English.

Second time staying at the Apollo. First time wasn’t so great, had a bedroom just of an open walkway, large gaps in the door where the wind blow through. This time however, I had a room within one of the blocks, the room was basic but comfortable, bed and pillows were good the room was nice and warm and the breakfast was adequate.

Booked a room to attend the T20 Cricket. Was able to check in early, brilliant! But told that the beds had not been fully made but would be by the time we returned later that evening. Put the bags in our room, and discovered that when the toilet flushed, water poured out of the bottom and all over the floor. Told reception who made a note. Returned to room in the evening to discover, toilet still leaked, beds not made. Reception then gave us pillow cases to put on beds ourselves. Upon checkout we told reception again about the issues, who then told us that we were supposed of been moved to a different room, but this clearly never happened or even told that this was to happen. At least there was parking…

Good service at reception on arrival very helpful and friendly room really nice spotless bathroom. Breakfast cooked to order excellent but served 7-9am a bit early on a Sunday.

Room was clean (although the daily housekeeping was pointless - just emptied the bins, cups and spoon was still dirty). Very warm, quiet room. Some furnishings worn but bed and pillows very comfortable. Building is unique but not a problem like mentioned in previous reviews. Room was clean (although the daily housekeeping was pointless - just emptied the bins, cups and spoon was still dirty). Very warm, quiet room. Some furnishings worn but bed and pillows very comfortable. Building is unique but not a problem like mentioned in previous reviews. I didn't have any cause to eat or go to the bar so can't comment on that. Check in and out very friendly and efficient. Travelled alone and felt safe, I would definitely stay again

The hotel is very cheap, but that comes at the cost of cleanliness—it’s not clean at all. Worse, I witnessed the manager being openly racist to another guest, telling him to “go back to the streets,” swearing at him, and using incredibly foul language. It was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had in a hotel.

This property needs a revamp it's tired. Outside more like a 1960s hostel than hotel. Dirty outside, cigarette ends and rubbish. Poor fittings, one room smelly and we were moved... Bigger room but no heating, radiator broken and leaking. Heated bathrail broken. Staff were helpful but overwhelmed. Expensive for what it is. Better places to spend your money.

Room was clean and warm. Breakfast was excellent and staff went out of their way to serve us. Bringing bacon butties for our daughters who weren’t going to get up in time. This was offered to us not requested. Simply outstanding service!

For a budget stay within walking distance of Birmingham city centre, this did the trick. The welcome at reception was pleasant enough, there was ample parking space and the bed was comfy. The room was clean although looked a little tired. It did what we needed for a one night stay.

Last review I made about the Apollo, I didn't realise there was remedial work going on, which has now been rectified..I would visit this hotel again for it's location, it's privacy and within easy reach of the city.

Our suite was brilliant, very quite and warm. Great location Beefeater across the road, about 10 minute drive to bullring which costs about £10.00. Would definitely stay here again.

Great location for Overnight stay whilst in Broad street end of Brum. Clean and basic . It isn’t as if you spend much time in room as you want to be out and about . If you want fancy pay your money and go elsewhere. Would I stay again .Yes.

Good location and easy public transport into the city centre for a busy December weekend. Very friendly staff, easy parking and a good price. We chose the superior room so weren't in the ground floor motel style rooms, although we only used the hotel for sleeping.

We were looking for a hotel a short distance to the Test match at Edgbaston with parking. Despite some poor reviews on line we were nicely surprised. The buildings are relatively old but the rooms were clean and tidy. The staff were all very helpful and the breakfast was tasty. We were able to leave our car all day while we were at the Test match free of charge. It fitted our requirements nicely and the TGI Fridays across the road was a good option for an evening meal and beer.

I was apprehensive about staying at this hotel because of previous reviews. But pleased that it wasn't so bad. The room was clean, I found the bed comfortable, and the shower over the bath worked perfectly. The towels were clean and very soft. Lovely breakfast. I would stay here again if I needed to travel to this location. Only thing I would say though is that the weather was very hot when we stayed and there wasn't any air conditioning units. My stay at this hotel was due to another hotel that I had booked with no longer being able to honour our booking.

I would say it was average. We didn’t have enough towels so had to go to reception to get some. They gave us some straight away. We have been staying there twice a year for nearly 14 years and this was the worst room we have ever had. Water was hot in the night but couldn’t get any hot water in the morning in the sink. The shower was hot though but not much pressure. We have always had a bath and shower when we’ve stayed before but this time only had a shower. Also they don’t do evening meals anymore which they haven’t done for some years now.

Shabby outside, but fresh and modern interiors. For half the price of a chain hotel it was very hard to beat. Excellent and huge breakfast too, but be sure to prebook it!

My room was clean & tidy, with quality bed linen and fluffy towels in the bathroom. In the bathroom the sanitary ware was fine, although the vertical rail that supported the detachable shower hose was detached at the top and needs refixing. Also the bath needs a rubber mat inside as there is nothing to stop guests slipping whilst showering. I slipped this morning but thankfully came to no harm. There is a TESCO Express next door to the Apollo hotel and a Boots Optician branch however there are no other shops within easy walking distance (that I found). The Apollo currently has only breakfast provision in-house but there is a great Chef & Brewer about a quarter of a mile down the Hagley Rd that my wife and I visited twice and thought was excellent. There are other eateries but we only tried the Premier Inn restaurant (used to be a Beefeater) which was bland and soulless with a restricted menu. There were only two staff on duty, so perhaps the less said the better. The waitress assured me that there are plans to reestablish a full Beefeater on the site, but till that happens I would give that restaurant a miss.

I was Woken up at 7am to somone knocking at my door. Initially ignored it as I was super hung over after a night out with a friend. Then somone tried the door handle and knocked again then kept trying the handle. Jumped up opened the door some random guy asking if I had water in my toilet I was so confused ' I'm like yes I have water in my toilet ' I go to close the door he then puts his foot in the door stopping me from closing it. My initial thought is that I'm going to wrap this guy up in the middle of the landing he has not identified him self as staff and his trying to gain entry to what is essentially my property at this time. I open the door fully I ask him what are you doing. Now I'm a big guy he clearly didn't want it, I know I can handle self! He immediately backs off then asks me ' do you have water on the floor' Iam like what are you talking about! I shut the door then I hear the receptionist start yelling at him saying she's going to call the police. I immediately get dressed go to the reception I speak to her and she' like I' so sorry this guy has been lurking around trying to gain access to various rooms in middle of the night ,he seems to be having a mental health issue. Now I deal with these types of people as a living he's not having a mental health issue he is trying his luck. My thoughts are for the vulnerable people that cant protect themselves police was contacted and gave a statement and details. I should have restrained him and then called the police!!

Bathroom doors we unable to close.We only stayed there a night (thanks god). At the reception,we were given a card to a room, nothing was said about breakfast or a bar .
