Sussex Motel

The room was lovely and huge, newly renovated with a giant TV with streaming services. Bathroom was small but clean and great water pressure. Outside, though, the hotel looked very run down with little lighting at night.

The picture that Expedia shows of the motel is NOTHING like it actually is. The parking lot is a mess, nothing but pot holes. Pulling in it looked like a homeless shelter and I wish I could have turned around and driven away. You can believe I stripped the bed and check for bugs. The water in the tub ran constantly, the rug on the stairs was disgusting, looked like it had not seen a vacuum in a LONG time. I usually bring my own pillow, wish I had this time, "My Pillow" does not cut it. For the price I paid, NO WAY would I recommend Expedia, you really should VET the places you list and rate them accordingly or not list them at all, in this case.

We loved staying at this motel for the small town, personalized feel. The owner was very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. There are also a couple tables with chairs outside which were nice for relaxing. They've clearly updated furnishings in the room to make them homey and comfortable. They are newer owners and continuing to make updates.

Did not like the locks on the door. Could not get one to work at all and it took some work to get the other one to work. Very limited parking.

The parking lot is in rough shape but everything else was fine. There were plenty of parking spaces.

The Sussex Motel is one of those simple 1960's era motels that are fast disappearing. You know the type: drive up and park right in front of your door, you have an old fashioned metal key, the room is spacious enough to sleep 12, if you had to. But, the place has been modernized -- and nicely at that. It's clean, everything works, the water pressure is forceful and the staff is delightful. One thing, though: there is no one manning a front desk, so you must have a cell phone to check in. You call the number posted on the office door, and the charming young lady who runs the motel comes out, greets you, hands you that old fashioned key and gives you the run-down on all the sites and eateries and taverns within a 5-mile radius of the motel. Couldn't ask for better than that! Very good, all around.

I had a family reunion on a Saturday in Warwick, NY, and my 18-year-old daughter and I drove up the night before from Virginia. Knowing we’d be arriving very late, I was looking for something affordable just to stay the night, attend the reunion, and head back home the next day. We stayed at the Sussex Inn Motel, located about 30 minutes from the reunion site, and I was very happy with our stay. We arrived a little after midnight, but the motel owner texted me ahead of time to confirm our arrival and provided clear instructions on how to access our room using the lockbox. The room was spacious, very clean, and had everything we needed, including enough towels. We were able to park directly in front of our room, which was convenient. We briefly met the owner in the morning; she was very welcoming and kind. The motel is not fancy, but it was perfect for a short, no-frills stay. My daughter and I both felt safe throughout the night. The only things we would have liked to see: a full-length mirror in the room and a deadbolt on the front door for added peace of mind. We did notice that the door had to be pulled firmly to latch completely; at one point, it wasn’t closed tightly and blew open with the wind. Despite that small issue, I would definitely stay here again. It was clean, comfortable, and affordable...just what we needed. Plus, there is a Dunkin’ just 0.2 miles up the road, and the Holland American Bakery, only 0.4 miles away, sells drip coffee for just 25 cents!

Jackie was wonderful and quick to respond to any questions. The outside could use some updates, but it seems like that’s in the works as the front office is currently under renovation! It’ll be nice to have the exterior match the updated coziness of the rooms themselves which were amazing! I would stay here again.

Great value for the price. Dog friendly, paid a modest cleaning fee. Excellent location. Very quiet. Family business. A/C works great. Jackie will treat you right.

They took an older motel and made the rooms really cute and cozy. We really enjoyed staying there and will book again if we are in the area. Rooms were very clean

A very nice sized room for a motel, and very clean and comfortable.

My shower didn't work and there was a layer of dust everywhere. My feet were covered in hair and dust. But it's an $80 a night motel. It is what it is. The beds were hard and loud. But it was warm, safe, and a place to sleep while on business.

The outside of the motel needs updating, as it looks like something out of an episode of breaking bad. However, the inside is quite charming. The front office was not as pleasant as the gentleman running it was unkempt and it smelled terrible. The room was cozy and pretty, although our towels had holes in them (large ones). For the price, you get what you get.

This place was a great find. The room was like being in your own little house. Clean and comfortable and very quiet. I am definitely staying there again when I’m in the area.

Jackie was amazing! Check in was super fast and easy, and the room was immaculate. My only negative was my room smelled so bad of old cigarette smoke and my 12 year old didn’t feel well after the first night. The smell was super strong.

The room and bathroom was very clean. The bed was somewhat comfortable. Suggest a mattress and comforter upgrade. The decor was very nice. Big screen TV. Plenty of shops within minutes. Reasonably priced. The building could use a "face lift". Overall a good stay.

I have to admit, I was a bit worried when I pulled up to this place. Looks really sketchy from the outside. The manager was cleaning my room when I arrived and asked me just to wait an extra five minutes. Pleasantly surprised to see a very modern, newly renovated room that was about the cleanest hotel room I’ve ever been in. Retro large fridge and microwave, along with seating area and table. Well appointed, shampoos conditioners, and a blow dryer. Don’t judge a book by its cover!

The outside has no curb appeal - driveway and parking lot needs resurfacing. Very dark rooms - no overhead lighting. Bed was very lumpy and uncomfortable.

The room was beautiful (#21) and newly renovated. The only thing that we were nervous about was the ill fitting door. It locked but we could see daylight all around the edge which meant there was always a cold draft. Other than that, it was ideal. We stayed for 3 days and would stay again!

We had a really good time here. We stayed here since it was close to Mountain Creek. The room was very nice and had nice amenities such as the spacious fridge with a freezer, microwave, and toiletries such as body wash and shampoo if you needed it. We also liked the smart tv too since we just signed into our apps. Overall the place was really nice and just like it’s pictures.

I would give this a five if not for the exterior. That being said, never judge a book by its cover! As we walked in the room, my wife's first words were, "this is cute." We could see and smell how clean it was. Above and beyond clean. The towels were fresh and so were the bed sheets. Restroom was impeccable. Big TV and good WiFi. When my wife found out it was pet friendly, she couldn't believe it because usually those places don't clean properly. We don't have pets; however, this was not the case. The beds seemed to be new. My kids loved it too.

It was very obvious when we walked into our room, that this cute, quaint, retro Motel is a passion project for the owners.  They put a lot of effort into making the rooms comfortable, clean and one of a kind.  This is not your typical cookie cutter Motel experience.  Each room has a theme.  We stayed in the Pink room, with colorful towels, bed linens, curtains, etc.  The room had kitchy, retro elements such as a teal blue, retro style microwave and colorful artwork on the walls. The owner was so nice and accommodating to our request to check in early.  She even texted me with her personal number to check on us and let us know to contact her with any needs or requests. We enjoyed our 2 night stay here and highly recommend this Motel. A few suggestions -  A coffee maker in the room, although there is a Dunkin Donuts about a third of a mile up the road. Access to an Ice Machine. Note - They are in the process of remodeling the exterior.  I am sure when they are done it is going to be the cutest mid- century modern destination spot.

We loved it. It looks like an older motor lodge, but the rooms are wonderful. Large and cozy. We had a full sized fridge and even a little kitchen table. The room was clean and the beds were cozy.

We were in the area for a wedding and booked Sussex Motel for the night. Right away, I was impressed by Jackie's friendly and helpful welcoming. She was so kind and told me to call her anytime if we needed anything at all. The rooms were impeccably clean and well appointed. When we checked out the next day, Jackie bid us farewell and encouraged us to reach out to her directly next time we're in the area and need a nice place to stay. We will definitely do so!

Ok, the staff tried... But a check in time ending at 9pm is awfully early, and the room and bed REEKS of perfumed cleaner. We had the staff bring us each a change of bedding and it's still clinging to my skin and made it so hard to sleep I seriously considered sleeping in my car. Staff mentioned maybe it was due to a cat staying previously, but it's like someone doused the mattress with febreeze. Rooms are like cheap Airbnb decor, exterior is pretty run down. If I didn't feel like I was marinating in air freshener I'd call it "fine" but at it is, gross.

Needed a place close to Mountain Creek to stay for a Spartan race I did over the weekend. This was a great place to stay, clean, close to a few restaurants, and Jackie the Manager was very friendly and nice. If I ever need a place to stay around this area again, I will book here if available.

I knew exactly what I wanted and what I was getting when I booked a roadside motel in farmland New Jersey. The exterior could use some love, but the room was so clean, fresh, cute, comfortable, and well-appointed. The area doesn't look like much on Google Maps but there is actually quite a lot going on. If you're going to Mountain Creek resort, this is a fine option.

I enjoyed my stay at the Sussex Motel. It was perfectly located near High Point State Park, Port Jervis, and Matamoras. I was able to have a nice vacation in a place that I have not had the chance to stay at for a long period of time.

Very clean basic accommodation. Convenient for activities at Sussex fairgrounds.

As other reviews have said, do not pre-judge the motel by the outside of the building , the inside of the rooms is very nice and seems remodeled. We got exactly what we paid for - there a few diners/restaurants nearby, but the main point was to be close to Mountain Creek to start early in the morning there which is exactly what is what it was! Super easy check-in, and no issues at all.

We stayed there to ski at Mountain Creek. It was very convenient, very friendly staff, rooms are clean and comfortable and offer all amenities. I have to say that it was the first time I book a motel room, but it was better than a lot of hotel rooms I've booked before.
