Kawada Hotel

One night stay. Very convenient in dowtown Los Angeles. Close to Little Tokyo, to the transportations, and the Grand Central Market. The room is small but was perfect for 2 single beds. Microwave, fridge and AC in the room. The shower works well. A little outdated but still great. No breakfast available. Warm welcoming staff.

Being made aware of the parking details in advance would have been helpful, especially regarding $40 valet parking with in-and-out privileges or $40 nearby parking without in-and-out privileges.

In the heart of DTLA, good location for an LA trip. Parking is incredibly expensive and not included in the hotel price. There is a parking lot on the same street, which is a lot more reasonable. The room was small but effective. No frills, simple and clean.

Late night check in and the staff was both accommodating and friendly which was much appreciated. Smaller rooms w minimal amenities but the hotel is near immaculate and staff is amazing This hotel is right near the market but if you are bringing a vehicle there is a $40 valet charge

I arrived close to midnight to check in so things got bumpy in regards to parking. They don’t have onsite parking and if you pay them basically it’s a valet service. Not bad but the attendant told me parking down the street was $10 and pointed me to that option instead. Not the best idea at midnight in downtown so just pay the $40 parking. The room was very small but clean and doable since we would only be sleeping a few hours. We were there for the Dodgers parade. Perfect place to stay since we were just 2 blocks from the route. Only bad part was at the end trying to get out of there. The crowds took over the street so we just had to wait about an hour and a half after the parade was over. Overall the stay was fine and I would stay there again.

Great overall experience. Clean and reasonably priced. Great laundry room was a bonus. Close to Grand Central Market which is an awesome food court. Only downsides were tiny rooms (European-like) and expensive parking.

Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Valet parking was a little pricey but the 24 hour valet made it very convenient. I would stay there again

The reason for the low rating is one there was no hot water due to faulty boiler. Second the parking was only valet and they charge a lot to park your car and it did not state this on website when i booked the room!!

Room was small but expected. Hot water took approx 20 minutes then was just warm. Great distance to Disney concert hall and Grand Market. Easy check in. Nothing spectacular, nothing bad. No onsite parking. Had to valet park for $40 night charge. Will stay again

For the price we paid, this hotel is not worth it. There is no gym, no pool and the room is old. It is outdated. It is a solid 3 star because it had the necessary amenities, like a microwave, minifridge, kettle, hairdryer, etc. You are paying for the location, maybe? We stayed there for just one night, and that was just to freshen up and sleep.

The pictures look much better than the actual room. The room was very very small and bed was very uncomfortable. Walls super thin, and we had very loud stompers above us. Everything is very old and not great condition. You can’t open any windows, so no fresh air, and the hotel smells pretty bad. They use heavy chemical air fresheners that just make it smell worse. Positives are that it’s close to everything in DTLA and the staff was very friendly, especially Derek! He was really helpful and attentive. For the price we probably wouldn’t stay here again as we didn’t really sleep well with all the noise and old uncomfortable bed, and weird smells.

Check-in process was quick and smoothly. The property is in the middle of downtown so that was a convenience in itself. The only downside to my stay was the bed sheets having very light but noticeable stains.

I love the location. I had accessories to cheaper parking within ealking distance. Clean for an older hotel. Now the negatives. The floor was very uneven i literary was tilting while walking from bathroom to bed. The bathroom door kept closing on me while in the bathroom. The spout on sink was splattered amd so was wall with ehat looked like toothpaste. The floor was sticky and so was handle on bathroom door. The room was ridiculously small.

Our room was not properly cleaned & when informing the front desk they explained they were full and they would refund us if we wanted to find other accommodations. It was 8pm & we didn’t have any option but to stay in the room and sleep in unmade sheets and an uncleaned bathroom.

I was assigned a small room, and when I went into the bathroom to get cleaned up, I saw a cockroach coming out from the air conditioner. After that, it was really hard for me to sleep comfortably. Although the room looked clean on the outside, the inside didn’t feel very well-maintained. It was actually my first time seeing a cockroach in a hotel, and it was quite unsettling.

Was looking for a last minute hotel that was close to event and wasn’t overly expensive. This was perfect! Pros: Bed was comfortable. Refrigerator and Microwave. HD TV. Cons: No closet. Bathroom was pretty small. The shower was ridiculous small. Like you really couldn’t move without hitting something. I had to shower with the door open just to have some room. My room was also an accessible room. It wasn’t accessible. I would stay there again.

the hotel is in a convenient location downtown, but the air-conditioning unit in the room was very loud, almost like having a vacuum cleaner running. I was on the third floor, but noise from traffic, and sirens from the street were also extremely loud and disturbing. Perhaps they can install double-paned windows to keep the noise level down.

The rooms are small (like inexpensive European hotel rooms), but have a desk and couch. Nice to have the mini-fridge and microwave. The walls are pretty thin...I clearly heard a conversation through the wall as I was trying to fall asleep. It's no-frills, but a good option if you're on a budget. Clean and safe...that's what I needed for my one-night stay.

It was a small room but didn't feel small. It was well organized, and the fridge/microwave would be great for a longer stay.

Like others have commented, the room we had was very small, I think the bathroom was bigger than the sleeping area. Not really an issue for us, as we didn’t spent much time in the room. Water Pressure was solid. It was clean and quiet enough. The A/C unit in the room is loud when it kicks on. The staff was friendly and the location is great, especially with access to the Metro Light Rail system. There are two stations less than a block away giving you access to the entire Metro system.

The shower is not good. It is difficult to understand how to control the hot water and it takes a long time for the water to turn into hot water. The water is also weak. It is hard to get the shampoo out.

Rooms are small and no closet, but clean and bed and pillows were very comfortable. Also appreciated in room coffee and fridge. We stayed at another boutique hotel a couple of months ago in LA that did not have either.

My husband and I stayed here. I stayed for one night on August 16th. I was shocked by how small the queen room was. I do not recommend this place for two or more people in one room; this room is more convenient for one person. The location was the best part of the stay. You are a 3-minute walk from Grand Central and near other shops, so it is easy to walk to.

Great location. Clean hotel. Nice rooms, pretty restroom. Fridge, microwave, good internet, vending machine in the hotel, good water pressure. I could've stayed longer. The desk is nice, enough outlets for connecting devices (which is not too common). The things that could be better: * the shower could be better directed. * you can hear the hallway (meaning the hallway can probably hear you). * the desk is nice, but the desk is too tall relative to the chair or the chair is too short relative to the chair. Good hotel, definitely recommend.

Was great except the house keeping ladies were sooo fn loud talking to each other at 8 in the morning they woke us up! No reason staff should be that loud that early in the morning, especially if I’m paying $200 per night. Other than that the room kinda smelled like piss upon entry but those are my only complaints! Tiny rooms, No bed bugs found and it was in a great location! Might come back if they train their staff to shut the f up at least before 11am, if they were even that loud at 10 I would totally understand. If your looking to get good sleep and sleep in, stay away from this place and look someone else no matter how good of a “deal” you think your getting.

Amazing Staff

Very friendly staff. Quick to use valet parking. Elevator was kind of inconvenient with the keycard but I appreciate the safety security at the same time. Room was like the pics. Simple, clean and quiet.

In town on business, after the band I manage finished their show I checked in at 1am. After a long check in process, I finally get to my room and looking forward to a hot shower and going to bed. For some reason, the bathroom door was locked. I called the front desk to ask what to could be done. The front desk told me they would be up when they could, but they were the only person on property and avoiding 45 minutes for them to unlock the bathroom door shouldn’t have been locked in the first place. The staff member was unapologetic. The single bed was horrible, I was so tired so finally fell asleep but it was definitely disappointing. Upon checkout, I reiterated the problems with the clerk on duty, and she was also unapologetic and didn’t care. I have left messages for the hotel manager to call me and have heard nothing. Hope this reviews saves somebody money and time, a Super 8 would have been an upgrade.

Had the privacy sign at the door but got a knock from housekeeping at 7am, 9am, and 10:30am when checkout was at 11am. I called front desk to explain what was happening and someone with a horrible attitude and verbatim said” are u sure it was 3 knocks and hung up in my face.” She called back and then said “okay do you want to check out at 1pm” we responded yes thats fine. At 12:30 received a phone call from her saying ur check out was at 12. So very confused. The people in the other rooms were so loud playing loud music very late at night. You can hear everything. Bed was very uncomfortable and outdated. For an expensive priced room i think the hotel can do better than dial soap and shampoo.

Happy with our stay at Kawada. We were able to check in early after a 14 hour flight from Australia which was great.

We stayed for two nights. Everything was great. The staff was friendly. The room was clean. There were several restaurants closer but we walked to Grand Central Market. Public transportation is within walking distance. We had a nice time!

I had a man following me outside and into the lobby, the next morning there was a naked man in the street outside, staff were not surprised by my experience. The hotel itself was great, the area was not for a single woman.

I stayed at Kawada Hotel recently, and was happy with my stay. The hotel is located less than five minutes’ walk from two Metro rail stations, Civic Center/Grand Park Station and the new Historic Broadway Station. Civic Center/Grand Park Station is only one stop from Union Station, so the hotel is a great place for a stopover. From Union Station, you can catch the Flyaway Bus to and from LAX. The trains from Civic Center/Grand Park Station also run directly to Hollywood/Highland Station, where you can go to Hollywood Boulevard and the many tourist attractions there. The trains from Historic Broadway Station run directly to Exposition Park and Downtown Santa Monica. The room I stayed in was fairly small, but comfortable, with a fridge, microwave oven, and desk. The hotel is good value for Downtown LA, but considerably nicer and more modern than another hotel I stayed at in the area. The hotel staff were courteous and helpful, including at check-in, and when I needed to borrow an iron and ironing board. I find Downtown LA a rather odd and unnerving area at times, especially at night, mainly due to not many people being around, which is very unusual for a downtown/CBD area. However, Kawada Hotel is definitely in the nicer and somewhat busier part of Downtown LA. For example, it is very close to Grand Central Market, various tourist attractions, such as The Broad, and a number of pubs and nightclubs. Overall, I was happy with my stay and would definitely stay there again.

Perfectly located very central

This is a great little cost efficient hotel in the Arts District. Very very clean. Your basic bed - comfortable. Heat, hot water, micro, fridge, extra towels, extra TP all in room to start. So convenient. Great location. Felt very safe.

Everything was awesome except if you go down like 5 streets then you will encounter a lot of drug addicts and garbage on the streets. Is old downtown LA. But the hotel was 10/10 for that price

The hotel was fine. You get what you pay for. The room was small, but I was only in town for a few days so no big deal. Not much in terms of amenities. No gym and no on site restaurant, so no room service. Nothing for sale in the hotel, so if you forget anything like toothpaste, razor etc., you would have to leave the hotel to buy it. The location was very convenient and there are a couple of places right next to the hotel for breakfast, dinner etc. Overall, ok. The price was very reasonable for downtown LA.

There is a great bar around the corner think it's called Redwood live music great food . We were only stayed over night ,hotel was close to union station 5 min taxi ride

Doesn’t claim to be a 5-star hotel and it isn’t, but it is a well-kept, convenient place if you want to be near: Union Station, multiple art museums, Disney Concert Hall, the Jewelry District, Olvera St., a great place to eat (Hill Street Bar & Restaurant - right next door - go there), Grand Central Market, etc. etc. No complaints!

It started off alright, considering I saw on the listing that parking was free. But when I asked about overnight parking that was $40. So that was misleading. They don't have continental breakfast. And there were a few hairs in the shower.

Pleasant hotel in downtown Los Angeles near the Music Center, Disney Hall, and several good museums. Even though my room was on the small side, it was quiet and clean, the bed was comfortable, and there were a microwave, a fridge, and a water heater for coffee or tea in the room. The water heater did not work well. A full cup of water in the tank generated a half cup of instant coffee. The rest of the water steamed into the air. The bathroom was compact, but with a large enough corner shower to be able to turn around in. I suggest the hotel has all the windows washed. They look truly filthy! Reception personnel was very pleasant. Valet parking is available at an extra $40/day charge. Too bad the attached restaurant is not open on weekends for breakfast or dinner.

For the price that you pay the Hotel is perfect! I didn't want to rent a car in LA and the hotel was close by all the metro lines I needed to do what I wanted in the city. (Santa Monica, Clippers Games, Hollywood, etc.) You are also very close to the Grand Central Market which is great because it's one of the best places to eat something in DTLA. The staff was really quick and receptive. I would recommend if you come to DTLA.

Hotel is very near civic center metro station which is only 1 stop away from union station to catch flyaway bus to LAX. Nearby is the Grand Central market which you can grab food. Room is small but clean. No free parking so I parked at the opposite building overnight.
