Check-in was smooth and easy with a welcome drink. After checking in, we walked to our rooms and found it to be spacious and nicely furnished, however the interior seems a bit outdated with wooden panel walls that has a old funk. We noticed the towels and shower robes also smelling like it. Given we are in/near nature, there were plenty of bugs outside the perimeter as well as some creepy crawlers inside. There was a bug's leg on the night stand. A few days into our stay after showering, there were a lot of small looking insects that came out of the wooden panels on the floor outside the bathroom. We notified front desk and had maintenance come clean it a few times to get rid of it. They said it is common during wet seasons and I noticed they came out after I took a shower. Staff were always friendly, helpful, and nice. Breakfast is located upstairs on the second floor and they have good varieties. I especially liked the fried cheese. We thought there was a garden but we walked around the premises and couldn't find it. We did howver spot some coatis and birds while walking around. This is a small hotel located on a hill walkable to a lot of local restaurants. There is a plaza across the street that seems to be the main bus hub so if you need to make any transportation arrangements it should be easy. I like the location for the convenience. The hotel is 15-20 minutes walk to shops and restaurants near Santa Elena which we really enjoyed.

Stayed for 3 days in March and found the hotel to be excellent. The room was spacious and well-equipped with good quality bedding, towels, and bathroom amenities. The front desk and restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was excellent. Breakfast was included (buffet) and it was well prepared with lots of choices. Overall, we were very happy with our stay and would stay again.

My family of 4 spent 2 nights at the Ficus Hotel / Sunset suites. The property of the hotel is absolutely gorgeous. It is exceptionally well cared for. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were greeted immediately with drinks provided to all 4 of us. While we checked in our bags were brought to our room. The rooms were exceptionally clean and spacious. The breakfast was excellent with a diverse selection. We explored all the of the trails within the region seeing diverse wildlife, including a coati and an a mother and baby agouti. The location was great, close to the shopping and food which included a walk through the trails. We would definitely stay here again and recommended.

We paid for a garden view, but what we actually got was a view of a 8 feet high bush which was so close to our window that it blocked out most light and any view. The staff weren’t keen to resolve this as apparently that was ‘the garden’. The manager was conveniently in holiday and no one was left with the authority to resolve the problem. They finally offered to change our room in the last night of our stay, but so late in the day that if we had taken up the offer, we would have missed the trip we had booked. Hobsons choice. Really not what I expect for £300 per night. I wouldn’t book here again.
