Seven Gables Inn on Monterey Bay, A Kirkwood Collection Hotel

This adorable B&B has beautiful views of the ocean. It offers excellent breakfast, a wine happy hour, and a cookie happy hour nightly. The lobby has a scrapbook of the history of the home.

It was beautiful, but definitely made for more of just couples and not families despite having two rooms. My kids and I are trying to take a shower at the same time and the hot water ran out very quickly. There were spiders in the rooms, although not much and aside from that, it was very, very clean. Parking was very annoying. There’s only four spaces up at the front and then at the rest is street parking. It is beautiful and peaceful, but do not recommend it for families.

Beautiful reception and dining areas. It's so nice and quiet. Only noise were the seagulls but thankfully, they stopped once it got dark. No problems with noise from our neighboring rooms in the Main House. Was great being able to walk to Lover's Point and Cannery Row, and nearby restaurants!

Bed is super soft, and my handicap husband and I were given an upstairs room. He had a hard time on the stairs. No pets allowed with no air conditioning, so we slept with the windows open. Second floor, we didn’t think anything of it, Until our second night I woke up to a cat walking across my legs in bed. Staff said it was the neighbors cat, but gave us no warning that a cat could get into our room (glad my husband did not have an allergic reaction.) View and locations is amazing, this property is just not for us, I would not visit it again.

A welcoming greeting with a glass of bubbles. Room was small but well situated. Nice to have tea, water and coffee in the room. Bed was too soft for us. Their wine happy hour was delayed but that was okay because the wine was not that good. We had a nice view from our room. Definitely recommend. The parlor and other sitting areas of the Inn are beautiful. Gorgeous furniture, art work and treasures to admire. Breakfast was plentiful. Fruit, eggs, cereal etc… although vegetarian. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The freshly baked cookies in the evening a delicious treat!

Beautifully restored Victorian buildings and well-appointed rooms. The facilities are steps away from the ocean. Easy walking to restaurants and shops.

The hospitality here was outstanding! Excellent B&B atmosphere, with a wine hour in the main house as well as evening pastries. Breakfast options were delicious and included some gluten-free options as well. On street parking was easy and scenery beautiful! 10/10 Will definitely stay here again!

Beautiful old house with amazing views of the ocean and bay! Unfortunately our room had a bad musty smell and even with airing, every time we entered the room it hit us. No bellman so my husband had already carried our bags up the stairs.The pretty bed hangings looked so faded. Our shower needed grout to cover the black moldy areas. Don’t expect to feel pampered as no room cleaning/refreshing service. If you want more filtered water, take your bottle downstairs to be refilled. Ask for anything you need at the desk. Coffee (other than self service bag coffee) was only available in the dining room from 8 am til 10 am with breakfast. Starbucks is close by if you can’t wait. From 4 to 6 pm wine and bar cookies were served in the living rooms where the view was beautiful. Just before I left on my third morning they texted accusing me of having a dog in room because a maid had heard a dog. No dogs allowed except service dogs. No television to have on and I was sitting quietly in my room, so they should have checked more before accusing me of having a dog. The breakfast staff were great and very helpful. The food selection was large and the food was very good. The breakfast and breakfast room views did not disappoint! The garden areas were small but very pretty!

Check in was great and front desk staff took us to our room. The room overlooked the ocean. It was a high ceiling with antique-looking fixtures and furniture. We would definitely come again.

The property is beautiful. We had paid over what we normally pay for a room to get a boutique experience with a view for our 40th anniversary. While on vacation, I had an accident and broke my ankle in 3 places. I called hotel from emergency room to see if there was an elevator, there was not. I asked to be moved to a lower floor(we were on 2nd floor), they were full. It was late and we had a 6hr drive back home, so we had to stay. I made it up the stairs and down on my bum, in a lot of pain!!! What was most surprising, no one from hotel offered to see if there was anything we needed or were we ok or had we made it to our room. For a $800 a night hotel, I do feel that the customer service could have been better regarding this . The hotel is beautiful, just don’t break a bone, they will not be able to help in an emergency.

Not happy with the accommodations! The room is a handicapped room, very small, and that is not what I booked. I booked a premium room for our 29th Anniversary! The bathroom smells like urine and tiles are missing on the bottom decor. I checked in after 8 pm and at 8:20 I asked to be moved and Raquelle said that there was nothing that she could for for us. That she was leaving soon…not a very welcoming stay. She did not even tell me about the off street parking or any other amenities to make our stay more enjoyable. I will think twice about booking with Expedia again. There was no help and the hotel did not care. Please respond on how you will be making this stay better or crediting my account for the inconvenience on our 29th Anniversary.

Room was very comfortable, and the view was great. Housekeeping did not empty our trash, which was overflowing, or replenish coffee and cups

The room is beautiful! Awesome views from the rocky shore room of lovers point and the bay. Very clean! Bed was not as soft as I like it. The chairs overlooking the bay were soft and comfy. Breakfast was just ok.The staff is friendly and nice!

It was a very nice and homie environment, with great views. I did not like the fact that there was no AC in the unit. The breakfast was honestly not what we were looking for, I was expecting more. Should have been more egg options & protein options.

The beautiful decorative windows, doors, furnishings and period architectural touches throughout add to the unique charm of this property. And the views are unmatched to any other location that I have stayed. We booked the Breakers room and had a 180 degree view of the ocean. Opened the windows and enjoyed the sea air and sounds of crashing waves at night from the comfort of my room. Amazing! Will definitely return.

Great location and terrific view and room

There was no fireplace in the room, though it was listed in the room amenities. This was super disappointing as I paid more for a room that listed a fireplace.

The view cannot get any better. The bed was super comfortable and the room was very clean. It is a beautiful place to stay. I’m glad they kept it true to the time period as well.

Fantastic B&B, we only stayed for 1 night but wish we had left our previous location a day earlier to spend longer here. Everyone was so friendly and a lovely charming old house. Probably the comfiest bed I’ve slept on.

It’s a beautiful location, overall the service and staff was very nice, but the rooms are way too small for the price tag. There is no fridge for cold water, no TV in the room, the hallways smelled like curry, also if you need anything you have to go down to the lobby to get it yourself. For that price tag way overpriced. Also view is great but everyone can see into your room, you can’t enjoy the view and have privacy.

I stayed at this hotel about 34 years ago, before they did a lot of expansion.The hotel is beautiful and the room was very pretty and it was oceanfront. The problem with oceanfront at this hotel is that the road in front of the hotel is extremely loud all the way through midnight. Also, I paid a little bit more for oceanfront with a fireplace, and it was a fake mantle with an electric light that looks like a fire. I just feel like this place is so nice, it would’ve been better to either advertise that that’s what it is or don’t do it at all. Many places in this area have actual fireplaces and I’m sure that there are rooms in this hotel that have actual fireplaces, but this looked very cheap and it really was nothing more than a light.

We were celebrating our 31st anniversary and I knew I wanted to say stay someplace special which is why we chose the Seven Gables Inn as we had been there before. Facilities are beautiful and we even saw otters in the bay right from our room. Pretty amazing. And the associate who helped us check in and answerered our questions was excellent, Jenae.

Beautiful Property, But Disappointing Hospitality The location and setting of Seven Gables Inn are undeniably stunning—serene ocean views, peaceful surroundings, and a beautifully maintained Victorian-style property that feels like a step back in time. The charm of the building and attention to historical detail are truly impressive. However, our experience with the staff left a lot to be desired. Over the course of our three-day stay, every interaction with the front desk was cold and unwelcoming. None of the receptionists greeted us with a smile or made any effort to be friendly or accommodating. It was especially disheartening considering the high price point and the fact that this is a hospitality business. A particularly upsetting incident occurred when I cut my foot on a sharp edge of a Victorian side table in the lobby. It was bleeding quite a bit, and when I asked for help, the receptionist simply told me they didn’t have any band-aids—offering no concern or assistance. Upon checkout, we were asked to drop our keys without even a simple thank-you or goodbye. For a boutique inn that markets itself on charm and service, this level of disengagement was disappointing. While we were aware there wouldn’t be daily housekeeping, the lack of warmth or effort from the staff throughout our stay made the experience feel impersonal and uninviting. Unfortunately, I’d rate the service experience below a 1.

Great property. Love the girl who works here but the gentleman that checked us in wasn’t friendly. Never the less the property is five star.

All i can say our stay at this place exceeded our expectations. Wonderful and friendly staff at front desk and at breakfast. We were greeted at front desk by amazing person name Janette and was offered champagne at check in also location right across the lover point beach and walking distance to restaurants. So i would stay here again in future .

Lovely boutique hotel with a great location and incredible views of Monterey bay. Beautiful design everywhere, from the lovely gardens to the lobby and rooms. You notice the high attention to detail in every corner. Excellent service too, from the receptionist at the check-in counter to the breakfast and cleaning staff. I would love to return for a longer stay soon.

The Seven Gables Inn pills out all the stops to make their guests feel welcome and comfortable. The property is absolutely beautiful, and to be able to sit in the lobby and watch sea otters, seals, sea lions and other wildlife is pretty special. It’s a short walk to restaurants and the spectacular Monterey Bay Aquarium, and a quick and lovely drive or bike ride through 17 Mile Road to Carmel. Absolutely lovely place to stay - felt five stars all the way!

Victorian hotel with ocean views. Right across the street from the ocean. Open your windows at night and listen to the ocean and let it ease you into sleep. Take a short walk to Lover’s Point, the beach or dining. The staff is wonderful and very helpful. Can’t wait to return

It was just a so-so stay. The service was great except during breakfast. They kept announcing the breakfast closed at 10 am. I felt rushed. I was there only 10 minutes and I heard the announcement 6 times. Also, they did say a vegan breakfast. They would have eggs. They didn't have eggs but had quiche, yuck. And they were out of juices. I ended up leaving and going to the beach breakfast place a walk away. Highly disappointed breakfast. We had the Carriage Room with a beautiful ocean view. However, I was worried that the once I saw it was very low ground level when they escorted us to our room. The escort service guy said not to worry, low traffic. NOT TRUE, 90 percent of the time we had the shades closed due to high-traffic people looking in our bedroom. No ocean view. Because the side gate has no closing spring, nor a latch, people kept leaving the side gate open, hence at night large raccoons were roaming at night under our ocean-view window keeping us up. The shower head is less than 6 feet from the bottom. I'm 6 foot tall, hence had to bend over to wash my hair. The service was great up until the continental breakfast. It should be told it is a continental breakfast, not a vegan breakfast. and they should have eggs if they said so.

I am handicapped…stairs are my enemy. Next time I prefer to have a room with way less stairs. Also, breakfasts were cold even though some items should have been at least warm. I found myself craving a warm egg McMuffin.

It’s a beautiful B&B looking out over Monterey Bay. We had the Ocean Mist room and had a wonderful view of the November full moon. Gorgeous!! Breakfast was also very good!

The location is amazing! We had beautiful views from our bay-facing room. The room was clean and comfy. The one thing i feel could stand improvement was breakfast. For such a beautiful stay, the breakfast was average.
