We were on the top floor and the last floor up does not have a lift. I was grumpy about it at first but our view of the Matterhorn was so spectacular that it was worth the inconvenience. Only complaint I have is their check in was 3pm and the reception desk wasn't staffed until the. So there was no getting in our room early but we were able to store our luggage.

The hotel is good overall for the location and staff and room. The facility is little bit old. The only issue is the shuttle service. Hotel never mentioned the shuttle service is available for picking up so we went to hotel by self. When leaving, hotel arranged shuttle service to train station and claimed hotel will pay but the driver asked us to pay since hotel didn’t give him ticket. That is terrible arrangement.

Liked the property. Clean, convenient, and helpful staff. We asked for recommendation for fondue restaurant, and were told about onsite restaurant. Restaurant was empty on arrival, about 7pm. When we asked for cheese fondue-not on menu, but would make for us. We only wanted small amount to dip bread-so we got that. We are 4 older ladies…we asked about the entree fondue…it was combo turkey, beef, and pork to be cooked in a broth type fondue. We wanted to just order a small amount for us-server said it would be too little for us 4 to share, so we ordered 4-one for each. There as entirely too much food!, probably 16 oz of meat for each of us!, we ate what we could, but almost 3 servings were discarded! It was VERY expensive, and we felt like we were talked out of the size we should have ordered!,,

Hotel Excelsior was perfect for our stay in Zermatt. Our room was small but had everything we needed when we weren’t out exploring the beautiful surroundings. The provided breakfast was exceptional. Staff were very friendly and provided local recommendations upon request. The property also has a dinner restaurant which was a nice option if we didn’t want to go out. Overall I was very pleased with our stay and would definitely stay again!

The location of the hotel convenient. Our room is nice and spacious, in fact the biggest one we had during our two weeks trip. Room is clean, but unfortunately the bed is not comfortable to sleep. Our room has a balcony with view of the mountain, but unfortunately was block due to construction. The breakfast is good. The staff is friendly.

I have mixed feelings about this property. On the plus side the staff were fabulous (except the house keeping staff). The front desk staff were particularly friendly and helpful. On the downside the beds were uncomfortable and the mattresses need updating. The property had a strong smell of tobacco from years gone by and the restaurant was not always open. The biggest issue for me was the housekeeping staff who ignored do not disturb signs. This hotel has balconies which provide excellent views of the Matterhorn. However these balconies are adjoining, I was having a day of not feeling well so I put the do not disturb sign up on my room, opened the balcony door to let air in as the hotel is not air conditioned. I was laying all but naked on my bed resting when the door between the balconies opened up. The cleaner saw I was almost naked (which is not a pretty site) but then proceeded to clean the balcony. Then 2 other cleaning staff come in to clean the balcony. I ask them what they were doing saying I had the do not disturb sign up. They ignored me and said they had to clean. I was not only embarrassed but felt violated. A complaint to the front desk was handled well though. Given the negatives I would not recommend this hotel at this stage. I would like to commend the gentleman who initially checked me in (he mentioned he was from Germany) and the lady who initially addressed my complaint and checked me out. They are fantastic customer service people.

Hotel Excelsior was a very nice hotel in a very great location in Zermatt. The room was clean and modern the shower was amazing and while a small room it was very comfortable and included a balcony. There was a great view from the balcony and everything was perfect including the breakfast which was a very nice spread a very good clean food.

Overall our stay was pretty good but there is no air conditioning in the buildings so it was hard to sleep. We opened the windows which made it a bit easier to sleep. The other thing is they don’t have irons to press your clothes available. They make you pay for the pressing service. That was a disappointment as usually when you travel clothes get wrinkle. Another thing I want to mention is that they don’t provide shampoo or conditioner. Other than that it’s a pretty decent hotel to stay.

Great location and nice hotel. Room was pretty small for the price, but the balcony overlooking the stunning mountain range of Switzerland made up for it. The hotel offered a decent breakfast and you have plenty of food options nearby. Overall the hotel views were stunning and it was a decent hotel.

This hotel did an excellent job of caring for us. We were stranded in Zermatt with no power and no means of getting out of the town until the avalanche was cleared. The hotel staff went out of their way to make sure we had food and warm blankets, all with good cheer.

Very easy check in, allowed us to keep our bags at the hotel free of charge, nice breakfast spread. However, room was only equipped with one towel and one pillow and since we arrived after hours were unable to speak to staff for additional.

The staff were all welcoming and friendly making sure all of my needs were met. I had to check out early the night before my last night because we had a train to catch at 537 a.m. The staff prepared me a to-go breakfast package with water included. I was so surprised and impressed. This hotel was great to me!

The hotel location is super as it's within walking distance to pretty much everything given the size of Zermatt. Hotel breakfast is good. However, its staff all seemed new and were not knowledgeable about any local areas. The most disappointing part of it was we were asked to pay city tax again upon checking out, when in fact we were charged on city tax when checking in. this shows their lack of customer service from the hotel staff who are not paying attention to what they do.

When leaving, hotel arranged shuttle service to train station and claimed hotel will pay but the driver asked us to pay since hotel didn’t give him ticket. That is terrible arrangement.

The hotel is good overall for the location and staff and room. The facility is little bit old. The only issue is the shuttle service. Hotel never mentioned the shuttle service is available for picking up so we went to hotel by self. When leaving, hotel arranged shuttle service to train station and claimed hotel will pay but the driver asked us to pay since hotel didn’t give him ticket. That is terrible arrangement.

A nice property just a 10 minute walk from the train station. Several nice restaurants nearby. Breakfast was okay. We didn’t care for the coffee, but there was a nice selection of breads including croissants. We would stay here again.

The location of this hotel is so great - it is right in the center of town, close walk to the train station and many bars and restaurants, and the Main Street of shopping in town. It is great how breakfast is included, and the hotel is clean and nice with some rooms having a good view of the Matterhorn. I would recommend to anyone coming to Zermatt!

I love this property. My room is small but it is in good condition. I love breakfast options. The only thing to let everyone knows in advance is that it is up at the hill so please prepare for the walk and luggage.

The hotel was right in middle of town, short walk to train and lifts to skiing hiking and biking. Some construction going on next door so ask for higher floor

Overall it’s a okayish experience and the downside is it’s like a 7-8mins walk from Zermatt train station and they didn’t provide the taxi(yes, they do arrange if you have more bags as it’s a car free town) for our return journey at 6am. I think they have their own taxi but it’s kept in garage for some reason. If you have more bags, better to opt for a hotel who provides taxi during early hours like 6am. They provided the taxi at 12.30pm when we checked in though. Also, luggage storage is at your own risk because their actual storage room is full when we went at 12pm and the receptionist said “you can leave in the hall way near reception” and we were worried about it. Coming to the room, the south facing with balcony has the best direct view of Matterhorn and it’s totally worth the extra bucks!

It was in the perfect location with a window view of the Matterhorn. We loved our room and the breakfast was excellent. A lot of great choices. I would definitely return to this hotel.

Liked the property. Clean, convenient, and helpful staff. We asked for recommendation for fondue restaurant, and were told about onsite restaurant. Restaurant was empty on arrival, about 7pm. When we asked for cheese fondue-not on menu, but would make for us. We only wanted small amount to dip bread-so we got that. We are 4 older ladies…we asked about the entree fondue…it was combo turkey, beef, and pork to be cooked in a broth type fondue. We wanted to just order a small amount for us-server said it would be too little for us 4 to share, so we ordered 4-one for each. There as entirely too much food!, probably 16 oz of meat for each of us!, we ate what we could, but almost 3 servings were discarded! It was VERY expensive, and we felt like we were talked out of the size we should have ordered!,,

The view of the Matterhorn from our room balcony was magnificent! The only negative of our stay was coffee. There is no option in the room which I assume is for fire safety. When having breakfast in the dining area the coffee is served by the cup. When there are 8-20 guests at one time and one server who is hustling it's not efficient. There is no fault on the server just the system.

Hotel Excelsior was perfect for our stay in Zermatt. Our room was small but had everything we needed when we weren’t out exploring the beautiful surroundings. The provided breakfast was exceptional. Staff were very friendly and provided local recommendations upon request. The property also has a dinner restaurant which was a nice option if we didn’t want to go out. Overall I was very pleased with our stay and would definitely stay again!

Zermatt is expensive. So I was looking at something at a more favourable price and crossing my fingers it wasn’t dreadful. It turns out that this hotel was a really awesome place to stay, if you want to have a few CHF left in your pocket to enjoy the opportunities in the mountains. The rooms are small, but clean, comfortable and efficiently laid out. The breakfast was amazing. The staff were super helpful. (I forgot that the shops close for lunch and I couldn’t get my ski equipment back to the shop before my train departure. The staff member at the desk promised to take care of it. Here’s the BEST THING about this hotel: location! It’s an easy walk from the train station but not on the main street (which I imagine can be noisy) and mere steps away from a bus stop for both the red and green lines.
