Twin City Inn & Suites Benton Harbor - St. Joseph

I stayed at Howard Johnson by Wyndham Benton Harbor/St. Joseph 798 Ferguson Dr, Benton Harbor, MI 49022. Last week on 10-23-24. When riding their only working elevator to the top floor 5th to go to my room. The elevator dropped multiple times after passing the 4th floor. It made a horrible popping and banging noise and I was locked in the violently shacking elevator for 20 seconds of nightmare inducing fear until the door opened. When doing so it was misaligned bouncing by over a foot to a few inches as it kept trying to get to the top floor. Fearing for my life I jumped out leaving half of my stuff behind. After trying to go downstairs by the stairwell and it being locked by CHAINS I had to call the elevator, and pray. As it shook the floor I was standing on I did take video incase I died so there was evidence for my grieving family. When reaching the top it didn't have the horrifying gap as the first time just a 2 inch one that settled by the time the door fully opened. Thinking it was all the extra weight of my belongings I left what I was carrying and rode down with what I had left behind. Then after selecting the 1st floor it dropped before the door fully closed allowing me to see the back side of the 5th & 4th floors doors. I informed the front desk staff where they put me in a 1st floor room. They then assured me that it was normal just needing to warm up before it would work properly and it was perfectly safe to ride back up and retrieve my laptop bag and cpap bag. I

Family stayed there for 2 nights and my kids were disappionted that the pool was closed both days. We tried using our Amercian Exoress card to check in, but was told it was declined. The family checking in behind us also tried using that card and was told it was declined. Yet they called and the card was fine as we also knew iur card was fine as we just used it the same day elsehwere. The room was clean, but we had a hard time falling asleep due to a bright light staying lit all night on our patio. There was no light switch to turn it off . We were going to call the front desk but there was no phone in our room. We had a too much light coming in around the curtains.

Worst stay EVER! Clerk tried to steal the deposit after checking the room. Never came back to the desk. Hallways stink no pool no breakfast no Wi-Fi as advertised. Just an all around horrible experience

I can’t complain much for the price paid. It was cheap enough and the room was clean. However, it is a very old hotel. The indoor pool is currently not operational. There was no cart be available to transport luggage from your vehicle to your room. we asked for a rollaway bed and was told it was not available. The television does not have local channels. Just Roku. I had to go downstairs to go get a remote for the television. There is no phone, coffee, maker, or microwave in the room. There is no continental breakfast or coffee in the lobby. It served its purpose. I just needed a place to stay after the game.

The room itself was very nice and clean. The pool has been closed from the health department. Which was a huge bummer because it rained and we were unable to do our scheduled plans which is why I chose this hotel as a back up plan.

Take in mind POOL & BREAKFAST isn’t available. Clean bed and rooms. Can’t complain for the price. Just disappointed about the pool. It looks like it used to be a beautiful hotel.

There was no Pool or Hot tub as you advertised. There was no Breakfast service I could not take a shower because rust came out Room wall hangings were laying on the floor. The windows were extremely dirty. They are trying to remodel this dump I checked out and cancelled my sceond night and moved to Country Inn As you will see in my resevation

The rooms weren’t labeled, my two rooms reserved under the same reservation were at opposite ends of the hotel, and the pool (advertised) had been out of operation for “two to three years”. My rooms toilet didn’t flush, my wife’s shower didn’t work, but they’d overbooked somehow and so a room change was out of the cards. There’s a broken elevator, restaurant is closed, and my daughter’s bed had bugs. People got arrested outside. People yelling inside. Moldy bathrooms covered with paint. Avoid at all costs.

Their property was in bad condition the room looked as if it had not been cleaned it is completely out dated and the area it’s located seems to be run down and in poverty. I would not recommend staying there.

Worst place I’ve ever stepped foot in. Blood stain on the sheets and I left in 2 mins of being in there. Still waiting on a refund. Avoid this place at all cost

Cockroaches everywhere. Bathroom was obviously not cleaned

Don’t Book. Bathroom is lined with black mold the plumbing leaked everywhere the carpet and furniture was cut/torn up the was cigarette burns everywhere the bed was covered in bed bugs. We were never given towels. No trash can trash bags nor ice available. The pool that was advertised has been shut down for over 4 years now and counting. They still refuse to give a refund even though we did not stay due to the conditions. Giant Scamm

Lots of Roaches and it smelled strong like dog piss on the balcony

The beds were clean and comfortable, but the bathroom was horrible. The toilet wouldn't flush properly, the tub was stained and rusty, scarry looking. The hallways snelled humid. We didn't use the pool, but we looked, and there was a horrible looking green caroet around the pool. Would not stay here again.

Someone was honking outside the hotel for over an hour at 3AM and woke up my kids from being so loud!

Bed was uncomfortable I saw a bug on the wall in the bathroom drain in sink was very slow draining your pool was out service no continental breakfast was served no microwave in room I wouldn’t stay at this hotel ever again and I’m not recommending friends or family to stay there either

You have to be kidding me with this hotel. It is dirty. Unsafe. No ice buckets in the room. Half of the hotel is in renovation. Not even cups

It looked nothing like the pictures some of it was remodeled parts were a complete wreck . Its kind of a drifters motel very creep but I had no problems just a place to crash .

This place was not only dirty, but people were loitering all around the property. Looked like people were living out of their cars. I went up to my room and immediately came back to the desk. Told him i want a refund and check out. He said he could not help me. Feeling unsafe at this place I just left.

This property was convenient, close to freeway. It was easy to get to the places i was going to. The staff was pleasant.

I tried to cancel my reservation and they didn’t do anything about it the place was gross and disgusting when you pulled up it looked like a crackhead house. I would never go there ever again.

I pulled up to that parking lot and knew i wasn't going to stay there. I had to put in a claim with my hotel protection to get my money back because Howard Johnson wouldn't honor the cancelation. It didn't look safe and i didn't feel safe.

The hotel was dump. Smelled like pee everywhere, elevator broken, they false advertise the stay accomodations...and the Manager on duty was rude and dishonest. Steer clear of this one. It isn't even in a good location.

The service was terrible, staff support was lacking, the 3rd floor was a storage place, and it was given to me for a room to stay. I came in at 2:00 AM, and despite the fact it was late at night, I had to return the room and got out to find a more suitable hotel to stay. I asked for the full refund the next day -- talked to Rago the manager -- and was told that the refund would be done immediately. Thank you, Josepj Nguyen
