Super 8 by Wyndham Kingston

This super 8 is well located. Otherwise I do not recommend staying here. It is dirty. The fire alarm went off both nights I was there (from someone smoking). There were other loud disturbances. It’s not a restful place.

Do Not Book Ths Property. This Hotel appears to be operating partly as a Shelter or temporary Housing facility for individuals placed there through a city-funded program. This was disclosed when we booked, Late at night, the occupants of the adjoing room held an extremely loud party. After our complaint the manager argued with us insted of promtly resolving the situation. we were eventually moved to another room. After this terrible night, the fire alarm went off approximately 6:00 a.m. We had to leave our room and two fire trucks arrived at the property. The advertised breakfast was also unacceptable. Between the filthy conditions, overwelming odor, nighttime disturbance, fire alarm, breakfast, this was one of the worst hotel experiences we have ever had.

The front desk clerk was great and helped when we could not get the tv to work. But, the property is older and it showed. There was a hole in the floor in the bathroom and the room had a weird chemical smell to it. The carpet in the room felt old and dirty. Would not stay again.

For us, $230/night is a pricey hotel, cheap for Kingston NY. Staff were mostly polite, efficient. Plentiful parking. Room was okay, working quiet ac, clean comfy beds. (At least in second room we tried; we had to swap out first room for a couple issues including mini fridge was a crime scene inside). But for this money, I do expect a toilet without a tank leak that causes floor puddles. I do expect the tv remote to work, especially after visiting front desk about it twice, and having workers visit us twice to swap remotes, and NONE of them work. I do expect to feel safe in the parking lot and enter the lobby without wading through unsavory groups loitering and smoking and being loud and intimidating and suss all around the only entrance. I was glad we were only staying one night. For this money, I DO NOT expect to find evidence of mice, or mouse traps behind the mini fridge! Or to be warned by another guest, "Beware of the mice" as we walk the hallway to visit downtown. I discreetly wedged a towel beneath the gap under the door, in hopes of warding off any rodent visitors. This is just horrible for a hotel guest, to not sleep much at all because of worrying about mice crawling around us in the night. Good God! This was a 2-star $70 room At Best. I cannot believe I lost $230 to stay on guard against mice all night. I wish I could have afforded elsewhere but I couldnt. The cost for the value was awful and will always sting when I think of it. Do hotels care at all anymore?

Staff is very friendly, it looks like a lot of people actually live here, we checked in late, the desk is manned 24 hours, which is convenient. The room is nothing special, furniture is run down, rug is gross, but bed and pillows are comfy, sheets and towels clean. TV stuck on one channel...Room is spacious though, and even with all the dogs and seeming live-ins hanging about, it was very quiet, so we could get a good rest. Breakfast is oatmeal, packaged pastries, granola bars, OJ and coffee. Convenient location at the right price for a one-night stay. On the way out I saw rooms that had vinyl flooring, and the photo online shows newer furniture. I guess we got an unrenovated room...
