Pleasant stay. Issues at check in due to Hotels.com passing incorrect details to the hotel, so took longer to check in. Room was pleasant and clean. Bed was comfortable shower was ok but seals seemed to have gone round hose and nozzle so caused a very high pitched noise. Breakfast was lovely and the restaurant staff were really nice. Carpark is a bonus. Really close to shopping and tourist sites. Will definitely choose this hotel again.

An ok hotel in heart of Pompey dock and and next to gunwharf Parking is complicated to say the least but at least included ! Breakfast good and included Generally a little tired and needs some loving plus more staff available to do check in Good strong 3 stars out of 5 Convenient but knackered

3 friends in a triple room for 2 nights. Perfect location for weekend in Portsmouth. Over the road from Gunwharf Quay shops and restaurants plus Historic dockyard. Flat walk, about 40 mins, to pier and beach. Excellent friendly and helpful staff. Comfy bed with nice bedding and modern shower room with nice towels. Delicious fry up in the morning. Plus great addition of free parking (although not for large cars or nervous drivers!).

My second stay here, friendly and welcoming staff, spotlessly clean nice rooms and so convenient. The Royal Dockyard, Gunwharfe Quays, Station and Isle of Wight ferry terminal virtually across the road. A short walk to Old Portsmouth and added convenience of private parking make it an ideal base for visiting Portsmouth.

Interesting old hotel steeped in naval history with HMS Victory nearby. It was a meeting point for MI 6 and the KGB. The decor is beautiful and the staff friendly. Serves British and sushi food. Useful free car park.

A very good stay. Efficient and friendly check in plus a room upgrade. Room and bathroom very clean, very comfortable bed. On site parking was a bonus as it was first come, first serve. Great location for historic dockyards and Gun Wharf key. All the staff I saw were friendly and very helpful.

What a beautifully restored and convenient hotel to stay at, we crossed the street from the train station and they had a lift. We had a delicious dinner at the captain’s table. Great selection of wines.

The hotel was in a great location - it was basically across the street from the Royal Navy museum and ships, the bus and train station, and Gunwharf Quays. We had a nice breakfast in the morning and the bar had a cozy seating area. The negatives were a terrible mattress on the bed in room 19, which was up or down stairs from a floor that the lift went to, so not great when you are dragging large suitcases. Third negative was that internet only connected on the ground floor, not in the room. I still rated this hotel as good, because I hope we just had a bad room location for internet and one bad mattress that can be replaced.

We stayed for three nights while visiting the Isle of Wight and the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. The hotel is ideally located for both of these, and only five minutes from the railway station. The room was quite spacious and clean. The front desk service was reasonably friendly and the included breakfast was very nice. Service in the bar was a little slow sometimes, as staff were off on other duties. We ate in the restaurant on one occasion and the food was delicious. There are Japanese options on the menu as well as the usual English fare, which gives more variety. Overall the hotel suited our neede perfectly.

Great welcome and friendly staff. Lovely family room with stunning sea view. Characterful, slightly old fashioned with faded furniture that added to charm. Excellent food. Convenient parking. Location, location, location.

Enjoyed our stay again but we were given our room key at check in (after 3pm) only to arrive at the room to find it had not been cleaned after the previous occupants. This was rectified but still disappointing

The property is a perfect location for visiting the Historic Dockyard, which has much to see and partake of. The street, otherwise, is not the most desirable location, though has plenty public transport and the convenience of a local Co- Op store and a cash-point machine. Although the public areas of the hotel were clean, and the staff kindly and helpful, there was a lack of daily cleaning in the bedroom. Beds were made but nothing else. No sign that the bathrooms had even been entered by the cleaner. Areas in the rooms also looked as if they'd just been neglected for a very long time when it came to cleaning. Having said that, it was the best place on a run down street, and for the convenience of location for visiting the historic dockyard, I would stay again. My advice to them would be to look more closely at their cleaning regime.

This is a classic pub hotel. The location is quite near the pier and the train station and is just 5 minutes walk to the dockyard museum. The hotel room is spacious and equipped with an air conditioner. But the electric kettle is dirty having some residue at the bottom and I dare not to use it. For the breakfast, you could order only once for the main course while for the cereal, pastry, toast and coffee you could get as much as you like. I did not go to the pub as flies were the main residence of the pub.

A lovely old hotel with quirky charm. Rooms were spacious although cleaning during my stay wasnt perfect. The elevator was out of service for 24 hrs which may have been problematic for less able guests. Staff was great and breakfast adequate (I found the coffee weak, but Im fussy) Overall great value for the $.

Overall friendly and helpful staff. Great location. Wonderful breakfast and dinner option (sushi menu). Only complaint was the stained carpets in the rooms.

Quirky hotel just a couple of minutes from the train station. Nice staff. Linens were fine, but the carpet in the room was very badly stained.

Traditional hotel with period features, attractive dining room. We stayed in Victory suite,which was a little in need of refurb/revamp but otherwise spacious. It had a very large bed but the mattress sloped towards both edges,making for an uncomfortable night's sleep. Staff were mostly friendly & helpful. Food in restaurant variable,one really good seabass dish one fish (ok) but with burnt chips. Windows & mirrors in need of some cleaning,especially uvpc frames in our bedroom. No hairdrier..we also reported shower head & screen problems ( water flooding) & need for lighting over bathroom sink. All in all disappointed for price we paid for 'best' room.

Perfect location, but goes down hill from there, car park is way too small, had to do a 20 point turn to get into the last space. Large room but very plain white decor with a few random tiny pictures lost in the sea of white. Biggest issue was the cleanliness, lots of dust and some very unsavoury stains on the mattress protectors. Bath seal had lots of mould round it as well. the wife didn't sleep particularly well more so thinking about the hygiene rather than the comfort of the bed itself. You don't get a hairdryer either, you have to ask for the communal hair dryer from reception which is a new one on me. Plus point was the AC worked fine (watch out for the drips when you come out of the hotel and walk under it though). Breakfast was just about edible but not great, the filter coffee was an unpleasant throwback and left an unwelcome aftertaste, had to take the wife straight to cafe Nero to get a proper drink! A crying shame as it wouldn't take a lot to make this a really nice place to stay.

Well placed ancient hotel close to the main activities in Portsmouth. Although, the cleaning serve was very disappointing: we have found a spit in the internal side of the main window, the bathromm was not well clean and there were a bush of someone’s hair and a sponge on the bathroom floor. Moreover the cleaning service did not clean the room even after has been requested: they have only refilled the bottle of water and changed the tea cups. They haven’t touched the beds or done anything else.

Great location, friendly staff, but a few niggling issues with our room - nowhere to hang wet coats, bathroom floor not cleaned properly.

Location good. Staff friendly and helpful. Unfortunately bed was uncomfortable for me but my partner had no problems with it

Our twin bedded room was overall average. Wire coming in through the door was hanging off the wall. The carpet had many dirty marks on it. No soap provided in the bathroom wash basin. It overlooked the bus and train stations and neither of us slept a wink on our one night stay because of the noise outside all night long. Room 11. Food was average but all the staff were very pleasant.

Given a room above kitchen. Fridge motor on and off all night. Kitchen fans under my room on noisily at 6.30 p m. Asked on check in if my room above kitchen, was told only 'it was at the back of the building'. I do not expect luxury suite as single traveller, but room has been a disappointing exsperience. Will not stay here again.

Everything was really nice. The air conditioner was a little noisy.

I booked a deluxe double room with view but got an average twin room with no view which is a shame because we’ve stayed before and had a lovely room. Great location for shops bars and casino

Excellent location - walked out the train station and within 2 mins walk you’re at the front door, 5 mins dockyard! BUT - it’s an older building, even though it had an elevator you still need to walk down / up 2 flights, which made it hard for my luggage. My single room was like a pantry, clean enough for overnight but the bed was too soft ( I weigh 115 lbs) and make it hard to sleep. The ventilation system was noisy all night, At 6 am I can smell the bacons fried up from downstairs ( kitchen). The restaurant was pretty good with a full Japanese menu. The hotel served my overnight purpose but not an ideal choice for vacation.

Keppel's Head is a fantastically positioned B&B with direct access to public transit, the harbor & shops, and the Royal Naval Yard museums. Breakfast was included with our stay and was generous & serviceable, and the staff was very helpful on several occasions, even at 0300 when we needed to be let out of the car park to get to our flight.

Lovely service at all times. Gave us suggestions of things to do. We had to leave early so they offered a breakfast to go. It was great. Dinner at the hotel was our best meal of the trip. Exceptional!

We were in Portsmouth to visit the Museum of the Royal Navy. We arrived early and the hotel stored our bags before check-in and also allowed us to store our bags at checkout, no cost. Breakfast was excellent. All staff were helpful and pleasant.

The hotel is a little run down. The security locks have been retro fitted and a set int a metal L shaped plate with very sharp corners. Whilst trying to shut the door quietly he caught his arm on the sharp corner and gashed it in 2 places. The girl at reception cleaned and bandaged it and said she would speak to maintenance about it. Nothing was ever done to file down the sharp corners.

Nice, older hotel with really large and clean bathroom. No complaints about the room itself. Hotel staff was friendly, but were inflexible with the check in time of 3:00 pm. We traveled all day to get there and arrived at 2:15. We were told to come back 45 minutes later, even though our room was ready.

Perfect location for visiting Portsmouth and the Historic Dockyard, walk out of the train station and the hotel is just across the street. Ideal for a quick sighting trip to the okd town and the docks. Rooms were simple and clean.

Great place with easy access to the Historic Dockyard and the shops/restaurants on the waterfront. Also next to the Hard Terminal for a quick bus ride to the city centre for shopping.

Beautiful hotel second time there and we loved it again. Friendly staff, good food, lovely bar and restaurant perfect location for the dockyard.

Can be a little bit noisy by the railway and bus station but a very good location.

The location was perfect for our visit to the Historic dockyard. Almost opposite the entrance! We were in the room looking out over the water. It was large and clean and comfortable. Breakfast is freshly cooked for you. They had gluten free options for me

The location is excellent ldeal if you wish to use the buses trains and ferrys.

Lovely venue rooms could do with a bit of a revsmp. Breakfast unfortunately lukewarm.

The breakfast was not good.

Hotel is in appalling condition. It is king over due a refurbish. On the corridors leading to the rooms there are unlocked electrical cupboards with bare wires and electric meters, this should be a locked cupboard and wires need to be made safe. The mattresses were in appalling condition. We were unable to sleep in the first night due to severe discomfort. After reporting this to reception the mattresses were eventually changed, supposedly to brand new mattresses. They were not new and had just been pulled from a different room. Due to the severity of discomfort we barely slept. The quality of breakfast was almost as bad as the beds! The cooked breakfast was swimming in grease and a small portion with no option to add any additional items. The continental breakfast was only available if you were at breakfast as soon as it opened, they did more refresh the pastries or yoghurts throughout breakfast service. The advertised fresh fruit was week old half rotten apple or mushy banana, neither were suitable for consumption. The coffee and tea facilities were passable. The room was old and in desperate need of a refurbished. The only waving grave was the bathroom which had recently been refurbished and was still of decent quality. The staff throughout the visit were polite and friendly but very slow to respond to and action negative feedback. I will not be staying at this hotel again which is a great shame as it is in and ideal location to visit all the historical naval history sites

Friendly relaxed staff. The hotel is in a great location for visiting the navy museum and docks. On site parking is a plus too. The Japanese restaurant is great as is the full english breakfast.

This property has many mixed reviews but do not be afraid to stay here. It is in a very convenient location if you are traveling by train, our room was comfortable with good climate control, clean towels and bedding and a clean (if cozy) bathroom. The breakfast was fine and we enjoyed the bar and dinner in the evening. There was a very adequate English menu as well as wonderful Japanese cuisine. We were very impressed with the friendliness of the staff, the good service and the price. It is a very old building, but if you like history you will have a fine stay.

So glad I booked this hotel. Staff very friendly and efficient. Room was lovely and we had a sea view. The bed was very comfortable and the room/bathroom were warm even though the radiators weren't turned on. The hotel wasn't noisy but there were roadworks right outside our room but that was only an issue during the day. Good location with train station across the road plus a shopping centre with an amazing cinema. Breakfast was good and we had a fabulous meal in the restaurant on our last night. We would definitely stay there again. The only small gripe is that there were 3 plug sockets next to the single bed but none by the double.
