Castaways Resort & Spa Mission Beach

The property is amazing. Direct access and view to the ocean and walking distance to town. The rooms however are very tired and need a complete overhaul. Reception staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The poor restaurant staff are extremely understaffed and at times run off their feet. Unfortunately whilst we were there they were undergoing renovations to the restaurant and bar area which wasn’t pleasant when trying to have a nice relaxing breakfast. We opted to eat out after this experience. Pool areas are lovely and so is the outdoor seating areas.

Best location but poor staffing. Pool could not be used because it's under maintenance but there was no warnings or notices on the website or in the chat feature prior to booking. Receptionist was barely apologetic and offered that we should have received a text AFTER we booked. Despite this not happening and not receiving any notice, we were given a slight shrug of the shoulders, a promise to tell the manager and the option to swim in the pool 200 metres across the road. Pool is essential in February in Nth Qld. Just one barman meant that drink service around the pool was slow and you needed to keep getting up to order. Cocktails were good and he was trying his hardest. Two bedroom apartment didn't have an air-conditioner in the second room. It was hot and you couldn't close the door for privacy. Toilet and shower facilities were in the main bedroom with no door or screening. Sofa bed had a sign in it NOT TO BE USED even though it was advertised as a bed online. Overall your paying for the location and nothing more. There is very little that is resort standard.

The hotel is quite outdated and does not look like in the photos.The room was reasonably clean, but the shower was dirty and the shower head was small. cheap and old.Does not stand up to a resort level. The pool was quite dirty with leaves and hair floating on the surface. The sandbags were also stained, old and the pool tables were dirty. The waiter came to our table three times but not even once they cleaned/wiped it down. The restaurant and bar were closed for three consecutive days, text message sent to the me in the morning when I was planning to have breakfast and coffee. $300 per night was not worth it.

The location was faultless & stepping from veranda into pool was fantastic. However, it doesn’t look like the floors in the unit ever see a mop & generally was very run down. The food was terrific in the restaurant but the service left a lot to be desired. The staff seemed to put more emphasis on putting menu & cutlery out than serving the waiting guests. 3 times in a matter of hours 2 seperate bar staff looked right at me waiting, not only did they continue but then walked right past me multiple times without acknowledgement. All you have to do is let people know you see them & will be with them asap

Nice overnight stay. Room was very clean and comfortable . The restaurant, bar & pool area were excellent. Location to the beach and local town was within an easy walk.

Unfortunately our stay coincided with the closure of the restaurant and bar. We only received notice if this the day prior to our stay. The location of the property is amazing but the building itself is showing signs of age. Definitely time for a renovation. The staff were all amazing. Unfortunately due to the restaurant and bar being closed we cut short our stay.

Luxury beachfront hotel where you can walk for miles along the magnificent Mission Beach shoreline. Ideally located near the stinger net for swimming at the beach during the stinger season and within walkable distance to nearby alternative dining options. Gorgeous, refurbished pool to cool off in and plenty of comfy seating areas to gaze out to the views of Dunk Island. Most importantly the staff are attentive and super friendly!

Beautiful pool and great dining options. Excellent location right on the beach. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Beds were very comfortable. Also was very quiet in the room. Stunning views from room of the beach. I believe all rooms have a similar view. Rooms are getting dated need a refresh. Ants in shower and leaky shower. Walls could use a repaint.

Room was fairly dirty, dust and dirt on cupboards, painting unfinished around the room and out on the balcony. Also no room service or cutlery in the room. Toilet was also very wobbly. Great location close to the beach

Upon check in staff were rude. Rooms were dirty due to age and are very outdated, grout in bathroom and bathroom tiles are disgusting. Pool was dirty and full of leaves and bottom of pool was slimy. I asked if they could clean pool but never got done.

Amazing location. Bed comfy, room clean.

The receptionist was very nice and the property was straight on the beach. The windows of the hotel room were dirty and green algae growing from the outside of the window. The water system in the bathroom was noisy.

An elegant hotel in a really beautiful location. Everything was spotless and comfortable and the beanbags in the pool were an excellent addition to a very comfortable stay.

The bar and restaurant was lovely, staff were friendly. The room didn’t feel clean. The floors were sticky, the vent in the bathroom was fully blocked so the bathroom was always damp.

This property has the WOW factor. Beautifully appointed rooms, comfortable beds and an amazing view. The restaurant, bar and pools are great, the food was really nice and we enjoyed 'happy hour'. A Short walk to main street as well. I can recommend staying here.

Room was noisy could hear sliding doors and toilet flushing For a resort I expected table service but had to order food and drinks from the bar Waiting time for drinks was too long Understaffed the staff that worked did an amazing job so dam busy not a good look been that busy Bed in room was too bloody small expected bigger Had to climb in a bath to use the shower Shower gel was empty had to call reception Complementary washing powder container empty Will most likely not stay there again Very disappointed traveler

Loved our stay here recently. Staff were very helpful when our booking couldn't be found at first, they upgraded us as our room wouldn't fit our porta cots in. Definitely staying here again and will recommend.

In writing i was advised reception open to 7 pm, i strived to arrive bt 7 pm , however reception actually closed at 6:30 pm, we found our key as detailed to us but assistance from catering staff was very vauge and we had great difficulty in locating or room which was isolated from main building of resort, a better detailed map shoould have been provided

The staff was excellent- friendly and helpful. The room was very clean. These were the positives - on the flip-side: take careful note of the cancellation policy!!! I tried to negotiate a postponement because of cyclone Jasper 6 days prior but the hotel wouldn't budge. Not the hotel's fault that we decided to proceed but once there it was a disappointing experience. The hotel is very run-down and to give them credit, they are in the midst of renovations but we were put in a room with the scaffolding right at the window. The roads were cut off meaning no-one could get in or out and they couldn't find us a better room??? The booking process was painful - provide details already provided again, receive a code, email confirmation to the receptionist right there and then it took 3 goes with the credit card :-( The restaurant was very handy and the food was tasty but we ordered cocktails, entrees, main meals and a bottle of wine and received it in a disjointed order: entrees with main meal 2 minutes later (no parmesan and truffle chips as per the menu - just plain chips), wine and lastly the cocktails. Unfortunately, because of the cyclone we had to stay an extra 2 nights but couldn't stay in the same room because it was allocated to other travellers. Again, the roads were flooded and no-one could get in or out. How were these travellers going to get to the hotel??? By boat maybe or by helicopter maybe.

Long overdue upgrades improved the place. Restaurant still a little iffy but the location is just superb. For the most part staff were lovely and helpful.

This Hotel is right on the beach looking across to Dunk Island.

I like being near the beach and easy access to shops and restaurants. Love the $20 breakfast options.

Can’t beat the location if you go to the beachside Castaways.

Best Breakfast I had in my 3 weeks stay in Australia, delicious and fresh! Best Avocado Toast and Pancakes. I’m craving them now! The room was okay, can do a bit of renewal specially on the furniture as it was stained and looking very old, and well as part of the tropics my husband found a cockroach on the bathroom that he didn’t inform me about till we left as I have a severe phobia with them. Service was good, and we enjoyed our stay.

While much was good, the dining menu had a dearth of gluten free options. Even when my wife ordered one of the very few GF meals, it was clear they did not know much about gluten free as they provided normal bread in the meal. So the place is quite OK if you are not a coeliac.

Nice location and friendly staff (all but one). Restaurant seating was great alongside the two pool and facing the beach. The quality of the food was average with escalated pricing.
