Fantastic cosy feel as soon as you walk in. Very welcoming friendly and helpful staff. Rooms very quaint but clean and comfortable. Dogs were made very welcome. Even had water bowls and biscuits for them

Very friendly staff, good food at reasonable price. We stayed in the cottage, which has the benefit of a full size hot tub

Good value ….. and rooms are excellent ….. outside needs a bit of TLC and maybe some menu improvements but overall a good spot to explore the area or for business

Great value hotel, lovely breakfast, staff are excellent and always go the extra mile to help. Pub has beautiful beer garden on the riverside, reached down a long flight of steps. Will be stopping here again.

Easy to find pub/hotel with plenty parking availability. Very quick and capable booking in by staff.. Problem identified with room choice but manager intervened and agreement quickly made to booking (the error is the only reason I opted for 4 instead of 5 stars). All staff very welcoming and caring and although not the original choice of room we found it extremely clean and adequate for our needs. Beer selection very good, very attentive staff and excellent parmo and fish/chips with similar standard for the full English the following morning. We will return!

The room we stayed in was dated and hadn’t been cleaned. The headboard had weeks of thick dust on it, cobwebs in all the lamps. The bathroom had grout missing out of all the tiles, the sink was cracked. There was a build up of gunk on the soap dispenser. Definitely need to sack the cleaner!!!!

Great hotel. Very comfortable and well equipped room, welcoming staff and spotlessly clean bathroom with a good shower. Nice touches with sweets in room and very dog friendly which is important for us. Good food too, the DBB deal is excellent value. We hope to come again.

The check-in was quick and smooth with a friendly Junior member of staff, the bedroom was large and comfortable. The ensuite bathroom had a large bath and shower. The shower had black mould growing on the inside. and the toiletries were not replenished in the seven days that we were there. The towels were replaced once The breakfast to be honest was depressing, as there wereonly a handful of guests there was very little attention given to the breakfast, no fresh fruit or pastries no buffet options staff only asked if you wanted a cooked breakfast, when it arrived, The bacon was dehydrated and brown. The sausage was wrinkled and dried out. The mushrooms had dried out so much. They were tiny and shrivelled and the black pudding could not be cut but I did manage to break it in half! The only thing that was edible on the plate was the egg so the thought of having pre paid for breakfast and having this presented each morning was depressing, when I complained several mornings the staff member did nothing and were obviously unhappy at the complaint, no apologies or options were given. There was repeatedlyno hot water for the tea and it had to be asked for. Miraculously on the last two mornings when they were wedding guests staying at the hotel a buffet breakfast was provided and all the food was cooked to a very good standard, it left us feeling that the low occupancy meant low standards i.e. The guests can take it or leave it they have already paid.

Stayed for 2 nights as in the area for work. The room was clean, comfortable and I slept well. There was a couple of items in the room that made it look a little tired. Food in the bar was amazing, nice place to do work in the evening and have a beer. The staff were lovely and helpful could not of asked for anything more. Also very well priced. If I'm back in the area would definitely stop again. Thanks

The George hotel has seen far better days. The photos on the website don't portray HOW the hotel is today. The room was filthy (Under the bed there were numerous items including tablets and rubbish by far the worst item found was a pair of dirty pants) The manager did move us to an alternative room. In summing up I feel the whole hotel requires investment and a deep clean. 114 characters

Carpets and curtains not clean, decor very tired, no soap or shampoo until asked and rummaged for. Menu in room but told on arrival at 6.15 that kitchen was closed and couldn't even make a sandwich. Felt sorry for receptionist but won't be staying again.

Room was good, spacious, decent shower. Huge bed. It was a bit nousy from other rooms, particularly above us but to be expected from an old building. Service at bar was ok.

A stay of two halves. The double room in the main building was tiny, the other room we booked for our son in an annex was fantastic. No toilet roll or remote control for the tv in our room (but swiftly rectified by lovely staff) and really cold (fine when radiator turned up to 11) other room toasty and fully equipped. Bar full so sat in slightly odd and draughty restaurant but staff improvised to ensure we could eat and the food was excellent.

Ill go through the best bits first , check in was easy, I was given all the details I needed . The room had a nice river view, the bed was ok for wife but a bit hard for me ( but thats just a personal choice) . Tv was painfully slow to use ( how do you get a slow tv!) . So now to the reason it didnt get top marks .. As we walked to the room over a courtyard there were 2 discarded muffins sat on the windowsill next to the door , they were there the next day altho cleaning staff were stood almost next to them .. also just near the courtyard numerous tables had leftovers which weren't being picked up ( it wasnt busy) including unbelievably a used nappy on the table. ( there are some horrible people). Ok i may be nitpicking but it didnt give a good vibe .. Now the title ... it seemed that every door handle was either loose or repaired with 2" screws . The annexe main door had all 4 screws loose , the fire door on the first floor had a screw with the head damaged sticking out dangerously and the room door felt like the mechanism was about to come away every time you shut it from the outside. And the toilet in the room wasnt the most stable and again the 2" screws were evident . So overall staff in the pub were great, any food we had was great , the actual rooms were clean enough but the communal areas in the annexe although painted just gave a tired and unloved impression.

Relaxing comfortable stay - big spacious room, with balcony - very comfortable bed, friendly staff, added bonus of breakfast included.

Radiators on throughout the entire stay with no option to turn off, which means the window had to be open at all times in order to prevent heat stroke, opening myself up to outside noise when trying to sleep. Otherwise decent stay.

My room was very clean as was the bedding. The bed was large and comfortable and the room was well heated. The shower was very powerful and a good temperature.the blackout curtains worked very well and the hotel/pub was easy to find. However the maintenance of the room was poor with chipped paint, cracked walls, bodged carpet, a door with such a large gap at the bottom that I had to use a towel to block out the light plus the lights on the bed didn't work. This was an 'executive room' which had a garden view (of a big bush and the river if you peered around it) The breakfast was just OK, but a bit lacking in something, for example there wasn't any brown or red sauce on the table and the breakfast room smelled of cabbage on both days. What could have been better? Attention to detail in maintenance, a cozy armchair or sofa in an 'executive' room a breakfast with more than one of each item in it and better bread than mother's pride. This is not one of those hotels that I was desperate to get away from, but nor is it one I would go out of my way to come back to.

Definitely won’t be back. The only good thing was the room was clean and spacious. However we were moved from an upstairs room to a downstairs room because there was no remote for the tv. We then had a pretty much sleepless night because whoever was in the room above was walking around frequently and the creaking floorboards woke us up. As well as that there was no heating in the room and no hot water for the whole stay, not good for an elderly couple on a cold February night. We stayed as a break on a long journey from Scotland to London but didn’t feel either rested or refreshed to resume the journey. Will be making an official complaint.

Booked this hotel with Expedia but had to cancel due to my husband breaking his arm and couldn’t drive. Expedia assured us we would get a refund but emailed to say sorry they couldn’t get hold of the management at the hotel. We are now out of pocket. Wouldn’t book with Expedia ever again. Not heard back from the hotel either.

Arrived and to be told room was cancelled weeks ago and could not care about us and did not bother trying to help. A very poor service from the staff and would not recommend this hotel and next time in the will stay clear of it.

The staff were the highlight - friendly and engaging. We enjoyed the atmospheric presence of the old building. If in the area, we would certainly stay there again.

What a great hotel, great service the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Clean throughout the hotel, the bits we could see, and the room. Room was comfortable, clean with tea/coffee facility and a nice view. We had an evening meal as well as breakfast both had a good selection and very nice. If we ever need a place to stay in the area again we wuld definitely rebook

Very noisy directly underneath my room until almost 2am. When asked if I could have a quieter room the next day I was told that there was nothing going on and that loud conversation had been heard from my room! Considering I am a solo traveller and had been trying to work all evening with noise cancelling headphones on (and no speaking) this was very odd. Hotel is really nice and rooms are clean and comfortable. I have previously enjoyed a meal and the delightful ambience in the bar. Was considering staying here very regulary (I currently spend 4/5 nights a week at Scotch Corner and fancied a break) however the noise was dreadful. There was a party on Saturday night and several of the guests decided to have a screaming match right outside my bedroom door. Nothing the hotel could do about that BUT the noise from the bar was something they could have apologised for and moved me if possible. After two nights of very little work and very little sleep I left and will not be back. It's a shame but the staff really let this place down.

We arrived early and staff were happy to let us check in. Lovely lady on reception, very friendly. Room was very spacious, comfy big bed and lovely bathroom. Would definately stay again ☺️

The service was the worst i have ever experienced at a hotel. Breakfast took over an hour to be served, the quality was terrible and there was a lack of options for pastries and others. The hosts kept promising breakfast would soon be served and offered no apology and didn't seem to care. The couple sitting near us had their breakfast served but had to wait another 20 minutes for their condiments to be served. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and i noticed that my details were on a piece of paper on the bar as servers were down, my personal information was for all to see. Very unprofessional and would definitely not recommend.

Stayed for a training course so long intensive days. The great thing about the George is the friendly atmosphere created by the team here. Found it to be a friendly relaxing environment, especially as a lone female. Nothing was too much trouble. Great bar too. Menu choices for evening meal lovely - something for everyone not just pub grub. Breakfast was substantial with some days breakfast cooked to order otherwise a buffet.

A one-time coaching inn now quietly situated a short distance from the A1M motorway. It is a charming property, clean and well appointed, friendly staff and having an excellent menu. Highly recommended.

Last minute booking due to traffic chaos. What a gem. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The setting and village are a delight. The breakfast was magnificent and total value for money. Would stay there again.

Stayed two nights for a local wedding near the property. It has recently re opened after some refurbishment I think. Great location. Room was good but my shower was a small one ( other rooms were different) Tea, Coffee, Water and biscuits supplied in room. Along with a fan ( hot & cold) and a iron.

Stunning location, very clean and tidy , lovely food and great walks nearby. Beautiful beer garden by the river. Dropped a star rating due to a few housekeeping issues- no duvet covers on the duvets, only one remote control between 2 tvs, front door handle lose,no facilities to dispose of recycling and dog waste and dead batteries in the candles in the living room.Fresh milk would have been nice in the fridge rather than pots of uht. Overall though, a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Check in was done on line was abaout the best experience of this place. We stayed in the Annex across the court yard the smell was unreal was of old damp musty the room was spacious but the smell was in the room too not as strong as the landing and stairs shower was nice but the tray filled up quick and the water ebbed onto the floor probably why the place smell damp and foisty the food was of good taste but the waitress messed the order up and what we got wasn't what we ordered the IPA was nice and the wine it was valentines night the candles on the table were dead and we had to ask for a fresh one and for it to be lit all the table candles seemed to be the same breakfast was terrible cold and bland the toaster didn't work there was no coffee not a full English breakfast all at once was very mishmashed waiting for the chef to bring out sausage and bacon couple of choices of teas but no earl grey there was minimal selection of continental offering with no pastries I would stay again but I'd maybe order from a different menu and skip the breakfast when you go in a restaurant and get handed a menu only to find 3 of the 4 items you want are not available is pretty poor this is the worst best western I've stayed at out of 5 I'd give it a generous 2 only because the IPA was nice

Fantastic food in this lovely old pub. Really enjoyed my stay and was really impressed with the food. Generous portions and absolutely delicious. The chips were outstanding! I will definitely be back when im next in the area.

2night stay hotel is in a lovely place but does not make the most of the view of Roman bridge Breakfast 1st day was terrible worse scramble egg I have ever seen lam a retired salesman.2nd day had to wait as all food was taken except the scrambled eggs. Overall quite good. Single glass windows so made the room noisey, lacking a mirror in the bedroom. Breakfast wasn’t the best but ok., don’t order poached or fried eggs, they came over cooked 🙈 Tea however was Amazing!!!
