Hyatt Place Charleston/Historic District

We were greeted immediatly and offered free waters. Breakfast was good. Parking is expensive. We went to the pool to see brown clumps on the steps. We were not sure if it was poop, but looked exactly like it. We immediately told the front desk to be told they would take care of it. 3 hours later, it had not been cleaned. We came back the next day and there were still reminents there. The bed was awful and the shower head was extremly low. It was suppose to rain the last day so we decided to go home a day early since we didnt feel comfortable there. 10 hour drive home a day early was not what we had planned. We will definitely be finding somewhere else to stay next time.

They charge a $75 pet cleaning fee to stay in a dirty room. They was human hair all over the carpet and table. One elevator was broken during check out. The view is of some dirt behind the hotel. And to be pet friendly there is nowhere to walk your dog that doesn't look like a scene from the apocalypse. And the hallways to your room is 100 degrees.

Parking was expensive as the hotel does not own the lot

Great hotel in decent location. Only issue is parking costs are outrageous and resets each night at midnight to maximize charging you.

Swimming pool and the gym were excellent. Large and in a very good shape. Location is convenient to walk to attractions and restaurants. There are also feee buses nearby.

Staff was just okay. Room was very average, not dirty but not the most clean. Parking is a cluster and expect to spend hundreds extra on it. I understand it is Charleston but other hotels have parking included. It was in a GREAT location though so that makes up for the very average experience.

Great location on King Street, but the hotel is currently under renovation and the rooms feel dated. While the breakfast selection was excellent, the dining area was too cramped for the number of guests. The pool is large, but unfortunately, the chlorine levels were so high they caused skin irritation for my children. Additionally, the parking is overpriced and misleading; they charge per calendar day rather than a 24-hour cycle. For example, staying from 4 PM to 11 AM cost us $48. Between the old rooms and the hidden costs, I would not recommend this hotel.

Staff was helpful. 1. Finding hotel was difficult- they need better signage. 2. showers had a handheld sprayer- time to upgrade bathrooms. 3. Rooms were a nice size but boring colors/rugs- need redecorating other than that it was quiet and bed was comfy- liked having the couch in there

We enjoyed the rooftop bar.

Would have been better if we had been told in advance that there was no on-site parking. The extra $50 per night for parking messed up my buget. Just because if the parking, we will not be staying here again.

Clean room

The hotel is a solid place to stay but it is in need of attention. We stayed in 2 rooms while we were there and here’s our experience. Room 1 was on a higher floor and supposedly nicer, quite the contrary. The room was quite small, the fridge had the last tenants food still in the fridge, air condition didn’t turn when temperatures, not clean, the floor looked like it was recently buffed but upon wiping something spilled there was black grease (?), every piece of furniture had scuffs and scratches and the walls had scuff marks that weren’t cleaned or painted. Room 2, 2nd floor was 2x larger, clean, floor wasn’t greasy, air conditioning didn’t work for hours then around 2am after sweating for a few hours it seems to have turned on. Property itself needs updating, overall cleaning, paint on a lot of scuff marks. Staff was great and accommodating, the place is in a good location but needs attention throughout.

I have stayed at many Hyatt properties and I must say I was not pleased with my stay at this location. I don’t feel the staff were very friendly. The room had hair everywhere including my ice bucket. The water pressure was horrible and made a spitting sound the entire time while showering or washing hands. The floors were very sticky in the room. I don’t feel like it was worth the money that I paid. I would not return to this location.

$48 to park for one night Our shower had an empty bottle of body wash hanging on the wall, pubic hair in the shower and our room was very damp; maybe because of no fan in the bathroom.

Everyone was super friendly, clean room

The sheets were not changed nor the bed even turned down the 2nd night. There was no towel replacement or room coffee replenished.

Rooms were not the cleaniest

We had a great time exploring Charleston, and when we got back to the hotel it was great. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean, the staff are friendly. We had one small problem with the A/C and it was fixed promptly while we were out. There is a small bar, and complementary breakfast. It's not the hotel to spend a great deal of time in, but as a base to explore Charleston it was great.

Great service, excellent location, comfortable rooms

The location is great and rooms were clean. However, the rooms at this location are out dated and not as nice as other Hyatt Place's I have stayed at. Apparently they are about to undergo a renovation so hopefully the rooms will be brought up to par with other Hyatt Place properties.

We loved the King suite with the separate bedroom and full kitchen. We would give 5 stars if the pull-out bed in the sofa were comfortable but it was not. Also, we did not like the barn door on the bathroom - it would not latch easily or stay closed. The hotel was clean, the king bed was comfortable, the showere pressure was great, there were plenty of shops and restaurants nearby.

The location of the property was great but the property itself is quite dated. The walls are so thin that i heard the specific conversation people in the hallway were having from my room.

We had a couple of minor issues in our room. The shower doors didn’t work properly. 1 sliding door wouldn’t move to close correctly. The TV had major screen issues. There was a matrix of dots in the middle of screen. We did try to watch a movie, but it was terrible. Room 509. We ‘lost the signal’ several times while watching Nickelodeon- not even streaming. We couldn’t get the temperature below 72, which is too warm for sleeping

My family and I had such a poor experience at the Hyatt hotel in Charleston. It started when we tried to check in. They had poor customer service on the phone. Initially, the lady had hung up on us. The second time we called back, they gave us attitude and told us to call back around 1300. The third time we called back, she was extremely short, stating that the reason we couldn’t see that we were already checked in was because we used Expedia. I asked about obtaining an itemized receipt, she advised me to simply take a screenshot of the charges that were sent to my phone. I was questioning why I was being overcharged, and there was confusion because there was a pre-charge early in May. A lot of the charge issues could’ve been handled had I gotten an itemized receipt copy, but she would not provide me with one. When I left, I realized I did not get room cards. She said that she did give them to me, but I must’ve lost them. I never found them throughout the trip, because she did not give them to me. At the end of the trip was another terrible experience with Geoffrey. We were trying to check out around 4 a.m. in order to make our travel home. And we did not get a check-out email. Upon approaching him, he was immediately disgruntled. We said that we were here to check out, and he told us that he was busy doing audits. I then had to ask him how long the audits would take. He responded, I don’t know, maybe about 20 minutes. This is unacceptable, especially with flights.

Room was fine. Staff was outstanding and friendly. Very helpful and accommodating.

Checked in, no valet and trolly was broken. Front desk help more interested in talking with themselves than completing check-in. Hotel has lost its appeal since I was last there - it was friendly and everyone chatted at breakfast. That has changed. Different vibe that wasn’t very pleasant.

Slow check in. Slow valet. Wrong room. Attitude at counter. Generally poor service.

The property is not luxurious but very clean, very convenient and reasonably priced. The staff was responsive and friendly.

Booked a king room and got put in a double queen room and no one did anything about it even though I complained multiple times. Talked to Expedia and the hotel, was told by both of them that the other was lying about why I couldn’t move to my correct room. Very unprofessional and inconsiderate

Our reservation was for 2 queens. Upon arrival we were put in a king bed room. When talking to the manager she argued with me that is not what I booked and paid for. After going back and forth with Expedia on the issue, the property manager would not give us the refund for the price difference as the Queen beds were more expensive than the king bed. The location was great, but property management was terrible!!

It is a little further north on King st than we wanted. Other wise it is a nice hotel.

Property needs some updating. Construction close by was noisy and started about 7am. Was on the edge of the historic district and somewhat walkable. Beware of public parking garage and their rates.

Great loacation virtually walkable to everything in charleston downtown. A/c worked great, super comfortable. Bfast was better than most included breakfast.

Fantastic hotel. But Located in college party area.

We travel to Charleston 5-6 times per year for business and to visit family/friends as well. This was our first time staying at the Hyatt Place and we will return! The parking garage is located immediately adjacent to the hotel which is great. The hotel is steps away from the great restaurants on upper King but because it is set back off of King it is quiet. The staff was very friendly, professional and helpful.

The location was perfect! King St. was literally at our front door—access to restaurants, bars, shopping, etc. I’m sure this is out of the hotel’s control, but maybe the City of Charleston should reserve the first or last two floors for hotel guests and the remainder be for public parking. However, parking in the garage was easy.

Excellent hotel, great breakfast, helpful staff, very walkable

Rooftop bar was nice....bartenders were friendly. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was cold each morning which was disappointing. Shower needs updating and water was cold one of the four mornings. Valer parking is managed by an outside company...expensive and they did jot lock our car doors. Luckily, our car send us a notice when the doors are unlocked so we contacted the valet to rectify it. Location was convenient to shops, bars, and restaurants but be prepared to walk.

The breakfast menu was sub-par. The selections were few and the quality could be better. The room was fine.

It would be nice if Hyatt Place had a few more options on the property for adding another restaurant option.

The price for parking is outrageous. We spent $49 for about 20 hours. The complimentary breakfast contained many options. However, everything was tepid to cold. Very unappetizing.

Super friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Place smelled great. Huge rooms. Would definitely stay here again.
