Quality Inn & Suites Clayton, NM

We actually did not stay at this hotel… We walked in, looked around the rather dirty facility, found 2 signs taped to the counter - one saying the pool and hot tub were out of order and one saying the ice machine was also out of order - and walked out. We drove down the street and checked into a different hotel.

Broken pool, hot tub, ice machine. Limited staff. Cancelled and rebooked elsewhere.

Room was ok. Service was ok. Breakfast was ok. Pool and hot tub were closed. Disappointing.

Room was nice, bed was comfortable, water pressure was good, and breakfast was hot and good at 6:30am. Sadly, the pool and ice machine weren't working, and obviously hadn't in a while.

These facilities are nice. The rooms are spacious and clean, and the beds are comfortable. The only knock was that the pool, hot tub, waffle maker and waffle cooker were all out of order, so the breakfast was lacking.

Everything was great; just wished the pool was functional

We chose to stay here because of the pool and hot tub, we get there and there are signs up that the pool and hot tub are closed.

The pool, hot tub and ive machine were all broken. But the place was clean and I slept great. Plus they had free movie channels like Starz.

The pool was closed. Price is somewhat high. The breakfast was good.

If your gonna advertise that you have a pool and charge $20 more than the place across the street then you should have the pool up and running OR lower your rates.

The room “appeared” to be clean at first glance, and after settling in I noticed food debris all over the floor. Under the tables and in between the bed and side tables. The carpet didn’t appear to have been vacuumed. There was hair all over the floor in the bathroom on the floor. The corners of the floor and around the baseboard was filthy with years of dirt and hair buildup. The shower and tub was super disgusting. The silicone around the tub was deteriorated and there was black scum and nastiness all over it. This just seems like basic maintenance to me, but apparently to the hotel they just don’t care. Thankfully we only had to stay there one night. I would never stay there again. On my next trip down to Texas for the stop over. I will just drive to the next town. This place is a dump.

We did not expect the ritz for this price, and I am not overly picky when it comes to cleanliness, but I would not stay here again. The floors were really gross even though not carpeted. I put towels down after my shower to walk on so my feet would not get dirty. The mattresses seemed really old and the beds squeaked when you turned over.

Check-in was flawless. Attendant was super nice. That is where is ends. Facility has aged poorly with little no maintenance upkeep. Got to room and went into bathroom where there were hairs all over everything. Bathtub was littered with long black hairs. Stains on bedding were all over comforter. Carpet at entrance to room 200 is torn up and no effort to correct. Room adjoining a/c stopped cooling in the middle of the night. Make this trip in the future, we will bypass Clayton and stay somewhere else.

Dirty sheets Not clean rooms

There was human excrement on the floor in the public restroom, which my 2 yo stepped in. The room we stayed in had 2 queen beds. I tucked my kids into one of the queen beds, and I immediately noticed 3 small roaches begin crawling on the top blanket. And lastly, there was no milk during the breakfast. It took the attendant 20 minutes to refill the milk carafe. The facility was just filthy overall.

Room 112 was dirty and had a musty dog smell. One of the queen beds had an obviously dirty comforter with a pee stain in the middle of the bed. The comforter pictures don’t do the dirtiness justice. The laminate flooring had not been swept or mopped, and was sticky to walk on. When we checked out, there was no one at the front desk to talk with concerning our stay, so we dropped our room key in the basket that was provided on the desk and left. This was definitely not a $144/night stay. We’ve stayed at this hotel on prior trips w/o issues, so we’re hoping this was a “one off” experience. Regardless, it definitely gives us pause to select this hotel in the future.

Room was dirty, still had key from previous occupant. Not vacuumed, bathroom dirty not swept. Yuck

We fell in love with Comfort Inn several years ago and thought the Quality Inn is in the Choice Hotel family, so we will stay here, instead of driving longer to find a Comfort Inn. HUGE mistake. The room was as if someone had lived in it and never got cleaned. Toilet had pee all over it, floor had black hair all over it, microwave had something spilled in it, fridge had crumbs in it, counters were filthy, something splashed on the wall. They wouldn’t answer the phone, so I went down and told them to give me some cleaning wipes, and I would clean it myself. It took me a good 45 minutes to clean. I cleaned the doorknobs, light switches, window sills, air conditioners, in addition to the appliances, bathroom, floor, wall, tables and sinks. The only thing I didn’t do was the carpet, so we made sure to keep our shoes on.The lotion was also used already. I was so tired and just wanted to sleep, so I didn’t even think to take pictures before I cleaned or I might have been able to get a refund. The night clerk gave me a brand new container of cleaning wipes, and I gave them back with less than half left in the large container. On top of that, I got on Hotels.com to get a cheaper rate. They charged me one price and the hotel clerk said it would have been a lot less,if I had gone straight through the hotel. So twice we got hit. Hotels.com tried to get me a refund, but since the hotel wouldn’t answer the phone, they said sorry, no refund. So, we were hit three times on this

Nothing is unique about this property it’s really a forced stop after hours of driving. We say every year we’ll never go back. But sadly it’s the cleanest of the dirty places. Both beds appeared to have been laid on, smells of smoke in non-smoking, don’t even try to take a bath. There is hair in every corner of the bathroom that includes the shower too. It’s just a horrible nasty motel. Has potential but they need to fire all the current cleaning crew and find someone that’s actually cleaning.

No pool or hot tub. Room was warm and the filters for ac unit was clogged. Our shower was disgusting and had to clean what we could before use. Our bed covers were stained. Crumbs all over the floor. My step son killed a cockroach by the elevator. Our family rented three rooms and they all had same complaints. The free breakfast had a scoop of eggs left, no sausage and no biscuits. The milk was chunky and watery in the fridge. Other than that it was a great stay

This is an affordable, convenient, and safe overnight stop. Coveribele couch bed wasn’t very comfortable, but main bed was very good.

Overall it was good. Have stayed here in the past and will do so in the future. Bed was comfortable, heater worked excellent, breakfast was good. Room was not real clean. Food, qtips, and crap behind bed and nightstands. Passing trucks and trains made a lot of noise. Will get a room in the back next time.

Property needed some work and updating but was good for a one night stay over. Staff were very nice.

Just had to clean out the fridge in my room because it’s making the whole room sell like rotten milk and wet dogs

Room was clean but there was a strong dog smell. Also a near by train woke us up at 3:30 am.

Old hotel, very musty smelling and a bit too humid inside. We stayed one night. We did not book it as we came home the other way from Texas back to Utah.

Tv not working. Shower wall and curtain had substance on both that looked dirty. No coffee at breakfast. Burnt sausage and watery eggs.

It was clean. Location was good. I went to the front desk to ask a question about vending, and no one was there. I stood there until my husband unloaded all of our luggage and needed the key to get back into the room, and no one ever came to the desk, so I just walked the halls looking for vending. Never found any and never saw a front desk worker. Not a big deal, I'm sure she was busy somewhere else. We had no trouble checking in or anything. Nothing negative against the attendant. Seemingly, she was working alone. The bed was unlike anything I had ever slept on, and not in a good way. It was like a memory foam on a plyboard on springs. Seriously reminded me of a padded wrestling rink. lol Lots of light in the room, like most hotels. I'm glad the parking lot is well lit, but I like it better when there's good blackout curtains. I will not choose this hotel again simply because of the bed. The 3 things I care about are cleanliness, bed comfort, and dark room. This hotel wins for cleanliness only.

Great stay and customer service

We were caught in a Blizzard so ended up staying in Clayton. The receptionist was super nice, patient and loving. She did more that what she had to do, to make everyone coming in feel safe and warm. The hotel it self was clean, and parking was big enough. We travel as a family.

We stayed during the blizzard. The manager was amazing! She handled a busy situation well. The facility was nice.

We did not stay here. Front desk staff was rude and blligerent. We were told the pool was closed when we showed up. When we expressed how disapointing this was as we had selected their hotel because of the pool their response was - nothing we can do about it. We asked to cancel our reservation. They refused and told us the room had already been charged. We again asked about cancelling our room and were told it was too late and that we should leave. Now we were being told that we were being charged and could not stay there. We have a right to refuse you service they screamed at us. After driving ten plus hours this was just too much. My 11-year old was standing there with us while this irate woman who also claimed to be the manager screamed at us and told us it was her right to refuse us service and that we were in the wrong. We left and booked another room. I will never return. We will be pursuing a refund. Calls to Quality Inn Corporate and Expedia have not helped. Apparently everyone is Ok with this hotel just taking our money and refusing us service. Will never book through Expedia or stay at a Quality Inn again.

Staff was nice

People (don’t know if it’s housekeeping or who) opened our room wide open when there was a do not disturb sign hanging on the door (and it was around 9am) and kept it wide open with ALL of our things in the room. And to make it better our room was right next to the elevator or everyone on our floor would pass our open room and see our things just sitting there. Absolutely flabbergasted at what my parents and I encountered. Shocked.

It was great place for me and my dog to get out of the truck in the middle of a snowstorm. Staff was working very hard to accommodate everyone.

Good location

Great location off the Highway and great parking. Although the property is somewhat dated, it's clean and just what we needed for one night. The price as right as well as there weren't many choices of where to stay in Clayton NM. Glad I picked this property.

The lot behind the hotel was a dump. That would not keep me from staying there again.

Good stopping point for traveling between Texas and Colorado

Close walking distance to restaurants. Nothing fancy but clean and quiet.

A great one-night stay with the family on the way to Red River! Nothing fancy, but staff was nice, room was clean, and they had coffee available in the evening. We didn't try the free breakfast, but it seemed popular. It's right across the street from a small dinosaur display, which is fun for the kids when the weather is nice! Limited dining around (most was closed when we arrived, at least) -- the Subway was decent, and there's an excellent coffee shop a few blocks away.

Easy access to highway

The pillows smush away to either side of your head, providing absolutely no support. The coffee, which was out of a weird little machine, was watery and thin, clearly instant. I would not stay here again.

Good hotel, good value. I didn't like the shower--high pressure, low volume, and not adjustable, and it looked like the shower head was a little corroded. Couldn't find any USB plugs in the room, but otherwise the room was comfortable. Breakfast was disappointing--watery (powdered?) eggs, one DIY waffle station. Water, milk, & OJ in pitchers rather than in a fridge. Hotel has a good location, within easy driving distance of several restaurants. Staff was very helpful providing info about nearby restaurants, including operating hours.

Nice rooms, and quiet. The bathtub seems to need a good scrub. Good selection at breakfast and the food was good, but the milk they had out was definitely spoiled. All in all, not a bad stay, not a great stay.
