Hotel du Vin Birmingham

So yes I would recommend Hotel du vin, with a few caveats First, the room was lovely, bed was very comfy, and the staff where amazing! Full 5 star treatment. Lovely furnishing, and overall a really nice hotel. The reason it's not 5 stars from me, the toilet handle wasn't working, you had to pump it to get it to flush and it felt like it may break when you did pump it. The toilet seat wasn't placed right so when you sat on the toilet you would get knocked in the back with it. It was quite funny, or at least we laughed about it, but not ideal and not what I would expect from a suite. The overall comfort level was high, and the bed could sleep 5 with how big it was. Extremely comfy. shower head was at a funny angle so I had to stand really close to the shower dial, which defeats the point of having a massive walk in shower but still a great room, the air freshener flashed blue at night so it was like having a mini police car in the room, once again we did laugh about this and it was simple enough to just unplug it. The main issue we had is on the last night we returned quite late from our day out and took the lift back to the 3rd floor, when we got to the second floor the lift stalled on 2 then the screen flashed, lift failure!! We both look at each other in a panic then laughed, as we reach for the call button the lift shuddered and started back up and reached the final floor. This is in no way the staff or hotels fault, so my advice is to take the stair!! 4.9/5, thanks hdv

Booked a Deluxe room which was spacious and comfortable. Disappointed there was no fridge or safe in the room, but there was plenty of coffee/tea options (as with all hotels not enough milk) and biscuits/chocolates. Shower was big and water pressure good with plenty of hot water. We didn’t eat at the hotel as there were so many restaurants & cafes nearby. Within walking distance of shops and attractions. The staff at reception and in the bar were friendly and polite. Received a discount when parking at B4 car park about a 5 minute walk away. We would stay again if in Birmingham.

We stayed in an absolutely beautiful junior suite, with an exquisite bathroom, shower and toiletries. Staff were welcoming and courteous. We had drinks in the smart but still cosy and comfortable Bubble Bar and breakfast the following morning was served in the lovely restaurant and was delicious. As expected, an excellent hotel.

Great location, comfy bed, however the room was very noisy (corridor noise). Also construction work is ongoing- nice drink token left to recognise this. One issue is the lobby, the entrance doors are very hard to open by yourself with bags as you are on the stairs. But overall good stay.

Hotel location was perfect, advertised with parking but 3 spaces out the front which is next to impossible to get a space in peak times. multi story close by but with bags bit of a drag. Nosiey radiator rattling on arrival and was told they’d move us but didn’t because they’d “fixed” it… then came on from 2am until we checked out…. Little disappointed. Paid a lot for 2 nights and expected more.

It was fine for our little stay, got upgraded to a suite. The lift was out of order, some things in the room didn't work, and for some reason (possibly due the aforementioned lift) we couldn't get room service. But other than that, it was pleasing ☺️

Lift broken, just lacking in character

Great hotel, bistro, bar and food wonderful. Missed breakfast daily as had to be out pre the restaurant opening which was a real shame.

Overnight stay for a work dinner - lovely comfy bed, nice bar downstairs, good shower - no complaints!

Lovely building and on first look room was great but looking a bit tired, mould in corner of shower, badly stained carpet etc. For this price I would also expect fresh milk for coffee in the room. Sadly understaffed so there was no room service. However fabulous lady on check in who helped with my bags

Really clean and spacious room. Lovely bath, shower and bed.

It is a period building, and has some lovely features, but the hotel looks tired, and there were quite a few 'niggles' with decor and deep-level cleanliness.

This is a charming and comfy hotel in central Birmingham. The rooms are clean, well kept, and comfy. The staff is wonderful and helpful. I will absolutely stay again the next time I come to Birmingham.

Stayed in room Taylor Port for 1 night with my wife. Room was fine, but the bathroom was a disgrace. Stains in the toilet and sink, while the shower dispensed only very hot water on the coldest setting. I call it a shower despite it being a fixed shower head from above and not the handheld ones, which most hotels have - not to mention it wasn’t a standalone shower but combined with the bathtub. I was so disappointed I checked out early and stayed in the hotel down the road, namely Grand Hotel. I’ve stayed in HDV at least 20 times, but based on my recent experience I shall not be returning.

The hotel has beautiful Victorian decor. The room was spacious and clean. Well maintained. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.

I was just expecting more I think. The room felt very tired and dated, although the room was large, it was dark and not very welcoming. All the fixtures and fittings were tired around the edges, and quite dusty. The bathroom was large and the shower huge and to be fair was all very clean. Toiletries etc lovely touch. Bed very comfortable and I slept well. I just think as I say, the room I was in was tired and nothing special. I only stayed for one night and if I had been staying any longer I think I would have been quite disappointed.

Room was pokey and dark, space was so tight, the wardrobe door could not be opened fully to access the tea and coffee making facilities. No fridge, air con. Didn’t work, heated towel rail didn’t work, bedside lamp didn’t work. Nice toiletries, but nailed to the wall . Service in the bar was good, didn’t eat at hotel, so can’t comment .

We had a fabulous stay this weekendhere, we had a deluxe room that was spacious, clean, and luxurious. The cocktail bar and breakfast room were both very tastefully decorated and well-serviced by attentive staff and quality produce. Felt very well looked after. Many thanks.

Room were quite small but overall it did the job for an overnight city stay

The room is lovely but cramped in places. Between the bed and the sideboard to get to the bathroom, you have to walk sideways! The toilet is in a corner where you cannot sit comfortably.

Lovely hotel in great position for theatres, restaurants etc. All Hotel de Vin are in quirky buildings this being the old eye hospital so do not expect your normal rooms. Our room was very large & the bathroom enormous with the largest shower I have ever seen along with a glorious deep free standing bath. Very comfortable, excellent bed linen & toiletries. Staff extremely pleasant.

Service at reception on arrival was poor. Room looked OK at first glance but for a "deluxe" room amenities limited. Room was starting to show it's age. Cold no matter what you changed heating to. Traffic noise too loud and was woken up by it throughout the night. Music was blaring from somewhere and bass vibration was felt until 5am. Couldn't work out if private function in hotel bar or from another room. Service in restaurant was terrible.

I wasn’t bowled over, the hotel could do with a make over, it’s fine but not amazing.

Room tired, e.g.toilet stained, fridge didn't work, broken chair. Biggest issue was heating - sudden extremely loud noise started (sounded like a helicopter landing). Called reception and asked for new room, told that maintenance would come and bleed radiators. Solved issue for only half an hour, then the noise started again. We were then given a different room which was okay until 7.30am next morning when the same heating noise from a neighbouring room woke us up. So disappointed, and not even a gesture as an apology.

Expected more of a Hotel du Vin based on stays at other ones. Seemed like they needed more staff and the hotel looked a bit tired. Lucky we got to breakfast before the rush and they ran out of juice and had a massive queue at the coffee machine. The cooked breakfast was nice, the bed was big and comfy and the towels were big. Will probably look for somewhere else next time.

The hotel bar man who worked on Saturday night was Amazing and our trip would not of been the same without his hard work, efficiency and kindness ! ( we forgot to get his name) but thankyou so much !

After negotiating a very heavy stiff front door we were greeted by a very underwhelming welcome. We explained we were early and would like to leave our bags. The receptionist took my detail and issued us with bag tags. We went away and came back and the same receptionist had forgotten us and the exchange we had literally 3 hours previously. We finally got to the room which was lovely except no heating in the bathroom or shower gel in the dispenser. I mentioned this to reception on check out and was given a half hearted apology…. On a plus the staff in the bar were excellent !! It’s a shame that you use this site and use your points to treat yourself and the hotel looks down on you… also no breakfast included with the stay… poor value for money on something that should of been a lovely experience

Arrived at 2.45pm for a 3pm check in. Room was not ready had a a drink in the bar tried to check in again at 3.15 Room still not ready. Having a dinner appointment at 3.30pm elsewhere meant we could not change and freshen up for this appointment. Arrived back to the hotel at 5pm room still not ready. I had booked a signature suite not a standard room and expected a little more effort be made to get the room ready. Eventually got in to the room at 5.15pm. Although the hotel is very nice the service is very poor no reason given to why the room was not ready. The grand hotel just up the road eclipses the service received at this hotel.

Great hotel with lots of character. The lobby/entrance is beautiful. Room was huge with lots of attention to detail. Food in the restaurant was amazing, tye bar was the perfect place to relax also. Overall a great stay, staff were great and would book again. Keep up the good work.

The Hotel Du Vin is well located for shopping and restaurants. It has an excellent breakfast selection (we didnt dine in the evening so cannot comment). Staff were friendly, polite and knowlegeable.

The room was fine, but the bteakfast was a little disappointing; the jot playe was good, but we kept having to ask for refills for milk, for pastries etc....on borh mornings!

Small standard rooms but v comfy beds. Huge bathroom with great shower. As ever, the rooms are overheated - turn it down by 5 degrees and help save the planet and a huge heating bill! Lovely and helpful staff. Ate in the bistro. Food is over priced and of mediocre quality. Had we properly planned we’d have eaten elsewhere. Check in and out v easy.
