Ayres Lodge Alpine, was an excellent experience, especially for the price. I stayed there two weeks and even put family up in another room one night. I must recommend it especially to other EV owners, as they have a very favorable charging policy, and at least while I was there, fewer EV driving guests than chargers, so there was always a Level 2 (40Amp) NACS plug available. The bath and room were clean. The switch for the bath was creatively located, but once found it posed no hardship. As for the tub/shower. This is the only time on this Earth that I've found a tub that had a good grip on my feet and didn't look unclean. I don't know who made those tubs (rooms 105 and 131), but they were awesome. No slip. I have no idea if the TV worked, I generally don't use those, but it was of adequate size, possibly 42" or larger. The staff were awesome. Front desk was available, friendly and helpful at all hours. The free breakfast was limited but good. Scrambled eggs (probably reconstituted, but good) and bacon, or maybe sausage. Biscuit (perhaps a little stodgy, but substantial) was adequate, Coffee was excellent. Pastries/bagels/etc were limited. Certainly worth the price, though I sometimes took breakfast elsewhere for variety. I used the apparently well kept laundry facilities once while there. 3 washers and 3 dryers, all commercial front-loaders. Amenities abound at the open-air "mall" that shares the parking lot. Didn't try everything, but what I had was fine.

The lodge was undergoing extensive renovation at the time of our stay. Nevertheless, staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Access to a major interstate was very easy. The lodge is surrounded by a several eating establishments and other services. The room were in excellent condition; breakfast was ok, enough to keep you going until lunch.

Do not ever under any circumstances ever consider staying here . I made a reservation through Expedia Payment was taken and the hotel confirmed the reservation I arrived late after a long day and a flight from NY there was no one at the counter, but there was a sign saying back in 10 minutes, so I proceeded to sit down and wait and wait at some point The phone rang and a woman emerged from the back with a bell that she proceeded to place on the counter saying ring the bell for service. Meanwhile, the phone rang and she immediately picked up the phone as if I wasn’t even there and then told the person that there was one room left and that they were going to get it and took all the information and proceeded to deal with me at that point she told me that I did not have a reservation so I showed her the reservation on my phone. She said she could check in another area showing enough. She said my reservation was canceled canceled by who she said it was canceled because it was overbooked and that, I should’ve received a phone call but they didn’t have my phone number. This is absolutely ridiculous because she gave somebody else a room five minutes before. If she would’ve taken the time just to speak with me before she took the phone call maybe I would’ve had a room instead I had to drive at half hour all the way back to Chula Vista because there’s no hotels anywhere near that area. It was a disgrace never mind that it’s run down. I would rather stay at the Bates Motel.
