a great stay. the grounds are beautiful and lovely to sit with a drink overlooking the lake. All the staff were a credit to the establishment so friendly and helpful. lovely room with a balcony. it is an old building which is part of its charm, the balcony area needed a bit of tlc, the room however was lovely and a really comfy bed. would return in a heartbeat

Lovely hotel in beautiful surroundings. Accommodation very good. Food wonderful. Staff very helpful and friendly. Staffing seemed a bit stretched at times but this seems to be a Common issue across the hospitality industry. Location is great. Lovely walks and easy walking access to Battle.

We had a fabulous stay. Everything was perfect, from the welcoming log fire in the entrance hall and friendly reception staff, through to the very spacious rooms and delicious food in the dining room. We were staying with our adult daughter so had reserved 2 rooms which were both upgraded, plus we had our dog with us but this was no problem because they are very dog friendly. We had to eat in the Orangery because of our dog but it was delightful, and the food was excellent and not expensive. The location is stunning and very peaceful by the lake, with lots of great walks. It is a drive from anywhere else so don't expect other restaurants or shops nearby but it's not far to get into Battle where there's more facilities. Highly recommend!

Beautiful country house hotel, extremely dog friendly. Our room was lovely & exactly what we needed for our two day break. All of the staff that we met were very welcoming & attentive. We couldn’t find fault & will certainly be staying at this hotel again. Can’t wait for our next visit.

So glad we booked this hotel. The grounds and hotel were amazing. Dogs were welcomed. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The food was really good. The hotel room was spacious and extremely clean. You would be hard pressed to find fault.

Beautiful old hotel with great character and wonderfully furnished with period pieces. You are staying in an elegant country house in beautiful grounds. The breakfast room is large and luxurious and the staff are attentive and friendly. It's a great start to the day. Although we notified reception, there was no heating in our bedroom and bathroom for the last 24 hours. It was very cold. The compensation of £20 off the £120 room rate was quite underwhelming. Despite this inconvenience, we would stay at Powdermills again because of its elegance, the ambience and its luxurious feeling.

Lovely location, staff excellent, but property & rooms now beginning to look tired and need a refurbishment. Found the lighting in our room poor, no overhead lights just low wattage lamps. Restaurant in the evening also too dark for my liking. Bed was large and very comfortable, but bathroom small with no shower and leaking taps when turned on. In places far to much sealant had been applied. Floor in our room uneven in places. That said, it served our purpose, but wont be going back.

Wonderful grounds with footpath right into Battle village. Lovely room with balcony, although the balcony could have done with a good sweep. Considering the large size of the room the guest experience would have been much enhanced by the addition of a small fridge. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Lovely hotel in beautiful grounds but would question the four star status. Service levels varied, room was clean but skimped on tea bags, milk and toiletries, not what you’d expect from a 4 star hotel. The bath was very slippery and even worse if we used the bath mat provided (we reported this as a health & safety issue). If we ordered toast at breakfast it would be one slice each. The restaurant and bar are overpriced.

Lovely hotel and friendly staff. A few things not working properly in the room. But this did not effect our stay. Light and door handle broken. Comfortable and would definitely return in the summer time.

Lovely hotel room was above expectation. Prices very reasonable. Awakening in the morning to realise there were no towels but rectified with a call to reception. Breakfast was tasty but a bit on the cold side. Definately recommend the hotel to all my friends and will visit again when in the area

Very nice property, enquired on checkin about VIP upgrade and told no rooms available, when in my room above entertainment area the noise was unbearable so went to reception who then moved me to another room. (All though full) so they do not give upgrades to VIP guests. Gorgeous hotel would stay again

Overall, I would stay at the Powdermills again, but it wasn't as peaceful as I would have expected. The inn allows animals, and the barking was incessant (the thin walls didn't help for not hearing the neighbors either). Also, if you are allergic to animals, the inn does not have separate rooms where animals are allowed to stay versus rooms where they are not. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was incredible.

A true Country House Hotel with beautiful grounds and furnishibgs. Everyone was very helpful and my only criticism is around the food. We took a table in the restaurent where we were given al a cart menus from which we ordered three courses each. The food was well presented and well cooked, about which I have no complaint but the prices were very high (just under £180 with a bottle of medium quality wine ). It was not untill I saw people being served dishes not on the menu we had been offered that I discovered that there is also a "Bistro" menu which is more favorably priced. We were never offered this option. I am not saying we woukd have ordered from the cheaper menu but we should have been offered. My second criticism is over the breakfast. The hot dishes are pre-cooked but, unlike other establishments, it is served by a member of staff. One sausage, two small pueces of bacon, a small scoop of scrambled eggs. I realise that this is probably an attampt reduce costs but I would guess that the amount saved against the cost of wages, even at minimum wage, is negligable. All the above taken into account, we will certainly return but will approach the catering better informed and prepared

The breakfast room is large and luxurious and the staff are attentive and friendly. It's a great start to the day. Although we notified reception, there was no heating in our bedroom and bathroom for the last 24 hours. It was very cold. The compensation of £20 off the £120 room rate was quite underwhelming. Despite this inconvenience, we would stay at Powdermills again because of its elegance, the ambience and its luxurious feeling.

Quick and friendly check in. My room was away from the main hotel in a separate building. The condition and facilities in the room were as expected. Bed was very comfortable. Food in the restaurant was good, the service from all staff I encountered was fantastic. Would definitely stay again.

Really lovely stay. I booked 5 rooms for a wedding and staff could not have been nicer. Special thanks to Tracey on reception and Ray in the bar. Only not picky points are that the shower wasn’t great and the beds were too soft. Powdermills is a beautiful hotel in a picture perfect setting

A wonderful overnight stay in an idyllic country hotel, full of character and history going back to 1676. Shown around the old section by Kate whose knowledge and enthusiasm for it's history as well as the care for her customers was fantastic. The breakfast was perfect as was the room we occupied overlooking the lake. The resident peacock was in the grounds to add to the spectacle.

A lovely hotel in a stunning location. Our room in the Cloisters was comfortable, clean and well appointed. Breakfast was very tasty with plenty of choice. The grounds are stunning, and the hotel is ideally placed to explore Battle, Hastings and the surrounding 1066 countryside.

We had a fabulous stay. Everything was perfect, from the welcoming log fire in the entrance hall and friendly reception staff, through to the very spacious rooms and delicious food in the dining room. We were staying with our adult daughter so had reserved 2 rooms which were both upgraded, plus we had our dog with us but this was no problem because they are very dog friendly. We had to eat in the Orangery because of our dog but it was delightful, and the food was excellent and not expensive. The location is stunning and very peaceful by the lake, with lots of great walks. It is a drive from anywhere else so don't expect other restaurants or shops nearby but it's not far to get into Battle where there's more facilities. Highly recommend!

Enjoyed the stay although was really only to spend the night as I was attending a concert nearby. Friendly and efficient welcome and a good breakfast. Lovely grounds and in a quiet location.

I enjoyed my stay very much and I would recommend your hotel. The room was lovely, cosy and had excellent views over the lake and fountain. However the vegetarian option at dinner was very poor, I could have done better at Sainsbury's in five minutes and a few pounds. It was dry and tastless the staff were charming when we complained and reduced our bill and offered another choice of food, so our complaint was dealt with very well.

A true Country House Hotel with beautiful grounds and furnishibgs. Everyone was very helpful and my only criticism is around the food. We took a table in the restaurent where we were given al a cart menus from which we ordered three courses each. The food was well presented and well cooked, about which I have no complaint but the prices were very high (just under £180 with a bottle of medium quality wine ). It was not untill I saw people being served dishes not on the menu we had been offered that I discovered that there is also a "Bistro" menu which is more favorably priced. We were never offered this option. I am not saying we woukd have ordered from the cheaper menu but we should have been offered. My second criticism is over the breakfast. The hot dishes are pre-cooked but, unlike other establishments, it is served by a member of staff. One sausage, two small pueces of bacon, a small scoop of scrambled eggs. I realise that this is probably an attampt reduce costs but I would guess that the amount saved against the cost of wages, even at minimum wage, is negligable. All the above taken into account, we will certainly return but will approach the catering better informed and prepared

Wonderful hotel - not modern but so clean and comfortable that this did not matter - modern is not always better! Best breakfast I’ve had in a hotel - fresh and hot! Dinner was superb too! Excellent chef! Beautiful surroundings - loved the peacocks!

We loved our stay, especially the real log fire at the entrance! Room was nice size, and we liked the view and balcony. The low rise building was lovely, and the library cozy. Sadly, because of the mud, we could not make the lake walk. The food, however, was a disappointment, undercooked chicken, cold scrambled egg…

Disappointing experience . When I informed reception at 6.15 pm that we had no water for the bath or shower I was told there wasn't any maintenance available . So neither I or my wife could have a shower that evening or the next morning ( today ) . On check out I reminded the manager of this problem , but no redress or discount was offered ; until I asked for a discount . Even then the only discount offered was the removal of the service charge on the evening meal ( as this charge was discretionary I could have refused to pay it anyway ) . When paying £250 per night , the least that can be expected is running water !

Had a lovely stay at Powdermills. This is a real hidden gem - beautiful grounds, comfortable room, friendly attentive staff, lovely food etc Decor a bit dated and tired, but understand due for a refresh soon.
