Biggest pool we ever saw; well handled. -too many rules at the pool (only one entry/exit) can't sit on the edge, no food at our chairs, inconsistent music at the pool. It could stay open longer too. Loved the singer on the terrace and 24 hr staff. Breakfast was terrific! So many options.

The over all stay here was good and we both enjoyed our room, most staff were very friendly and helpful with the exception of one. Disappointed that the pool and tennis facilities were not available.

Our stay was great! Staff was helpful and friendly. The breakfast every morning was nice. The pool was clean and huge. The hotel is outdated and could use some renovations. Location of the hotel is near the top so maybe a 15 minute walk down to the beach and 10 minutes down to shopping and restaurants. Luggage porters are available for $10 per bag.

Pluses: the pool is a 10/10. Deep, large and well kept. The views are phenomenal and the outdoor patios and balconies really take full advantage of the views. The lunch bar is great. The staff was friendly and helpful. The grounds are well maintained and beautiful throughout. Minuses: the interior needs a LOT of updating. It appears the last facility upgrade was in the mid 90s and while it is actively maintained the wear is obvious. Definitely needs new showers and new furnishings. Room amenities are few and feel more like 2 star than 4 star. The breakfast is mediocre compared to most hotels in this price point. The hotel is at the top end of upper Positano and it's a substantial walk to get to shopping and most of the restaurants. Probably 20 minutes down to the beach and 30 minutes back for anyone with moderate to good cardio. The walk is not for older folks or young kids. That said, we stayed with our four teenage kids and they loved the pool and enjoyed the Hotel Royal. If you are staying in Positano on a family budget, its a good choice to stay, just be aware of the trade offs. Note the nearby restaurant of Ristorante C'Era Una Volta is an absolute gem and is the best bang for the buck food, service and views in Positano.

Although could do with updating, this charming hotel had clean and comfortable rooms with a good buffet breakfast. Be prepared for all the steps down to the centre (and up) although there is a bus that stops right outside the hotel. It did however have a great swimming pool with towels provided with a bar that provided drinks and snacks, which was a rest bite from the bustle of a very crowded beach and sea front. And of course the view from the pool and indeed our room was magnificent.

Really enjoyed our stay. I came with very low expectations due to bad review on hotel.com. I was very impressed with my stay as the service was excellent and family room was huge compare to other hotels. The pool was really nice. We had it to ourselves as not many guest stayed there during October. Only downside to the hotel is that it’s far up in the hills of Positano. It’s a 15 minute walk down and you can take the local bus up for €1.30. So overall very good experience. I don’t recommend driving to the hotel as parking is expensive.

Located in a beautiful spot on the mountain with great views of the mountain and sea. Swimming pool great, lovely tennis court and evening entertainment was a bonus-Gino was fab with his one man band and performance. What wasn’t so great ….we had no pre holiday welcome information from the hotel so first day finding the place was hard. We walked it all the way up and it wasn’t easy! It was hot and we felt like we were climbing up and up. We were exhausted. We later found that the local Positano Mobility bus stopped right outside the hotel and took you to the centre and the beach with a regular service. If only someone had told us that! The hotel is located with good connections also to the Sita bus which is cheap to ride and takes you to other coastal towns. It is really convenient and the ride is spectacular and scenic. Wish we had this information before our trip. The Hotel also didn’t provide any coffee or tea in the rooms so be prepared to pay for that at the restaurant or bar. Ladies.. bring your hair dryer. I left my one at home and the one in the hotel was one of those cheap European wall hair dryers! The flexi pipe got quite hot! It was terrible. Reception staff need to be a bit more hospitable. They were friendly but spoke very little. Overall, great location with great connections to the local buses and Sita stop a stone throw away. Room was cleaned every day and pleasant to stay in. Beautiful views.

Check in is from 4pm, which is way too late. Then the pool closes at 6pm each day. It was 5pm when we arrived.. the sun was still out for another 5 hours, we were hot, tired and sweaty, ready for a swim but nope. Had to check out before the pool even opened the next day too.

The room was not very clean. As a matter of fact, the first room we were given, the couch , sofa bed broke when my husband sat. I was very tired and went to take a nap. I removed the duvet and found a hair, looked like a pubic hair and close to it, a stain on the sheets. I had my husband call the front desk and I had them move us. I have attached of that too.

We had an amazing stay! The customer service was outstanding — everyone was so friendly and helpful. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable, and the location couldn’t have been more perfect. The food at the hotel restaurant was absolutely delicious, and the facilities were beautiful and well-maintained. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a wonderful experience!

My wife and daughter arrived, checking in, the hotel is old, needs a serious facelift, the room was dirty, they found countless hairs all over the bed sheets and comforter. The desk was missing a chair to sit at, the rooms were small and were what we feel were properly depicted in the pictures. My wife spoke with the front desk, was shown other rooms and then quickly checked out after staying there for about an hour. The front desk was receptive, tried it wasn't the staffs fault it was just the rooms weren't clean and were very run down.

The staff were amazing and this hotel had a stunning view at the top of the mountain. You must be prepared to hike up insanely high stairways or dangerous narrow road or take the bus. There’s no shuttles and the taxi charges a fortune just to take you down the mountain. This hotel needs an overhaul. They’ve put no money into the property ever! The whole place is infested with aunts on all exterior patios. They make their way inside and we’re crawling on my toothbrush! There was nowhere to put bottles in the shower as the shelves fell off the wall. I’m sure there was black mould growing too. The beds had no mattress covers on them which is disgusting and no fitted bottom sheet. Just a top sheet tucked in. There’s no glasses or anything in the room. Just two paper cups. No kettle, no nothing. It’s a stair maze getting around and the elevators don’t go to all floors so you’re hauling your bags up and down the stairs. The one little elevator was out of order and again, didn’t reach all floors. Be prepared for an insane workout just to get in and out if the building. This property has potential, just needs work and to have proper bedding. Everything looked grungy and not cleaned. Towels were stained and not crisp. They should be bleaching. The breakfast included was decent and the staff made great cappuccino and were so kind. So all in all, great staff but cannot recommend to anyone unless you like grungy and dark.

Had a great trip to Positano! Like many other reviews this hotel needs some updates around the property. However I will say we appreciated the maids and cleaning staff(room was also refreshed perfectly!) fresh towels everyday, great balcony and a lot it had to offer. The bus is amazing and a MUST use if you stay here. Breakfast was also very nice and they have a wonderful patio to dine on if the weather is nice- breakfast staff are very attentive and kind.

Toilet had stool marks from previous guest, linens were dirty, pillows dirty, towels were old and had holes. This is not even a 2 star. Parking was 40 euros! and took an hour to get the car and cash only.

Disgusting!!!!!! I aksed for a high chair what they gave me was covered in food and dirt. I couldn’t put my daughter in it . She sat on mu lap. Thank god i was smart only booked one night. Mold on walls towels had stains and sheets had stains

Very nice view from balcony. Big washroom and spacious room. Very nice breakfast with view. Need to walk a lot to get into the floor and room. Hotel should've talked more about the luggage service. We thought it was a scam, but they were very useful to move luggage around.

Bus stop right at top or front desk could call a cab Shops right at bus stop drop off Ate in restaurant delicious and super service . Staff was nice and helpful and the view was incredible. Room was very sparse and dated. Furniture was very worn. Not what I would expect for the high price. To get to your room was like a maze that we never quite figured out. Breakfast was plentiful but tasted premade or packaged, not fresh. Very inconvenient if you want to go into town, better be good with stairs or have the patience to wait on the bus. Not worth the price.

Very nice location and view from the balcony of the room. The breakfast was great. The room was spacious and clean. The scents from the Jasmine flowers was so nice on the hotel stairway. It made for a very relaxing visit to a busy area. The internet service was spotty and sometimes didn't work at all but kind of nice to stay disconnected and enjoy the local scene. We would stay again.

Very nice view from balcony. Big washroom and spacious room. Very nice breakfast with view. Need to walk a lot to get into the floor and room. Hotel should've talked more about the luggage service. We thought it was a scam, but they were very useful to move luggage around.

This property does have a beautiful pool with a nice view. It’s up farther on the hill from town but there is a local bus stop right outside the hotel. The hotel rooms are run down and do not reflect the pictures. The kids’ beds were not good and I paid for a sea view but from the window in the room was not that at all. The staff was generally dismissive. I wouldn’t stay here again.

I will only add to all the previous reviews that this place is definitely not worth what it’s charging. It’s pretty tired and in need of a lot of attention. Most disappointing was the front desk staff. Totally disinterested and even contemptuous. Zero idea what service should be. Grumpy and aggressively unhelpful. I would never stay here again.

Property not as advertised. Non functioning pool, and there is no piano bar; it is an electric keyboard in the cafeteria. Excessive noise at night from the restaurant, and in the morning from cleaning staff. Phone in the room also did not work. The reception staff was combative when filing complaints. We left a night early. When asking for a discount due to the poor conditions, we were told by staff that no accommodations could be made and to speak with Expedia. I filed a complaint with Expedia and they also were “unable” to address our concerns. Do not recommend.

I will just say that the hotel it’a self is okay. The service people in the front are kind of useless. as a first time traveler it was super confusing how to get shuttle service to the beach. You can’t get coffee until 7:30 which was kind of a pain because we had a early flight. We needed help with our bags and no one could help at check out. in addition, our room had half used bottle in the refrigerator and laying around. They are not very accommodating to the guests. Not to mention how to find everything it’s super confusing and the pool is not kept very clean. I would spend another $500 and stay somewhere else

Had a great trip to Positano! Like many other reviews this hotel needs some updates around the property. However I will say we appreciated the maids and cleaning staff(room was also refreshed perfectly!) fresh towels everyday, great balcony and a lot it had to offer. The bus is amazing and a MUST use if you stay here. Breakfast was also very nice and they have a wonderful patio to dine on if the weather is nice- breakfast staff are very attentive and kind.

Our stay at the Hotel Royal Positano was truly unforgettable. The location is incredible, high in the mountains with breathtaking views of Positano. The staff was amazing, especially the manager who went above and beyond to help my fiancé plan the most special proposal. They made the moment so magical that this hotel will always hold a very special place in our hearts. Another big plus was the pool and food service, we were able to enjoy relaxing days at the hotel without needing to leave and walk 20k steps 😅. During our stay, they also helped us in a time of need when our airport shuttle didn’t show up, immediately arranging transportation so we wouldn’t miss our flight. Their kindness, dedication, and hospitality are unmatched. We can’t wait to come back!

Vi kom med bil och det var väldigt besvärligt med parkering men de löste det bra ändå. Uteslutande yngre killar som jobbade här och även om de säkert ville hjälpa till så glömde de bort kunden hela tiden. Slitet hotell men ok frukost och bra AC. Det går att gå ner och upp till stan men tillbakavägen är inte rolig med ca 400 trappsteg i 95% fuktighet och 30 graders värme. Ta taxi tillbaka. Poolen var ok men sista dagen var den helt grön och ingen kunde bada där...

The property is far from the beach but well communicated by bus or taxi, take in consideration that even if you use the taxis the day you arrive and leave you have to pay for transporters for the luggage due to the taxis go from the center of the city to the hotel but there are several stairs that you can not walk if you have large luggage . The room was very big, I had a great view with a nice balcony. Bed was comfortable. The hotel is on the hill so it has great views but it's a long way from the city center. There is a bus stop just opposite the hotel. Breakfast was standard, croissant, cakes, eggs, some fruits, juice, coffee, tea.

Our stay was great! Staff was helpful and friendly. The breakfast every morning was nice. The pool was clean and huge. The hotel is outdated and could use some renovations. Location of the hotel is near the top so maybe a 15 minute walk down to the beach and 10 minutes down to shopping and restaurants. Luggage porters are available for $10 per bag.

We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. We would say the condition of the property isn’t poor but just old. The hotel could do with a refurb and update (eg wardrobes painting…) but the hotel was very clean and comfortable. It was nice having the swimming pool to use in the day. Long way from the port but the buses were very good. Highly recommend using the bus to get down and up.

Located in a beautiful spot on the mountain with great views of the mountain and sea. Swimming pool great, lovely tennis court and evening entertainment was a bonus-Gino was fab with his one man band and performance. What wasn’t so great ….we had no pre holiday welcome information from the hotel so first day finding the place was hard. We walked it all the way up and it wasn’t easy! It was hot and we felt like we were climbing up and up. We were exhausted. We later found that the local Positano Mobility bus stopped right outside the hotel and took you to the centre and the beach with a regular service. If only someone had told us that! The hotel is located with good connections also to the Sita bus which is cheap to ride and takes you to other coastal towns. It is really convenient and the ride is spectacular and scenic. Wish we had this information before our trip. The Hotel also didn’t provide any coffee or tea in the rooms so be prepared to pay for that at the restaurant or bar. Ladies.. bring your hair dryer. I left my one at home and the one in the hotel was one of those cheap European wall hair dryers! The flexi pipe got quite hot! It was terrible. Reception staff need to be a bit more hospitable. They were friendly but spoke very little. Overall, great location with great connections to the local buses and Sita stop a stone throw away. Room was cleaned every day and pleasant to stay in. Beautiful views.

Biggest pool we ever saw; well handled. -too many rules at the pool (only one entry/exit) can't sit on the edge, no food at our chairs, inconsistent music at the pool. It could stay open longer too. Loved the singer on the terrace and 24 hr staff. Breakfast was terrific! So many options.

Pluses: the pool is a 10/10. Deep, large and well kept. The views are phenomenal and the outdoor patios and balconies really take full advantage of the views. The lunch bar is great. The staff was friendly and helpful. The grounds are well maintained and beautiful throughout. Minuses: the interior needs a LOT of updating. It appears the last facility upgrade was in the mid 90s and while it is actively maintained the wear is obvious. Definitely needs new showers and new furnishings. Room amenities are few and feel more like 2 star than 4 star. The breakfast is mediocre compared to most hotels in this price point. The hotel is at the top end of upper Positano and it's a substantial walk to get to shopping and most of the restaurants. Probably 20 minutes down to the beach and 30 minutes back for anyone with moderate to good cardio. The walk is not for older folks or young kids. That said, we stayed with our four teenage kids and they loved the pool and enjoyed the Hotel Royal. If you are staying in Positano on a family budget, its a good choice to stay, just be aware of the trade offs. Note the nearby restaurant of Ristorante C'Era Una Volta is an absolute gem and is the best bang for the buck food, service and views in Positano.

The hotel is great beautiful views. A bit high and hard to get to I wouldn't recommend for older couples. Although there is bus to get there you can't take your luggages on it. The restaurant is over priced and if you have kids in would say go eat somewhere else as the kids menu sucks.

The bathroom were a little outdated and not the cleanest in general, nothing found however felt like it could've used a good scrub down given the price/level of the hotel. Staff was great and helpful when required. The hotel it’s really outdated, and ridiculously overpriced. The breakfast was also bad. The only positive ill say is the staff is very friendly and helpful. Also there is a bus stop right in front of the hotel that can take you straight to main plaza.
The hotel it’s really outdated, and ridiculously overpriced. The breakfast was also bad. The only positive ill say is the staff is very friendly and helpful. Also there is a bus stop right in front of the hotel that can take you straight to main plaza.

Everything was amazing! We felt very welcomed there. Breakfast is very good. The only thing is that the air conditioner was too small for the bedroom, and considering the weather was very hot, it stayed a little bit hot in the night. But apart from that, our experience was amazing. The pool is very good, and also the bar in the pool.

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Positano in Italy. The hotel was clean, comfortable, and welcoming, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our visit.
