It's an old building so yes you guessed it some things in there may well be old! Consider the Premier Inn and other hotels in the area were around double the price then this place offered good value for money and is very central and convenient, free parking too which is a bonus.

Good location near the train station. Walking distance to many places of interest, restaurants and shops. Lift was fairly dodgy but it seems there are plans afoot to replace it. Room was a little run down but beds were OK and shower was hot.

My hotel room was the a long way from reception which was not a problem. However, in my opinion they should put signs for the direction to reception. Car park was very limited.

As nice hotel just outside the railway station and on the A6 main road into Carlisle it was easy to find. Instructions for finding the car park would help.

Close to where I wanted to go. Receptionist gave excellent directions to manoeuvre the back streets to get to the parking behind the hotel.

Overall a pleasant stay. Ideally located for town and a two-minute walk to the station (which was my primary reason for choosing the County Hotel) - there is also a sizable car park to the rear. I did get a cheap deal, so wasn't expecting a large room, but i was placed on the back of the building where im informed that it would be quieter. Due to the location, it does get a bit loud on the weekend evening with a couple of guests returning from their adventures quite late so bear this in mind if you're after a quiet night. The general decour away from the reception area is a little dated, but it is clean, the beds are comfortable and the shower is hot. Staff are all really polite and helpful with local knowledge. Breakfast is also quite good with a selection of hot food cerials and pastries. I'd happily stay here again.

Bearing ion mind that is a 2 star hotel and exceptionally well priced, I would say my stay was closer to 3 stars than 2. The lift was not working on arrival and I had to climb to the 3rd floor with my suitcase and backpack. I have a major health issue and this was tough. The hotel is generally run down and shabby, but the staff are pleasant and the breakfast was excellent. Housekeeping was quite poor and only the bare minimum was done. The room was comfortable and there was plenty of tea, coffe milk, etc.

parking is not obvious/ easy to find - we needed to be talked in by an excellent patient receptionist. very small grassy corner of the car park behind some skips was the only place our dog wanted to 'go'. breakfast was OK, thankfully freshly cooked rather than under heaters. the hotel must have been very grand back in the day, city centre location. hence very loud youths until well after midnight, and this was a midweek stay. after years of going past Carlisle on the M6, I finally found out it's west rather than east of the motorway! probably wouldn't return.

First room was dirty, smelled of smoke and body odour, and the carpet was filthy Moved to another which was only slightly better but I didn’t risk taking a shower (only stayed one night). Breakfast was poor - scrambled egg was swimming in water, hash browns were soggy and undercooked. The location of this hotel was good, but it meant it was very noisy (needs double/secondary glazing) but overall the hotel is dated, tired and needs a complete refresh.

Room stank of stale tobacco, dirty, stained carpets, stained chair, stained and broken lamp, even the tv remote was broken. iron shaped burns on carpet, dirt build up in areas on shower toilet not fitting wall, reception smelled, generally needs a refurb.

Oh such a shame that the bathroom was just filthy because great location for what we needed. Staff really great and a great building. I asked for another room and was promptly given a key to another. However, new room had equally filthy bathroom but on a larger scale. Decided to stay in original room.

Friendly staff in a city centre hotel. It was clean, good breakfast. I was happy with the room. The car park was right behind the hotel and took me a while to find it amongst other private car parks. The wifi was a touch tempermental at times.

The Location is good , but would not recommend as when arrived to our room was welcomed with earplugs on the bed to which as a 62 year old did not like banging music till 2am in what was a very small room (309) , dressing table with a tv on it and teas making facilities in front of the mirror. Only one bedside cabinet which having to lean to the floor to reach a glass in the night not recommended. The bathroom was very close to the end of the bed and as you open the door virtually trip over the toilet. Toilet roll had been wet at some point then dried and put on the holder. Breakfast was a choice but if you go down on the later timescale only get what is left. No fresh orange only apple juice. The tea flask had been watered down it was very weak. The room was nothing like what was advertised on the website.

This hotel is in the center of the city so some noise is to be expected, but it was unbelievably loud. Much of that was because it was too hot so windows had to be open to balance the heating system. Definitely run down and in need of updating. Served what I needed which was a bed for the night but wasn't the most comfortable experience

Whilst we had the largest room in the hotel, it was certainly not well planned nor furnished. It was impossible to obtain a reasonable temperature for the shower. The floor was quite simply the noisest I had ever been in, my walk from the bed to the bathroom in the early hours woke my wife up. The plated breakfast was fine and next door to one of the finest examples of tiled ceilings and fireplaces I have ever seen, well worthy of the National Trust let alone a hotel. Difficult to locate the parking but at least it was free.

I regulary stay at the County hotel when passing through Carlisle as it is located in the city centre, offers free parking and the staff could not be more helpful, Bryony on reception is a credit to the hotel team Would recomend the County hotel to any traveller

It wasn't the hotel's problem that the lift broke down but we had to cancel last night and come home early. They dealt with everything fantastically and we will be back. Enjoyed our night stay and will be back soon.

We stay in this hotel more than 3 times a year. But unfortunately this was not very pleasant, we had a 3 night stay and no one looked in our room once. We had to ask at reception for toilet rolls and tea/coffee. We also had someone downstairs smoking in their room and the smell was coming up the vents, I know this is not the fault of the hotel. but on our last day we got up at 0600 and left the hotel as he smell was intolerable. We will be back later in the new year and hope we dont have the same experiences.

Having asked for a high floor away from the stairs, a rude and disinterested receptionist put us on the first floor right next to the steps. The Receptionist (Eastern European from her language), was too busy talking to people she knew, in that language, just so not interested in what she was doing, nor to my pre arrival request of some time. The room was noisy and others in our party complaining about the noise from the street. Just didn't feel welcome at all.

The hotel generally is good and have stayed before with no problems, however the man on the front desk was less than interested, after I asked for assistance did not hear from him again even when I walked past the reception desk.

Great location, central to the lively city centre and on the doorstep of the railway station. Although there's a busy night-time economy all around the hotel, we didn't experience and noise disturbance.

The County Hotel is very conveniently positioned for the railway station and has its own car park which is free to guests. It is surrounded by eating places from fish and chips to a very good Chinese buffet restaurant. There is plenty of nightlife too. Our room was a large family room for 3 adults at the rear of the hotel so was relatively quiet and comfortable. There is a lift to all 3 floors but some corridors and even rooms have steps in them so make enquiries about access if you have mobility issues. We have stayed here before and would be happy to stay here again in the future.

We was unhappy with the fact we paid for breakfast as on Expedia it says daily from 7am but on arrival the staff said on a weekend its from 8am. We couldnt do breakfast at this time as we needed to leave and couldnt get a refund from the hotel as they said to take it up with Expedia.

Although advertised as free parking it was only after I booked that I received an email advising that it was on a first come basis. As a result I had to use paid parking. Room was in need of renovation. Sink didn’t drain. Very good breakfast made up for other things.

No fuss hotel. Clean and tidy. Staff polite and helpful. Great location in town. Breakfast could be better with more staf. Food decent though. I would use this hotel again.

Hotel is close to Railway Station & Shopping Centre Breakfast non buffet today Sunday, due to a technological problem, I should asked for more, so I got extra cereal to compensate.

Nice budget-friendly hotel in the town center. Great breakfast, friendly staff, and clean rooms. The only minor downside is that it can be rather loud, as by main busy street full of pubs and nightclubs.

Shabby but adequate for a couple of nights. Parking was ok for us but it could be a problem if there are a lot of guests. It’s first come, first served for about 25-30 spaces; there are other car parks in the vicinity. We didn’t eat there; it’s very close to the city centre and there is plenty of choice in the area. Room was ok but beds could have been made better as the mattress was visible at the bedhead but it was comfortable and a fan had been provided as it was pretty warm! Certainly worth the money we paid (as cheap as some youth hostels). Floors creak which disturbed us occasionally
